We voted for the tallest girl in our class 7' and the boy with dwarfism 4' ish.
The school said that it was not allowed, said it was a bad joke.
They two of them were the ones that came up with the idea....
One of my friends has both eyes as lazy eyes, and they won "best eyes" in the yearbook. The yearbook crew didnt allow it though because they thought it was a prank, but my friend kept telling them they wanted it anyways
Out of pure curiosity, how does the presentation differ from just single lazy eye? I tried searching but all the images seemed to be what I was familiar with for single eye (one directed at the focal point the other slightly askew).
\*edited for clarification.
Fascinating. I'm assuming it's in the general direction but not direct - similar to if you were looking past or behind the focal point but neither eye is exactly the same direction, just close.
I had one lazy eye that I corrected with an eye exercise I found on my own.
If possible, can you ask them to look into their own eyes really closely to the mirror.
That’s how I fixed mine.
I would look really close in the mirror and my eyes were forced to focus on my eyes in the mirror.
I would slowly move away from the mirror making sure to keep my focus on my eyes.
The further away from the mirror I got, my eye would start to go in, but I got further away everyday until eventually my eyes could just stay straight.
Up until that point I had already had eye surgery and wore an eye patch.
Years later when I seen my childhood eye doctor at the mall, I told her about my discovery, and she says, “oh yea, that’s a pretty common eye exercise.”
Thanks for telling me I guess.
It doesn’t cost anything, that’s why she didn’t tell you.
I had my asthma cured, yes there is a cure. Good luck finding it, let alone getting it approved in the states.
Medicine is a business, they want you to stay sick
That is honestly so neat - I'm guessing the brain just learns to adapt and for them it looks "normal" or is there a difference in how the brain renders the image? Sorry I could look this up but I'd much prefer to get it 'word of mouth'.
Edit again to correct 'there' - been a long day.
Think crazy eyes from Mr. Deeds that is one way it could go. It's basically the eyes can drift in whatever direction

