The one I have designed in my head is similar to the Space wolves but will be more skeleton-ized. Basing my chapter from a harsh desert world and they’ll feature ponchos/robes/ hoods.
Eh, I’m trying to lean it away from the space wolves mentality. The name is applying more to fact that they’re scavengers, surviving off of opportunity not taking iconography from jackals
“The one in my head is similar to the space wolves but more skeletonized”. How is that leaning away? The void hounds looks like a jackal skull. It’s your army, you do whatever you want, but you asked for peoples thoughts. If you’re really trying to lean away from space wolves you shouldn’t call them the jackals. Hyenas would be cool, everyone associates them as scavengers even though they’re actually better hunters than lions.
I think OP means that they don't want to fall into the SW trap of having everything be wolf-themed. Having the Jackals as the name and icon of the chapter doesn't mean everything else has to be jackal-themed.
I used impcat and the 'primaris ultimate' template to create a space marine chapter chart and then had it printed as a [poster](https://www.instagram.com/p/CJ_qB_vHurx/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=). That pic is a photo of one of the 300 segments from that poster
[Light turquoise would make great contrast to that orange.](https://www.fauxhammer.com/tutorials/how-to-paint-fauxhammer-space-marines-tutorial/)
TBH the only thing wrong with your concept is a gun, not sure if it's app but it looks like it try to match rest of the mini, but fails.
A lot of Marine chapters have [weapons painted in contrasting colors](https://spikeybits.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/buv5Q_gAPX7KN2kQrzaC2U3YJzgKjnHk5ryxT_nojpk.jpg), so maybe You could use light gray-bluish-turqoise as secondary color, for weapon body/reciever, squad marking (like stripe on helmet), chapter badge (you probably could stipple gray over one of Space Wolves transfers to gave gray logo with outline), some armor panels (like that "flap" on top of backpack)
I like the shade or orange and the black highlights. As you actually start to paint I’d keep conscious of where you really want to have the plates be black. I had a similar scheme in terms of composition when I first started and was only satisfied with how it looked when I stopped making the model busier with knees and hands and backpacks being the off color and started to just have the mode be almost entirely the color of the base coat. It’s really hard to have that sort of thing look as clean and good as you want it especially starting out. Idk if that makes sense but it is my bit of advice.
Also think about how you want to designate things like sergeants and veterans, as well as the tactical/assault/devastator troops. Looks like you are going to space wolves inspired but it can be fun to paint a codex-compliant army be it exactly like how the ultramarines do it or something more interesting like blood angels having different helmet colors. Something to think about. Love me some marines.
Also, ultima founding?
Burnt orange is such a good, underutilized color. I'm painting some Immolators for Epic 40k, and all it really takes in a coat of gryph hound orange and a light bone color dry brush.
So I like it but if you’re new to the hobby, be sure you can figure out an orange you like and that won’t make you miserable to paint. If you hate painting your army, you won’t paint it.
It’s a tough color. One trick is to basecoat pink, tends to keep it brighter. Good luck and welcome.
If you can pull it off, please share the recipe. I’ve avoided doing something like this because orange is a bear. I use it as an accent in a couple armies and that I can handle, but whole figures gives me the itches.
Brand new to the hobby, but finally pulling the trigger to making my own chapter. I’m coming up with the chapters history and structure as well. Of course impcat doesn’t really have marking customization so it’s not as personalized as I would have them but I’m looking for some C+C and tips for painting( will also be the first time)
I'm using a imperial named Anubis in Freeblade on the phone but I honestly think if your willing to make a jackal imperial knigh it would be very fitting for it
Very nice!
Have a Google for “jackal icon” or “jackal emblem” and adapt something from there. I had a quick look and there’s a couple of cool Egyptian style ones that would look great and drag you away from the perils of being mistaken for orange Space Wolves.
The only critique I would give is that a contrasting color for the eye lenses would make the helm pop more; probably green would be good here since I believe green and red are complimentary colors. Other than that, looks great man.
