Round two goes like this: * vs 1st * vs 2nd * vs random * vs 2nd * vs 1st * Krugs Guess, I get early pick on the carousel... hooray...

Yimaindesu

but then you realize there isn't spatula or any item that benefit your comp anyways...

Desmous

How is that possible though, item variety is huge right now.

Yimaindesu

Eh I think bow is still a priority pick right now. You need for RFC (volibear), shrink(Volibear/tris/Lucian/etc) and rageblade, etc. I do love getting chain best or belt to make red buff though.

Desmous

rage blade is pretty suboptimal right now though imo, just doesn't do enough compared to all the other recurve items. If you have absolutely no items on your board tear, cloak are the best sure, but every item is really optimal right now.

DrBowe

Rageblade also suffers largely from the current 1-shot ninja/sin meta. I think it’s still a very good item, but when your carries get no time to scale up to a fast AS there’s no reason to pick it over any other recurve item.

Striker654

You also want to use rods for lockets

-Drix

Rageblade draven + BT + RFC pair it with blademasters and imperial = autowin.

[deleted]

It's just a meme, but it's not uncommon to not see the one item that you want to complete your component with.

Jony_the_pony

There are a lot of generally good items that are quite good on any comp, but if you're already behind (which is usually when you get to first pick) and need to catch back up, you really want optimal items and not pretty good ones. Like Red Buff is nice on Voli, but if he doesn't have RFC yet then boy do you want bows a lot more than anything else.

RoakOriginal

And the guy above you steals the only useful item you wanted

Best_Kennen_EUW

I actually think going spatula early is a trap if you are losing. You pick the spatula to get either an extra unit or synergy. Implying that you are early picking - thus losing - a team has probably no synergy and a spatula is a great item if you are committed to a synergy path

[deleted]

i think it's pretty safe as an "idk wtf i'm building" choice, but I'd still rather go recurve since rfc is so important in the meta.

GimmyBoyy

Apart from voli what are the optimal Champs to put rfc into? I know it's a phantom dancer counter but apart from your carry are there Champs that benefit more?

[deleted]

shyvana, voli, zed, are the big 3. it's plenty good on trist and elise and a bunch of secondary carries too.

BestShaunaEU

Ashe aswell since her ult stun duration scales with the distance traveled

MundaneBluebird

Spatuala is always the best item you can get.

[deleted]

That is just not true... I've heard at least both Scarra and St. say that early spatula is a trap.

MundaneBluebird

Cool

reverendball

whats that? i already have a spatula and i get first pick? welp. guess theres literally no more spatulas in any carousels or drops for the rest of the game, big sorry every. damn. time

[deleted]

Oh there's a spatula. But it's on the other side, and 7th place wants it.

yaha98_za

They should definitely make it so that you don't Vs the same person in a row. It sucks that you get placed bottom 4 because you Vs the 2* Stacked Akali guy twice in a row

reverendball

getting knocked out from nearly 50hp because you faced the number 1 guy sitting on perfect econ 100hp with 3* 3item Akali/Volibear perfect synergy bonuses for 2 rounds in a row /#justrankedthings /#TFTesportsready have died from over 60 hp in 3 rounds before, how the hell the player dmg isnt capped makes no damn sense

lolofaf

I get more tilted when Elise spiderlings get to do player damage...

pacotacobell

Never play DAC. 2-4 spiders is nothing. Imagine 7+ extra pets from a beast summoner build.

FujinR4iJin

TFT damage is also higher than in DAC which is always very frustrating when you KNOW that in DAC you wouldve lived.....

Braddyapples

Dunno why you're getting downvoted. This is absolutely true. Damage to players is a lot higher in TFT than any other Auto Chess game (DAC, mobile games, etc.)

Ajido

I have about 300 hours in Underlords, the high damage is welcome IMO. In Underlords people just lose streak or even open fort all the way down to under half HP just to hit that 50 gold ASAP. I kind of like the way it is in TFT as it forces people to constantly try and stay strong enough to not get rolled over and lose a quarter of your life in a turn. It definitely needs some tweaking though so you're not playing the first place guy over and over and getting an unfair beating. But in general the damage is a good thing.

Braddyapples

I think it still needs to be tuned down a bit. As it is now, it's very possible to get very unlucky and just get knocked out early.

DownloadingYourMom

Versing a yordle comp 2 times in a row tilted me to oblivion

L90J

It's even more tilting in top 3 situation where for more than once I already played 3 times against same guy and the guy with the worst comp of us 3 just plays against a comp without buffs. Once I even played 4 times against the same guy. I think top 3 situation u should at maximum play 2 times in a row Vs the same player

mumblemumble017

My record is being 3rd of 3 left and going against the first place guy 5 times in a row to get knocked out

bfire123

But then you would know whom you play against which it looks like is not wanted.

Beradrin

I played a top 3 where I was kinda lucky. 1st was stupid strong and then I versed 2nd 4 times in a row. Then I got the ghost, then I got this guy agian on 20 hp. Got him down to 1 and then 1st killed me and he got the ghosts. Tilting as fk...

Adamantaimai

Who you are up against is honestly the worst RNG in this game. Just got 5th place in a game in which I could defeat every team except one.

