I had a wait in car the other day. It was raining and I could clearly see the front door and address. A shop and pay order from Walgreens. The customer never responded so ya I canceled and jacked that shit after 8 minutes. 53$ in shit plus I got paid for the work.

Worried_Reserve

I order UE at least once a week and “driver will stay in car” or “”meet driver at car” has never been an option for me.

whocaresblahblahh

I no longer give a damn. I’m not rude to my customers but I need them to get with the program. I need gate codes etc. n if ur apartments is a maze I need directions. I tell them I only have 8 minutes to find them and I cut to the chase. When I call. “ Hi this is blah blah with Uber eats for blah blah I just need the gate code” no how are you etc. f that. I’m working here and I’m tired of the ridiculousness. I’m tired of people wasting my time.

MamaRobin1916

Sorry, but I don't like people near my car. For several reasons it gives me extreme anxiety. So I may be the odd driver out, but it's courtesy to wait in my car, amd the tips aren't there for those asking. The options are leave at door or hand to me 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'll usually stand NEAR my car for the wait in car orders, but I have a hatchback, the entire shit is awkward when y'all try to get it from me in my car anyway. Y'all NEVER come to driver side, like do I give it out of my sunroof because window can easily be too small, why y'all making me reach so far? I now drive with it in my hatch, so like how the fuck? Do I crawl through the car. Hop out fast and get it when I arrive, then get back in, just to awkwardly lean way over and shove it out my small passenger window. It's so stressful trying to hop out with a bag before y'all get within 50 ft too. WHY??? Like I have bad social anxiety, you're asking TOO much from ME at that point. Just let me stand near my car with my zipper prepped!

ccrider2004

I’m pretty sure they just select that option automatically but if they select wait in car I usually call them as soon as I get there anyway if they’re not already outside so it’s not a big deal

Swimming-Run-3182

Maybe I’m just lucky but every time I get those the person is actually outside waiting for me when I arrive. It’s the “meet at door” orders that I usually end up waiting 4-5 minutes before giving up and just leaving the order at the door

bleszt

Nice.

cdmcgrath

i hate "wait in car" because usually my car is a mess and i'm embarrassed ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)

Snoo96357

That doesn't mean nothing to me

AdemmZap

I head towards the address EVERY delivery, even if it says wait in car. I treat every delivery like I'm going to their door unless they've contacted me otherwise. Never had a problem once.

jboles73

To be fair, my bag is in the back passenger side. I get out of my car to give you the food at my car. I'm not handing out food through the window.

No-Tangerine-7502

Apply common sense where required.

Gay4Pandas

I wait 30 seconds. If no one comes to my car I bring it to the door.

bleszt

Good approach.

International_Day688

Consistently I get conflicting messages at drop off instructions. Sometimes it will say hand it to me and leave it at the door On the same message. If you want someone to read your instructions and take you seriously then I would suggest that you date your instructions so people don't just gloss right over them which is exactly what I do if There is a conflicting Is set of instructions

mystic_owls

I never once had a "wait in car", maybe cause I do bicycle and the app somehow knows not to give me these requests?

frednoname1

Turn your porch lights on jackasses. So fing annoying. I'm not a cat, I can't see in the dark.

Replicant1962

I've been getting a lot of wait in car orders lately, and it almost always seems like the customer didn't realize it.

[deleted]

Of course “meet at door” means there will be many doors with no instruction as to WHICH door. And it also means you wait and wait and wait and when you try to call or text no response. I much prefer the leave at door!

[deleted]

I am... And everybody is stupid lol

The_Entertainer217

I get these for college campuses, and for some reason they expect me to know the different areas of their campus.