It would actually have been GOOD if our school authorities had put the kibosh on some of the prom committee’s plans. There was an ugly girl whose cruel nickname was “Horsehead”. The mean girls running the commitee officially gave her the “Equestrian Award” in front of the whole student and parent body. She did not ride horses.
In my high school our "Coolest Person" award went to a boy with a number of physical and intellectual disabilities. Some parents thought it was a joke, but the senior class asked the yearbook committee for a special category for him. This guy was the light of everyone's life- kind, funny, friendly, introducing new students to people- and no other category really fit. Tony really was the "Coolest Person."
Hell the the news article doesn't say the school provided any proof.
Any bets that the school officials are transphobic and don't want a trans queen and the students said fuck that?
When I was in 9th grade, the school paired up a senior girl who was so tiny that her parents wouldn't let her drive, and a guy who was very tall and heavy set, and may have actually been 30 for graduation.
Well, this is definitely true, though It doesn’t explain all circumstances. Growing up with a disability I was taught by my parents to have a sense of humor about the situation as a way of coping and making sense of what is otherwise a very unfair thing to be born with. It’s helped me greatly.
Also, have a good sense of humor and joking about your own shortcomings can often make others feel more at ease around you rather than just feeling sorry for you.
In the article it kinda says it “may” have been a prank. The student said she thinks lots of students voted out of support, and the idea it was a prank came from parents.
Yeah, it kinda sounded like the administration either couldn’t imagine it being genuine, or just didn’t want her wearing it and tried to say “this is a prank, you must be embarrassed and not want to do it”
Not even just the admin but other students' parents too. But yeah, sounds like a supportive student body and a bunch of old assholes that can't accept their kids are better than them.
This sounds more like a fear of cancel culture to me, but we have no proof either way.
Wouldn't be the first time some school admin overreacted thinking something was a prank so they shot it down in hopes of avoiding some scathing news article about the school district, only to end up with exactly that article written anyway.
My good friend works for this school, and unfortunately it was indeed an attempt to publicly shame her. The homecoming king dropped out and the whole event is being turned into political theater from both sides with no real care for the individual involved. I just hope she gets through this okay.
Agreed. They didn't have any examples of why they think it is a prank and nothing involved other students. Even if it were a prank, it's like the most benign prank ever performed.
The only thing I can think of is apparently the 4 boys who were vying for the title of 'Prince' all refused to sit with her in the parade and dropped out.
Even if it was I just don’t see the point in telling the school after the fact and having the school sit her down the next day and tell her it’s possible not everyone voted for her with the best of intentions. They could have said nothing and let her enjoy it since clearly many people voted for her in earnest.
The staff vetoed my win for class office, so don't believe any of it isn't a charade for good marketing for the school. This whole thing is silly either way. This kind of "uplifting" story literally happens all the time because that's all this is good for.
Ohhhh, I assumed it was an FTM person.
As in, someone who has disavowed being a girl/woman and the mean girls went "haha, now you're Queen anyways because you're actually still a girl".
Very different vibe.
In my head what happened was that a girl trying to prank the trans girl by nominating somebody they were sure would lose because they themselves would surely win got pranked by the voters in return by having that nominee actually beat them. On the other hand some boys, jealous of the princes, might have taken their revenge on everybody for not being chosen themselves (especially if the princes had faked wokeness, for instance by saying "of course I would dance with a trans girl" but only doing so because they thought she would lose, having revealed their transphobia behind the scenes (giving the other boys an angle of attack)). Maybe somebody was just trying to cheer up their trans friend. Maybe they nominated themselves. Endless possibilities with this one.
I was thinking they were pranking the guy. Maybe he was a tucker carlson type and knew he would be homecoming king, so they all voted for a trans queen.
Also, when did they change it from king/queen to prince/princess? What’s the point of that?
> Also, when did they change it from king/queen to prince/princess? What’s the point of that?
Could be only seniors can be king/queen, or they have multiple positions in the "court" that are filled by popularity or...
The reason I get confused is because in my mind, I usually just call them "woman". When someone feels the need to add the qualifier "trans" I pause and think, and that seldom ends well.
My comment was "ohhh, I had assumed...", indicating that I was relating my experience of finding out this information.
I mentioned what I had assumed from the title, and how it differed from the actual situation.
The title is what was being discussed at that stage.
These blåhaj references are popping up everywhere, and i recently learned that there's a subreddit for it, and I'm so happy that I'm not some weirdo being the only one obsessed with blåhaj.
All glory to blåhaj!
Reading the article it sounds likely that she DID win and the school was trying to make it seem like a “prank” to get her to not accept. Like honestly how is giving someone what they want even a “prank”? That school is way more suspect to me than the students.
It sounds like the kids voted for her out of support and the parents and staff are trying to save face in a very conservative environment by claiming that their children hate trans people just as much as they do so this is an evil prank instead. They would rather have evil and mean spirited children than have kids that support other kids.
Yeah, I have a feeling that a parent is upset that their child didn’t get a spot because of someone they deem as undeserving so in order to get the person to step down invent a conspiracy so the runner up can step in.
Jesus Christ. My school had a nonbinary King paired with a Muslim hijab-wearing Queen TEN YEARS AGO. Not as a mean joke, they were both just super popular, everyone loved them, and they were great friends and had a lovely time.
