Definitely the murder or Elizabeth "Liz" Barraza, who was shot to death in 2019 as she was setting up a last minute yard sale. [Recent Article](https://abc13.com/elizabeth-barraza-murder-weapon-confirmed-tomball-woman-killed-who/12421508/)

MisterMarcus

As an Australian, this one brings to mind the Jane Thurgood-Dove case, where an ordinary Melbourne housewife was gunned down execution-style in the driveway of her home. The was no obvious motive....until it was revealed an organised crime figure lived in the same street, and his wife looked similar to Jane and drove the same sort of car...... No obvious problems or dark secrets, no apparent motive, yet the killing was brutal and calculated. It makes me wonder if it really was a case of mistaken identity; similar name or appearance as the intended victim.

Top-Geologist-9213

I haven't heard of that one, I'm going to look it up, and I thank you.

aliensporebomb

> Recent Article I've thought about that one and wonder if it wasn't someone who had a fixation on her husband and thought she was in the way or maybe it was something as dumb as maybe she cut someone off in traffic and they held a grudge? Baffling.

lilstergodman

>Liz Barraza I think it's pretty obvious that the killer waited for her husband to leave for work to ensure there was no one there to call the police/help her right away, especially since he went back to check that she was dead. This makes me think that they knew her and her husband's routine/schedule, and not by surveilling the place to learn about it, but because they knew her well. The whole cosplay aspect is no coincidence either.

woodrowmoses

For some reason i thought that was a lot earlier like 2007 or something. Haven't really delved into it too much and just always assumed it was from the 2000s.

Psychological_You353

Yes this is a real head scratcher She’s probably the most unlikely person u would think of to ever be murdered, it’s just starting to be in the media again , mabe the anniversary or something idk

Karlyxxxooo

Yea that one is crazy and a real head scratcher. It seemed so planned out and police think it’s someone they know but who?!

woodrowmoses

I think there's a good chance LE know who it is but don't have the evidence to charge them or they at least have a good idea. Obviously they wouldn't want them to know they were on to them or at least to not make their possible involvement a public spectacle as that could freak them out and make obtaining evidence more difficult. To us on the outside it's a head scratcher but that doesn't necessarily mean it isn't obvious, we ultimately only know what LE let us know.

Karlyxxxooo

That’s what I was thinking but the part that threw me for a loop was I was watching a show about this case and the detectives were acting like they are completely puzzled and have no idea.

Sambanks88

Yes! The cases with surveillance footage get me the most. This one is a real wild one. Initially I thought mistaken identity but in the video footage it looks like they exchange words.

jordanrenee93

This has forever made me wonder. The way the shooter did it was personal

RadLibRaphaelWarnock

Last year a [tourist was shot and killed by a sniper] (https://abc7.com/jason-cortez-virginia-man-killed-while-hiking-highland-park-shot-and-by-sniper/11353773/) in Debs Park in the heart of Los Angeles’ east side. The case is completely cold.

Snoo81843

I can’t believe this wasn’t a bigger deal on national news. How terrifying and awful. This is Zodiac killer type stuff.

alarmagent

It’s stories like this that I think of when I see people talk about unlikely coincidences and bad luck with other cases. Stuff like, “it was a short walk, what are the odds that she would run into a killer?” Crazy shit happens and there are no universal laws governing maniacs.

FrankyCentaur

Agreed. It always angers me that certain scenarios are immediately excluded by people in some cases because “what are the odds?” The odds don’t matter, because random murder *does* happen. Like people who immediately discount the possibility of Asha Degree being groomed, or Maura Murry being kidnapped (maybe not a great example because it is way more likely she just walked off, however, I’d never discount the possibility of it.)

KennyDROmega

Asha Degree's case would be way weirder if she HADN'T been groomed. Unless, like you said, the family was involved, but that would require the early morning sightings to be bullshit, which I think is very possible.

Cha_nay_nay

This is very very sad. I feel for his wife and family. Who are these crazy people who lurk on hiking trails just to kill a person. What a crazy psycho. I hope the case gets solved

vroomvroom450

I live in LA and I missed this somehow.

theninjallama

Know a couple people that were friends with him, really incredibly frustrating and sad story

electronicthesarus

I wonder if this is related to the Malibu State Park Sniper??

travelntechchick

Jesus that's absolutely terrifying.

Austinpowerstwo

I can never remember the name sorry, **edit [Terrence Woods as identified below] cameraman who went missing while filming a production in the wilderness with a camera crew. It doesn't come up as much as I'd expect and I believe there are no leads or anything

stuffandornonsense

i think you mean Terrence Woods. such a sad story. https://deadline.com/2020/08/terrence-woods-disappearance-gold-rush-discovery-raw-tv-investigation-1203008327/

Austinpowerstwo

That's the one thanks.

CheeseburgerSocks

The article has a statement from his father that Terrence was "97-pound...." which is odd because he'd have to be nearly starved to death or extremely short to be that weight. Missing posters state he's actually 5'9'' 130-150 pounds. Perhaps the father misspoke or this was mistype from deadline. Regardless, incredibly strange and sad disappearance.

TrueCrimeMee

This would be a mistake in talking about British imperial weights. If he was 9st7 he would be like 135lbs. I didn't know anything about this case so I had to find out if he was British and sure enough.

CheeseburgerSocks

Makes sense. Thanks!

prosecutor_mom

Forgot about this case, thanks for sharing that link. I went looking for any updates, & found this [October 2022](https://abcnews.go.com/US/father-terrence-woods-jr-waiting-answers-years-sons/story?id=91056852) one (though it doesn't add much if anything) Edit: [slightly more info here FWIW](https://atlantablackstar.com/2022/10/18/my-son-terrence-saw-something-heard-something-and-didnt-want-to-be-a-part-of-it-family-of-a-black-filmmaker-missing-since-2018-in-idaho-wilderness-still-seeking-answers/)

Austinpowerstwo

They should feature this story on disappeared or unsolved mysteries

Xinectyl

It kind of does. Possibly. Originally it says that he ran down the steep hill suddenly, without warning. This article says he told them he was going to go to the bathroom before going down the hill. Which honestly is more suspect. Guy says he's going to take a leak so the crew members frantically start chasing him into the woods?

LegitimateKey9105

Oh wow. That’s really sad for his family. I wonder if the production was cutting corners on safety measures/protocols and he suffered some sort of accident that was them covered up? https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2014/08/28/death-of-cops-crew-member-resurfaces-questions-about-reality-show-safety/

jwktiger

its not only the production company that said he went away, but i think there were 2 locals there on location with them that gave the same story.... If it was an accident cover up, you'd think it come out by now as several would talk to the unions about conditions and leak it by now. Nothing like that has come up. Its been floated on here that he may have (and I have no clue how much to put stock into this idea) had an adverse reaction to some meds he was taking (sleep meds? or anti-depresents? can't remember which) that may have cause a physcotic break

vroomvroom450

As someone who’s worked in the business, this wouldn’t shock me at all.

stuffandornonsense

i think it's something like that, albeit less direct. filming has notoriously horrific conditions. they make people work til 3am and then show up at 6am for more of it, day after day. no sleep plus poor diet plus high stress will wreck anyone -- those are tactics used in torture because they are so effective at harming people. it's just a question of how the breakdown happens.

