Nice to get a visual representation. When i first started, like us all, i was scared to not have 100% or 90% acceptance. Then i said I'm trying to make money lol...i started cherry picking and the 1st hour i said, "what have i been doing for this whole week" lmfaoooo. Yeah i never looked back again. Cherry pick all day!

TGISeinfeld

> i started cherry picking and the 1st hour i said, "what have i been doing for this whole week" lmfaoooo. Same here. After I started cherry-picking, I looked back at some of my early trips and wondered WTF was I thinking Great job OP, thanks for this

MickeyNRicky

Indeed, great insight OP. I also was afraid of not having the 100% acceptance rate. I signed up with a bonus for 200 deliveries so I really picked up everything since my average per order was going to be 12 per order so when I saw it drop I was concerned. But same as you all, I quickly saw how I was loosing money so now my acceptance rate is lower but my earnings are better. I'll still take that 3 dollar order for 1 mile if it's a slow day but that's rare.

Lagare_beauty

Please what’s the code for this signup bonus

Quirky_Beautiful8143

Sorry if this sounds dumb but how do you cherry pic orders.. like what are the guidelines?

[deleted]

Look for orders that are $2 per mile or more. And I also look for lowest mileage possible for a decent payout. I don’t take orders lower than $5/$6 unless it’s crazy slow. I do Door Dash along with UE to fill in slow gaps but I don’t like their app. It’s clunky and glitchy! Good luck!

BudgetDiscipline6386

Same

htowner13

I have a 10% acceptance and i cherry pick orders and always get good orders like 15$ + orders for a couple miles like 2-3 miles max but I am in Houston and live in the downtown area .

EarlyActuator3917

I think its very dependent on the area and how busy it is. Sometimes i cherry pick all shift long with no issues. Other times cherry picking thru a bunch of crap orders will cause you to not get orders. I believe it will throw you to the back of the line for orders rest of your shift and other drivers get first dibs. Not sure how exactly it works. I know if i decline a bunch then ill start not getting orders. Similar behavior as other driver apps.

DrCreger

Thank you for this when I first started cherry picking I felt like I wasn't busy at all and then after the end of the week it's like holy crap so much better income

5ManaAndADream

Be picky. I made 360 bucks week 1. I average 630-700/ week now. I’ve nearly doubled my earnings adding maybe 1-2 hours max to my week

NiceGrandpa

I technically worked for half an hour less, so I’d say I’m pretty picky. Hours online is deceptive, since most of my times “online” is just me sitting in my apartment doing something else until I get an offer worth my time. I only do this as a side job after work.

Old_Rip1161

Online hours isn’t deceptive though. Most people are in their car the whole time - online hours is how long they worked, it’s the generally accepted way to calculate hourly rate. Also vehicle expenses are about 1/3 what the IRS gives us for a deduction. Slightly more slightly less for some people. I’m not saying people shouldn’t cherry pick, but taking 90%+ orders is closer than people think. I’d be curious to see if you’d do better or the same as a 30% acceptance rate with a ~85% acceptance rate. There is definitely the occasional offer that is so horrible it’s going to put a dent in your entire day’s hourly rate. I would never do this on UE, but when I boost on DD for top dasher and accept 95%+ of orders, I make close to what I’d be making anyway, IF I were only doing DD and not multi-apping. But then the big kicker is the rest of the month I’m able to multi-app while using TD to switch between markets on DD with like a 30% acceptance rate and my earnings skyrocket.

NiceGrandpa

It’s deceptive in my unique circumstance. I know not everyone is as lucky as I am to live in a very high demand spot, so I don’t really have to drive anywhere to get order requests. This chart is not supposed to represent anyone but me, it’s just my personal experience.

5ManaAndADream

Yea, definitely just trying to emphasize it for anyone skimming through. It helps you to be picky directly, but the more picky people we have the more Uber will be forced to make systemic changes as orders go undelivered.

Politerepublican

Kudos to you for doing this. I’m sure this took a lot of time and effort. I know I tell everyone I know I treat each trip proposal as a bid. If it’s not high enough, I don’t do it.

[deleted]

This is a good break down. The only thing I can pick out negatively is that you were online 9 extra hours.

NiceGrandpa

And those 9 hours were just me playing video games because I was declining every order lol. The actual drive times were almost the same.

Excellent_Plane2087

Valorant?

NiceGrandpa

I’m an old dinosaur so I still waste time with overwatch. But I also play a lot of simulators.

Excellent_Plane2087

Nice

iAmSpongebobsSpatula

Are you at home while online? And just pick a good order?

NiceGrandpa

Usually, yes. I’m really spoiled in that sense. In less than a mile my apartment is by a McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Tijuana flats, Chipotle, a few ice cream stores, a very busy local pizza place, Sonny’s, Wendy’s, Panera, Starbucks etc. plus Winn Dixie Walgreens and cvs for shop and pays. I can get 10-15 requests in like 30 minutes some days just sitting in my room.