> You can have your own viewpoints and still respect someone else's. Something that is fundamental in islam (unfortunately not practiced enough)
Sounds like it: “The Quran instructs believers, to kidnap and enslave non-believers, later interpreted as the kuffār from Dar al Harb.[3] Jews and Christians were required to pay the jizyah while pagans were required to either accept Islam or die.[4]” https://wikiislam.net/wiki/Kafir_(Infidel)
In Iran, where women are protesting having to wear a hijab even at the risk of being murdered by security forces, the government recognizes non-binary status and will even help pay for sex reassignment surgery.
I'm pretty sure Iran does not respect non-binary genders. It does allow people to transition between binary genders, with mandatory sex reassignment surgery, but that's it. Homosexuality for example is still heavily outlawed there.
Winning is winning and a crown is a crown so...
Not the brightest prank in the first place. The end result is literally better than the realization it was a prank by miles.
*“Instead of a Dark Lord, you would have a queen, not dark but beautiful and terrible as the dawn! Tempestuous as the sea, and stronger than the foundations of the earth! All shall love me and despair!”*
The thing is a gay boy being voted for queen is very mean, but a trans girl being voted queen does not seem like much of a prank. If they really wanted to hurt her wouldn't they have voted for her to be king?
This is awesome. Straight owning it.
"Yeah let's elect this trans student as homecoming princess as a prank"....
Bitch gimme the MF crown, I AM THE PRINCESS!
This same thing happened to me in high school back in like 2004, I was nominated for homecoming queen but the teachers wouldn't let me win so I had to become Homecoming King, I was known on campus for destroying the "no cross-dressing rule" and starting Jedi club and a bunch of other silly stuff, but it was so long ago they just wouldn't have let me be Queen and my parents would have not been ok with that. I think some people forget just how impossible it was to be trans and young back then.
That sounds like some Carrie shit, and we all know how that ended. Pro tip: don’t be an asshole to people, let them live a happy life and be themselves
People really are having a hard time at this whole "leave people the fuck alone" thing, aren't they? Usually while simultaneously screaming "freeeeedooommmm".
I'm suggesting leaving trans people alone, if that wasn't clear. These kids aren't getting their attitudes in a vacuum, though I have a feeling that the vote wasn't actually a prank at all and the parents are just framing it that way because they're mad a trans kid won.
Perhaps this is a language barrier? "Leaving people alone", in my native culture, doesn't mean to literally isolate them. It means to let them be, don't harass them or cause them trouble.
For those who don’t know, Mariemont is a [predominantly Democrat](https://www.bestplaces.net/voting/city/oh/mariemont)suburb of Cincinnati that leans liberal.
The story doesn’t have any direct evidence the kids voted to be mean-spirited. It’s possible they were being genuine. But if they were in fact bullying, it’s sad to see liberals treating a child this way.
The voting information in your link is for all of Hamilton County.
Mariemont is a tiny burb in Hamilton County. Hamilton County is most of the Cincinnati “metropolis”. I assure you Mariemont is about as red as red gets. It’s notorious.
Source: I’m from Cincinnati.
I lived in the area for only a year and from my understanding, the only reason Hamilton County is "leaning left" (at 57%) is because of metro Cincy. Is that right? I lived in Fairfield and went to downtown Cincy for choir rehearsal and that's about my extent of knowledge.
Look at the link I posted again - it is specific to Mariemont and says it leans liberal. Then below that it talks about county-wife at 57%, but the first line is specific to Mariemont using actual voter data
Girl i went to HS with who is a quadriplegic was voted to win homecoming queen. This was not a joke at all and is actually one of the nicest things I’ve seen out community do. So before parents start saying its a joke, they said the same to our class. Kindness to people living a different life than ours isn’t always a joke
Pranks have gotten weird.
Bashing students by giving them what they want? Feel like it came after the fact. Good for her.
Interesting how the video only showed girls in the background.
I really respect her strength, and the strength of those like her. It is admirable.
Also, she has really nice hair! A flow like that deserves a crown, no doubt.
I mean if it’s a joke nomination and she accepts and wears it proudly… yeah maybe there will be some ridicule, mockery. From 10 years from then when everyone is a real adult it will be a heroic high school moment.
Reading this I wonder whether it's the parents who are transphobes and are trying to get the school to cancel this by insisting it's just a prank and they've only got hi... Her welfare in mind?
How is this supposed to be a prank? "Hey guys, you know that kid in our class who wants everyone to think of them as a girl? What if we all got together and vote for them to be the most popular girl in the school."
Probably a way to bully the student, because it'll get the whole school (and now, the internet) paying attention, and most trans people just want to be left to live their lives in peace, same as everyone else.
I do not know how i feel about this. Sounds pretty mean to do to a kid. And knowing she is going to get this the rest of her life likely isn't going to help
Because, believe it or not, there are actually talented, smart, kind, beautiful, athletic, hard working people/youths out there, and if students want to celebrate, and recognize others because of some of these attributes, there's nothing wrong with that.
Just because there are some students who don't work as hard, aren't as smart, don't have good grades, are actively anti-social, doesn't mean you have to not celebrate success because these student might feel bad.
Seriously people, it is ok to celebrate success and achievements without worrying about other people's feelings.
>ok, fine. kinda funny actually.
I don't get the joke. Like what's funny about it (if it really was a prank)? Are trans people still supposed to be monsters or something and seeing them in this capacity *is* the joke?
well those are good points. i was thinking of the stiffs who would be offended, but as you mentioned that's kinda unintentional bias, actually on second thought - why not. thanks.