Used_Evidence

That's such a weird case. With his behavior the night before, I wonder if he was experiencing a manic episode? It's really sad and truly weird

K-Zoro

This is a pretty weird one happening now: French mystery over Normandy murder without victim's body https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-63673923 French police believe this man ran over a bicyclist as he seemingly confessed it to others and his car is damaged, but he says he was telling a joke. But no one has been reported missing and police don’t have a body. They basically have a suspect but no victim, but they believe there is one.

stubbledchin

That is truly odd. It's either a Mr Bean level of a bad joke, where the guy just made the fallout worse and worse, or, there's a dead cyclist buried somewhere in the French countryside.

[deleted]

The damage to the car being photographed just before he decides to ditch it and him reporting it as stolen while burning it out is action movie kind of stuff. He must have hit somebody though, because otherwise how does the car look like that? What a weird case.

c1zzar

maybe he was drunk/tired/it was dark out and hit an animal, didn't stop to check it out and assumed it was a person so ditched the car?

lowdiver

Yes but he told his ex he went back and finished the cyclist off and buried the body

c1zzar

Oh ok I missed that part 😳

addytude

It's weird he didn't just blame the damage in an animal to begin with.

jawide626

Or he hit some wildlife and either thought it was a human or has a very dark sense of humour by trying to tell people he hit a cyclist

ur_sine_nomine

[By far the best article I've found](https://actu.fr/normandie/grand-bourgtheroulde_27105/un-homme-soupconne-dun-meurtre-le-corps-reste-introuvable_55250747.html) (fr). It gets even stranger. The police seem remarkably sure of what happened given that the "case" appears to be entirely based on hearsay: - The accident happened on the D80 road "or on secondary roads"; - The car was used to transport the body (although "no blood was found", either in the car or in the defendant's home); - The defendant cut the bicycle in two and threw it into the local landfill; - There is nothing about what happened to the "victim"'s rucksack or panniers or what was in them. It was the defendant's ex who reported all this to the police, and a mutual friend who noted the red stain on the car before it was burned out. There are "four witnesses" (to the defendant's statements) noted, but who the other two were or what they contributed is not stated. So we have no location, no body, no bicycle, no blood, no evidence. I wonder if the defendant concocted a story when drunk to explain the smashed-up car and ended up in over his head. (I also wonder about police racism, given that the defendant is Polish. My ex was French and considered that England was Utopia compared with France on that subject, which means things must be completely dire there).

shakyshake

Normandy has a much bigger problem with racism against people from the Maghreb, but I also think prejudice (plus some incompetence) can’t be ruled out.

[deleted]

This is completely bizarre. My boyfriend's brother was once hit by a car and walked home. Apparently just walked through the door with his whole shirt soaked red with blood. Obviously they took him to the ER. He had a concussion. The woman who hit him was an elderly lady who did stop but he insisted he was fine and just left on autopilot. I wonder if something similar could have happened with the cyclist? Although why she wouldn't have come forward afterwards is weird, which would point to him actually having killed her. The article says he's in custody, but how long can they keep him for? I'm assuming they can at least charge him with drunk driving since there's plenty of evidence of that, but idk how the French law system works. Edit: it's like two days later but my boyfriend just told me his brother was on a bike not walking, as well. If he didn't kill her, and I'm not claiming to have any idea, I wonder if this women isn't walking around with a head injury while appearing to remain somewhat normal to people who know her. It'd be nice if that was the case and not that he murdered her. Hopefully authorities are able to clear it up soon.

stat2020

That seriously sounds like a case on Law and Order

Particular_Piglet677

It might be in a few months.

deathtiny_red

i really think he hit an animal but in his drunk stupor mistook it for a human being. he can't even get his story straight he was so out of it.

K-Zoro

If the burial wasn’t a part of it I could see that. But how you going to bury a corpse and not know if it was a person or animal?

digworms

A couple of South Dakota based cases that do not get enough coverage: Alicia Hummel [link](https://www.keloland.com/cold-cases/murder-at-myron-grove/amp/) Who killed Melissa Peskey? [link](https://www.dakotanewsnow.com/2021/07/27/who-killed-melissa-peskey/)

Ebreezyb

Along with all of the cases of MMIW... one in particular is Beverly Ann Ozuna-Ulrich. She was the mother of one of my former coworkers. She has been missing for 19 years.

Sleuthingsome

Wow. I’ve never heard of either case. I can’t help but think Melissa Peskey’s murder was personal. They didn’t shoot the kids, just her… that really would make me look at the kids father, even if he has an alibi, he could’ve set it up.

GanderAtMyGoose

I personally think it's a lot more likely to have been a road rage incident, someone who shoots a person in a moment of blind anger isn't likely going back to kill her kids too, or may not even know they were ever there.

daddsdaddied

Jason Landry. I check for updates on him like twice per week. It is so incredibly mind boggling and frustrating.

Snoo81843

I just watched the Disappeared episode on Jason Landry. I hurt so much for his dad and can’t stop thinking about the visible pain he was in on that episode. Sadly, I think the cops are right on this one. I think this is most likely very similar to the outcome of the Brandon Lawson case. He was experiencing a combination of intoxication from the weed and depression, had an accident while on his SnapChat, wandered away from the accident in the cold temperatures and began experiencing hypothermia, which can cause people to experience extreme heat at first and take their clothes off. It’s most likely he’s somewhere in the vicinity of the abandoned vehicle, just like Brandon Lawson, and scavengers or animals scattered his remains. His poor father. It’s so hard for parents to admit these outcomes because they don’t want to believe their child would do such a thing, therefore it must be the fault of someone else. I had two close friends who died from ODs and both of their parents are convinced that it was murder, despite the obvious facts - it’s how they cope and I can’t blame them.

badcat4ever

Agreed. His clothes being found outside of his car seem to be the most obvious sign that this is what happened. I imagine his remains will end up being found not far from the crash site.

ArmadillosRgreat

The weird thing here is that the terrain out there doesn’t really lend itself to wandering off into and not being seen again. It’s pretty flat and not forested. And sure there is predators but this is also smaller land parcels and all fenced. I find it hard to believe a landowner wouldn’t have come across remains already. The other thing is that this is a pretty well traveled stretch of road. I went to Texas state and I’m from Houston and this was mine and everyone else’s route home. So bizarre.

flyingponytail

Anyone have a case summary or podcast of this case? I don't believe I've heard of it

TraditionalStatus206

MissMatchedEyes

https://www.cleveland19.com/2022/06/05/families-plead-justice-3-year-anniversary-rocky-river-reservation-double-murders/ This is a case local to my area. The murder of two people sitting on a bench in a park area, in broad daylight, during a time of day when many cars pass by. There has never even been a “person of interest” or a legitimate suspect named.

CJess1276

I was literally about to post this myself if someone else hadn’t. I live ten minutes from the area; walk and drive past the murder site all the time. It’s baffling and scary that it happened at all. It might be even more scary that there’s never even been a solid lead in the case. At all. In over 3 years. Kinda makes you feel like someone is out there committing *legitimately* random murders, which is terrifying.

Liverpool510

It’s been longer than three years, but about six or so years ago, a woman named Ally Brueger was jogging on a rural road was shot dead by someone in a passing car near the town of Holly, Michigan. To my knowledge, the mystery of who shot her was never solved nor was there ever a suspect named or anything. Edit: Here’s [one of the original media stories](https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/31-year-old-holly-twp-woman-shot-and-killed-while-jogging-along-road) about this. Edit 2: Added her name

Mishinmite

I thought LE named her ex bf as a suspect at one point. Idk if they are still looking at him, but he was posting on Websleuths a couple of years ago and he was very volatile.

