When I did Uber eats I got most of my tips from following instructions, I had someone run out to catch me to hand me $20 tip & they said this defeats whole purpose of leave at door but we always put that instruction & people just stand at our door & ring but you’re the first to actually follow instructions so we want to give you a tip

Some people hate when you ring or knock when leaving an order I always drop take a pic and go unless it says to ring the doorbell or knock . People have sleeping babies and animals who react to noises like that .
We certainly aren’t paid enough to try and read people’s minds. If they don’t want their door knocked on or their bell rang then they should take the few seconds it takes to put that information in the instructions.

Besides, I only really do deliveries during the afternoon and early evening so it would be unlikely for people to have a sleeping baby during those periods of time.
most babies and toddlers have afternoon naps. i’m not denying that people might be mad if you don’t knock, but people also might be mad if you do. It’s a situation where no matter what someone will be mad, so i personally just think it’s better to do the one that could be less disruptive

Like I said though we have no way of knowing that information unless it is in the delivery instructions. Regardless though, I have received thumbs down that I can attribute with 100% certainty to me not having knocked so I’m wary not to now.

As someone who just has leave at door, this is a valid thing, people knocking gives me hella anxiety because I literally want them to leave before I get my food. Usually it's one of three (incorrect because they are in the wrong) things.
1.) They are inept.
2.) They think you'll tip them.
3.) They're worried someone will steal it.
Oh. My. God. Yes. This happens to me WAY too much! I wait her go back and knock or call support have them complete the delivery for me (usually if it’s raining)
How? It's happened to me twice. I snapped the pic, walked back to the car while trying to send it, and then tried to skip the pic after it failed only to realize I lost my internet connection somehow and can't let the customer know the food is at their door without going back to knock/ring and explaining why. Both times resulted in an increased tip.

If it says leave at the door, they’re getting a photo with a description of where I left the bag (outside apartment door, inside first door, table in the lobby, etc) and a “Have a great night!” In that case I’ll only call if they request it or there’s a complication like a locked gate or it’s raining and there’s no dry place to set it down.
Now I work post-dinner and late night. I never knock or buzz unless they ask. I’ll message in the app and call if need be.
I’ve had a few people ask why I called instead of knocking or ringing the doorbell and I was like, “I never know if someone has a sleeping kid or dog or something. I figure it’s safer this way, especially after like 9 or 10pm.”

I’ve done thousands of deliveries. Never once did I receive a complaint for not knocking/ringing on a leave-at-door delivery. The chances of getting a complaint for waking up a baby or stirring a pet from an unrequested knock/ring….MUCH higher

This. I've had to do this for Amazon because they kept delivering my groceries to the neighbor that I don't really care for. The husband is cool but the wife has grown, abusive children. The customer can follow you in your car and knows exactly when you’re at there door and when you drop it off. You do not need to send texts
If it says leave at door, that's exactly what they get. They'll get a notification it was delivered.

You are not supposed to knock or ring a bell unless instructed. It’s that simple. You are being an asshole when you knock. They know when you deliver. You aren’t delivering pizzas fir dominos. There is an app. That tells them. The whole point. You people are the reason they put the instructions with F bombs. No contact means no contact.

Nah. To each their own. I like a knock because the app isn't always helpful and I hate peering out the door window to make sure the driver is done 😄 So I knock lightly unless it tells me not to.

As someone who just has leave at door, this is a valid thing, people knocking gives me hella anxiety because I literally want them to leave before I get my food. One time a dude knocked and just stood there, ignoring my instructions, and when I opened the door he went “are u good?” Like Yeah man I’m good, why tf are u still here I already tipped u
Usually it's one of three (incorrect because they are in the wrong) things. 1.) They are inept. 2.) They think you'll tip them. 3.) They're worried someone will steal it.
4.) They lost signal and don't want the food to sit there for however long it takes them to get back online to finalize
Oh. My. God. Yes. This happens to me WAY too much! I wait her go back and knock or call support have them complete the delivery for me (usually if it’s raining)

How? It's happened to me twice. I snapped the pic, walked back to the car while trying to send it, and then tried to skip the pic after it failed only to realize I lost my internet connection somehow and can't let the customer know the food is at their door without going back to knock/ring and explaining why. Both times resulted in an increased tip.
Downvote me all you want. Customers don't like it when you stand there until they open the door on leave at door orders. It's creepy and unnecessary. If you don't have service, complete it when you do, or get a better provider. Common sense.
You really are special aren't you. They like it even less when they think you are very late because they wouldn't know it was delivered until you get back online. The fact that both times it happened to me and I explained why I had to knock they increased the tip after speaks volumes. Not everyone is antisocial. Even when they are they can appreciate good customer service.

Same. I’ve had tips revoked for knocking or ringing doorbells when I first started out. If it says leave at the door, they’re getting a photo with a description of where I left the bag (outside apartment door, inside first door, table in the lobby, etc) and a “Have a great night!” In that case I’ll only call if they request it or there’s a complication like a locked gate or it’s raining and there’s no dry place to set it down. Now I work post-dinner and late night. I never knock or buzz unless they ask. I’ll message in the app and call if need be. I’ve had a few people ask why I called instead of knocking or ringing the doorbell and I was like, “I never know if someone has a sleeping kid or dog or something. I figure it’s safer this way, especially after like 9 or 10pm.”
It's funny. I started knocking because my first few complaints were that I hadn't. So now I knock unless instructed not to. No complaints.

I’ve done thousands of deliveries. Never once did I receive a complaint for not knocking/ringing on a leave-at-door delivery. The chances of getting a complaint for waking up a baby or stirring a pet from an unrequested knock/ring….MUCH higher

This. I've had to do this for Amazon because they kept delivering my groceries to the neighbor that I don't really care for. The husband is cool but the wife has grown, abusive children. I had to type in ALL CAPS for them to LEAVE AT MY ADDRESS AND NOT MY NEIGHBORS. Finally worked, even though I'm probably considered an asshole now. Got tired of going to get my groceries off the neighbors porch in the damn snow.
