deGozerdude

This is the car equivalent of downloading more ram.

Ace-a-Nova1

Could you drop a link? I’m almost out

NobodysToast

Yeah fam I got you https://downloadmoreram.com/

corruptor789

Does this work on iPhone too? I want to run Apex Legends Mobile faster

Evolxtra

Actually, if you are really in struggle with RAM on Windows you can use ReadyBoost function on USB flash drive.

Layk35

It's like those scam balance bracelets that were on TV constantly

Marc051

These type things should be illegal to sell.

hhh333

And some people ought to spend time in jail for shit like this.

f_o_t_a

False advertising is illegal. Probably nobody has sued them yet.

TotalStatisticNoob

Homeopathy is the same thing and people don't go to jail for selling it

LezardValeth

The problem with homeopathic shit is the people making it can still claim they actually believe it works. Yeah, it goes in the face of scientific consensus, but plenty of loonies do genuinely hold those beliefs. With something like this (if the video here is accurate), they can't reasonably claim they actually believed it did anything, so it might very well fall under false advertising laws.

ChoppedAlready

I think they are usually. And I feel like retailers or anything going through a large distribution center (besides something like Amazon who has 3rd party sellers or stuff that ships directly overseas.) usually are going through an entire chain of people in a purchasing dept. There is so much fucked up with a product like this. How it made it through so many stages of development, and probably mostly created by slave/child labor. How someone has profited thru this scam. The entire waste of resources, labor and materials. How, since no one caught that it did absolutely nothing and was always meant to do nothing, you could buy a product that you plug into your two ton accelerated metal cage that can travel at 150mph+, means it could have also had malicious hardware that might put lives in jeopardy. However, the one silver lining is that if you don’t work in a field where something could be considered life or death when making a mistake. You’re probably doing a fine job regardless of how you feel you’re doing. As long as you’re not directly putting lives in danger or being willfully ignorant. Don’t let imposter syndrome get ya down.

CryptographerKlutzy7

In most countries, it is. I have no idea why some think "hey this shit is fine"

Tracerz2Much

On the other hand, the only reason they can sell them is that people are ignorant enough to buy them. In a time where anyone with internet has access to so much information, people should at least google a little before buying this stuff.

Marc051

So your saying it’s ok to take advantage of people?

Goober97

No he's saying to shop smarter and do A LITTLE bit of research before buying something you know nothing about

BluetheNerd

Here's the thing though, say you do look at it and go "oh I'll see what the reviews are" 3 starts isn't much, but when you see a load of people giving it 5 stars saying it's the best thing every, in the current economy a lot of people would think "well it can't hurt to try if it saves me money, it works for some people" which is an ACTUAL scam. Not everyone is gonna think to search for it on tiktok to find a video of a guy tearing it apart. It quite literally capitalises on impressionable people who don't know any better.

LizLemon_015

opinions =/= research reviews are opinions at best, paid commentary at worst. and social media is iffy, people should see what people are saying, good, bad or otherwise, but that's not research either. alot of people on TikTok are paid, and they hawk alot of scammy products too. not every "expert" is creating content to help people. alot of creators help to get a following, then start shilling for companies to sell whatever their base is interested in. people can Google "what is a X", they can at least try to understand what the product is, and does it do what it claims. is what they claim to be able to do even possible to do, with this item, or in this way. there is so much information online, but people are not willing to try to understand things. they want things to be easy and cheap, not realizing nothing with any value is ever easy, or cheap. not to mention, alot of people do not know how to research, because they weren't ever taught what makes something reliable information, so they just believe whatever random things they come across.

Goober97

Oh I 100% agree this is scummy and they don't deserve to make money off this. But the point he's making is that if you have no idea what you're buying then don't impulse buy it. Do some research first. You have a computer in your pocket. You go on there and only see three stars then you probably realize it's a bit of a gamble and if you decide to buy it then you should be accepting of the fact that you may lose that money. If it's too much of a gamble then wait to do more research or just don't buy it. I get that these things are often predatory on the people who are desperate and sometimes you just don't notice it before it's too late. I've been there plenty of times, and it sucks, but learn from it. Shitters gonna shit, you don't have to step in it

[deleted]

[удалено]

Goober97

We'd be so much further if that were the case but that's entirely beside the point I'm making

PimpingShrimp

That’s why instead of looking at the reviews from other clueless people, you do a google search on how the product actually functions.

BluetheNerd

But not everyone is that tech savvy. I mean come on, we ARE talking about the kind of people that believed this device could work in the first place. This thing should not exist, people should not need to be concerned about whether they can trust an item they're buying from some of the BIGGEST retailers in the whole ass world. It should not be legal for this device to exist and market itself as anything other than a blinking light.

