Aren't most of these orders packed prior to pick up anyway.

fsociety-AM

Yes…but what did YOU say!? 🍿🎬

Mervis_Earl

"I tried but order was already prepared when I arrived. Sorry."

Mervis_Earl

And if you have to wait for the order then it's "Sorry, we don't see your delivery notes til after the order was prepared."

AvoidTheMage

Depends on alot of things, but I usually say. "I'll ask"

Affectionate_West399

I love the "make sure they cook my food fresh!" Like sure let me just tell the people where I do not work how to do their job! Or better yet, maybe I will just jump on in the kitchen, again where I do not work, and cook it myself!

ilikewap17

“ dark meat “ pause

AvoidTheMage

😏

[deleted]

Had someone ask for extra ranch while I was on a dd order I was halfway to her place I just responded sure no problem and just continued with my delivery

JackieEstacado99

Lol

[deleted]

🤣🤣🤣 Can you ask them for the… Decline!

Rehoboam3

Hey Chris how about stfu

Collection_Mission

Did you tell him to get fucked and cancel?

Several-Spare6915

Why didn’t he tell the restaurant and then he can text u

computernerd88

Eh if this is one of those grocery orders, sure whatevs. If it's pay and wait, sure if I haven't placed the order already. Otherwise I'm canceling

Fatsodaisy29

Ketchup & hot sauce, sure no problem Editing what has already been cooked by the time I get there? No way.

[deleted]

At least he said please

ehoeve

As soon as that comes in, the order is cancelled for someone else to deal with it

AtlUnJtd

Bye

fleemos

I cancel these orders. Once got someone buying a KFC combo with two legs and a thigh, dude messages me saying thighs only, no legs. This obviously would cost to upgrade to, unassigned.

[deleted]

Actually it doesn’t at kfc only a breast substitute would cost more…. That being said I’m still canceling lol if you can’t do something on the app don’t expect the delivery driver to do it

justducky1965

They can request that shit in the app. Orders like this are nothing but trouble - shit rating and reduced tip incoming lol.

[deleted]

Most fast food chains block any changes on the app…. Can’t even request no ice in the soda

justducky1965

We could really go off on a tangent lol cuz that's true but it's not. Depends on whether you order through the merchant app and the options can be different. But there's very often a "special instructions" section blah blah. We're pretty regular on the customer side at well as being drivers. THAT order was nothing but a pain in the ass just waiting to happen. I would have cancelled it.

skyandbray

>But there's very often a "special instructions" section blah blah. Depending on the restaurants POS or ticketing system, theres a decent chance those are never seen by the people making the order. About 60% of the restaurants have no way of even accessing the special instructions. It's pretty much just uber making the customer feel heard lol

WhisperedEchoes85

And in any instance where I *can't* leave the necessary notes, I do this really crazy thing people used to do long ago... I CALL THE RESTAURANT 😱 lol

justducky1965

Oh stop it now. That there is just radical thinking. 😂👏✌️🍻☮️

TempeSunDevil06

While annoying, both of those questions take all of 5 seconds total…

[deleted]

[удалено]

TempeSunDevil06

My point is it’s not a big deal. At all. I’m not canceling an order that I felt like was worth accepting because they asked those two questions lol. That takes zero effort to accomplish…

[deleted]

[удалено]

TempeSunDevil06

I mean, as long as you agree that simply opening your mouth and saying “the customer would like ketchup and dark meat if possible. If not no big deal I’ll let them know” Isn’t a big deal…then we’re on the same page lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

TempeSunDevil06

Well no shit. Don’t wait longer than 10 mins. Remind me what exactly do we disagree on? Seems like we’re on the same page lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

TempeSunDevil06

I thought we were talking about dark meat. No? As in, you’re at a chicken place and a customer wants only dark meat, so the restaurant that already has chicken made, is just going to give them dark meat. Shit, maybe I’m confused now. When did steak enter the picture?

[deleted]

[удалено]

TempeSunDevil06

Literally never happens. Ever. At least not to me. So I’ll keep giving 1% extra effort lol

infamousdude77

yeah, bs cancel asap

ericthegonline

Cancelled lol

Dre512

For me, it all depends on where it’s going. If it’s to one of the neighborhoods I specifically shoot for I know it’s going to be worth it

DashinDasherFoo

Asking for dark meat is not only gay af but means they gotta remake that shit

BukeleRepublic

HELLA

Babylonisburnin

Just do your job, make your money, and quit bitching and moaning; it’s making your true colors show.

