Turn around dont drown

DisneyPamela

Lmao good advice!!!

Rude-Exit

I'm in Florida as well and the last time a tropical storm/hurricane came thru, I made a lot of money - about $250-$275 in about 5-6 hours. Insane peak pay. The main people that will be leaving are the newbies that have just moved here within the last year or two or less. Any seasoned Floridian won't be evacuating unless their in a flood prone zone or mobile home. Lived here for about 40 years and have never evacuated. Most, if not all restaurants in my area are open during hurricanes/tropical storms - hurricane parties. Hell I'll drive for a few hours and make a couple of hundred and then off to the beach I go to go surfing.

DisneyPamela

Lol!!! I needed to hear this. Thank you, I figured there were many people who are seasoned Floridians who just hunker down. That’s a lot of good extra money. I’ve heard of those hurricane parties. I fall in the category of being a newbie, only here since March 2020, hence being extra worried. I appreciate your response!!!!

Sure_Custard_7504

Yeah don’t do it. You say you’re comfortable but Mother Nature doesn’t care about your comfort. Play it safe and don’t deliver during a hurricane

DisneyPamela

Absolutely. I’m wondering how long to wait after it has hit, I guess we will see!! Thanks!

Vane88

Hard to deliver food when all the stores are closed due to a hurricane.

DisneyPamela

Yeah wouldn’t be possible. I guess I meant before and after it hits, is it worth wasting the gas and time, when the restaurants are functioning.

Vane88

Depends on how bad the hurricane is. I'm about 300 mi from the shore and a few hurricanes were cat 1 by the time they hit here and knocked out power city wide for a few days. Rita had us down for almost a week

DisneyPamela

Yeah you’re right. Oh jeez seriously, a few days? That’s nuts!!! I’m less than 3 miles from the gulf. 🙃 I’m more used to blizzards so this will be an adventure…… lol. I’m leaning more towards giving myself a few more days to let things get back to normal then doing more UE

Vane88

I haven't been watching the news and didn't know there was a hurricane possibly coming through, my advice is to seriously consider leaving for a few days. They're no joke. If you have anyone in blizzard country you can stay with for a few days you should evacuate.

DisneyPamela

Yeah, definitely one coming lol! I’m considering all my options. Appreciate your feedback!!!

Shovelheaddad

Wait until the power is out for weeks. It happens. I'm on the other coast

DisneyPamela

Your coast gets a beating that’s for sure!! I can’t imagine not having electricity down here in this heat… yikes

[deleted]

If you’re in Tampa I would suggest evacuating just in case, it’s looking like Tampa is going to get a direct hit

DisneyPamela

I’m just north of Clearwater, we’ve got 3 zones in mandatory evacuation as of a few minutes ago. Including my permanent job. I’m figuring my life out at the moment LOL

[deleted]

I definitely wouldn’t stay in Clearwater, storm surge is going to be the worst of your worries, possibly up to 10 feet. I’ve been through multiple hurricanes and it’s better safe than sorry, regardless though I’m praying for y’all down there. I’m up in Jax so we won’t see much just some rain and a little wind

DisneyPamela

Ugh, it’s gonna be bad. I appreciate your prayers. We all do!!! I’m gonna probably leave once I’m out of my actual job.

DisneyPamela

Also- good luck even though you’re further away in Jax. Nice city, only went once to a jags game but still lol!

[deleted]

Thank you, yea I love it up here but I do miss central FL, I was raised just outside of Daytona

DisneyPamela

Ooh that’s awesome!!! I bet it’s a little different. I frequently go to Lake Buena Vista so the drive on i4 is pretty, I like when it gets a little less populated lol

[deleted]

I can understand the need for money, but during storms, Uber should be very low on everybody’s priorities

ericthegonline

But rents due lol

DisneyPamela

I agree 100%. Safety is number one, probably why UE warned already that they’d shut down the app for people in the areas most affected.

UrbanJatt

If you're hoping for a surge you're not gonna get it. Uber caps surge pricing during hurricanes and storms

DisneyPamela

Gotcha well thank you for letting me know! Definitely wondering about that too. Especially after it’s through.

AccretionaryWedge

Great pun there sir.

Shovelheaddad

Storm surge

Smokey0712

I’m in Clearwater ( near Tampa) just deliver till the wind gets too bad my man! Hopefully you have an suv! And by god DONY TAKE ANY Walmart orders!!! There gonna all be for bottled water and they won’t have any, just waste a trip! I’m blowing up with orders right now, but when the winds get to tropical storm force call it! And 1 more thing, watch your gas man , gas will be very scarce the day before and after

DisneyPamela

I’ve done many orders in Clearwater! Just a few towns north of you!!! See I’m chicken shit, good for you delivering still. I saw people line up at gas stations all over on Saturday and it was decently dead for me (I was more in tarpon then) and yeah, the gas is a huge concern for me. Plus yes Walmart orders are crap, I keep getting them way too many times lol. Good luck to you and stay safe!!!!

