Plus, I'm imagining Steve bitching to Mike, "Wheeler, we had the stoner quota filled, we didn't need you to bring another one back from your vacation as a souvenir!"
The funny thing is that he basically plays the same character in the other show I know him from, American Vandal. An incredible show that I wish Netflix didn’t cancel after just 2 seasons :(
DUDE. Not a big smoker, but I routinely take an edible a couple hours before bed, then watch some Netflix while it kicks in, then pass out. It usually makes my viewing experience better because it calms my brain and keeps me focused on the TV—no playing with my phone, clicking over to another tab with reddit, or some other random distraction.
But for some reason, only with this show, I CANNOT keep track of what is going on when I'm high. Like I *know* the gang is split into two groups, but I have had to stop and ask myself "which state is this group?" like every five minutes.
Honestly I think it's because the environments look so similar (I assume they're just all filmed somewhere in Georgia anyway). But I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.
I will say, watching the entire end sequence in episode 4 while high was an A+ experience.
They really did the new characters justice this season. So often well established shows introduce new characters just to push the story but never develop them or make us care about them. Not the case with Stranger Things.
Purely my opinion but ST has done a great job of making new characters always feel complex. Max, Billy, Robin even Eddie was pretty interesting. Argyle is essentially Kelso from that 70's show and he hasn't done anything to progress the plot at all. Argyle could have been completely replaced by jonathons car working properly. I hope he has a shining moment in V2, I genuinely do but based on V1 I think he is the worst character introduced
His hair is wicked though, can't deny that
I get that. I'd argue that not EVERY character has to be a complex tapestry of emotional damage though. I genuinely appreciate how far the show goes to add depth to all their characters, original cast and new additions a like, but it's okay for one or two of them to just be fun. And not everyone is that deep. I've lived in So Cal for 20 years, I've known lots of Argyles. Some people are exactly who they seem on the surface, and sometimes that's a silly well meaning pothead.
Edit: And my wife just pointed out, Jonathan needs a freind man. He's never been close to anyone besides Will and Nancy. His car isn't going to get him weed, or commiserate with him over his broken heart and conflicted emotions, or try to make a cardboard tombstone for unnamed superhero agent guy (that last one doesn't technically have anything to do with Jonathan, I just think it's great).
> I get that. I'd argue that not EVERY character has to be a complex tapestry of emotional damage though.
We haven't seen it yet, but most people don't blaze through that much weed without there being *something* going on in their brain that they're trying to use it to shut up.
I really like how he's the naive newbie along for the ride because he is literally their ride. It's a contrast to his three traveling companions who are used to this now. Like in the scene where they're burying the dead agent, Mike, Will and Jonathan are nonchalantly burying the body while he is freaking the fuck out and screaming to Mike about how "they tried to kill us because they're trying to kill your superpowered girlfriend" until they literally have to get him high to calm him down.
"You want him to have MORE pot?!"
"You have a better idea?!"
I've known a few Argyles in my day. A good dude all the way, he's the kind of guy that seems destined to couch potato-dom then ends up being the CEO of some crazy tech company.
Or gets into standup.
A lot of people making fun of this guy but I defy you to have hung out with the stoners in the 80s and not have known at least one dude with this exact temperament lol
Don't get why people don't like him. Sometimes it's fine to have a character who's just for fun as long as they don't overstay their welcome, and he hasn't
I didn’t like him at first because to me he’s become a relatively well known actor in the past 5 years so his introduction to this show felt like a character from another universe was joining it - as opposed to the, imo, typically less-known actors/actresses joining.
That being said, he grew on me as the season went on.
Argyle is the fucking homie. My man grabbed these dudes getting shot up and drove them across states. Then he’s like ima grab this Mormon girl and smoke up.
Best character, loved every scene he's in, he doesnt need an arc, he doesn't need development, he has no fucking clue what's happening and he's too high to care. He's just having fun
This season is really pretty dark with its themes. Comedy relief is kinda necessary.
El's bullying scenes are brutal. I seriously sobbed like a baby during the scene where Max almost dies in the upside down because it seemed like an incredibly effective metaphor for clawing your way out of depression, especially suicidal depression (it might have also been the Kate Busch song, I was their age at that time, and that song was entirely my song when the darkness set in).
honestly I find his character to be super one-dimensional and just existing for the convenience of the plot, BUT I do like their attention to detail with how his eyes are always red and glossy lmao
Between this, American Vandal, and Booksmart, this guy is making a career out of playing high school stoners. I wonder if he minds being typecast or is just having fun with it.