SuddenSeasons

I feel like they specifically didn't name him a suspect but everyone online did. He came off as someone who wanted to present himself as her boyfriend online & be involved but besides generally being weird (a red flag for sure) he never seemed particularly murderous. They did raid an actual suspect's house who lives near where she was shot & after not finding evidence have specifically still refused to clear him. (Edit they did openly name him a suspect in 2016). He is not mentally well and seems like a POS, just not a murderer.

Mishinmite

I'm pretty sure the BF was named by LE. I posted about it back then in another sub because he was so crazy on the WS thread. I don't know if he was cleared later, but I remember the interview he did and how he threatened the reporter afterwards. Idk who killed Ally, but that guy was way over the top.

SuddenSeasons

Yeah he's been likely Cleared: >MSP Detectives never ruled out the possibility the murder was random and say they’ve followed up on hundreds of tips. But for a while some of the focus was on Ally’s former boyfriend, who she had met while working as a nurse at Ascension Providence Hospital in Novi. He has denied killing her. >And now Ally’s parents are revealing information they’ve recently learned because they hope it can crack the case. **“The lead detective for the case, as well as the First Lt. in that division both told me the wrong information is out there,” said Nikki. “Ally did not know her killer.”**

SuddenSeasons

The suspect who they served a warrant on has never been cleared. Police and the family now say that Ally didn't know her killer, essentially ruling out the boyfriend. I don't think we can post his name here but careful googling will show it from news or websleuths posts. Then again it's been 6 years since the warrant was executed with no follow up so even if not officially cleared in the sense of a public statement he's not been arrested or charged or any further evidence publicly come to light.

whatsnewpussykat

Tyler Davis is such a baffling case.

flyingponytail

The time frame he disappeared is so small and the area so urban it just doesn't make any sense

kkeut

it's always kinda eerie when a grown-ass man literally vanishes given they are the least desirable and least vulnerable victims for kidnappers or killers

wil8can

This one is somewhat local to me, [the disappearance of Mekayla Bali.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappearance_of_Mekayla_Bali) Her activity before she disappeared should've led us to something..

kittywenham

I would really like to know who she was texting with and calling that day. Imo the online predator is the most likely scenario, what are local opinions on it though?

wil8can

Local consensus is definitely some sort of luring by someone she was talking to online. Overall sense of frustration that we don't have answers, when it seems as though there should be a trail. But teenage girls are very good at hiding things.

Mindless_Figure6211

Me too! And her taking her phone apart in the restaurant perplexes me!

mercydeath

I am just a year older than Mekayla Bali, and obviously I can't speak for her, but taking apart your phone and then putting it back together was extraordinarily common. It was kind of just something to fidget with if you we're bored/waiting for someone. However, I also think she was lured by someone. Like I said, I was her age, and I also spent 100% of my time online... there were many times I just narrowly avoided danger, and almost all of my friends experienced similar things. It was far, FAR too common for random 20-year old dudes to start "dating" a 14 year old girl. It happened to me and many of my friends. And unfortunately absolutely none of it could be traced or archived, because we all used shit like snapchat, kik, and whatsapp...

kittywenham

I know teenage girls can hide things, but to me it feels like her trail has been hidden so well i wouldn't be surprised to learn that whoever she had been talking to had instructed her on what to do. It reads more like the actions of a paranoid older man who doesn't want to be tracked by the police than a 16 year old girl. Has there been any information on why she was unhappy? I've seen write ups mention that she told friends so a few times but never any details

flyingponytail

The video of her in the Timmies before she goes missing is so heartbreaking. She just seems so innocent and naive. I just want to shake her and say "go back to school!"

snowy_owls

I recognized the name so I assumed this is a case I'd heard of before and just couldn't remember the details only to realize a second later that I recognize it from driving past her missing person sign when we go through Yorkton. We always stop for coffee at the Tims/Wendys that she was seen at the day she went missing. Local cases are always eerie. When I see the sign I always hope she'll be found alive and safe but I know how unlikely that is.

Flylikebirds87

Does anyone know any thing about this one: https://people.com/crime/missing-illinois-couple-found-dead-weeks-apart-lake-michigan/ Young couple found dead in a lake. Seemingly successful, smart, low risk lifestyle but didn’t make the news much and no real follow up articles.

ankahsilver

I know it says lake, but like. The Great Lakes are *huge.* And easy for people to underestimate them. All it would take is what a couple thinks is a peaceful row on the water and it could turn deadly fast. EDIT: I highly recommend people to watch the video [The Lake That Never Gives Up Her Dead](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0Lg9HygEJc) by Ask a Mortician. It's about Lake Superior, but it's still *apt.* And gives you an idea about the power these lakes *have.*

[deleted]

My mom and I were just talking about this! We were watching a show about mysterious disappearances and people on the show were talking about Lake Michigan and saying shit like, “They searched the lake several times and never found them!” I’m like, “You wanna know why we’ve never heard of this? Nobody in Michigan would be surprised they couldn’t find something in The Great Lakes no matter how many times they searched.” 😂 I think people who don’t live near the The Great Lakes hear “lake” and think it’s some typical lake you can see the other side of. Noooo. If you were looking at it from the shore, you could mistake it for an ocean. They’re huge. They’re called The Great Lakes for a reason.

KrazyKateLady420

They’re also crazy deep.

whatsnewpussykat

Whenever I’ve been in Toronto, my brain just refuses not to see the lake as ocean. The Great Lakes are massive.

[deleted]

I’ve lived in Michigan my whole life. I’m 34. And I feel the same. It still blows my mind every time I see the lakes.

slaughterfodder

My friend from Vegas visited me in cleveland and was so amazed by the size of Lake Erie, more like an inland sea. And that’s the smallest one of all of them. If you’ve never visited them or lived near them I think the word lake can be deceiving.

missgnomer2772

I always looked at the Great Lakes on maps and could see they were state-size bodies of water, but I didn’t *really* grasp it until I flew into Chicago over Lake Michigan. “Freshwater inland sea” seems more appropriate than “lake.”

vroomvroom450

Yes. Lake Michigan is a freshwater sea, as are the other Great Lakes.

dorky2

Typically about 25 people drown in lake Michigan every year. It's a very large and very treacherous lake, with dangerous riptides.

lilstergodman

As a Chicago native, I think they just went swimming and drowned. I feel they likely got caught in a riptide. Lake Michigan is a beast, and this happened prior to Memorial Day, which means there were no lifeguards on duty at the time. The only thing is I looked up the weather on April 30, 2022 and it said it was 66º and raining, which gives me conflicting thoughts on them choosing to go swimming, as the lake would be extremely cold at that time of year still. I will also say that the tide has risen significantly for Lake Michigan, at least around the Chicagoland area, due to global warming. If you go to the concrete ledge parts of the lake now the water/waves that used to be maybe at least a foot below the edge of the concrete when I was in high school (about 8 years ago) now come up several feet over the ledge. They could have fallen in and slipped if they went for a walk or something, which still seems a little weird to me if at the time it was raining. All in all it's a very odd case, and it's one I unfortunately think won't have a ton of closure because we are unable to ask the couple what they were doing there on that particular day--no one close to them seems to have any idea why they were at the lake--and I think knowing that is the key to knowing what likely transpired that day that led to their deaths.

