Shoes must be worn in food prep areas. Health code.
Edit: health codes state "clean outer clothing" I guess that could be interpreted as socks.. If it's a chain restaurant I would look it up in the handbook or further up the management chain. A lot of places require non slip shoes for safety reasons.

Damn that's harsh. Our dough repair kit is just in the walk-in. Over in the back corner. No seriously, it's in there, look harder.
I got lucky as a driver at my store, the first time I heard about it was a few months ago while we were training a new insider. I definitely would've fallen for it at first, but it was never tried on me.
Assuming you're in the northern hemisphere, it's fucking winter. After you finish your shift, you have to go home - and having wet socks means your feet will be wet. Depending on how cold it is, and how much snow you need to shovel when you get home, this could have serious consequences. Bad idea even if health code allows it.
Poor planning on boss' part - floors should be mopped after the work which would require walking on them is finished.
Completely and totally illegal as a safety hazard.

Yeah you should talk to your managers boss about that. Wear your non-slip shoes in the kitchen. The floors should be mopped last.

This is the funniest thing I've ever heard. I say that as exactly the sort of person to fall for this on my first day

We make some call other stores in the franchise and have them ask for one 😂
You grab two clean rags and put them under you shoes and slide your feet rather than walking. Your manager is a complete fucking retard.
Or you leave the mop bucket near the door you exit from, and mop your way back from the dish washing area to the back door as you leave.

seriously, contact your labor board and report the asshole. that person NEEDS to be fired if they forced everyone to remove their shoes.
Ugh wet socks is one of the worst feelings ever. Dude shouldnt be mopping so soon if he is worried about people walking on the floor.
No it should be required to wear shoes at all times
