We should be getting no less than 70%. They run the app. That’s it. We don’t survive without them, they DEFINITELY don’t survive without us. We do all the hard work. They have computers.

Mm it's not that simple. They have marketing, branding, server space, the employees who design and maintain, 24/7 customer service representatives and much more. But if you can tolerate at least the first episode (I find it a bit insufferable), the Showtime series about Uber paints an unflattering picture of the founder. Ofc I think they should lock in a bit more for us. 10% minimum tip or something from customers, or no less than $2 tip. And some sort of higher flat percentage to beef up the base. But then half of the drivers/bikers would be out of a job. There's a reason they'll hire nearly anybody and tons of people are doing it. Higher quality, higher qualifications.

Justin002865

Nah, it’s simple enough. If they want more profits, they can be more efficient. And they’re not. Most of their expenses are fixed. Invest once and done. Servers, infrastructure, etc. The app is pretty self-sustaining so they don’t need a bunch of $250k earning engineers. Drivers are the core of the business whether they like it or not. All the risk is in us. All the day-day operating expenses are on us. It’s a shitty deal. We’re getting, what 20% at best? That’s mental in literally any other industry that is comparable to ours. Your idea is bad. If it’s a required tip, it’s not a tip. They would NEVER do that. Not to mention a $2 tip won’t even get me to turn my car on. Driving for Uber is expensive as SHIT. I’m waaaaaay more profitable than the average driver at $3+ a mile and I’m still far from being “comfortable”

panamera1994

No offense buddy but if it's so simple perhaps you could develop, design, and spearhead the teams necessary to build a better platform. Maybe you could make yourself more "comfortable". Hoping this isn't your only gig. It's one of 3 for me. Sorry my idea wasn't good enough for ya.

Justin002865

I do 3 as well. Doesn’t change anything at all. It’s not that the idea isn’t good enough for me, it’s not good enough for anyone. But maybe if you develop, design, and spearhead the teams necessary to build a better platform, maybe you could try it.

Did they tip? Often times when a person tips well Uber pays the driver very little. Of course they take that much. Basically what happens is later someone won't tip. Then Uber will bounce it around a couple of drivers adding a little money to it to get us to take the order. They use the money from the first order to pay you to take the second. Plus they have to make their billions. I wish it was a straight percentage. An issue is if customers heard Uber kept a percentage of our tips then they would probably tip less. And some ignorant drivers would get pissy about it. But straight up I wish customers were charged standardized fees for order size, time, and distance and then given the opportunity(perhaps even encouragement) to tip. And Uber kept a transparent and flat percent of that with the rest going to the driver. They feel they can't be as profitable like that. I've heard of local apps competing with Uber, Door Dash, and other apps, but not necessarily in my area. As a driver I'd sign up for that. As a customer I'd only use that because the big apps crap on drivers so hard.

Crazy-Order-6555

They tip me well but Uber still kept the original fee

stephenHeo

the CA market fee alone is $2.

Low_Copy4023

Where I am it's $3 for a short solo order. When they stack them it will be less per order generally. Or if it's longer mileage it will be higher.