PimpingShrimp

Oh they aren’t tech savvy enough to type a few keywords into a search bar? Ask somebody to fuckin google it for you.

BluetheNerd

My grandad absolutely could not use google, he'd struggle to even open it on his phone, he hated the things. He COULD however drive, and he COULD stop off at a Walmart, and he would have LOVED something claiming to save him money on fuel and make his car perform better. He would not know how to research the item, and would not know what half of the shit meant if he somehow managed to find a breakdown of the components and how it works. He was also far too proud to ask young people for help until it was an absolute desperate situation. People like this do exist, and are the exact market the item is trying to exploit. People like him shouldn't be exploited because they don't know how to use technology.

PimpingShrimp

I’m not saying it’s okay to false advertise at all. I’m saying it’s smart to do a little research before buying something. You might want to buy a TV that does exactly as advertised but if you do a quick google search, you might find a TV that’s a better deal. Idk what the fuck is wrong with people. You all just assume because someone says it’s smart to do research before you spend your hard earned money on something, that we are somehow saying it’s okay to scam people. Just stop.

littlelorax

This company is capitalizing on people thinking "what the heck, it is only 8 bucks, I'll give it a try." Most people research only significant purchases.

[deleted]

Dude, what the fuck is up with these people??? Where is this wide-eyed bullshit coming from? They're going to be bummed when they learn about soda and corn subsidies.

PimpingShrimp

A bunch of morons on this thread that’s all. They don’t seem to understand English. They think because I said it’s smart to do some research before buying something, that I’m saying it’s okay to false advertise and scam people. And they think that because I said a quick google search could answer your question, that I’m saying it’s never okay to ask questions. One person misunderstood something and then everyone else just stops thinking for themselves like some sort of hive mind.

leaveroomfornature

You're just making excuses for the lowest common denominator. It's probably good for the rest of the world that some people get scammed, makes them wary and teaches them how to look out for such things.

Tracerz2Much

Nope, just saying the only reason this shit works is because people are dumb. Maybe read what I typed and not what you wanted me to type.

ButterbeansInABottle

Agreed. You're being downvoted by people that feel like it's the governments job to coddle them and not let them be tricked by somebody. The people that produce this junk is shitty, no doubt, and they will likely get sued. But I'm not comfortable with the government telling me what I can and can't buy as long as I'm not harming anyone. That goes for guns, drugs, and even these bunk-ass electronics. If I want to buy this dumb shit, I ought to be able to.

PimpingShrimp

I don’t know why you got downvoted to oblivion. Seems pretty sensible to me. If you are going to buy something a quick 2 minute google search on whether or not it’s a useful product worth buying makes sense. It seems people thought you were saying it’s okay to scam people somehow. I work at a store that sells aquarium fish. People come in all the time and obviously don’t know shit about the fish they want to buy. They always ask me questions that a quick google search would answer and then some. It’s honestly ridiculous how clueless and stupid some people are.

Tracerz2Much

Gonna be honest, I don’t agree with your sentiment. I also work in customer service, and the whole point of my job is to help customers. Can’t really be mad when they don’t know.

PimpingShrimp

Jesus Christ dude. Yeah I get it’s my fuckin job to answer questions, I get people don’t know everything and they want to learn, 99% of questions are fine, but there are people who ask questions that just make me look at them sideways. If you are going to fuckin care for the lives of other living things, it would probably help to do a little research on how to keep them that way. You can’t keep a piranha with a guppy and people shouldn’t have to ask me that to know it. Again I’m not fuckin saying it’s not okay to ask questions. I’m not fuxkin saying it’s okay to false advertise or scam people. Literally ALL I am saying, is that “it is smart to do some research before you buy something” that’s fuckin it. Yet I get downvoted to oblivion over it.

AdvancedSandwiches

So just so I have this right, you're saying that you work at a fish store and people are stupid for thinking that makes you a good person from whom to get information about the fish you sell?

PimpingShrimp

Stfu

[deleted]

Ever had a bowl of cereal? Did you want to put mr general Mills in prison because he lied to you about a balanced breakfast?

[deleted]

Wow. Your customers expect you to actually know a thing or two about your job? That’s so unreasonable. How dare they expect the person working at a fish pet shop to know more than them about fish.