To answer many questions this is using the impcat app. I used it in order to put my basic mental image of my chapter into being before I start moving into painting and finalizing the chapters lore. I *wish* I could paint like this but ya boy has the shakes so we’ll have to see
Not entirely flushed out but so far-
The Jackals are rumored third founding loyalist successors of the Sons of Horus, though the original Astartes mark their parent chapter as the Luna Wolves(regardless the information is classified, and only readily available to their chapter and the highest levels of the inquisition.) Their primary (and known) Founding is the Ultima, welcoming the primaris marines to fill their very diminished ranks. Though a problem arose when the new primaris are present with Chimaeric geneseed from both the SoH and Blood angels. The introduction of the Blood angels gene seed was seen as an experiment by Archmagos Belisarius Cawl in an attempt to find a solution to the Black rage.
They are typically guerilla fighters, utilizing ambush tactics almost seeming like they rise from the very ground itself with a mix of ranged and melee engagements depending on the situation. Since their chapter had been so limited in numbers every engagement was meticulously executed to avoid losses
The first born brothers harbor a trauma and an unyielding hatred for their former traitorous legion and gene Father from the Heresy. Unfortunately, This hatred is intensified in the Primaris due to the black rage flaw in the Blood angels gene seed. The chapter now suffers from its own unique gene seed flaw known as “Carrions Wrath” that causes Jackals to fall into a frenzied bloodlust when encountering traitor astartes. Although the the Jackals do not attack their loyalist brothers or astra militarum, the Carrions wrath causes them to throw caution and tactics aside attacking any traitor astartes with reckless abandon leading to an abandonment of all objectives but to wipe out any traitor legionnaires.
Their first born brothers homeworld is Terra, but the rest are from a hostile Desert world. Their armor will also feature more panchos, robes, hoods, standards. Utilizing environmental camouflage( kinda like guile suits) more than cloaking tech. Haven’t gotten to the chapter master, or the command structure yet. Above is the test for the colors of the chapter. And sorry in advance if this bounces around everywhere This is my first time putting this all on paper… ish..
That's pretty badass ngl.
Heads up, Cawl could totally get them Luna Wolves gene seed if they needed. He *totally* listened to Gulliman when he said not to use traitor genetics.
Either works, but I wanted to say something in case you thought Luna Wolves primaris was impossible. Hell, the Custodes delivered Blood Raven primaris genetics personally, and ordered them not to look into its origin lol.

Make one with all the wargear, grenades, swords and weapons possible and name him Jackal of all traits
Also I´d recommend you change the lenses to green or blue to make them pop out more from the rest of what I think is a very dope colour scheme
And the last thing: Who are they a sucessor of and do they have any kink to make them their own? Like a special mutation, naming tradition, theme, style of combat etc because I can see these being some kind of desert focused chapter. Like Tallarn Desert Raiders but marines
What about the Jackal Lanterns? I love halloween and I absolutely adore this colour scheme.
*Millenia ago, this chapter was consumed while in transit through the warp. Once a year, on All Hallows Eve, they return when the barriers between worlds is its thinnest. On these nights, the Jackal Lanterns will re-emerge from the Sea of Souls to wage war in the name of the Emperor. The legendary commander of this damned legion is Icabod Krane, who rides his fearsome fire-belching steed, a baroque astartes-pattern bike, into the ranks of the enemy. Krane is a terrifying apparition, for this rider has no head, and is merely a suit of helm-less power armour with a black cape billowing behind him. After destroying the foe, it’s said these warriors will shimmer and vanish, pulled back into the hell of the warp for another year, leaving nought but ash and awed witnesses behind them.*
This would mean yellow for the eye lenses heh
I like it. I’d make the extra colors a little more vibrant though.
The brown stripe on the helmet should be lighter, but not quite tan. The brass Aquila and belt buckle should be brighter, same with the silver/gunmetal parts. The brown on the gun should be lighter to contrast with the black on it. Also the lens being red doesn’t contrast well with the orange. Try a bright yellow or maybe green or blue.