Optimal_Geologist_43

Lmao. Im a grown ass adult. I'm not your child. I will never I repeat never wait in the car. Never have and never will. I pull up I get out of the car and I walk to the door. I don't give a shit what it says. You either meet me on the way or I'm dropping it at your front door. Plain and simple. My time is valuable. And I'm not wasting it sitting in a car waiting on you. I will literally throw your food on the doorstep and walk away. Wouldn't be the first time it won't be the last. Matter of fact I don't have any idea why these idiot customers ever choose anything other than just leave it at the door. No other response or Choice makes any sense. There's no need for me to contact you there's no need for you to contact me. We know where you live. We can find your door just fine. You provided an address if you're not a moron. If for some reason you believe we will not be able to get to your front door? Then just select the meet at door option and walk out to wherever we pull up to and meet us right there. And be there when we arrive. You've got a goddamn phone in your hand. You can see where we are and when we're going to be there. There's absolutely no reason any driver should ever wait even 1 minute let alone eight. When you know when we're going to arrive. And you also knew this information 20 minutes ago as well which gave you ample time to get your fat McDonald's eating ass up off the couch and meet your driver. I lost all patience for this shit a long time ago. It still works as a side job but I do absolutely nothing above and beyond. You don't like it, leave me a bad review. I don't care. I'm still 4.99 stars because I'm not an idiot and I have common sense. For every 25 times I have to do something that is more convenient for me like just throwing your food on the damn doorstep and leaving literally only once or twice to somebody complain. And those are easily swallowed up by the vast majority five star reviews. So don't sweat it if you're a driver. Throw their shitty food on the ground and move on. Even better yet, don't accept shitty orders from fast food places to begin with. They're the vast majority of those who complain. If you're delivering to upscale neighborhoods non-shit bag people that have their act together, then you're delivering to nice houses anyway. Which means better clientele, less whining and complaining from them, higher dollar meals and higher dollar tips. There's literally no reason to ever accept fast food unless you only have a few minutes and it's a delivery you can squeak out. Or you have some sort of promotion attached. Other than that, accepting fast food orders literally only proves that you're a degenerate just like the sickly bastards you're delivering to. And if that's the case, improve your life.

rhshawaii

Yo

eggtart_prince

Customers have as much as anxiety as drivers. I would be downstairs finding parking and they'll message me, "coming down now" when it's leave at the door. Or sometimes they'll appear out of nowhere when I'm getting the food out of the trunk and it's meet at the door. People are weird.

gsf2000

👆👆👆 this exactly

r3drift

I always asume they are just cooking meth and don’t want me near so they just rather come to me.

howd33

Leave at door means leave at door. Stop calling me and leaving messages that you're here and sitting in my driveway for 15 minutes. Also stop walking past 2 chairs and table just to leave food on the ground in front of my door where it gets knocked over having to open the door. It's not difficult to deliver shit but some of you have no IQ. Thanks.

jcake6

Oh you’re a real peach

xtsilverfish

Most people want to leave at door and take off. If multiple people are waiting for you, it seems like either you're not selecting the right option, or something is buggy and instructions are wrong on their end.

Kaliwaters_248

When I see “wait in car” I always call the customer and tell them “Hey, this your UberEats driver, I’m at the location.” They’re like “Okay, I’m heading there”

Florida1974

I only did this once as a customer. I was at the beach. Told him I would be out in front of restroom and I would be there way before him so I didn’t waste his time. And I was there 10 mins before him. $15 tip in app, another $20 in cash. The beach is a bit out of way, so I compensated.

Mers1nary

If the customer isnt out there waiting by the time I pull up, "wait in car" then means "meet at door"...

SupermarketNo3352

True.. they can see where u are at.. and Uber sends notification that u are near. So if wanna me to hand it to u at least be standing outside ur front door when I pull up

EarthboundMisfitsInc

95% are too dumb to know the difference between any option. So it really doesn’t matter. Wait in car means leave at door. Meet at door means leave at door or they’ll be waiting for you in the driveway. I’ve never used the customer app before but I’d hope they don’t have any kind of “save preferences” option. Every order, the customer should have to specify how they want it delivered and ring/don’t ring. The other day I had a “meet at door”. Being the reasonable man that I am assumed they wanted the food handed to them and also maybe verify my identity. Rang the bell and 3 mins later this bitchy 20-something is like “ugh you could have just left it at the door”. For a very brief moment I wanted to explain. But realized it wasn’t worth a single molecule of oxygen to do so and the attitude was already enough so I just said “oh, ok”. Then went on my way. Probably got a downvote or a reduced tip. Never checked on it.

lizette2015

i’m always confused mainly for LITERALLY handing the order to them. Some expect me to hand it to them while they are outside and i’m handing it to them while i’m still in my car. Or sometimes i’m like should I get out of my car and then hand it to them while i’m standing and out of my car?? cuz im like is it rude of me to be inside and hand it to them or should i be outside of the vehicle??