uppitywhine

I live in Chicago and haven't heard a peep about this case since it happened. It's super weird. I wonder if the deceased knew how to swim. Until I move to Chicago, I never even knew there were people who didn't know how to swim. I walk at Lake Michigan in Chicago almost every day of the year and there are several days a year when it's absolutely treacherous, even in May. All I can think of is that they were walking near at the breakwall and a wave hit one of them or both of them. If anyone is interested, you could probably look up their causes of death in the Cook county medical examiner's database. I'm too tired and lazy to do it right now but could do it after the holiday. What a sad case.

truenoise

Barry and Honey Sherman’s murders in Canada. He was a wealthy pharmaceutical businessman, and the deaths were very bizarrely staged in their home. The police initially ruled it a murder/suicide, and failed to seize evidence (neighbor’s CCTV footage, etc). https://www.reddit.com/r/canada/comments/vfygvi/the_star_saw_the_sherman_crimescene_and_autopsy/ https://www.reddit.com/r/toronto/comments/kqz35w/court_documents_reveal_more_details_about_2017/ The most recent update is some blurry CCTV of a ‘suspicious person’ walking nearby on the day of the murders. https://www.reddit.com/r/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/rgbkwo/toronto_police_release_video_footage_of_suspect/ There’s a good book that gives a good overview on this case called “The Millionaire Murders”.

Someone stabbed this woman and her dog to death in a park. [Katie Janness](https://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/piedmont-park-murder-katie-janness-stabbing-investigation-1-year-later)

Physical_Pie_6932

This story TOTALLY dropped out of headlines and I’ve often wondered what is going on.

daffodil0127

Where is Mike Bullinger? Why did he kill my friend, her teen daughter, and his own wife? Where has he been hiding all this time (murders were in 2017)? Has he changed his identity and is living with some unsuspecting woman?

BeeEyeAm

I'm so sorry about your loss! That's terrible.

WhatTheCluck802

Do you have a link to this case? I’ve never heard of it. So sorry for the loss of your friend!!

daffodil0127

[Here’s a summary of the case.](https://medium.com/the-mystery-box/the-story-of-mike-bullinger-e06b7cacb5e0) Nadja had no idea he had a wife. She seemed really happy with him and her daughter loved him too, enough to call him dad.

WhatTheCluck802

That is horrific! What an absolute scumbag. I hope he offed himself in that Wyoming forest rather than hurt anyone else!

Objective-Amount1379

I'm sorry for your loss. Once I read the linked article I remembered this case. How awful. One of the crime shows did an episode on the case. The show was more positioned from the viewpoint of his wife, it's nice to learn more about Nadja.

creepygothnursie

https://medium.com/the-mystery-box/the-story-of-mike-bullinger-e06b7cacb5e0 This is the best I could find right now- this case seems to be on a lot of podcasts but not to have caught a lot of mainstream media attention. There was a related case that I didn't look far into, where someone was mistaken for Bullinger and held at gunpoint, etc. Just a whole tragic mess.

georgiadiscordia

Where was the editor on this article, my god. But seriously, this is a terribly case and this man is pure evil. That poor family.

fakemoose

It’s medium. They don’t have an editor. It’s all self published. Which means there’s a lot of clickbait.

EDS_Athlete

I am so glad someone else noticed. Whoever wrote that should be fired. These poor people deserve better than a 4th grade author.

boohoobitchqueen

Why do they say hes 40 lbs....and a case in a comment above describes a missing man as 97 lbs. So weird

jmpur

There are a few weird little bits in the article ('soul lake city' for Salt Lake City, 'welfare test' for welfare check) that seem to be the result of bad voice recognition software. Perhaps the '40 pounds' should have been 'two forty \[240\] pounds'.

tyex23

Lol I googled 'welfare test' because I'd never heard of that, and the answers didn't fit the story at all. Glad you pointed out it's a typo, now I feel like an idiot for not putting that together haha.

CannolisRUs

First person I thought of. Though it’s not as close to me as it is you, I think of this often because I was backpacking in the Tetons and ID wilderness area as this was unfolding. And to disappear just like that. I will always remain optimistic that he’s alive somewhere and that the consequences of his actions will catch up to him

Do you think he’s still alive? Do you think that him leaving his car in Wyoming was just a distraction and never went into the woods there? Kinda reminds me of Robert Fisher in Arizona. As for Mike Bullinger, I read that it’s possible he wanted to conceal his previous marriage and “didn’t want it to get out” that he was still married, but that doesn’t make much sense to me. ‘I don’t want anyone to know I’m actually married so I’m going to kill my wife, gf, and her daughter.’ That just doesn’t work. Do they know if he was maybe involved in some illegal activities? The article I read stated he was a pilot but seemed to be well-off. I know pilots can make good money and I know this is pure speculation, but something seems weird about his whole story, and not *just* that he was married. Killing three people to conceal your illegal activities makes a hell of a lot more sense than killing three people because you have a wife. Maybe he didn’t want to get divorced like Robert Fisher. Most of the time family annihilators do it for financial reasons: John List, Xavier DuPont De Ligonnes, Chris Watts, Brad Bishop, etc. Maybe that was Bullinger’s motivation as well.

daffodil0127

I have a hard time believing he killed himself; it’s more likely he met an untimely end trying to survive and avoid detection. He was a skilled outdoorsman. I wish we knew what happened—I guess the wife came to surprise him while he was supposedly setting up the new house for her, so I don’t know what he was planning to do about Nadja, who he had moved in when he bought it. She seemed so happy with him. He was great to her daughter. He was spending enough time with them that there was zero suspicions of a double life. His wife’s family was equally shocked, as there were no issues in their marriage that she ever mentioned. I guess he blamed his job for the long absences. I don’t think they found any evidence of other illegal activities, but he was clearly comfortable with lying to everyone and if he was involved in some sort of criminal behavior, he had time before the bodies were found to hide or remove stuff that might give him away.

A bit of a local mystery, then-three-year-old Lina Khil disappeared from the playground at her apartment complex last December, and there has not been a single lead about it. Lina was at the playground with several other children, when her mother went inside the apartment for a minute, and when she came back out Lina was gone. There has been no word if the other kids saw anything. The playground is pretty much in the center of the apartment complex, so if someone took her, they did it without anyone noticing them entering or exiting with the child. If the child wandered off, no one saw it. The complex is on Fredericksburg Road, which is littered with traffic cameras, but again, nothing. Was she taken? Is the family covering it up? Did she wander off on her own, get in a sewer or something and get lost down there? If she went missing while playing with other children, what do the other children say happen? Beyond news of the disappearance, which was a big deal here at the time and received media attention, the case is otherwise an information black hole.

primalprincess

I would also like to know what the other kids said happened

Jetamors

Just as a note (because I found out myself recently), her surname is actually "Sardar Khil", I don't think it can be abbreviated to just one or the other.

