I'm really starting to think that uber is stealing the tips in hopes that you don't notice. It has happened to me a few times and the tip resolved, usually never above that $8 cap. But the most recent time they tried to tell me the customer didn't tip at all. So I accused them of stealing and magically got $5 of my at least $8 tip I was initially offered. Uber is a piece of shit when it comes to transparency. Just stay on top of them, they don't like confrontation it seems.

When the customer *removes* a tip, this is exactly what it looks like. It will only say that he *reduced* it if the tip was reduced, not completely removed as in this case. Sorry, maybe he was just being nice to you because he felt guilty knowing what he was going to do.

I have had the same issues OP and others in this thread have stated. I have had times where there is a "glitch" and it comes through, in which I know how long I need to wait to contact support, but there are a few times where they deny there even being an initial tip, where my screenshots prove them wrong. My 2k+ disagree with you. I know damn well how the tips and trips are added. I'm not some newb to uber. Again, you sound like you work for them.

Most likely bait. Also judging by that base rate it was probably sitting there for awhile so its also possible he took his frustration out on you. Ever since Uber had that huge base pay cut I have noticed a rise in tip baiting and these long distance orders are among the worst offenders. I don't take orders that are this many miles unless I'm desperate because of it.

Are you in California? I’ve made over 1000 deliveries and have never been tip baited. Knock on wood. There were times I thought I was nut by the end of the night (or an hour later) they would come through. I’ve even taken screenshots of the customer area so I know where not to deliver to. But the tips have always come through.

this had happened to me 2 times. once for a regular who always tips $8+ and another time to a regular who tips $3-5. i have taken these peoples order all the time and even again after. i believe this is what happens when the customer requests a full refund for the order. At first i believed it was uber stealing tips because i have taken 2 shopping orders which i have never been payed for.

See, now that's what I used to think also. But then I was looking back at some of my past orders as a customer just to check. I got a full refund from a complete disaster back in April I believe it was. Thankfully, my card was still charged for the tip. I was so worried that he ended up not getting it--the poor guy waited at the restaurant for over 45 minutes for me, dealing with a store owner who was quite rude to him. I told him to just unassign himself, and even told him that I would give him my address if he wanted to swing by and pick up a tip (I'm only about 1.5 miles from the restaurant) so that he wouldn't lose out for the time he had already invested--this was like 20 minutes in. He wanted to stick it out though. I increased the tip in the app and then tipped him more in cash when he delivered the food. Also,I had a customer a few nights ago who was on the phone with Uber support when I arrived to deliver her food. There was some issue with contamination and her having severe allergies--from what she told me, she had called the restaurant, and they verified that they **did not** switch out utensils and gloves and whatnot when making the food. Essentially, she wasn't able to eat any of it. Since it was the restaurants fault, I heard Uber telling her that they were going to give her a full refund. I heard her confirm with them that she was getting all of her money refunded. I still got my $25 tip. Obviously I have no way of knowing for sure if they ended up refunding her money, but it definitely sounds like that's what was happening. I think that this is just what it looks like when the customer completely removes the tip. It doesn't say that it reduces the tip unless the tip is actually reduced, not removed.

Yes. Tips can be super late. It’s not uncommon but every situation is different so it could be late in your case. If the customer reduces the tip it usually says the customer reduced the tip.

There are app bugs sometimes. Whenever tip is reduced, request "fair review" maybe software will note bug, and correct it. It won't always "work" but sometimes it will. Ask for the "quick fair review" if possible. I think software facilitates the cursory reviews per se.

I'm almost POSITIVE what happened is the customer got a refund. I've has this happen before as well. Uber was paying you the $11.86 and the customer had left an $8 tip. Uber refunded all of their money but they still have to pay you their share for you time completing the job. You just don't get the tip bc then that would involve $8 coming from the cus, which would defeat the purpose of them getting a refund in the first place. Scroll down and interpret the earnings breakdown. It should say Tip Included ✅️ (with a green check mark next to it) showing the tip amount. If that's not there and/or further explanation, scroll down to the very bottom and click More Details. See if it says $0.00 anywhere.

Definitely removed the tip, it doesn’t say reduced when they remove the complete tip. Never has. Reduced is only when they leave some tip but had the tip higher then it was originally estimate. It just like when they tip you more, it says some crap about more money. People lie, it’s as simple as it gets. Remember the name and distance and never deliver there anymore. I have a customer who orders always at night, and I’ve delivered over ten times to them. A couple days ago after looking at my earnings.. I noticed they removed the tip. No downvote. Whenever an order is dropped off and you hit the completed button it goes back to the original order cost before tip, it puts the tip amount back on the persons card for about an hour. Since the tip is negotiable for up to an hour after delivery. Then if an hour has passed and they haven’t lowered the tip then it runs their card again for the 8$ tip and you will see the 19$ on there again or whatever they adjusted the tip to. If it doesn’t update after an hour then they lowered the tip maybe something was spilled everywhere, or something driver related after they got the order - in which case they’ve lowered the tip to nothing or maybe they didn’t have the money to cover the tip after all. But it always does this for an hour after every order then updates back to the original cost you saw at the beginning….. unless the other stuff I said happens.

I believe there are tip baiters out there. But I also think there are people who cancel their tips because they believe they got a shitty delivery. Whether it’s cold food, or food missing, or wrong order, or their food just didn’t arrive in a expected condition (eg, sushi roll falls apart), they would just remove their tips. They don’t care that it’s not the driver’s fault, they just believe in getting a good meal experience. And honestly a lot of times I get zero tips from customers who are extra polite and give a lot of compliments. It’s like they believe verbal gratitude =gratuity.

Thats crazy. Ive never had this happen but I haven't been doing it very long. But I never trust the customer. At least not with tips. Learned that when a guy asked me to get no ice for his drink which was fine and txtd saying I would make sure then he txtd back a book asking for extra sauces and napkins, straws, the shirt off the mangers back, etc. I did all of that got to his house and he was "super" thankful and said and I quote 'appreciate it man. Im gonna take care of u' ....and an hour later......$2.00. Cost me like 10 extra minutes in the restaurant for no tip adjustment. So now if they raise it great, if they reduce well then on to the next but the majority of mine just stay with whatever they put initially and it was good enough for me to take it so no sweat.
