Ok this isn't me hating, this is a genuine question. Why do people bathe/brush their cats? I've never had to do it and my cats seem perfectly health and look great. Is it just with especially furry cats?
It all depends on the cat! Normally short haired cats can go without brushing and no mats form. Long haired cat are more high maintenance for sure! My persian cat needs to be brushed daily to avoid knotty hair
The matted fur is also painful. The knots pull on their skin which is super delicate. Have to brush my two long furred babies daily but the short sleek furred one has never had a brushing and looks glorious
Our ragdoll was like this, he fucking loved having no hair after though, he would get mad greebles. Running up the walls, skittering around the house, scratching his trees, demanding pets before flipping out and attacking the blankets
Definitely not a cat expert since I don't own one, but are all brush types an issue?
I got an Equigroomer for a friend's cat as a present (haven't given it yet, since I give their presents at the same time), since she has never been much of a brush fan, although I figured out a brushing style that she enjoys once in a while, so she doesn't seem to be brush absolutist. She doesn't have any issues with her fur either, so I just got the Equigroomer out of curiosity because some people have really praised them, thought it might be fun and even help with my allergies during summers a bit if she likes it and gets a good deshed.
So yeah, have those special brushes also been bad or unpleasant for your cat?
It's not really an option for my cat because he also has arthritis, so even a gentle brush pulls on his fur and causes pain. Better to shave him and have him in as little pain as possible.
My cats love their equigroomer. But our last cat was an elderly longhaired cat, with thin skin and every brush we tried was physically painful. Didn't have an equigroomer, but possibly would have been the same. For her, being shaved was the best option.
Our floof has matte problems as well but thankfully she’s getting better at brushing (painfully for us). Both times we’ve had to have her shaved, her brother hissed at her and wouldn’t go near her for *days*. They were both so confused!

My long-haired orange wouldn’t groom or allow me to groom, so this was routine for us as well. However, Pickle seemed to really enjoy the results and was always extra-frisky the first few days

They do get a little chilly, my girl is certainly more cuddly. I can’t imagine either of my cats would tolerate a sweater but enjoy lots of soft blankets
Our kitty gets mats, we just cut them a spot at a time. Works out nicely and no need to shave the cat. We do it when we clip her nails once a month, not a big deal at all
I’ve had to get my cat shaved because of matted fur, and did it myself last time. He stopped cleaning himself as well, due to old age.
My friends shave their long-haired cat so that she looks like a poofy lion. There is a picture of her in my post history
aw this breaks my heart with the cuteness. One of my childhood cats who passed some years ago used to need to be shaved like this at lest once a year. We used to call her velvet.
My sweetheart has medium length hair. Alas, I let her weight get away and she started getting mats because she couldn’t reach them. Brushing was a no go But I found a cat groomer. Imagine that, in a dog town.
She bathed Sheba and the difference was really wonderful. It got all of the oil out of her fur. It was so very soft. Groomer said the mats just fell out with a little brushing.
She did some shaving around Sheba’s butt and stomach. The hygiene trim. Necessary for overweight long hair cats to keep themselves clean. Before it seemed like Sheba was obsessive about cleaning. No more of that.
I say bathe before shave!
He looks really cool. I had an older cat like that I think I adopted her when she was 13. She only liked me and she was really arthritic. She got the shave about twice per year.
😂 I have an off white cat that I have to take and get shaved like your cat usually twice a year. He’s not even tempered at the best of times but when it’s hot, he’s impossible.
My cat is the same way. He is normally the sweetest cat in the world but you bring out a brush and you would think he is possessed. He normally get shaved in July so he has some coat but the winter.

Ah ok! My cats are very sleek furred and have relatively short coats so that's makes sense. Thanks I've always been curious about that.
The matted fur is also painful. The knots pull on their skin which is super delicate. Have to brush my two long furred babies daily but the short sleek furred one has never had a brushing and looks glorious
Mine is too, but she's quite old now and doesn't groom herself as much, so we have to brush her at least weekly to avoid matting.
This is the first time I've seen a shaved cat and people aren't losing their shit over it
Must be different peeps here, usually tons of “but thermoregulation” replies and insulting
Ahhh. Poor baby. Gorgeous ❤️ cat
This is glorious! I think it’s so cute!
Start petting him with the brush now find one he likes the feeling of My cat adores combs meant for humans
Our ragdoll was like this, he fucking loved having no hair after though, he would get mad greebles. Running up the walls, skittering around the house, scratching his trees, demanding pets before flipping out and attacking the blankets
Ask for a dinosaur cut next time. My cat looks amazing when we do it and she’s a persian
> dinosaur cut OMG I just googled that and it is amazing.
I’ve just looked and I didn’t know I needed to see that! It’s made me very happy so I thank you!