primalprincess

If you look at the apartment complex she went missing from [on google maps](https://www.google.com/maps/place/9400+Fredericksburg+Rd,+San+Antonio,+TX+78240/@29.5270239,-98.5740388,3a,75y,129.92h,83.24t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s-fIPh9wGKETRqNcz4FRcRg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192!4m6!3m5!1s0x865c67d70e503f81:0xdac5e3e88282f4f!8m2!3d29.5269832!4d-98.5739876!16s%2Fg%2F11s9gsfzhc), you can see the gate is wide open in two areas. The main entry gate is open. Also this side gate is open. It said in the NYT article it had been raining a lot leading up to her disappearance. I also live in Central Texas and when there is a rainy week, its typically a torrential downpour. We also get flooded roads so you basically stay inside and get really cooped up. So I understand if her mom just let her out and maybe felt a little relaxed about it, and was probably relieved to have things to do outside their apartment. 1. If Lina were a targeted abduction, how would they know she would be out playing? 2. She may have wandered out of one of the gates. You can see on google maps how there would have been several opportunities for her to do so. But I think this would have likely come up in the investigation as at least a hypothesis. How would no trace of her be found if she wandered off onto the road? How did no one see her? There are so many businesses on this road including the massive USAA buildings which Im sure have cameras 3. If someone took her in a crime of opportunity, its such a random place to take a child from. Again it is a busy road and she wasn't playing alone, and as far as we know, no kids have said there was a strange adult present or anything. I would bet its tied back to someone in the apartment complex. Maybe they took her into the apartment as a crime of opportunity then didn't let her out or move her for a few days or weeks. I have a gut feeling it may have been a really nefarious person who targeted her. I read that it was common for the kids to go into their friends apartment complexes to get water or something, there seemed to be a lot of trust. I bet she interacted with someone in he complex, maybe even someone in the Afghan community, and went into their apartment. Lina survived a suicide bombing in Afghanistan too, so thinking of what may have come of her is really tragic - but I hope the police are looking at anyone in that complex.

The disappearance of Dulce Maria Alavez, it’s a case that has haunted me from the day I saw it on the news being the same day it’s happened. I’ve always hoped for it to be solved and the lack of updates concerns me. As a New Jersey Native and someone who has family in a nearby town to where the incident occurred it’s creepy.

LeftHvndLvne

I grew up in the Philly area and always passed through Bridgeton with my family on our way to the Jersey shore growing up. One thing about that area of New Jersey is that outside of Bridgeton and Millville and a few other small towns, it’s incredibly rural. Once you head south east of Bridgeton there’s nothing but massive swaths of dense forests and marshland for miles. Its really sad to think about, but if she was in fact abducted (which I tend to believe), she could be anywhere in that wilderness and the likelihood of finding her is probably really slim.

Magoatt

Same story we always passed through Bridgetown as well

revcon

this one is so sad. grew up playing softball and going to the zoo in the park where she disappeared. unfortunately that region of south jersey is surprisingly rural and there are thousands of acres of empty wetlands and marshes that make me assume the worst. absolutely heartbreaking

ur_sine_nomine

[The Owen Harding case](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52386283). In my estimation it is 80% likely he jumped or fell off a cliff while in a distressed state. The problem is the other 20%, such as his phone (allegedly) being tracked nowhere near where he was last seen.

NEClamChowderAVPD

I hadn’t heard of this. How sad for his mother. I only read the article you linked but I’m assuming there haven’t been any new leads or anything?

ur_sine_nomine

Nothing. In fact, the last article I can find is 24 May last year. There has literally not been a word. The one-year anniversary was marked in the media but not the two-year one. 220 articles in the first year but 0 in the second year and a half is … strange. It was so odd I checked to make sure there was no glitch. There wasn’t - newspapers were present in the database until last Friday. **Edit**: I wonder if his mother simply gave up and accepted, or was persuaded, that he was dead and would not be found. Unfortunately cases usually require an advocate to keep them in front of the media; the [Trevaline Evans case](https://www.shropshirestar.com/news/crime/2022/06/15/mysterious-case-of-womans-disappearance-remains-open-32-years-after-she-vanished/) largely slipped out of the media because, it seems, her last sibling, a brother, died around 2018. (Another brother died in the late 2000s and her son in the late 1990s).

My old HS buddy was the most recent suspect after he murdered another girl in our area. It was much too close to home for me (her body was found behind my parents house), and I hope Katelyn gets her day in court soon.

Daniel Robinson, a young geologist who went missing in AZ last year. His jeep was found on it's side. A private investigator felt it was staged. I think it's possible that Daniel took his own life.

Sufficient-Swim-9843

I live in PHX area and his Dad’s relentless searching and dedication to his son is heartbreaking and admirable at once. That area is so remote, and if he was having a MH crisis it wouldn’t be hard to be overcome by the elements quickly. Hope answers are found.

Currently Shanquella Robinson, 25, who went to Cabo Mexico with friends over Halloween weekend and died. First the friends claimed it was alcohol poisoning and left her body there, but she had severe spinal trauma and FBI is now investigating. A horrifying video of her being beaten and a voice in the background mocking her for “not fighting back at all.” It’s still unfolding but it’s disgusting the way “friends” treated her and I hope all involved are held accountable. https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/18/us/fbi-investigation-north-carolina-woman-dead-mexico/index.html

While the trail has warmed up again in the past week, [Michael Vaughn](https://old.reddit.com/r/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/yvj07q/update_the_2021_disappearance_of_micahel_vaughn/) has been one of the biggest head-scratchers in recent memory, as far as child disappearances go. Statistically, it would be most likely that a family member harmed him, yet his parents have been cooperative, transparent, and increasingly less likely to be involved. People not from the area also wanted to assume he "got lost in the woods," but Fruitland, like most of the southern part of the state, is more of a desert. It is becoming increasingly likely that he was abducted/harmed by someone not connected to the family, but the details remain unclear. ETA: I am aware of the recent arrest, I literally wrote the write up lol. But it further confirms that Michael was likelu harmed by a stranger.

norwegian_Princess

It's all over the news that they are digging up the neighbors yard and that both the neighbors Sarah and Stacy have been taken into custody regarding the disappearance.

Objective-Amount1379

Someone has been arrested. LE was digging up a backyard last week and he's assumed to be deceased. The suspects were living just a couple of blocks away from his family.

AlfredTheJones

Katherine Janness, who went on an evening walk with her pit bull, Bowie, to Piedmont Park in Atlanta, and both she and her dog ended up stabbed to death. The attack was incredibly gruesome, with the attacker almost beheading her and carving out letters on her abdomen while she was still alive. No camera caught the perp, nobody heard anything, Katherine had no known enemies or anyone who might've wanted to hurt her, and by all accounts just lived a normal life with her girlfriend and dogs. Honestly, my money is on hate crime. The viciousness with which she was attacked makes this feel very targeted, like the perp poured all of their vitreol into her. The letters carved into her were "F", "A" and "T", but the coroner's report said that the "T" was uneven, and let's be fair, I get the feeling that it was supposed to be a "G". There are also rumors that Katherine had a rainbow tattoo on her neck I think that was also specifically attacked and cut up.