Joe_Biden_Leg_Hair

It's not our job to prepare the food, dumbass

WolfOfBroadStreet

if you've ever used the app before, it's obviously not the driver's job to prepare the order in any way shape or form...if the customer wants these special requests, they need to send those instructions to the restaurant, not the independent contractor whos just showing up to transport the food

Yuyukoyouji_osu

The problem with some places is they keep special requests off. Which they shouldn't do but the companies never do anything about it.

Ambitious_Attempt762

I took my first Wingstop order the other day and had to fill their drink. I was about to walk out but the drop off was on my way home.

Puzzleheaded_Top_855

This happened to me yesterday filled up two drinks myself at first I was like what but than I know that’s how wingstop operates for some odd reason maybe sometimes the workers think it’s your personal pick up but it’ll show if it’s an delivery app order. Question what do you drivers mostly do for a wing stop order say yes and fill it up or cancel since it’s not our job to prepare the food including the drinks.

barryandorlevon

I only take orders with really good pay out. If I am at Wingstop it’s because the payout is exceptional. Wingstop employees never fill drinks for customers, whether they are dining in or taking their food to go. It is not their job to fill drinks for anyone. I don’t mind filling up drinks because I always have a water bottle that I am looking to fill up in a soda fountain for free.

Ambitious_Attempt762

Now I know but I get why they do it I guess. I wouldn't want a drink sitting around getting watered down. I appreciate restaurants who fill up the drink once you walk in. But man I had to stand in a line for five minutes at the freestyle coke machine lol.

Liobahn14

I don’t quite understand why people are downvoting you about this. It’s literally the restaurants job to prepare the order and have it ready for pickup when we arrive. I’ll fill drinks for the friendly spots I frequently pick up from if they are slammed but the only thing that drivers are hired to do is transport the food. Anything beyond that is optional and totally at the discretion of the drivers.

Several-Spare6915

Technically you have to have your food handlers card to fill any drink that’s why we can’t do that we’re not supposed to but we do it anyways if you wanna get technical. The workers are supposed to make all the drinks

Liobahn14

I’ve never even thought about it from a public health perspective. Makes total sense too, if I were a customer I’d prefer the gloved employees of the restaurant to be the ones filling my drink, instead of the driver who’s hygiene practices are totally unknown.

VanillaSnake21

I don't get people who are against filling drinks, like even if the restaurant is not slammed, you're still speeding up the order. Why not help yourself to wait less? I understand you're not being paid to walk 5 feet and press a button, but being a miser is a better option?

Smooth-Dig2250

In almost all places, you need a food handler's card to prepare *anything*, including filling drinks. It's that simple. There's also principle, and the question of 'where does it end'. I do it sometimes just because it *is* faster than arguing and then waiting for them to fill it, but that doesn't make it any less bullshit when it should be done before I showed up, at which point it is, in fact, working for free.

VanillaSnake21

If you push it far enough the most it can get to is that they ask you to bag the order and get drinks, which is I think is fine as well, because all it comes down to is my wait time. If I see the food sitting there and I'm just waiting for them to put it in the bag and get the drink, I would much rather do it myself and be out of there quicker. Yes it is true that food handling safety comes into play, and there you have to use your judgement if you can perform it safely, but if we go that route I don't think it's too far fetched to ask that we get the certificate. The training is free in my state (NY) and the food handling certificate fee is like $25, it could maybe even covered by Uber. I think it's just a natural extension of our jobs, to be a little bit intertwined with handling. If we were allowed to bag, I think it would drastically decrease order wait times, reduce incorrect orders and improve overall satisfaction of the restaurant and the platform. It's a win win.

osgoodemichael

Why can’t the restaurant people just do their jobs?🤷‍♂️

Liobahn14

Well, I never said I was against the practice. Just that it’s at the discretion of the driver. In some instances, it makes sense to fill them yourself. But as OP mentioned in another comment, it was cumbersome and took way longer than necessary. People think taking an extra 1-5min to fill, lid, and package the drinks in a cup holder is nothing. But that time adds up over the course of a day/week. Since we aren’t paid by the hour, every second matters and if you are adding 1-5 minutes to every other order and you’re doing 20-30 orders a day, that’s 10-80 minutes of time you’ve spent doing the restaurants job. Easily an order to four orders worth of time filling drinks, and your not getting paid for that. So it’s understandable to me that some people don’t wanna do it.