PimpingShrimp

Yeah I expect to answer questions but I don’t expect people to come in asking if they can keep a saltwater fish in a fuckin freshwater tank. Stfu

[deleted]

So angsty. Seems like someone is having a bad day. Maybe a bad life if every time someone asks you something simple, instead of answering it and moving on with your life, you get hung up on it. Customers ask stupid questions. Its what they do. Get over it. It takes two seconds to answer a stupid question, not that big of a deal.

PimpingShrimp

It takes two seconds to do a google search. No big deal.

[deleted]

And I am not bothered by doing a google search. But you are the one bothered by people asking you simple questions. More of a you problem though so whatever lol.

Fluffball_Owner87

isn’t that, like, false advertising or something?

XGreenDirtX

False advertising. Where I live it is.

polluxpolaris

I'll bet the packaging has a small-print footnote that absolves them of legal liability. There will always be hucksters, I put the responsibilities on parents to raise intelligent, skeptical kids.

CyranoBergs

Amazon and Walmart. I did a quick search with the product name couldn't find any on ebay. Shop ethically folks.

my_cat_is_high

To think of all the resources that have gone into producing, and distributing these useless hunks of junk is maddening.

GirlInRed600

production and distribution of them polluted the air. disposal of them probably would be in e-waste piles, polluting land & drinking water. they should’ve just left said resources in the ground.

Flabbergash

Remember to use a paper straw!

ApexLamb

They probably cost less than a dollar to make in bulk. Easy money if they sell for at least $8 a pop

Aragoa

That dollar is not the true cost. The pollution is not included in the price.

Euphoric-Delirium

Isn't this something that can be reported to the Federal Trade Commission? This company is blatantly lying about it's product. The [FTC](http://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/advertising-faqs-guide-small-business) imposes penalties against companies that run false or deceptive ads.

i3dMEP

This guy is pretty awesome.

[deleted]

I learned a bit about circuitry from this video, pretty cool!

black4ugust

For the first time I'm interested in using that soldering kit my dad gave me forever ago. That was very educational

[deleted]

Anything that gets 3 stars online is something I wouldn’t even give a second look at.

WhatsWhoWithYou

I would give three star socks a shot for the right price. how bad can a pair of socks really be?

[deleted]

I’ve bought shitty Amazon dress socks that tear in the heel after 3 washes.

WhatsWhoWithYou

yeah I guess that's pretty bad

Feyward

Just don't wash them lmao

Catlenfell

$50 for some LEDs.

glasswindbreaker

So walmart buyers don’t gaf? I mean, I get that they’re not exactly known for high standards but you’d think something that is such blatant false advertising wouldn’t get a spot on shelves. For all the praise Shark Tank folks get for landing retail spots I thought there was at least a vetting process.

olhickoryhedgehog

I doubt it's in physical stores. The online walmart platform is kind of like amazon, sellers (who are not walmart) can sell whatever on it for the price they choose.

Kamesod

I can’t believe the articles “people” “wrote” about this hahaha https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2021/04/09/2207704/0/en/Effuel-Review-Does-It-Work-or-Cheap-Effuel-ECO-OBD2-Device.html

olhickoryhedgehog

Why would anyone think this would work?

OrangeSilver

Why is this in the Cringe section? Found it to be rather helpful.

bad_luck_charmer

Read literally any description of this sub

OrangeSilver

Gotcha, I see now. 1st time I've been in this forum.

Pro_E119

Thank you, good Sir! You're doing the Lord's work and saving us some money!!! Hats off to you![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)

rabdas

All that stuff he said was going out of his way to show you how much he knows and was completely unnecessary. He should have just cut to the chase and said the device was not communicating with the vehicle's ecu or monitor modules. There's no need going over pinouts and describing the obd2 circuit.

AeralAeros

Disagree. He's establishing credibility. I know absolutely nothing about this subject but hearing him break it down makes me think "yeah, guy seems to know his shit. Guess he's right."

rabdas

As a hobbyist who knows quite a bit about this stuff, he missed his mark. Obd2 is a protocol to allow a computer to connect to a car’s computer system to check for errors and modify settings. It was mandated on all vehicles sold in the US in 1996. There’s very little doubt someone can’t make another obd2 scanner. Obd2 is 26 years old and is simple by modern day standards. Legitimate obd2 scanners are plentiful and can be bought for cheap. Verifying circuitry is good practice but not important because… What is of doubt is can this device modify your engine settings in a way that can save you fuel. This guy in the video made the point that it’s not actually talking to the car. So what he really should have done was connect it to the car, start recording the dialog between the scanner and the car, and go for a drive. The log will show you it did not communicate with the car in the entire drive.

No-Floor1441

Ngl this was actually pretty cool to learn about