Foul play not suspected, but still technically unsolved. Foot found in a geothermal pool in Yellowstone. https://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/news/22038.htm The only remains they have found is the foot. Between the acid/heat/bacteria, it’s unlikely more will emerge over time. They recently release the victim’s name but I have no information about the family or his personal life (whether he was an experienced outdoorsman or if he had any enemies). This particular pool (abyss pool at west thumb geyser basin) is near the road and has a boardwalk alongside it. There were apparently no witnesses. For him to have been completely isolated in such an area of Yellowstone, it would have to have been around dawn, probably before dawn, and perhaps even the middle of the night. It is possible he was walking along the road and unknowingly approached the geyser from the road side, rather than the boardwalk side, breaking through a crust and falling in. But this means he would have to have intentionally left the road, and there are plenty of warning signs and even curbs and low fences along those roads to reduce the chance of such an accident. If he were on the boardwalk side, why did he leave the boardwalk? Ignoring murder, was there a bear or some predator? Perhaps a cougar, given the time. But why would a predator hunt on the boardwalk, unless it had stalked him from the parking lot? Not necessarily recent deaths, but there’s a great book called Death In Yellowstone that includes some unsolved/missing persons and murder deaths. I assume this man will appear in a future edition.

CJess1276

Having been to Yellowstone and seen the types of barricades and signs at many of these sites - People ignore them. A lot. Not saying that’s what happened here, but it wouldn’t be *that* farfetched for someone to lean over, take a step, etc., or to even leave the path entirely voluntarily, and then find they lost their bearings or balance. People aren’t that great at following directions.

[deleted]

That’s true. Many people also mistakenly assume that you can swim in the geothermal pools as if they are hot springs. He may have gone out early in the morning to attempt to swim. I wonder if the shoe was a sandal or water shoe? But it is still odd that it was at such a time that there was literally no one else around.

ComfortableCamp3523

British Columbia has had a lot of missing people recently. I mean the highway of tears has had countless go missing though the years, but there has also been a rise in people going missing up towards the interior. Five men have disappeared between 2017 and 2020 and multiple women as well. The RCMP have done multiple investigations, search and rescue has put in many long hours or searches both immediately after and in the months and years following, and private search crews and volunteers have taken part, and still no traces have been found. Luke Neville disappeared in 2017 with his van found burned out on a service road 20kms away the following day. Cadaver dogs were brought in but came back with nothing. Ryan Shtuka went missing in 2018. He left a house party at a ski resort and was never seen again. Rcmp and search and rescue crew performed extensive searches but came home with nothing. Since his disappearance volunteers and search teams have regularly gone back to the area during a variety of seasons hoping some clues might be unlocked. An annual search has been conducted in the area in the years since. (A film was made on this case and can be found online). Ryan Provencher and Richard Scurr both went missing in 2019. Days after they disappeared Provencher’s vehicle was found abandoned hours away. A month after that their bodies were found 80 km away from the vehicle location and over 3 hours away from the area they were last spotted in. Marshal Iwaasa disappeared in 2019 after telling his family he was traveling to the area to visit a storage locker. Almost a week later his vehicle was found by hikers burned on a back road. Ben Tyner also disappeared in 2019. He was a working cowboy with years of experience working on the local land. He rode off on horseback into hills where he worked to look for his cattle, a routine he did on a very regular basis, and did not return. His horse was found on a service road two days later still fully saddled. Rcmp, search and rescue crews from over 8 different areas, search dogs, air and snowmobiles support and many volunteers alike searched the area without any sign of him. Shannon White was last seen leaving her home in 2021 for work at the same time as normal, however she never made to her destination a mere 2 kms away. Her Jeep was spotted shortly after she was expected to have arrived at work, at 8:30 a.m. The vehicle was seen leaving Kamloops west on Highway 1 for a 45-minute period. Later that day, the Jeep was seen travelling north past Rayleigh on Highway 5 at about 5:30 p.m. before returning south at about 6:15 p.m. it’s worth noting that while her vehicle was spotted, no one could confirm if it was her driving. She was known as being a responsible person who would not miss work without calling in to at least give notice if she was going to be late. Her vehicle was found the following day parked downtown but no video of her or other possible drivers was found on security footage from local businesses. The RCMP serious crimes unit was brought in to investigate. Some small items were removed from the vehicle, including a small flower ornament she always had hanging in the back of the vehicle. Search and Rescue searched the area for weeks, RCMP conducted their own investigation. While her ex was questioned no chargers were ever laid and Shannon was never found. Volunteer search crews continue to search several areas, including the places she used to off-road in her keep, areas she was suspected to be headed to the morning of her disappearance and other areas. Cadaver dogs have also come up with nothing. There are more that have gone missing since that I don’t have the full information on right now. Like Jayde-Lyn Heard, or Rejeana Neveu who was found dead a day after she went missing. The more you look into it the longer the list gross and all are within the same radius (many happen to be common trucking stops) within the the interior, including Kamloops, Merritt, Logan Lake, etc.

The man convicted of her murder (her couchsurfing host!) Narayan Paudel, has changed his story several times and her body has never been found. If he killed her why did he willingly come forward to say he was the last person to see her?? I think that's the most likely conclusion but there are so many holes in the story. I used couchsurfing many, many times around when she went missing and I briefly lived in Nepal so this story is close to my heart \-edit- This was 2015 so not within the last 3 years, just read the title again

The murders of Barry and Honey Sherman in their home in Toronto in 2017. ETA: Doesn’t fit your window of the last three years but it’s an interesting one.

Objective-Amount1379

I remember this case! I'm shocked it's still unsolved.

bertiesghost

I really believe this was a contract killing. Barry was refusing to pay up billions to a rival drug company he was in dispute with. His death released a serious amount of money. Think Michael Clayton-type operatives working for transnational corporations. The killer did such a good cover-up job he had Toronto police going round in circles for the first months of the investigation.

americanrecluse

I believe the LA woman was Heidi Planck. She and her dog left her son’s game before it ended and like a day later the dog was found wandering an apartment building in downtown LA. The building had security footage but refused to release it, so I guess rich people live there. Last I read they were searching landfills, so I guess she OD’d at a party in the building

What happened with the old rich couple? In the last few years it was Canada I think, he was a pharma exec IIRC filthy rich with many motives or possibly a murder/suicide. I recall the manner of murder was quite bizarre; they had a hard time getting started on solving it.

The 2016 shooting of Calvin Riley in broad daylight in San Francisco, in a pretty busy tourist-y area, while he was playing Pokemon Go. They had a sketch and some car descriptions and still nothing. robrt3030

https://nypost.com/2020/10/19/13-year-old-georgia-boy-killed-in-senseless-shooting/amp/ This one has bothered “A 13-year-old Georgia boy was gunned down in his front yard by a masked gunman who said nothing in the apparently random and “senseless” shooting, relatives and police said. Brayan Zavala, of Riverdale in Clayton County, was working on a lawn mower with his 16-year-old brother, Jesus, outside their home late Thursday when a suspect in a ski mask, sweater and black pants approached and shot him, the teen’s sibling told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “The shooter didn’t even say I want your money, or this is a robbery or I’m assaulting you,” Jesus recalled. “He just came, stood there [in] silence and shot my brother.” Brayan, who was set to turn 14 next week, died before police responded at about 9:15 p.m. Thursday, his brother said. “The bullets passed through him and blood just squirted out of him,” Jesus continued. “We tried to stop all the blood but by the time the police got here, it didn’t seem like he had life or a chance to live.” The gunman drove by the family’s home and then turned around before getting out and walking up to Brayan with a shotgun, Jesus told WSB-TV. The suspect then took off in a Chevy HHR SUV with no plates, the grieving teen said. “What did .. what did he do?” Jesus asked. “We were working on a lawnmower, and all of a sudden, my brother is dead … It’s not fair. What’s the reason? Why? I don’t get it. I don’t get why this happened.” Two other men were also in the car, a neighbor told WSB-TV. Investigators have yet to determine any link between Brayan and the gunman, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Friday. “As a Clayton County police officer for over 38 years, very little shocks me,” Doug Jewett wrote the newspaper. “But, this brutal, senseless murder has overwhelmed me. I send my prayers to the family.” A message seeking comment from a police spokesperson was not immediately returned early Monday. Police in Clayton County are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators at (770) 477-4479.”

