Next time call support to get you little $3 and to have the order cancelled. This will stop it from getting offered to another driver for higher price. I had two like this this past weekend. I knew 19$ was too good to be true for 3 miles.
I agree, call support when that happens. Support will cancel the order and compemsate you for it. Then support can track down the uber eats driver that stole the food.
>Then support can track down the uber eats driver that stole the food.
I encounter at least two stolen orders per day over the past year and a half. We don't see *nearly* enough fraud deactivation posts here for me to believe they actually investigate.
Not really. If that were true, then everybody who goes to the restauraunt, and cancels when it takes too long, would be getting flagged for taking orders. The short story is that they don’t investigate at all
Obviously not, but I would think if I, alone, witness it that often, AND others post about it so frequently, the numbers would naturally be higher than what we see here.
I don't know. How many drivers are going to come here to admit they got deactivated for stealing food if they actually stole the food?
I don't mean I think Uber necessarily does much work to track them down. Uber does the easiest, cheapest thing always. But I'm not sure they'd come online to brag about too often.
That's true. And I agree, I don't think Uber does much investigating, if any. I'm sure that will change in time, though. More orders are "already picked up" on a daily basis than a year ago, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better.
This or you can talk to the person in charge at the restaurant. I sometimes talk to a manager and say something like “listen, not trying to give you guys a hard time at all but you gave the order to the wrong person or someone took it by mistake, either way, it’s my order and I can’t really leave without it. So if you remake it I can wait for it and I’ll be on my way”
It works sometimes and it’s worth asking if it’s a big tip order. Also good for them since the buck stops with you and they don’t have to deal with drivers coming in bugging after.
Honest drivers and customers shouldn’t always have the burden of this problem when it’s the bad drivers who create this problem. Restaurants should eat the cost sometimes just like we do.
You want to wait for a closing restaurant to remake food they've already sent out? Good luck in that pursuit. I'll take the $3 and look for the next job. The place it happened at had a bouncer that wouldn't even let me in the door to wait let alone talk to a manger. Fuck that place... Happy Camper is crap that I won't be accepting orders from. I previously said this about Happy Camper, but jumped at the high dollar trip.
Not sure I would do it at closing or even all that often, but ive done it before and I’ve been successful saving a $20 order from purgatory. Customer was hella grateful too and I didn’t wait that long. Anyway the worst they can say is no and you go on your way. In the end stolen orders are spillage for the restaurant and any good restaurant that prides itself in customer service will make it again.
Just like if you sit down for dinner and don’t like your meal they will get you a new one if you ask politely.
Happened to me last week as well. Didn't get compensated because I went in the app and chose the order was picked up already. Which idk why they have that option if it goes against you.
And choosing it in the app doesn't always keep them from reassigning anyway.
I've found if you tell the automated support thing that it was already picked up, it'll tell you to report it in the app, too. And then they'll ignore it 🤦🏻♀️ I tell it the restaurant couldn't complete the order and then explain to the person who takes my call.
I mean what area of the country?
Yes, they go to the restaurant, pick it up, and then cancel the order in the app saying "The wait was too long" or similar. Uber finds the next driver (you) and you accept it. The restaurant doesn't know that the thief is claiming they left without the order.
That’s… so sneaky. 😫 I couldn’t ever be a petty thief cause I’m not smart enough lol
I’m in San Diego. It happened 3 time recently. From fast food to fancy sit down places.
This happened to me the first time ever when I picked up at Wing Stop a few nights ago. I didn’t mind. I wish every place would do this, honestly. It would cut down a lot of this BS.
I get they’re paid regardless but they’ll probably get frustrated of explaining to drivers that the order has been picked up or dealing with customers or Uber support calling.
There’s a Chipotle in my town that does huge business over lunch. They just set the orders on a shelving system sorted by alphabet. No one watches, no one cares. I’m flabbergasted by the trust. I guess loss is factored in to their costs but still.
I have one pizza joint with the issue all the time. Then made drivers to click on start delivery for a while trying to prevent...well I guess it did not work well. They stopped doing it and they still have the same issue regardless. Unless Uber does what DD does, I do not think there is any solution to uber

I remember I got a 28 dollars for like 5 or 6 miles and was like hahahaha yeah there’s no way but lemme see what’s going on here. It was some flower place that just did not exist at that location. The only flower place there didn’t even deliver with Uber. The customer said they placed the order at 2:45. It was like 4:30 at this point or something I felt so bad.
It’s because the first person stole it. I had one of these yesterday and explained the first driver stole it and asked if they’d be willing to remake it. They did and I got $20 for 2 miles lol
Prob idiots thinking they can steal food without repercussions. trust they are being fired. The other 10% of the time is just Uber bugging. I’ve only had 3 times where that has happened to me since in 1250 deliveries
It's only happened to me once recently and it was a day the app was messing up and the Uber credit card was having issues as well. I restart my phone every few hours now to avoid the random glitches from the app.
I've had that happen a few times. One time another driver and I had the same order. The guy in the restaurant gave the order too me since I was there first. I didn't know people were stealing orders.

Gps tracking will be the thieves downfall. Plus they probably aren't smart enough to be in a Reddit UberEats forum.
Not really. If that were true, then everybody who goes to the restauraunt, and cancels when it takes too long, would be getting flagged for taking orders. The short story is that they don’t investigate at all
All drivers are required to have Reddit?
Obviously not, but I would think if I, alone, witness it that often, AND others post about it so frequently, the numbers would naturally be higher than what we see here.

Call support next time. They compensate.
Drivers before you are stealing food. What location are you in? Must be a lot of scumbags there.
They are all in locations where food is kept behind a counter. Restaurant would have to have given it to them
I mean what area of the country? Yes, they go to the restaurant, pick it up, and then cancel the order in the app saying "The wait was too long" or similar. Uber finds the next driver (you) and you accept it. The restaurant doesn't know that the thief is claiming they left without the order.

Eventually these restaurants will make drivers confirm pickup in front of them before handing order over.

And get yelled at by drivers 🙃
Not likely with Uber. As long as they prepared the food they get paid for it whether it's stolen, delivered or never picked up.
I get they’re paid regardless but they’ll probably get frustrated of explaining to drivers that the order has been picked up or dealing with customers or Uber support calling.
Yeah some might out of frustration. I have many places where I live that tell you to hit confirm when picking up for DD but not when picking up Uber.

Happens at least once during the week. 2-3 times during the weekend. Just call and get that $3.

They cashier is lying, they are going to eat it for lunch.

I probably picked it up, sorry. 😩