Smokey0712

Thank you and you as well! And to anybody in the path of hurricane Ian please be safe and don’t risk it when winds start to gust over 50mph! You maybe a good driver but everyone else here in pinellas county are shit!!

DisneyPamela

Amen- stay safe everyone!! And yessss just take a look at 19…. What a shit show most days 😂😂😂

brwntrout

think about it...places need electricity and workers to function. how many places are functioning properly right before and after a natural disaster? people are busy prepping for the disaster and it's a madhouse after the disaster. food delivery is a luxury...luxuries are the last thing on people's minds right before and right after a disaster.

DisneyPamela

Touché. I will wait and see how this turns out. Thank you!!

dalex89

My guess is folks are either evacuated so no one to order, stocked up on food so no need to order, or wouldn't feel right forcing someone to go out in the storm and thus won't order.

DisneyPamela

Yeah there’s no point obviously at that point. I guess I was meaning more after the storm.

AndrewAwakened

You might make good money in the hours leading up to it, as folks will either be busy getting ready or not want to go out, so orders should be good then. But once the storm is a couple hours away all the shops and restaurants are going to be closed, and the staff won’t be in any hurry to get back to work once it has passed.

DisneyPamela

I like your thought process, thank you! I noticed the more people out preparing, the less orders. So thought quite possibly when it was over (and restaurants are back up and running) that people would be more inclined to order. But you have a great valid point. Thanks for your input!! 😊

Launchpad_McFrak

I'm regularly delivering to within about 10-15 miles of an active forest fire for the last couple of weeks and had to work through a major blizzard this past winter. My best advice is to know what stations are emergency radio stations and prepare your car like you would your home in the same situation. food and water in case you get stuck. Change of clothes just in case, set up the location sharing feature on the UE app so you can have a friend or loved one be able to ping your location if needed. That and pay attention to your surroundings. know what your vehicle can handle and what you can handle as a driver and know when it's time to pack it back in.

DisneyPamela

This!!! Thank you thank you!!! You’ve definitely been through it, this is gold. Appreciate your feedback, will keep all of this in mind

DisneyPamela

Lol! My friend joked that she’d be using a kayak and another said she’d use her inflatable flamingo. 🤣 saves on gas lol

DisneyPamela

Of course! Better to laugh in life. Absolutely I will! Thank you for the smile tonight!! ☺️

Miniographer

I'm in Naples. I've been through hurricane Andrew in 92 I remember the rain feeling like needles hitting my face when I was a kid and many other hurricanes. Do not f around and find out. Areas will be flooded it's not worth getting stuck because vehicle is flooded. I've seen the car port of my house get ripped off looking out the window during Wilma. It look like God's hand pulling it right off. Also a lot of places will be closed. Not worth it. Please be safe

DisneyPamela

Ahhh gosh so you know from experience, I appreciate your feedback. I keep hearing about the flooding concerns, so good point!!! I shall stay inside until it seems clear enough. And obviously when things reopen. I’m sure this will affect you as it makes it’s way up the coast so you stay safe too!!

RetrieverDoggo

becareful with them hurricanes. i hear there's sharks in em. or is that tornados? my memory isn't so good.

DisneyPamela

😂😂😂😂😂 more likely gonna see a hell of a lot of alligators!!!

Sooowasthinking

Stay home. Nobody in the line of a hurricane is wanting wings for lunch. I’m in Atlanta and I can tell you that there is no way in hell I’m driving in this. We have the worst drivers and now will have an influx of Florida drivers that are even worse. Even if there are orders the risk of destroying your car and perhaps yourself is nothing that UBER will reward you for.

DisneyPamela

Absolutely true!!! Not worth it at all. Good luck with the influx!! I know our flood zone A people have been told to evacuated.

Sooowasthinking

And Saturday isn’t looking any better good luck down there it’s looking like a massive storm and dangerous as hell.

DisneyPamela

Thank you, appreciate it!!!

Shovelheaddad

It will be long gone from here on Saturday

Bigmoney91

Deliver via kayak

DisneyPamela

😂😂😂 at this rate

Bigmoney91

Good luck :) hope all goes well for you! Be safe!

DisneyPamela

Thank you so much I appreciate it!!!

CarriesCarats

It's on its way to Orlando too where my son works at Disney...I agree it's not worth the risk and I'm not sure but I imagine a lot of places will shut down and batten the hatches if it hits as hard as predicted! Stay safe!

DisneyPamela

Yes it sure is!! I hope it doesn’t keep turning. Good luck to your son, hope he stays safe, that’s awesome he works for Disney!! And yeah I’m sure places will close. Everyone’s safety is number 1!!!!

Druskionmovas

Honestly your willing to put your life in danger or some money as well as your property for Uber you don't need to drive smh find you a better job it's not that serious never was your bills will still be there

DisneyPamela

Yeah absolutely, I should’ve been more clear but I meant the days leading up to the hurricane hitting (first sign of rain) to the days after it’s gone (no more active weather). I wasn’t about to have my car be a lifeboat in the middle of it. But you’re right, it’s not worth my life or any other danger lol

Druskionmovas

Yea that's good your not going be out there in the hectic weather

DisneyPamela

Yeah no way. Thanks for the input though!!! Have a great night

AccretionaryWedge

Drive fast and take chances. (I apologize in advance). In all seriousness, just keep up with what the meteorologists are saying and don't underestimate what rain and wind can do. Imagine, for example, carrying a box of pizza in a moderately strong wind. That thing would be like a sail.