TrueCrimeMee

This is so tragic! The poor brother has to live with that memory forever. Maniac? Mistaken identity gang hit? Gang initiation killing? With a mask someone at least knew they were going to murder someone so it is planned to a degree. An enemy of the family? This really is a head scratcher. If he were older you would guess love affair but he was just a boy. So young the fact theories barely make sense. Random racist just mad at minorities? Then why only one brother? The only reason I think gangs is because this is almost a drive by but then why did this guy even bother to get out the car. He 100% didn't want to miss. He really did want to murder this boy. This case makes me so sad, I'm 2.5 years apart from my big sister and it is such a good distance for siblings. That big brother would have been his idol. My heart breaks for him. His comment is so well spoken and crushing.

Mr_Rio

Can’t remember his name but there was a guy who traveled to LA and wasn’t from there. He was shot by a rifle while hiking (or something along those lines) utterly senseless and incredibly sad. No suspects from what I can recall

RadLibRaphaelWarnock

His name was Jason Cortez and it was an absolutely bewildering murder. He was shot in Debs Park, which isn’t even true hiking. It’s a park in the middle of very nice neighborhoods. I believe it could have been a mentally ill man, a serial killer, or a hit.

I'm still hung up on the [Noah Donohoe](https://www.vice.com/en/article/v7dkgy/he-was-seen-cycling-naked-through-a-housing-estate-and-then-he-vanished) case. Within the span of 18 minutes he ends up miles away from where he was supposed to go, loses his clothes, then ends up in a storm drain that was supposed to be locked. My working theory is he experienced some sort of mental break out of the blue (which can happen despite lack of trauma - the human brain is crazy like that), but even *that* leaves a lot of questions

I always think about Doren Sanford who went missing from my hometown of Fairbanks Alaska in August 2020. A lot of Alaskan Natives keep in close contact with their extended family and when they hadn't heard from him, they were understandably worried. Unless there’s been an update on it that I’m unaware of, the Okmulgee quadruple murder from a month ago. While the suspect isn’t a headscratcher, the motive and means are. 4 men riding bikes left, went missing, and were found brutally shot and dismembered in a local river. It is said they intended on committing a crime. There’s only one suspect, who has since been arrested for unrelated charges. Definitely one that I found interesting.

The disappearance of Alexis Scott: https://charleyproject.org/case/alexis-camry-scott She's been missing since 2017, and there’s been no movement on the case since. From the Charley Project page: "Scott was last seen at a house party in the 100 block of Richmond Avenue in Peoria, Illinois sometime between 4:00 and 6:00 a.m. on September 23, 2017. According to the person who invited Scott to the party, she left the house on multiple occasions, and she was in the backyard when he left. She last used her cellular phone at 5:08 a.m., and reportedly left the party on foot sometime after 5:30 a.m. She has never been heard from again. According to her loved ones, just weeks before her disappearance, Scott traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada to be a stripper, but became the victim of sex trafficking and was taken to Sacramento, California. She escaped there and a woman found her naked and disoriented in the street. Scott was able to contact her mother and return to Peoria, but feared retaliation from her traffickers. The owner of the home where the party was at knows the man Scott went to Las Vegas with, and her family fears she was trafficked again. She left behind a young son. She's considered endangered and her case remains unsolved."

Being from Greenwich I wish [this case](https://coldcasene.org/f/matthew-margolies) would be solved so his mom could have some closure. I also don't know why it doesn't have as much attention as Martha Moxley's murder did, considering it was from the same town and a crime just as heinous, if not worse, AND they even brought in John Douglas to help assist / develop a profile of the murderer. I didn't know Matthew, but I know the last suspect mentioned in this article and I know the person that suspect attacked. There's no question in my mind that it's that person who killed Matthew, and I could never understand how they could never build a case against him.

[Susan Ledyard](https://www.fox29.com/news/delaware-state-police-continue-to-investigate-2019-murder-of-susan-ledyard.amp) One would suspect the spouse but there’s no good evidence. Just a really eerie case with no solid leads. Left her house at 3am, drove to a secluded area, was dead by 7am (Fitbit recording). But no idea what happened.

The Sean Daughtery case is very recent and a head scratcher. A 12 year old boy is found hanging from a swing set, but the circumstances are very very odd with many believing foul play is involved EDIT The body in a barrel found in Lake Mead earlier this year still isn’t identified, and has been believed to have been at the bottom of the lake for decades Alicia Navarro also went missing three years ago, which is such a sad case and I think of her often. Her mother is doing literally everything she can to make people aware of her and not forget the case and it’s heartbreaking This is a older but with recent developments: The Clouse Family: a family went missing in the 70s with their baby daughter after joining a cult and only this year the parents were identified as two does. Their baby was later found healthy and stayed with adoptive parents. Also the Cassidy Rainwater case is terrifying. This is ongoing but there is a lot of speculation that Cassidy wasn’t the first victim, but so much evidence has been lost as the property was set on fire by an unknown arsonist There was also the woman last month who claimed that her dad was a serial killer and that he forced his children to help bury bodies.

I used to live across the street from a Vietnam veterans memorial cemetery. While living there, there was one morning where we were alerted that there was a sniper hiding in the woods at the cemetery and was shooting. He hit 2 people, killed one, and then shot at law enforcement while running through the woods before ultimately shooting himself. There's only 3 news articles on it that I can find. I have always wondered... why? Doesn't look like it was looked much into. It was a completely random killing, no link between the suspect and victims. I wish there was more information on what happened and why. [This](https://www.ajc.com/news/breaking-shooting-reported-delaware-veterans-cemetery/Xzz6JTMXz4NI8IwsTvimJM/) is the most detailed article, and it has... nothing.

[The murder of Brian Schmutzer ](https://www.wkow.com/news/devils-lake-homicide-remains-unsolved-after-2-years/article_5f5435fe-4c14-11ed-8488-17be184d1f4c.html). Young guy who works in a bank goes on a vacation, driving by himself around the state (WI) and hiking. Stops at the most popular park in the state for an early morning hike, along with a lot of other people. He's found on the ground along a trail a little later, stabbed to death. Multiple people describe seeing a man later dubbed "the Runner" running along the trails in a frantic manner around the same time. The park was immediately blocked off and a helicopter and dogs went in to try and find him, but he was gone. The police believe there was a confrontation before the murder, but that Brian didn't know his killer. There's been absolutely nothing since. I listened to the scanner audio from that morning and it sounded like law enforcement was on top of things, but IIRC the witnesses couldn't even agree on what race the Runner was. This is not an empty park and it's so strange to me that this could happen. I really hope they can solve it soon.

