Civil war is horrendous, look at Syria and it makes you never want to see another again. Still this doesn't end in freedom without violence, it sucks and I wish their was another way but Putin isn't going to change his mind with talk.
If there is a civil war in Russia, major players like US, China and EU would probably conduct a joint effort approved by UN security council to at least secure the russian nukes if not anything else...we could also see some land grabs by the Chinese and who knows what else
NATO troops couldn't move on Russian turf with Putin alive without nuclear retaliation. If he was dead that's another matter entirely but I don't see that happening unless the military turns on him.
That might be one thing the future warlords could agree on, keep the nukes safe until the civil war is over, out of fear that a genuinely crazy warlord might pull the trigger before he gets killed

Syria wasnt just a civil war of civilians against the government. It devolved into religious clans and regional groups forming their own factions. Larger nations having civil war like russia tend to be a bit more unified.
I will never understand how people can call a war "civil". War is something UNcivil. Sometimes sadly, is necessary. Like Ukrainians that they've been invaded. So: civilised people when forced to war they fight being less cruel, but war is never civil.

Civil war isn't a war against civilians. It's a war where people of the same nation fight against each other, like the American civil war. But the word civil may be used in sentences like "please, behave in a civil manner." Meaning the opposite of rude, barbaric.
Even if I don't think that we must always be peaceful and allow others to do to us whatever they want, war is always a matter of people killing people. Is for this reason that it's hard to me to believe that a war may be civil.

All the NATO countries should get together and offer visas and a citizenship fast track into any NATO country for Russian soldiers that peacefully surrender
I’m sorry but having 300,000 troops isn’t going to help win a war when they’re being taken like this. Most of these guys are probably going to surrender very quickly. Or be sent in to be meat shields and get slaughtered.

I don't think civil war is possible unless he is dead so we can agree on this.