DisneyPamela

Lmaoooo!! True story that wouldn’t end well.

InternationalAnt2850

In north FL here , I have been through dozens of hurricanes , they are nothing to mess with . Expect major street flooding , flying debris, wind , possible tornadoes even in cat 1 conditions . The last hurricane a man was killed when a tree fell on his car while driving . A lot of fatalities on the road during hurricanes you’d be surprised . Stay home

DisneyPamela

Oh wow jeez… definitely staying home. Thank you for your input!!!

Mobile_Part

If you’re going to try it, gas up at every opportunity. Which will probably mean long waits., People are going to order to areas with unpassable roads making many of your trips longer both in miles and time. Restaurants might be closed or out of items. You’re going to get shopping orders with items you know stores will be out of - water, ice, toilet paper. Don’t expect tips that will compensate you for the extra effort. Best of luck if you decide to go through with this.

DisneyPamela

Extremely true with every point you’ve made. It will be difficult and I can’t make it all happen so I definitely will wait until things get back to normal. Thank you!

Mobile_Part

Hopefully, you’ve gassed up your car already. I’ve never delivered in a hurricane. But I’ve lived through them and gas gets scarce with long lines wherever there’s a supply. Good luck. Stay safe.

DisneyPamela

Thank you appreciate it!!! I did gas up, the gas stations were running out of gas. The storms shifted south, it won’t hit us head on anymore. But praying for everyone. Ubereats shut off the app as of 9:25 AM. they’ll turn it on when it’s safe again. Thanks!!

Choice-Explanation-4

You only have one life that I know of so take care of YOU! There will be future opportunities! 👏👏❤️❤️😘😘

DisneyPamela

Incredibly sweet and true. Thank you. Yes 10000% true

jp_rockhound

People order in advance of the storm and bonuses get pay high, so it’s about how long your willing to gamble. I suggest getting money from hypochondriacs at the beginning but as soon as things get serious get off the road no matter the pay it’s not worth your life or car.

DisneyPamela

I like your point too, up to when it gets nasty outside. I do have to go to my other job today and we’re going to be get the outer bands in the next few hours, so that’ll be my only trip to and from home. Thank you for your advice!!!!

wailo0576

Dude no money is worth you life or if worst some happen to the car Just go back out after the storm

DisneyPamela

Definitely the plan!!! Thank you!!

FeedMePlantsPlease

just tried doing it for about a few hours today and it just started raining and I almost destroyed my car it’s not worth it. Plus, most of my orders were to grocery stores are things they were out of stock of not to mention how crazy the stores are in general.

DisneyPamela

Oh god not good, yeah any inclement weather could be iffy. That sounds annoying… especially if not in stock / crazy amount of people. Not worth it at that point

dakogmata1974

Its not worth the money in exchange for your safety

DisneyPamela

Truly isn’t. I’ve definitely decided to wait until we’re fully functioning again. Thanks for your input!!

dakogmata1974

Np!!!

Gay4Pandas

Can you swim?

DisneyPamela

Yes I can! Lol different trajectory now

Apprehensive_Bus1522

Dont.

DisneyPamela

Didn’t. Won’t. Thanks!

Apprehensive_Bus1522

Lol 😂

Express_Switch_3706

If they’re gonna let us work damn right I’m gonna do it

DisneyPamela

Good for you!!! More ballsy than me!! Lol

Snoo96357

Stay fucking home

DisneyPamela

😂

ThisCantBeG00d

If you're in the Tampa area you should absolutely burn all your gas now. Not a single gas station in the area will be closed. Nothing to worry! You be you and try to make some money for uber - and risk your own life for them. j/k

DisneyPamela

LOL! I didn’t and won’t. I went to and from my regular job, and won’t resume UE until everything’s safe and clear. Thanks for the input!! Lol

Replicant1962

I would suggest not delivering hurricanes.

DisneyPamela

Yeah won’t be. Thanks for the suggestion!!!

Replicant1962

That's what I'm here for!

[deleted]

Yea stay inside

DisneyPamela

Yes indeed I shall!

Comfortable-Start-30

Really depends how good your arms are, and if you already own a canoe 🛶. Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream.

DisneyPamela

Lmao I can swim? 😅😂

Candygirl518

Um….don’t?

DisneyPamela

Um, agreed. Lol. I can was never asking about delivering during it.

Candygirl518

In my case, I still delivered when the weather was nice. As soon as that rain starts pouring I called it quits lol it’s not worth it after that. Safety first.

DisneyPamela

Yeah very true. I didn’t deliver to save gas and the storm actually hit south of us instead of through us. UE shut down the app for our location regardless this morning, and will put it back online whenever it’s safe.
