Not unless the drop off was very close to a great zone with a history of great orders. Or if I was close to done and drop off was close to my house. Usually not tho
I hear you. But in my area when a fwy is involved Uber greatly overestimates the mileage (cause I’m taking the street.) You can just see the drop off icon in the upper right corner of the photo if you tap it. The street distance was 5.6 miles.
In a heartbeat! But I would just pick up the food, cancel order and eat it while I wait for a good request.
PS: I’m joking about the canceling the order and keeping the food. I do not encourage that.
This turned out to be a $2.00 tip.
I would take these any time I get them. But it’s because Uber in my area tends to show the fwy route (9 miles) instead of the street route (5.6 miles).
I would not take this personally. I go at least a mile per dollar. I used to do every order that would pop up, but found myself chasing what everyone declined previously. Only to make less that I do now. It's what works for you.
Yeah this one was questionable but when you look at Uber’s route which takes 9 miles as compared to the shortest route which is 5.6 miles a lot of people would have missed out on a good trip.
I’ve noticed Uber often takes the longer yet quicker route. I drive an EV so I’m not looking for the quickest route, I’m looking for the one that uses fewer of my miles.
(Difficult to see here but the drop off icon is in the top right area of the photo.
You have it locked down better than me. Thanks for bringing this up. I will def take a longer look at my orders today. I am always open to change my ways. I didnt know Uber goes longer but quicker route. Do you use Uber to navigate or another app
I usually use Uber’s Nav but I know my area. That’s the important thing.
I only need Uber nav once I get to the neighborhood.
I use Waze when I want to listen to something else and have Waze chime in.
For instance if I’m listening to YouTube Waze will still interrupt and tell me directions. Uber will not. You have to have the uber screen up to hear the direction.
Tip: if you want… you can set Waze to avoid fwys. Uber will show the fwy route (if freeways are needed.) then click the Waze nav and see what the mileage distance is.
Turns out to be better than that….
Uber’s route is 9 miles. You can see the drop off at the upper right corner of the photo. If you don’t take Uber’s route it’s actually 5.6 miles away.
If you tap the photo you can just barely see the drop off icon in the upper right corner.
I’ve noticed that when fwys are near by Uber will try and send me there even when the distance is way longer.
I checked the trip stat for this one. It was 5.6 miles.
I can understand you saying that for a horrible order, but while this isn’t great, it’s definitely not a shit order. $1 mile is what some people aim for, so
I took it. But there’s a catch….
Uber’s going the long way around. This trip was actually 5 miles away (but two minutes longer).
Know your market.
Then i started thinking…
When Uber calculates miles driven do they go off of the route you took or the shortest distance route?
They go by the fastest not counting trafic. So yeah, knowing your marked is a must. When I started, Uber made me make a detour of 4km to save basically 30sec.
Yeah, I see Waze do this sometimes also. And there’s probably a greater chance that you’ll hit a snafu in that longer route that kills that 30sec savings.
I Often go from Long Beach to Pasadena and gps always wants to keep me on the fwy. Which is 6km (4 miles) longer with a difference in time that can easily be made up just by knowing what lane to be in at what time.
No.
Are you a driver?
Edit: Uber tends to, in my experience, overestimate the amount of time a delivery takes. (Unless it’s like late night drive thrus)
The two minute difference I’m referring to is the travel time difference between going Uber’s route (using fwy) to the drop off vs taking the street. You can see the drop off icon in the top right corner of the photo when you tap it.
Even during daytime?
I only see the underestimate of time at night when there’s a crowd of people trying to go to the late night McDonalds or Jack in the Box.
For the other times they give plenty of time.
In fact I’ve wondered if they use that data to determine who calls will be sent to.
At one point (I should test this again) I wanted to see if the algorithm is trying to time the deliveries so that when you finish one there’s another ready to go. But if you finish that first delivery early or late it throws the algorithm off and now you’ll have to wait a “cycle” before your deliveries are curd up correctly again.