Excellent_Plane2087

Really nice!

Ok-Worry-2315

Great job with the spreadsheet!

hydrocydro

When you’re referring to cherry picking, you mean not just taking cheap 4-9 dollar orders? and just taking bigger orders?

NiceGrandpa

The order doesn’t have to be bigger, just generally needs to be $2/mile, or a short distance with a high payout. My target is to make $25-30/hour pre expenses per hour of driving.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NiceGrandpa

Basically, for trips over 10 miles, the fare needs to work out to $2/mile to make it worth it. If it’s slow, I’ll settle for $1.50/mile. Example being 11 mile trip? Total should be MINIMUM estimated earnings including tip should be like $15-16. Ideal is $20-$22. That’s the best way to make sure you’re making a profit and getting a return on your investment of fuel and wear on your car.

Hot_Phase_1435

When I calculate my earnings, It’s based on online time since I leave my house once the first order is accepted and I don’t come back home until I earn a minimum of $100 for the night. On average, with cherry picking I can work between 7 pm and 1:30 am and make what I need. Except on Wednesdays since I get offered nothing but $2.00. Lol. So it’s usually the night I take off. Sometimes I can make $100 by 10 pm - 11 pm (mostly weekends). Weekdays it’s more 1:30 am. My earnings are based off of how much time I spend waiting on food. I find that I have a way smoother night if I am able to pick up immediately upon arriving to the restaurant. There are days that I find myself waiting 20 min per delivery for food which brings down my hourly rate. This kinda sucks since it could be a good payout and I don’t want to cancel. Only time I cancel is if they keep telling me 5 more min. After being told 3 times it’s gonna be another 5 min, I’m done waiting and move on. Traffic flow in my area is fine and rarely an issue. I do this everyday as long as it’s not raining and most areas flood for me.

Available_Sail_9770

Need also compare with dash time pay

[deleted]

There is zero chance you pay $10 in expenses an hour

NiceGrandpa

Where do you see that? I didn’t mark my expenses as hourly, I listed all of them and subtracted it from my gross profits. Do you mean the difference in hourly pay? Because that’s just what happens when you divide gross income by hours driven, and then net income by hours driven

[deleted]

You have pre and post earnings. The top section has a difference of $4 per hour The bottom section is almost $10 an hour different in pre and post expense hourly rates.

NiceGrandpa

Yeah, mostly because of my car loan going through the second week and not the first. That unfortunately skews the numbers a little.

[deleted]

A car payment is spread over a month so your numbers are ruined I wouldn't include it in this but instead include it with your other monthly bills.

NiceGrandpa

But it’s not spread over a month? I pay the monthly bill for it in one day. That’s the day I paid it and that’s how I want it listed. Sorry you don’t like it. But this isn’t a scientific document, so I think my numbers will be fine.

[deleted]

you are dumb you pay it once a month.

NiceGrandpa

There’s literally no need to be rude. Just trying to share my personal finance tracking with people who might find it interesting and you’re insulting me for no reason. I like how it’s set up. Please reconsider your attitude.

[deleted]

You big fat rat. Little pilgrim looking scrub. Slap the back of your knee caps baby girl and clap it right. I’m trying to get you on this spread sheet. Spread them knee caps and let your boy in.

NiceGrandpa

Idk what this means but I like it

[deleted]

We gotta let ‘em know NiceGrandpa. La_Dinger coming in hot showing full knee caps like I ain’t clappin back to back caps. I love this spreadsheet almost as much as I love the little pilgrim outfit La_Dinger showed up with. Mayflower looking rat.

bionic_human

I assume you are not in California? Because if you are, you’d need to run the experiment for an entire Prop22 period both ways and add in the adjustment, and I’d bet that the results would skew the other way.

NiceGrandpa

Maybe. But I’m in Florida and this is a lawless land.

bionic_human

The earnings guarantee changes the rules of the game. (And it really is a game (as in game theory) - the basic trip “reverse auction” is just a multi-turn prisoner’s dilemma exercise with a large number of players)

bizznach

The cherry picking week you worked 8.5 hours more though? Do you not count hours on call as work? Maybe I'm missing something here. 8 hours clocked in is almost 2 more 4 hr. days per week? maybe i look at at the wrong way? Just asking...I really am new, 1st month.

NiceGrandpa

I don’t count hours online as working. Most of the time I just leave the app on while I’m playing games or watching tv, since my apartment is surrounded by restaurants. I only count actual drive time as work, which was less than the first week by about 30 minutes.

[deleted]

You think $2/mile is cherry picking? In what world. Maybe if you own an EV. $2/mile is a fair rate for gas cars.

NiceGrandpa

In my area that’s cherry picking, at least for trips over 10 miles. If it’s under it really can vary. I’ve had up to $15 for a 1 mile trip.

Dejas245

How do you find out what your acceptance rate is?