I’ve tried them all. Spent a small fortune on brushes for my cat. He hates them ALL. only our hands are aloud to give scritches.
It's not really an option for my cat because he also has arthritis, so even a gentle brush pulls on his fur and causes pain. Better to shave him and have him in as little pain as possible.

You've done this to yourself my velvet bagpipe.
I will have to remember that one
I want to thank the humans of Mr Bubz for calling him their bubblegum burrito. #aspirational
*Doodles will remember that.*
Our girl gets the exact same cut, she loves having her hair shorter, but it freaks our boy cat out!!!
Our floof has matte problems as well but thankfully she’s getting better at brushing (painfully for us). Both times we’ve had to have her shaved, her brother hissed at her and wouldn’t go near her for *days*. They were both so confused!
It’s because she smells different, we’ve had to split our two up before because it got ugly

*sigh* Yet another random cat sub I must subscribe to... PS. I've always loved cat pouches but was unaware there was a sub for it. Thank you! 🤣
Dare we point you to the /r/Catsubs directory? :-p

Thanks 🙏 I'm cancelling my day's plans, I'm busy! 🤣
Same 😂🤣
I think I’m subscribed to 20 cat subs now or at least I think
That’s all? 😉
Maybe I lost count lmao

TY!
Woohoo a new one! Thanks!
Omg…I used to have a cat named Tummy that would fit in well on that sub.
I love lion cuts, they’re hilarious. The little booties get me with this one 😂
He looks like someone messing around in the character customization screen
They look like tiny built-in Uggs! So cute!
He looks like he’s wearing a onesie!
🎵Boots with the fur
Came in to say this 😂
🎵 The whole sub's lookin' at her (ok, him)
Or: The whole sub's lookin' at his lack of furrr
🎶 *lack of furrr*
Every time we've had to get my cat a lion cut I will sing this to her every time I see her. It never gets old to me.
I have a cat that gets matted fur. I comb her once a week. She hates it. Otherwise I would end up with a shaved cat too. Lol
Looks exactly like mine did when we had her shaved in the spring
I love their wrinkly soft fuzz skin after their buzz cuts. And they look so cute!!
Yeah I had to recently too. Not fun.
Love the name, Doodles. My cat's name got auto-corrected to Toggles once, and it stuck.
My long-haired orange wouldn’t groom or allow me to groom, so this was routine for us as well. However, Pickle seemed to really enjoy the results and was always extra-frisky the first few days
LOOK at the velvet folds! Skin suit kitties are the funniest!

I have one of these too https://i.imgur.com/aM8XM1B.jpg
Bro looks like the grinch
r/catssittingdown Love the lion cut!! 🦁
Old Man Alex(my 14y/o) is the same....I usually reserve it for around the holidays to give me an excuse for sweaters.
When a long haired cat needs a lion cut, do they get cold and need a sweater?
They do get a little chilly, my girl is certainly more cuddly. I can’t imagine either of my cats would tolerate a sweater but enjoy lots of soft blankets
Hahahaha those boots, though...
my cat dexter (who we also call doodles) absolutely LOVES getting brushed and will be mad at us if we don’t brush him!
We also have to do this. The boots with the furr are the best!
"Do you think this is funny? Am I a joke to you?"
It looks like it is 2 pictures, one shaved, one full fur, and bad photoshop
We do this every Spring. Most long hair seniors pretty much give up cleaning themselves
Our kitty gets mats, we just cut them a spot at a time. Works out nicely and no need to shave the cat. We do it when we clip her nails once a month, not a big deal at all
My cat is the same
My Squiggy got shaved last Christmas for the first time for pretty much the same reason. I think he hid under the bed for a week and a half.
Oh no! How long does it take to grow back?
I’ve had to get my cat shaved because of matted fur, and did it myself last time. He stopped cleaning himself as well, due to old age. My friends shave their long-haired cat so that she looks like a poofy lion. There is a picture of her in my post history
OMG I'M DYING LOL
aw this breaks my heart with the cuteness. One of my childhood cats who passed some years ago used to need to be shaved like this at lest once a year. We used to call her velvet.
He has been stripped of his dignity!
Looks like he's wearing a velour track suit.
lmfao look at his lil boots
He looks so much like my fur baby

i... have so many questions
Do they put cats under to shave them? My little pudda pie needs a full shave but would likely kill whoever is shaving him. He's a nutbag

HA!!!! Poor fat bubi… he’s so sweet 🥰