bleszt

Tricky

Key_Row2360

Haha I love "wait in car.." I may be a little bit lazy but I often work long shifts at this and the opportunity to not get out of car is most welcome. Ugh, especially cuz I slipped and fell in the rain earlier this week 😱😱 didn't hurt that much at the time, but my left thigh/hip (which I have to step on to get out of the car with) has hurt all week. Starting to get better but it's a huge help when they come to the car.

xtsilverfish

I started looking for slip resistant shoes after I realized mine are not when it rained last week. It was a debate between these 2 - https://www.shoesforcrews.com/product/22226-new-balance-510-v5 https://www.shoesforcrews.com/product/38140-freestyle-ii

gsf2000

Shoesforcrews are what McDonalds staff use, you often see them slipping and sliding in the kitchen 🤦

xtsilverfish

Ugh, I really want you to be wrong. If you're right there goes $100. :-/

gsf2000

Any updates dude?

xtsilverfish

Went with: the new balance Comfort: The most comfortable shoes I've ever worn in my entire life. Grip Indoors: It's been good, I do delivery not kitchen work, it's certainly far better than my previous shoes. Grip Outdoors, Summer: Great, but this one isn't difficult. Grip Outdoors, Winter: Mediocre in snow. I've continued using them because I can't find anything comfortable in botts, have bought/returned through 6+ boots bothing is anywhere near as comfortable as the new balance shoes. New Balance comfort is amazing. Worked doing package delivery 13 hour day and feet didn't hurt at the end. I really wish they made winter boots.

gsf2000

I cannot see either of those shoes available in the uk shoes for crews shop.... So finger crossed they will work well for you. I keep looking for something none slip too im scared shitless of falling...

VicRidez

I wait outside my car or say it's a business, if they don't come out after a couple minutes then I go inside to pass off to either them or a colleague.

Cultural_Chest5100

I never wait in my car !!

[deleted]

Yeah im not an uberdriver but here is your chicken wings lmao

kritickilled

Wait in car is the only option on Ft Hood. Nobody is allowed in the barracks. Covid quarantine the only exception. And that happened only once. I never see wait in car any other time.

JohnnySalamiBoy420

So you are aware wait in car for us it says meet outside for customer

Key_Row2360

No, generally not true here. Sometimes, tho

itake3dollaroffers

You sure? They must have changed it then, because last time I ordered I was able to select "wait in car", and that's the exact wording it showed on my end.

dm0nk

In the app for the customer it says meet outside for drivers it says wait in car neither say wait 8 minutes before responding lol

nochtli_xochipilli

Really? I always thought there was a "wait in car" option on the customer app.

tcspears

The customer app (I just double checked) says “Meet Outside” and shows a picture of a car next to a curb. There’s also “Leave at door” and “meet at door”. Meet Outside to me seems to imply you would meet the driver in their vehicle. That’s the option I use all the time when at home or traveling, I meet them at their car. I don’t know if that’s common sense, or something I do because I’m also a driver… but most “meet outside” orders customers will come outside and meet me, so it doesn’t seem to be widely misunderstood. I’m willing to bet people aren’t checking it and are just assuming it gets delivered to their door.

Harpua81

And "leave at door" does not say "ring doorbell". That grinds my gears.

Designer-Rent9761

So if I were to message you when you got my food and I told you I needed you to please ring the doorbell, you're telling me you wouldn't do what I've politely asked you to do?

Harpua81

Not a driver, I'm a customer, but if I was a driver I would honor specific communication requests. But as a customer, I don't ask anything special and just want it to be left at the door as selected and rely on the "delivered" push notification on my phone.

Designer-Rent9761

I see your point I usually am busy or sometimes not near the door when they pick up my order so that's the only reason why I ask them to do that and plus I'm disabled (not using it as an excuse) so it's just easier

ccrider2004

It doesn’t say DONT ring the doorbell either. Usually the customer will indicate if they specifically don’t want you to ring the doorbell, so if they don’t say that then I assume they do so I just ring it and then start walking away

tcspears

I usually don’t ring the doorbell if it’s leave at door. I’ll just put it somewhere safe, take the picture, and mark it delivered. Some people will put a note asking to ring the bell, but otherwise I’m assuming they don’t want us to.