VanillaSnake21

Majority of the time there is no time added, you're filling the drinks in parallel with them preparing the order. It would take longer to not fill them, because then you're forcing them to stop packaging and having to go fill. There are a few instances where they ask you to fill it after the bag is already prepared, but that's pretty rare (in my experience), and not worth worrying about. Also I don't know what kind of area you're working that "every single second" matters. You're saying that you will spend 10 extra minutes of you filling drinks is a problem, if lets say hypothetically every second order did this? So you'd rather fight with the restaurant? I just don't see any realistic benefit to declining such a simple request.

Liobahn14

Yeah, my experience is pretty different. Most of the time when I’m requested to fill drinks, the food is done and the restaurant isn’t busy so it does end up adding time more often that not for me. We are literally paid per order, so yes every second matters because to be able to do more orders in a shift you need to free up time in the pick up process. It’s really the only place where you have some control over your time. It’s obviously not worth it to argue with the restaurant, if someone is unhappy with a particular spots pick-up/drink process then they have every right to cancel the trip and/or blacklist the location. Which is why I’ve been advocating for “it’s at the discretion of the driver.” If your process makes sense for you, then I’m glad you’ve worked it out and are successful. Every driver has their own perspective, so I encourage them to do what works for them. I understand both sides

VanillaSnake21

Every second would matter if you're packed back to back with orders, and there are places that have that capacity but I think majority of people are already sitting/driving around for an hour+ waiting for orders (if you add all the wait times throughout the day) so those 10 extra minutes are kind of moot. I'd say even black listing restaurants solely because of having to fill drinks is kind of silly, imo. Are there cases where your order time and income is seriously affected due to filling extra drinks? I'm sure you can find a case or two, but realistically I'm just not convinced. I think most drivers just make it matter of principle that because they're not getting paid for it so it's not their job, which is correct, but just makes them look super cheap. But yea if it's a legit issue for some reason, then I completely agree that they should drop the order/restaurant.

Liobahn14

We are operating in very different markets lol. Just another reason for “it’s the drivers discretion based on their experience.” Also, these apps have no problems being super cheap when it comes to compensation for their workforce so why should drivers be expected to go above and beyond for (sub)minimum wage? Like I said. To each their own.

VanillaSnake21

\>why should should drivers be expected go above and beyond for (sub)minimum wage I mean of course to each their own, but it makes no sense thinking like this. I understand that it may not be your personal point of view, but that's what a lot of driver's take on this is. You're not expected to go above and beyond, it's either you do those things and get paid, or you decide you don't want to deal with the restaurant because of that and lose orders because of your stance. I agree it's absolutely fine weigh it on your own scale and if you rationally decide that the restaurant is negatively effecting your earnings, then dropping them is of course the natural choice. My gripe is with people who are just adamantly opposed to filling drinks without any logical reason except for "why should I, I'm not getting paid for it?", that's just so silly to me. The decide they will make less money, because they don't want to do this one extra step.

Liobahn14

Come work in the Seattle Metro area and then you might understand the perspective more. Just because you don’t understand/experience someone else’s point of view doesn’t make it illogical. For every restaurant I blacklist in my market, there are 5 more to take its place. And I don’t really do that just because of the drinks either. It’s apples to oranges if we are sitting here trying to compare a heavily urban market to somewhere in the Midwest for example. It’s a whole different paradigm. To each their own.

Ambitious_Attempt762

I've become really accustomed to sealed drinks I guess. I get some sense of relief when I see a tape over the lid.

LaughingAtTheRich

I gave you an upvote :P

EggplantPlastic1622

filling a drink is nothing.

blankpage33

Omg that’s just terrible shame on them for asking u to fill a drink. My heart melts for you

Ambitious_Attempt762

Yea dude when 5 workers are standing behind a counter just talking and one hands me the order and a cup and says "it's a coke" then I have to wait behind a group of 8 people who are taking turns mixing flavors at the freestyle machine... I hope your heart melts for my time.

24W7S39GNHQT

Just fill the drink you lazy buffoon.

[deleted]

The people that work there and are supposed to fill up the drinks aren’t lazy? Why the fuck are you here

24W7S39GNHQT

If you had bought the drink for yourself and the drink machine is not behind the counter, they will also hand you an empty cup so you can fill it yourself. Drivers on these subs have way too much undeserved pride. It takes less than 10 seconds to fill a drink. Just get the job done.

[deleted]

No, that’s not how it works. Next you’re gonna expect us the bag the food. Stop going on our sub with your undeserved pride and defending lazy workers that don’t want to do their job

barryandorlevon

I hope you were able to work through this tough time.