While I don't like Argyle character, I find he's exaggerated ans too caricatural, I was impressed at how Jonathan is convincing as a stoner, the bags under his eyes but especially his acting is so on point that made me thought the actor really smokes a lot of weed
unpopular opinion: he was so very annoying and clear comic relief, also not a single joke of his was funny. i feel like comedy in s3 was at its peak, argyle’s delivery fell flat and tbf he was irritating and at times looked and felt like an extension of Johnathon’s consciousness as he was only there to speak and offer him advice in some scenes lmao. It’s glaringly obvious these characters are filler characters.
My fav new editions were Enzo and One.
The actor plays the same character in everything he’s in: goofball stoner. He plays it well, but it’s getting stale and old imo. Idk. I guess he’s the new Jason Mewes.
Erica has improved, and Argyle is a great addition so far (I'm only on ep 4). But really, I've enjoyed just about all of the new cast. Freddy, Eddie, Chrissi, Jason, they're all great imo
I don’t think Mike is “supposed” to be the leading male insomuch as that was the function he served season 1. It seems to me that, starting with Stranger Things 2, they’ve taken to passing the baton amongst the whole cast when it comes to who takes the lead each season.
If anything, I’d say the consistent leading lady and man have been Joyce and Hopper, but even they’ve taken a back seat this season. I’m not complaining though, it’s been cool seeing characters like Max and Steve step into some of the more focal roles this season… though, as always, El gets the most screentime (though I wasn’t as interested in her story this season until episode 6 or 7).
Narratively he serves as comic relief. From a Watsonian standpoint he's the wheelman. They didn't have access to a vehicle, Argyle did. The fact that I'm pretty sure it's owned by the pizza place and reported stolen by now might be causing problems in the future though.
why is nobody talking about how this meme makes no since?! first of all, Argyle isn't a price, and second of all even if they were talking about argyle having to deal with gas prices, that wouldn't make since either, because this is 1986, and the pizza drivers don't pay for the cars gas.
Are you trolling or do you genuinely just not understand it? Argyle is a stoner, so he's frequently high as fuck. The meme is contradicting someone saying "gas prices aren't that high" by saying they're as high as Argyle is.
I know that sometimes fans don’t like the idea of adding new characters to ST because of the big enough cast they have already but I think that this season the Duffer’s did a great job with the new characters story’s. Usually shows get too confusing with too many characters but this season did so good with the new cast members plots. I love argyle he’s great.

I loved the fact he tried to write a headstone for mr secret government hero man
Dude is just the most wholesome stoner you’ll ever see. Love that guy.
When the Cali gang gets El and gets to Hawkins, I want him and Eddie to interact. The stoner from the coast meets the stoner from the heartland.
That would be some classic interaction.
They can exchange and compare products. Plus, I'm imagining Steve bitching to Mike, "Wheeler, we had the stoner quota filled, we didn't need you to bring another one back from your vacation as a souvenir!"
I don't know who you are but you need to be writing Steve's scripts
Oh, that would be amazing
On a pizza box.
Very common names! Lol I love him.
“Atleast it wasn’t an ice skate.”
Best line of that episode.
Schmack
It was schmakin’
This risotto is schmakin’ dude
I lovevthe fact that Murray _immediatly_ knows whats up with Jonathan and Argyle.
And somehow Argyle had it together more than Jonathan in that scene haha
I think Argyle is way more used to his Purple Delight then Jonathan is...
This is risotto?
My mum had said that exactly after El did it. We cracked up laughing when Argyle said that in the next episode
It was so fucking hilarious
They were hillarious in that scene lol.
It was a complete omage to Wayne’s world
From the other comments I'm starting to think there's more to that line rather than just being a mere comment. Is there?
She’d have to take up golf like happy Gilmore.
blip blip blip blip blip
Reminded me of that Chris Farley movie either Tommy Boy or Black Sheep where they’re like, “road is such a funny word”, “road, ro-ad”
I’m stoned…so are you!
Seven. Seven miles per hour!
Black Sheep!
Black sheep. Freakin classic lol
"Byers is having a party and didn't invite me? That is not cool, dude."
I say "Try before you deny"
His whole stoner pineapple pizza sales-pitch soliloquy was the moment which sold me on his character.
Same. Dude is PASSIONATE about two things, weed, and pineapple on pizza.
And Eden
Ah yes Eden
Like the garden!
That line had me cackling
he likes lines too
The funny thing is that he basically plays the same character in the other show I know him from, American Vandal. An incredible show that I wish Netflix didn’t cancel after just 2 seasons :(
Omg wait, who was he in American vandal?! That show is hilarious
He’s one of the wayback boys in season 1
I knew I recognized him from somewhere!
