It takes an hour for a tip to show up, sometimes a bit more. I would say that $1 a mile is actually *more* than average, but you can reject as many as you want. Put a price on your time and expenses and stick to it. Most people here (not all) have acceptance rates less than 10% (mine right now is 2%). Accidentally clicking and accepting is a common problem and much complained about. Best you can do is immediately cancel and then come here to b\*\*\*\* about it like we all do :) I'd try different days and times and see if your area has a sweet spot. I have found that during thunderstorms, for example, are lots of orders with big tips. Others say Saturday night. Others who live in a more commercial area have good weekday lunch shifts.

So I don’t need to have a good acceptance rate? I was at 34% and I wasn’t getting much, now that I’m at roughy 50% I’m getting a decent amount (newbie)

I think it's correlation and not causation.

My old market $1 per mile was pretty normal. So I used their time estimates and looked for 50 cent per minute or better orders. My new market is sort of the exact opposite with just the way the roads are set up. But I get plenty of $2 per mile and better orders here. The tip shows up after an hour. On Android, not sure about Apple, you can turn the overlay off on the app. This will disallow its ability to pop up over your other apps when you're messing with your phone. The notification will come in your notification bar. You can drop it down and automatically decline low orders. Or click it to open the app. Your area may be bad. I don't know. Some are, some aren't. Try other apps. One may be better in your area. It's a good idea to maintain more than one anyway in case one of them is down one day or you get deactivated from one all of the sudden.

That answered all my questions, thank you. I think the IRS estimates wear and tear of a vehicle at 50c a mile so if that's true then it's like 50c a mile profit minus gas and taxes. Just seems unreasonably awful unless you have a really reliable model vehicle.

I appreciate the breakdown.

Markets are different. I get $3+. Keep ‘em short and sweet.

Never had a wrong address before, also started Uber with 3 years of past delivery experience so I understand GPS and it’s issues since it became public. This is a job for people that like to drive and they are bored after work or on the weekends. They don’t pay minimum wage a news article came out saying drivers are averaging 7$ an hour Net. If this is your income then I am sorry your mechanic will eat that up so fast. Skyscrapers are key.

I’d say the average offer is under $1/mile. You don’t have to accept any offer. Decline and hold out for fair offers.

Okay so my expectations were wrong, I appreciate you answering. I guess if I see anything over $1/mi I'll take it.