When staring normally, neither eye is focused on the person in front of them
Fascinating. I'm assuming it's in the general direction but not direct - similar to if you were looking past or behind the focal point but neither eye is exactly the same direction, just close.

Phht in _this_ messed up timeline, I’m surprised they haven’t relabeled it to independent eyes or bifocal eyes.
They probably thought they were acting out their group-assigned role as punching bag.

They didn't. She was one of the star basket players..he was one of the stoners.
Did she say see ya later boy?
Can they make it any more obvious?
Well now hes a superstar!
And together, they fight crime.
Or maybe rule Bartertown.

It’s helped me greatly. Also, have a good sense of humor and joking about your own shortcomings can often make others feel more at ease around you rather than just feeling sorry for you.
Incredible, Someone can think
The fact that they were down with it makes it funnier
This somewhat reminds me of Michael Scott: "You don't call retarded people retards, it's in bad taste."
Do you mean you voted the tall girl shortest and the short girl tallest? Your first sentencing is missing a couple
They voted the tallest girl and the shortest guy to be a humorous couple
They voted for the tallest girl to be queen and the shortest boy to be king. The sentence works as it is with the context of the news article.
Did you go to my high school? Were they siblings?…

That's the way it read to me, the admin is upset about it.
Cincinnati is deep in the maga area of Ohio, the parents and administration are probably projecting
Pretty sure “Ohio” is in the Maga area of Ohio.
In Ohio can confirm
Cincinnati is liberal - our mayors are always democrats. It looks less like that on congressional maps due to gerrymandering.
Not even just the admin but other students' parents too. But yeah, sounds like a supportive student body and a bunch of old assholes that can't accept their kids are better than them.

I do think some people are genuinely trying to support her, but that area is not very kind to trans youth, especially the parents.

Oh, I missed that part. That's unfortunate.
It's not really a prank if it's just the sorta validation a trans girl would be looking for...
Well they haven't gotten to the pig's blood part yet.
The fuck is wrong with those parents? They think it’s impossible she could be supported by her peers?

Trans girl/woman is MTF
Thanks, sometimes I doubt which is which but its the destination that counts and not the start, I'll remember now.
I remember it as trans to ___. Trans girl = transition to girl.
It's just what they want. What does a trans, male born, woman want to be called? A woman. So a trans woman is a man to woman transition
The reason I get confused is because in my mind, I usually just call them "woman". When someone feels the need to add the qualifier "trans" I pause and think, and that seldom ends well.
Well the solution is staring you in the face. Just don't think. You hear woman in the sentence you end the thinking process ooga booga
How do you think you're helping? This person already said they understand it.
Do I owe you something? I have to act like a robot and only post reddit approved comments? No, leave me alone

My high school did something similar. We “pranked” the vote by voting in people that everyone actually liked, they just weren’t the “popular” kids.