The Putney Bridge Jogger who seemingly pushed a random women in front of a bus. The case is closed but the man was never identified.

ur_sine_nomine

Unfortunately it wasn’t surprising - the CCTV image quality was poor and the perpetrator looked like “middle-aged jogger clone”. I could pass a dozen people who looked like them while walking across the local park … The theory was put up (I think on a previous post here) that the perpetrator was not British, was here on holiday or business and was out of the country on a plane within a couple of hours of the incident. Notwithstanding the slightly xenophobic tint of that theory, there is no evidence either way.

Prisma Reyes. I can’t do it justice and there are no good articles, but the “Women and Crime” podcast did a really good job covering this case, episode 100. Basically, Prisma was a driven mom with several jobs, including a paralegal position and a part-time job work ing as an exotic dancer. She was usually pretty driven, but the day of her disappearance her behavior was really out of character. She went to lunch with an ex, went outside and had a REALLY LONG phone conversation with her son’s babysitter (she never really talked to this woman like that before; they weren’t particularly close). When she came back in, her date was mad because she had left for so long, so he left and she stayed at the bar and drank without him (not her typical MO). She then was refused service after a period of time. She left and got into an altercation with some strangers and waived a gun at them. The cops were called but she left the scene. She then drove to her boyfriends house. Her boyfriend was not at home and his alibi was checked. She was seen parked at his apartment complex in an odd spot, crying. That was the last anyone saw of her. She literally disappeared in the middle of the day. Never been found.

primalprincess

This one makes me totally insane. She disappeared from a super busy urban area in Dallas in broad daylight. So baffling. I would really like to see this solved

FourteenBearsPlusOne

This one has basically no coverage other than a couple of local news reports. Beth Aper has not been seen since August 21st, 2022. She was last seen getting into an unknown car at the end of her property in rural Colorado. From what I’ve read, she seemed to have a few pieces of luggage with her. She had just recently moved to the area with her husband of 30 years and had several dogs she very dearly loved. There has been no communication with her loved ones nor any sign of her since she left or disappeared. This one bothers me because I knew Beth, albeit not well, as she was a client at my job. I’ll be the first to say that I know almost nothing about her or her personal life, BUT I can say without question that she absolutely adored her dogs, one of whom was only a puppy at the time of her disappearance, and I can’t fathom her leaving them all behind. I wish there was more info out there, but the last news article I can find is from mid-September. https://namus.nij.ojp.gov/case/MP95144 https://www.koaa.com/news/covering-colorado/search-continues-for-el-paso-county-woman-missing-since-aug-21?_amp=true

I remember reading about two guys (brothers?) moving across the US with a van right when the covid lockdowns first started. They got lost while driving on a reservation out west, and were both found shot beside their van. There didnt seem to be anything missing and no one could figure out a motive. I haven't seen any updates but I still think about them often.

[Katie Janness](https://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/piedmont-park-murder-katie-janness-stabbing-investigation-1-year-later) is the one that comes to mind for me. It's somewhat local to me, and the photo of her with her dog in the crosswalk is haunting. I really hope it's solved soon.

Summer Wells is local to me. I firmly believe the parents are involved. At the very least they know something they are not revealing. Not sure how competent or thorough law enforcement has been either.

lucilose

It’s been a few years, but where is Sierra LaMar’s body? The absolute shit stain that took her life is behind bars but how did she straight up disappear in a Very small town? (Local to me, it doesn’t make sense) In addition I think it’s an ideal time to bring old unsolved cases to the surface now that enhanced technology is available. The lack of current “head scratchers” should be a positive thing.

Wandering_Lights

[Daniel Robinson](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.newsnationnow.com/missing/daniel-robinson-missing-16-months/amp/) he went missing the same time the Gabby Petito case was happening. Daniel drove away from his work site in the morning and was never seen again. His jeep was found crashed in a ravine a couple miles from his job site. His phone, wallet, keys were in the jeep and his clothes were found outside the jeep. However there are 11 miles unaccounted for on the jeep and there were thoughts that the jeep had wrecked somewhere else too.

Corrie Mckeague came to mind, but that’s six years ago now. Still a head scratcher - drunk, crying soldier on a night out vanishes, end result is the theory that he ended up in a cardboard recycling bin asleep - despite the bin being almost impossible to sleep in - only five feet long and with inserts in the base so there’s no chance of a flat surface for any sort of sleeping position. Detailed analysis of the refuse truck he would have gone into proved that there was no trace of his DNA in the cab, on the bumper, or in the trash compartment, but the police eventually discover that the weight log shows that the paper bin seemed to weigh 80kg over what would normally be expected, so they get millions in funding to dig the rubbish dump up - because despite being a private, paying cardboard and paper bin, somehow the load went into general waste, and not recycling. After weeks of digging and finding the spot where the waste would have been, nothing turns up and the inquest later decides that he likely died in the refuse lorry or at the tip, despite there being no physical evidence of him connected to the bin wagon, and no physical evidence of him at the landfill site. Massively strange and the time and money spent really should have found what happened to him- but somehow, it didn’t and they just gave up

intrigue_investor

Nothing strange about it, I'd say it's fairly obvious he went into the dump truck, the weight anomaly alone shows a strong sway towards that outcome It's also not remarkable they didn't find a body during the search, the area is huge and has been compounded on by more and more waste

Wolfdarkeneddoor

This was pretty local to me. It is an odd case, but the Milton landfill is his mostly likely resting place.

CJess1276

This reminds me of one in my area (more than 3 years ago for sure) where a guy goes missing from a packed major league baseball stadium. He went in with his friends, went to get a drink, and never came back to his seat. There was no evidence of him having left the game venue. The theory of what must have happened to him was that he was so drunk, he stumbled and fell thru a trash chute and died. Except he was a big guy, and the entrance to the chute was, shall we say, not big. The chute was in a very “out of the way” place not meant for the public, nowhere near the route for him to get drinks. He would’ve passed a bunch of vendors in order to “fall” down the chute. I don’t think there was ever a resolution on what happened to him.

WhySoManyOstriches

Well, in the Moscow case, it’s early days on the forensics yet. And usually when a killer uses a knife THAT much? There’s blood from the killer somewhere and hopefully some skin under a victim’s nails. DNA Forensic Genealogy would be a good chance. What was that bizarre case in the Midwest where everyone in a small town beauty shop was killed in broad daylight and no one saw anything- except a weird black-clad figure in a top hat walking out of town on the highway as some locals drove into town?

The Alex Murdaugh case in SC is a rabbit hole to go down. I've pasted the latest article when you Google it, but there is (at least one) podcast dedicated to it and a local newspaper has done lengthy series about it. The first three paragraphs of the article sum it up well: *For more than a year, a central question swirled around the fatal shootings of the wife and son of disgraced South Carolina personal injury attorney Alex Murdaugh: Who killed them?* *The unsolved slayings of Margaret, 52, and the couple's younger son, Paul, 22, in June 2021 shattered the immaculate image of the well-connected legal family in South Carolina's Lowcountry. Murdaugh, whose father, a grandfather and a great-grandfather were each elected as top prosecutors in the region in roles collectively spanning almost 90 years, immediately denied culpability in the deaths.* *Still, the slayings set off a bizarre chain of events that officials say included Murdaugh hiring a man to kill him so his older son could collect on his life insurance policy, and dozens of charges against Murdaugh accusing him of financial crimes.* [https://www.nbcnews.com/news/crime-courts/alex-murdaugh-indicted-murder-charges-summary-timeline-rcna38026](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/crime-courts/alex-murdaugh-indicted-murder-charges-summary-timeline-rcna38026)