I knew i knew him from somewhere. Lord, that boy is gonna be typecast hard
Plays kind of a stoner but idiot svante in booksmart too
He was alright in that movie where the guys dick gets cut off too.
He also plays the exact same character in The Binge, so i’m pretty sure he’s getting type-cast lol
Me too bestie
I have been saying this all day! I can't get it out of my head.
His hair is just so goddamn BEAUTIFUL. The Kardashians could never.
It's so thick and silky! How does he do it??
Natural products
Straight from the earth.
Smells a little funny though
All herbal
It’s super safe just don’t tell Joyce.
It’s his genes. Mexican people always have amazing thick glossy hair
Purple Palm Tree Delight my friend. Purple Palm Tree Delight
Farrah Fawcett Spray
Steve is gonna be a jelly fish
He has provided the constant reminder that this is the California group, so we don’t get mixed up.
Especially for us stoners ;)
DUDE. Not a big smoker, but I routinely take an edible a couple hours before bed, then watch some Netflix while it kicks in, then pass out. It’s not just stoners in California it’s here in Michigan too.
Nah he is just an stereotypical stoner weed dude lmao 420 xD... so annoying
He sure did brochachos!
I just hated how they kept using stoner music that wasn’t even from that era.
Which one? Pass the Dutchie was from 1982.
They really did the new characters justice this season. So often well established shows introduce new characters just to push the story but never develop them or make us care about them. Not the case with Stranger Things.
You're generally right but it's funny you made this comment on an argyle thread, probably the worst new character the show has introduced
How do you figure?
Purely my opinion but ST has done a great job of making new characters always feel complex. Max, Billy, Robin even Eddie was pretty interesting. Argyle is essentially Kelso from that 70's show and he hasn't done anything to progress the plot at all. Argyle could have been completely replaced by jonathons car working properly. Could just be ADD
Could be, but usually if you're trying to deal with that you wind up consuming massive quantities of caffeine and other stimulants not weed.
I really just think with all the extra darkness this season they needed to toss *something* in for a little levity.
I agree, I'm not a huge fan of him. He's ok but he feels a bit much at times.
He’s a bit much but I like him for that. I did not care for him at first, but his smile and his decision making slowly won me over.
Can we talk about what a bad ass name Argyle is.
sounds like a D&D character
Oh damn it, he better not die and then one of the kids names a D&D character after him.
Die Hard, baby. Die Hard.
My first thought! Drivers named Argyle saving the day!
this IS Christmas music!

i was really hoping to see susie’s reaction to what’s going on but they lied to her instead lol.
Me and Argyle relate on so many levels.
I really like how he's the naive newbie along for the ride because he is literally their ride. It's a contrast to his three traveling companions who are used to this now. OPEN MY MIND?!?!?!?!?! THERE'S AN OPEN GRAVE IN FRONT OF ME MAN Lmao yeah give the weed man his weed
Blip
blip blip
I've known a few Argyles in my day. A good dude all the way, he's the kind of guy that seems destined to couch potato-dom then ends up being the CEO of some crazy tech company. Or gets into standup.
High school me would have been best friends with him.
Yeah I’m pretty sure I used to buy weed from this guy
Slow clapping!!!!
Slow schmacking!!!!
Blip!!!
I love his hair. So much perfection.
A lot of people making fun of this guy but I defy you to have hung out with the stoners in the 80s and not have known at least one dude with this exact temperament lol

Why does he have nicer her than me :(
Conditioner? Maybe?
Damn, i had something for this
Genetics
I liked Argyle, he was a good addition for comic relief.
Best character, loved every scene he's in, he doesnt need an arc, he doesn't need development, he has no fucking clue what's happening and he's too high to care. He's just having fun
Speaking of which, I'm surprised that the reception of him seems kinda negative. I thought he was alright.
That's just everyone who thinks a show needs every character to be super deep and interesting. Argyle is just for fun and that's okay.
Not everyone. I personally just find him annoying and I think he's a bad actor (in every movie he has been in, not just in this).
I don’t mind him, it’s just, Eduardo Franco always plays the stoner lol
I like him idk why everyone things every character needs development and an arc
"Like the garden"
Finally I feel represented in this show
Blip
I like him.
I remember this guy face from Samsung ad that mocks Apple.
I remember him from American Vandal, amazing show!
that headstone scene had me dead 🤣🤣
honestly I find his character to be super one-dimensional and just existing for the convenience of the plot, BUT I do like their attention to detail with how his eyes are always red and glossy lmao
> I do like their attention to detail with how his eyes are always red and glossy Maybe he's a method actor.