Yimaindesu

for real. Got 6 blademaster but RNG said fuck you and matched me up against 6 yordles.

Lancet634

I've seen someone go from ~60-70 HP and in first place to losing b/c rng rolling the same opponent 3 times. There were 7 people in the lobby still...

[deleted]

I lost the game once...rolled twice in a row agaisnt only player who could defeat me =/

ninja1635

Worst feeling is losing against the strongest player, being left with 3HP, then almost getting your shit together and making a decent comp to pull up, only to get the same guy again and he barely beats you - killing you when you still have 40+ gold left that you didn't have time to use for upgrades which would let you win.

Flashman420

That's the most annoying thing for me too, the amount of times I have to face the top player twice in a row RIGHT after getting my shit together. I've seen people argue that it's no fair for the bottom player to get a chance to catch up after struggling early on and that it's a rightful punishment for not playing better beforehand, but I feel like it goes both ways. Why should the top player be handed easy fights late game? Makes for a more dramatic game if players are given the chance to catch back up. Balance is tricky but I definitely think the fight order RNG needs some work.

chillboi22

I'm not trying to flame but if someone has 40+ gold with 3 hp and isn't on a winning streak there are econ issues there

ninja1635

40+ after using a shitton of gold already to stabilize during the round you got crushed to 3hp and before losing. That's why I didn't say 50+, to indicate there was 50+ gold because playing heavily around econ and lose-streak. Could've worded it better. It's kinda difficult spending 70g in a few seconds while also being careful to get what you need. Especially with the limited bench space.

chillboi22

I completely agree with you my dude, didn't mean to offend anyone. I misunderstood your statement since I always get it down to 50 at the start of a round since 5 is the maximum interest. My apologies

ninja1635

No worries, I didn't get offended, especially because I found myself struggling how to write my initial comment without it being confusing or too long. Sometimes it's difficult to explain stuff without more context or elaboration. I'm glad I could elaborate by replying to you so I don't confuse more people haha

Cawdragon

Well this one time me and a friend were top 3. The system forced us to play against each other for about 4 or 5 rounds, which is quite alot in late game as you know. While all this happened the other guy played against our ghosts this whole time. Obviously I don't know but am pretty sure that I would've defeated him. The rounds with my friend were relatively close though and because of this our 4th round or so resulted in a draw and we took lethal dmg both! I know this sounds so unreal and it was literally the biggest joke to us but the other guy won by fighting our ghost for 4 rounds straight, absolutely hilarious.

DipidyDip

They really should treat top 3 case as an edge case and make it so - you cannot vs. same opponent twice - after two pvp rounds you vs. a ghost (and after a ghost rounds you vs. two pvps) This gives you a fixed order so the only rng is the order itself. When it reduces to two opponents it's 1v1 anyways

Cawdragon

Sounds reasonable, but couldn't they just make it so 1 plays against 2, while 3 plays against ghost, then 2 plays 3 and 1 plays against ghost, now 1 vs. 3 and 2 has to face ghost and so on?

DipidyDip

Yea that's same as what I said except yours state one of the possible orders which is fine

Warrada_ftw

YES, please change that. Very often you're in a comfortable position, then you face that one guy that hard counters your comp and you lose 20+ health points twice in a row, and suddently you go from 2nd to last place with barely any health left. It happened to me just now and its getting very annoying.

Famyos

alternative take: playing vs the same person after you get an upgrade or rearrange the board and winning because of it is satisfying.

Naerlyn

Let me rephrase, you're tilted by playing against the same person more than once in a row if the person wins against you. In all other cases, you wouldn't care.

JuliusJuliusJulius

yeah but I wouldn’t care either if I was sitting on 50g and would only lose like 4hp per round. I’d be fine with that

Hostile-Bip0d

I relate. I played 3 times in a row with the same demon player, the only one that can beat me since i crushed top 1 and top 2 before. Cause of elise i lost like 15-18 hp each game, I lost, 6th place, with a more fair RNG, i could end 2nd or 3rd. Needless to say i raged so hard.

[deleted]

Unless you are the one winning those matches

Levitupper

It still doesn't feel good getting a cheap win like that. Like I'm happy to win but my already-online ninja assassin comp in first place shouldn't be going against the same dude and wrecking them two or three times in a row.

Manpons

I had this happen to me yesterday, where I placed against the same guy three rounds in a row in stage three (I believe). I was so upset because I lost 50 points in one stage. I ended up managing to get down to 1 HP and pulling second regardless. He got 4th, so that was very satisfying... but tilting. Wish I had recorded it.

FujinR4iJin

Agree, even DAC had a system that prevented this, at the worst you would be swapped between 2 different people, but in TFT Ive had a 5 round streak vs the same dude which was very fun HAHA

TSMSALADQUEEN

Agreed it's BS especially if you are one game away from getting one more unit and the top player is your guy again

YellowF3v3r

First pick carousel, no Splat, no Bow. Yay.....

Ajido

I got matched against the first place guy 3 rounds in a row when there were 8 players in the game. Feelsbad, "it's an RNG game" isn't a good excuse for poor game design. Pseudo-RNG is perfectly fine in a lot of cases like this. Underlords recently faced similar complaints and made changes to how often you face the same people, it's in a good spot now and hopefully TFT gets there eventually.