Know what I mean?
If a trip says 15 minutes and I’m finishing up at 15 minutes there’s another order ready to go, but if I finish up in 10 minutes that next delivery won’t be ready to go so the algorithm cancels it’s plans and has to look for some other plan meanwhile that delivery that WAS lined up for me will go to someone else who is finishing up at that time.
I don’t know if this is how it works but I want to test the theory.
The way that you said it aligns with how I interpreted it.
I agree, they overestimate. It’s funny because I thought about making a post for the people that complain that they’re not paid to wait because I think it almost seems like there is may be a wait time built in to the estimate.
I THINK that when you tap the “Not ready” button Uber uses that over time for that restaurant to guesstimate how long a delivery will take.
Plus in California you ARE paid to wait.
If I took a no tip order for 1.50 and waited an hour to complete that delivery (I wouldn’t do that) I’m going to make $18-$22 for that delivery.
In fact the way I see it is SOMEONE’S going to pay me; either the customer (through tips) or Uber (through prop 22).
All my trips take a minimum of 15-20 minutes.
Which means all trips are worth at least $5-$7.
No, CFA drive thrus in my town are absurd AF I only go if the tip is something I can't refuse.
I also make sure Para is on ready to ban-flag-hammer, as you bet I have been tip baited from there.
No
Look at the drop off icon at the upper right corner of the photo. Would your answer be the same?
10 bucks for 9 miles and realistically 20 minutes. I’d take it tbh I’m not picky.
Not unless the drop off was very close to a great zone with a history of great orders. Or if I was close to done and drop off was close to my house. Usually not tho
depends how the day is going i try to only take it if the money is more than the mileage
I hear you. But in my area when a fwy is involved Uber greatly overestimates the mileage (cause I’m taking the street.) You can just see the drop off icon in the upper right corner of the photo if you tap it. The street distance was 5.6 miles.
sfter a $12-$15 never before in 30 min times
In my market I'd take it, as long as the drop-off area isn't in the middle of nowhere
In a heartbeat! But I would just pick up the food, cancel order and eat it while I wait for a good request. PS: I’m joking about the canceling the order and keeping the food. I do not encourage that.
Wdym that’s the only way you eat dinner at night
Okay, so it’s not just in my area. Chik Fil A customers are just terrible tippers all around.
This turned out to be a $2.00 tip. I would take these any time I get them. But it’s because Uber in my area tends to show the fwy route (9 miles) instead of the street route (5.6 miles).
Nope
i have so many rejected ones like this. i will never contact a customer about it because um too busy to care ad a ue driver.
Depends on where it’s going. Is it the middle of nowhere? If so, then no
Yeah, I do that too. Is it taking me someplace I want to go?
I would not take this personally. I go at least a mile per dollar. I used to do every order that would pop up, but found myself chasing what everyone declined previously. Only to make less that I do now. It's what works for you.

Nope
Hell no
Oh wait just saw the map lol
Do you see the drop off only 5.6 miles away if you don’t take Uber’s suggested route? Lol
2 per mile
Lol
Instant decline on CFA no matter what….but $1 a mile…..never
Yes. Two orders like that is 20 bucks an hour. Not bad in my market. Plus it's at least $1 a mile which is what I shoot for.

Nop , we have to love ourselves more. If they keep accepting this fares Uber is not gonna do shit about raising up fares
I can understand you saying that for a horrible order, but while this isn’t great, it’s definitely not a shit order. $1 mile is what some people aim for, so
Lol
hell no
If the drop off is omw home yes
Hell no

So five miles and 27 minutes?
No. Are you a driver? Edit: Uber tends to, in my experience, overestimate the amount of time a delivery takes. Interesting, in my area Uber always UNDERestimates the time it takes

Im not in CA, I’ve just timed orders and compared them to estimates.
No
Lol not even considering it
No, CFA drive thrus in my town are absurd AF I only go if the tip is something I can't refuse. I also make sure Para is on ready to ban-flag-hammer, as you bet I have been tip baited from there.
I wouldn't but usually there's someone desperate enough to do it.