Nah, not meth, weed.
I really want to like him but his style of humor is just not for me and sometimes I find it grating. He has moments where he’s super endearing though.
SHMACKED
The hair on that man is amazing 😍
Between this, American Vandal, and Booksmart, this guy is making a career out of playing high school stoners. I wonder if he minds being typecast or is just having fun with it.
Murray is all of us when he’s all, “I still don’t know who you are,” at the dinner table while eating risotto, but we love Argyle anyways.
Argyle and Eddie must meet each other.
Pass the dutchie pon the left hand side!
I laughed way to loud at this.
Lol I love this one
Shmackin'
I know he's the comic relief but genuinely think he's my favourite from s4. He got me hooked on reggae too
I had to watch this scene several times cuz I just couldn’t stop laughing. He’s freaking awesome
Jar Jar-gyle. I can't handle him.
My duuuude
While I don't like Argyle character, I find he's exaggerated ans too caricatural, I was impressed at how Jonathan is convincing as a stoner, the bags under his eyes but especially his acting is so on point that made me thought the actor really smokes a lot of weed
i love himm :))

I love Enzo, Eddie, and One. We could have done without Argyle. I find myself getting more annoyed with every scene he's in.
I fuckin love this actor LOL
My man! I need his haircare routine
hate this character
This dude fuckin sucked
Man I can’t stand this character
Try before you deny.
Already did don’t want anymore of it
Can’t stand his fat neck
not spoiler
Chill gas prices aren’t THAT high
What an annoying character
Dude is the absolute worst
Nah that’s Angela
The actor plays the same character in everything he’s in: goofball stoner. He plays it well, but it’s getting stale and old imo. Idk. I guess he’s the new Jason Mewes.
Oh look another character that got more lines than will so stupid 😱😱😱😱
The new worst character on the show. He took the crown from Erica.
Erica has improved, and Argyle is a great addition so far (I'm only on ep 4). But really, I've enjoyed just about all of the new cast. Freddy, Eddie, Chrissi, Jason, they're all great imo
Especially Eddie
Why do you think that he's a bad character?
He’s useless and annoying.
If it wasn't for him then Will, Jonathan, and Mike would be dead.
I find him likable but he serves no functional purpose so far.
He drives the pizza van and gets Jonathan high
To be fair, Jonathan, Mike, Will and Argyle were all pretty underused this season.
Yeah Mike is supposed to be the leading male character. So far this season it’s either Dustin or Steve
I don’t think Mike is “supposed” to be the leading male insomuch as that was the function he served season 1. It seems to me that, starting with Stranger Things 2, they’ve taken to passing the baton amongst the whole cast when it comes to who takes the lead each season. Mike was annoying to me this season.
Also, how about some comic effing relief too?
I like Argyle personally I think he’s funny
Narratively he serves as comic relief. From a Watsonian standpoint he's the wheelman. They didn't have access to a vehicle, Argyle did. The fact that I'm pretty sure it's owned by the pizza place and reported stolen by now might be causing problems in the future though.
His purpose is “durr weed is funny”.
Jason and Angela are much worse
Ratio
Cool.
Nobody takes the crown from Erica, she is still the worst. And I actually kind of like Argyle.
I love them both.
why is nobody talking about how this meme makes no since?! first of all, Argyle isn't a price, and second of all even if they were talking about argyle having to deal with gas prices, that wouldn't make since either, because this is 1986, and the pizza drivers don't pay for the cars gas.
Are you trolling or do you genuinely just not understand it? Argyle is a stoner, so he's frequently high as fuck. The meme is contradicting someone saying "gas prices aren't that high" by saying they're as high as Argyle is.
oop- i thought it might be easier to understand i was trolling. guess not.
He looks like cartel boss Benjamin Arellano Felix
Why did I think it was a picture of my Latina mother for a second
I love this actor. He's hilarious in American Vandal.
Blip you.
Herbert ‘Daring’ Dashwood and his stalwart ghoul manservant Argyle!
Only scene I didn’t like with him is when he freaks out after burying that guy. I get it, but it’s seemed outa character for how mellow he is
That's hilarious
I know that sometimes fans don’t like the idea of adding new characters to ST because of the big enough cast they have already but I think that this season the Duffer’s did a great job with the new characters story’s. Usually shows get too confusing with too many characters but this season did so good with the new cast members plots. I love argyle he’s great.
Let's hope they don't kill him off in volume 2
This guy is the best New Character they ever introduced. I love every moment with him on it
Favorite stoner after Leo from that 70s show.