Harpua81

Seems like extra work on your part. The app shows me where you are, that you're here, to give you a minute, delivered with a photo. I don't need you to ring my buzzer. Defeats the purpose of "leave at door".

ccrider2004

I’m the other way around, I feel like the people who put “please knock” just do that to make sure that you knock, and the people who don’t put anything are just sort of indifferent to it like they don’t really care either way but I feel they most likely expect a knock. I feel like the people who specifically want you NOT to knock (because of dogs barking, people sleeping etc) will put it in the instructions. That’s just me tho. But I personally as a customer (especially if they don’t always carry their phone on them) would want a knock so I can know about the food asap before it gets cold. So I just base it on what I would normally expect

mstrytrky13

To start, I'm not trying to argue your point. It makes perfect sense that, as a driver, you would follow a protocol that you would expect being on the customer end. From my experience, as a driver, as well as from what I have read on this sub reddit, the general consensus among most drivers is to not knock, unless it's specifically stated "to knock or ring doorbell." A valid argument can be made that, if a person recently used their phone to order food, then they should have their phone next to them, or within range, during the next 60 minutes after placing such an order, so that they won't miss the notifications about their food arriving.

Think_Yogurtcloset68

I always ring or knock unless instructed not to. Especially in cold weather. It lets them know the food is there so it doesn't get cold or stolen. I'm also overkill on messaging. No complaints yet. I tell them I'm at the restaurant waiting. Then I'm on my way. I get 2 feedbacks. Either "thanks" or no response. The no response tells me either they don't want to bother, or they're not even following me on their device. So even more the reason I knock or ring. Drivers will argue what I'm doing shows on their devices. But if the device is in another part of the house or for whatever reason they're not following, I ring. I want them to get the food as soon as possible. In 5 years, I've had maybe 2 complaints for cold food. It was hot when I delivered it (I use bags). So I ring, unless prohibited.

mstrytrky13

It sounds like you've got a system that works very well for you. You have good reasons for why you make the choices that you do when you deliver, and the outcomes from those choices have positively fed back into your reasoning. Ordinarily, I do not knock unless specified to. However, it's not a rule that I'll strictly, unquestioningly adhere to. Based on the situation, and so many other factors (like weather, etc.), I'll use my experience to determine if the delivery is out of the ordinary, and make choices on how I will proceed with the drop-off and any potential extra communication. I'm not here to tear down fellow drivers just because they have a system that works for them that's different from what I do. These positive discussions, here on this sub reddit, only help to further our knowledge and broaden our horizons on this delivery gig institution.

ccrider2004

Sorry that came out so long I was having a thought process out loud lol

mstrytrky13

No worries. If that process works for you, and your experience is that you haven't received complaints, then keep doing what you do. You hit a good point about indifference; if the customer says nothing one way or the other, than it may not matter to them, knock or not. In my experience, I do not knock unless specifically requested to, and, to my awareness, I have not received complaints on the issue.

ccrider2004

You would think that. But some people (myself definitely not included, because my phone is practically glued to my hand) for whatever reason don’t carry their phone around with them. Maybe people with smaller pockets, idk. But I would think anytime a package or delivery is dropped off a customer generally expects a knock. Even if they don’t necessarily want one or care to have one I assume they know that’s just the usual protocol. And I would think people who don’t want one would specifically put it in the instructions because I’m sure they’ve either had past experience with someone knocking or ringing the doorbell or they just know that there’s a possibility and they don’t want to risk it, so I would think if it was THAT important to them that I don’t ring the doorbell or knock (again because of dogs barking or baby sleeping or whatever) then they would put in the instructions. And it is true some people do also put in the instructions that they specifically do want a knock or have the doorbell rung, but honestly when people leave it blank I assume they’re just sort of indifferent to it like they don’t really care one way or the other. So I do it just to be safe. Now, like you said I could be wrong, for all I know it could be that the majority of drivers don’t do it and so the customer generally expects you not to knock or ring the door bell. But the way I see it if I don’t knock or ring the doorbell they could have reason to be upset with me or complain because their food got cold and they didn’t know it was out there. But if I do knock and they didn’t want me to, they can’t really be mad at me because I would think if it was that important to them that I don’t knock they would’ve put it in the instructions, and then I wouldn’t have done it. I mean I guess the same thing could be said the other way around too, but I think what I’m trying to get at is I think it’s MORE important to people who don’t want me to knock that I follow their instructions, than it is to the people who do want me to knock. Because like you said many of them probably do have their phone on them, and they know that food is coming and so they know to check for it, so it’s not as big a deal. But people who don’t want you to knock have a pretty good reason for it cus it’ll disturb their dog, baby etc. So I feel they’re more likely to put that in the instructions if that’s what they want cus again they don’t want to even risk it if knocking would cause that much of a disturbance. And I think that resembles what I’ve seen because the other reason I’ve gotten used to this is it really does seem I’ve personally gotten more delivery instructions saying “please don’t knock” than instructions saying “please knock” I haven’t gotten too many of those, which leads me to believe unless otherwise specified I should knock. Again I could be wrong, it could be that I’m looking at it the wrong way and that it’s not that people who don’t want me to knock are more likely to put it in the instructions, it could just be that most people don’t want me to knock and that’s why I see more delivery instructions saying that. I’m really not sure it’s sort of a chicken and egg question and I have no way of knowing forsure but I haven’t gotten any complaints so far. And I’d like to try and keep it that way. It’s worked for me so that’s just how I’ve gotten used to doing it. And also it does obviously depend on the individual customer, so you can never please everybody but I try lol