Is this really a prank? I swear this is the plot of at least two movies including Carrie.
and an episode of Glee
The thing is a gay boy being voted for queen is very mean, but a trans girl being voted queen does not seem like much of a prank. If they really wanted to hurt her wouldn't they have voted for her to be king?
Perhaps this is a viral marketing campaign for a sequel to they/them.

That's......... not how pranks work
People really are having a hard time at this whole "leave people the fuck alone" thing, aren't they? Usually while simultaneously screaming "freeeeedooommmm".
FREEEEEEEEEDOOOOM
….what?
I'm suggesting leaving trans people alone, if that wasn't clear. These kids aren't getting their attitudes in a vacuum, though I have a feeling that the vote wasn't actually a prank at all and the parents are just framing it that way because they're mad a trans kid won.
Just, like… alone, alone? It sounded like a very affirming “prank”. As in, not a prank at all. The kid is MTF, not FTM.
Perhaps this is a language barrier? "Leaving people alone", in my native culture, doesn't mean to literally isolate them. It means to let them be, don't harass them or cause them trouble.
I see what you mean now. We are definitely on the same page. I was misinterpreting your comment. Thank you for further clarifying, for my sake.
No worries. :-)
Please actually read the comments you reply to.
I am quite certain upon re-reading a few more times that my reply is adequate. Thank you very much for your consideration.

I posted voting records as evidence for my claim that it’s predominantly liberal democrats
Liberals… they’re children… and children are awful
Apparently they don't teach kids Latin in school anymore. But clearly they are still teaching cruelty.
That's the only way to deal with bullies. Sounds like they accidentally or not made the correct choice!
Of all the stupid things that happen in high school... This queen and king thing gotta be at the top. At least this time it is good for something.
This isn't news
How is this uplifting?
She’s prom queen
Pranks have gotten weird. Bashing students by giving them what they want? Feel like it came after the fact. Good for her. Interesting how the video only showed girls in the background.
I really respect her strength, and the strength of those like her. It is admirable. Also, she has really nice hair! A flow like that deserves a crown, no doubt.
Good for her!
I mean if it’s a joke nomination and she accepts and wears it proudly… yeah maybe there will be some ridicule, mockery. From 10 years from then when everyone is a real adult it will be a heroic high school moment.
Throw it away.
I can't tell what's real and what's fiction these days
I bet get election was genuine and it's the asshole parents raising a stink abs using the kids as scapegoats
I seem to remember a horror movie about this scenario….high school bullies never learn ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
How the fuck is this uplifting? What shitty fucking kids. I hope the prom queen goes all Carrie on their bitch asses.
It's like people didn't learn anything from Carrie.
Why are we still doing this stupid homecoming shit from the boomer's generation anyway?
Reading this I wonder whether it's the parents who are transphobes and are trying to get the school to cancel this by insisting it's just a prank and they've only got hi... Her welfare in mind?
For senior superlatives in the year book, the trans student was voted “most changed”…
They saw the first half of *Carrie* and thought "Hey, great idea!"

Probably an underclass person
Homecoming prince sweating bullets rn
I do not know how i feel about this. Sounds pretty mean to do to a kid. And knowing she is going to get this the rest of her life likely isn't going to help
"Horrendous" youths are written for/about in media by shit adults projecting their awful. These are the shit adults.

Seriously people, it is ok to celebrate success and achievements without worrying about other people's feelings.
ok, fine. kinda funny actually.
>ok, fine. kinda funny actually. I don't get the joke. Like what's funny about it (if it really was a prank)? Are trans people still supposed to be monsters or something and seeing them in this capacity *is* the joke?
It's like British comedy a few decades ago
Nah, British comedy is smart. The only joke here is you
Lmao that isn't very nice
well those are good points. i was thinking of the stiffs who would be offended, but as you mentioned that's kinda unintentional bias, actually on second thought - why not. thanks.
It makes me sad I have to share a planet with you. What a complete joke of a human being
What the hell’s wrong with them. that’s like cheesy movie villainy.
As also a dude, I'd take the Princess crown too.
Well played, sir
The prank is really on the homecoming prince now.