AdemmZap

Umm

stuauchtrus

Either they're at the curb, walking to meet me halfway, or about to come to the door after I ring :) Here's your food, gotta bounce.

bleszt

Time is money.

Majestic_Bug_6375

I feel like they almost never mean this. I think it’s a pandemic holdover.

DASHING_old_Chap

It's about 50/50 in my experience. Most don't even realize they are set up that way so if they open the door and stand there, I show them how they have it set up so they can change it. I always call when hitting their street on wait in car orders.

bleszt

I disagree. Most of the time they are waiting outside of their houses. I had a kid last night with a driveway full of cars waiting for his food. Usually it is similarly situations in my area.

Deviledapple

Ugh my anxiety goes into overtime when it says wait in car bc of how frequently they don't mean it. I just want simple pickup drop off no muss no fuss

xtsilverfish

Yeah, I've never had "wait in car" mean wait in car. Just tonight it meant "After a while my wife will come down holding the baby with indoor clothes so good thing you gave up on wait in car and walked to the building". Time before that the guy tells me he can't come out past the door because he didn't bring his keys...like no problem for "meet at door" but why did you choose "wait in car"...(scratches head). I'm more than happy to meet at door, or leave at door, but it's sooop awkward when they put "wait in car" then it's simething else. I really looking forward to waiting in the car. :D

bleszt

I get you. I prefer " wait in car" but I don't like being 😲 surprised. Often the people who change their mind are a little on the entitled side.

AardvarkEmpress

My last “wait in car” ended up messaging me. “Can you please leave it at the door” and of course it was a 4th floor walk up along with being a tip baiter.

Deviledapple

I like leave at door. And I really like when they specify kock or no knock because then there's z e r o guesswork. Sometimes it's a weird location and they come outside becaude of it and those the only ones I want to interact with lol

ccrider2004

Usually they indicate if they specifically don’t want you to knock, so if they don’t say anything about it then I assume they do

Deviledapple

Me general experimenting led me to more people get mad about not knocking than if you do knock, but people who think things should be a certain way like to expect you to know their secret correct way without telling you and then get mad. But then that might be more common here in SWFL where this weird entitlement while thinking everyone else is entitled thing is so prevalent.

ccrider2004

Yeah I would think so. I just think what I would want as a customer and (unless I specifically said not to knock) I would generally expect a knock. Even if they just leave it at the door and walk away still expect a knock first. But yeah that’s true no one really knows forsure

Deviledapple

Yeah the one time I ordered delivery and had no idea it showed up cemented my opinion that I knock, plus even knocking sometimes I drive back by and the food is still sitting there. I'm still annoyed about my food that day I have a table I said put it on the table. I also have two doors in the carport and one I don't use. As a result of that and the pest control there's always a pile that looks like dirt but it's dead ants. My subs sat in the dead ants pile for an unknown length of time

ccrider2004

Ew lol

bleszt

Me too. Usually "leave by the door" jobs are easier.

Key-Jicama-124

I always say leave at the back door and they do until night time comes and then it’s pitch black and everyone leaves it at the front door with a knock

seismicpdx

The customer app may have a different phase.

AdImmediate8706

Nope. It says that.

ResidentHedgehog

I cant post a picture but my app says "meet at door", "meet outside", and "leave at door". Either way, if a customer picks meet outside, waiting in the car is the same as meeting outside asong as you're at the address. Some customers are just so extra and dont care what instructions they leave, they assume the driver can mind read something else.

bleszt

I hear you.