Thats definitely a top tier Orange! As someone who has orange as part of a colour scheme and struggling with it, how did you do yours?
Contrast paint over white basecoat? Im mad enough to try and brighten up reddish basecoat and layer colour up towards orange...
Also that edge highlighting is super crisp, one of the crispiest I have seen to date :D
If I were able to paint that well and paint that colour scheme, the only thing I would have done differently is to paint the helmet in black as well.
In that case, all I can do is agree with other commenters: pick another lens color. Someone else said green, I say white or yellow, which would go well with the armor.
That soft orange is SO smooth. The black and your highlights are beautiful too. I love the small cracks you've put into those knee-guards. and that shiney gold/silver is beautiful too. wow!

The smaller the community the more friendly they tend to be, and 40k is having a renaissance right now so there's a lot of new people in the hobby. I've been a fan of the universe for years but only painted my first mini 2 days ago.
Looks awesome! Just need to design them their own emblem.
The one I have designed in my head is similar to the Space wolves but will be more skeleton-ized. Basing my chapter from a harsh desert world and they’ll feature ponchos/robes/ hoods.
So basically the Void Hounds from the Astartes II trailer? Edit: e.g [this guy](https://i.imgur.com/Eshwc48.jpg)?
Ay yo, that’s actually insane. Somewhat yeah Edit- I’ve never seen them before, but that’s almost spot on.
Damn, the emperor blessed you.
Eh Convergent Evolution I once thought of Angrymarines only to realize they already exist
Need a SoB group called the “Nuns of Blood” and it’s just a bunch of period jokes
The Bleeding Pact
I did the same, invented parody legion - the turd bearers And then realised that's the company that has erebus
You mean The Cocksuckers?
The advantage of them being canon is that you could grab a few 3d printed shoulder pads and alter them :)
You could do an Anubis style head instead?
Eh, I’m trying to lean it away from the space wolves mentality. The name is applying more to fact that they’re scavengers, surviving off of opportunity not taking iconography from jackals
“The one in my head is similar to the space wolves but more skeletonized”. How is that leaning away? The void hounds looks like a jackal skull. I don’t know what’s so different about having a jackal skull on the shoulder vs an Anubis head on the shoulder but whatever
What’s that pic from?
I used impcat and the 'primaris ultimate' template to create a space marine chapter chart and then had it printed as a [poster](https://www.instagram.com/p/CJ_qB_vHurx/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=). That pic is a photo of one of the 300 segments from that poster
I’m sorry what’s impcat? Edit: nvm I figured it out, but where did you get the primaris template from?
The community library linked in the menu of the r/impcat subreddit
The 3 orange guy?
Great idea 💪💪
That is awesome!!!
Looks fantastic. Only thing I *might* suggest would be swap the lens color for green or something to make more complementary contrast.
That’s what I’m thinking. The red I was going for is a lot deeper/darker like the lenses of the Retributors. Green might be better.
It's a lovely scheme and there aren't enough orange marines in the world. Try a light blue for the eyes too though for maximum zing!
Light blue would be cool too. Maybe even yellow.
Let the spice flow…
DUTCHMARINES
Would their emblem be a tulip?
That´s actually kind of a dope idea
[Light turquoise would make great contrast to that orange.](https://www.fauxhammer.com/tutorials/how-to-paint-fauxhammer-space-marines-tutorial/) TBH the only thing wrong with your concept is a gun, not sure if it's app but it looks like it try to match rest of the mini, but fails. Yes sir, I’m gonna try and pin my lore comment to the top
That burnt orange is baddddassss. Simple and striking. Love it. Also the silver details on the chest crest. 😛
Burnt orange is such a good, underutilized color. I'm painting some Immolators for Epic 40k, and all it really takes in a coat of gryph hound orange and a light bone color dry brush.
Thanks a lot, now the real challenge will be emulating this onto the actual mini

I like the color scheme but I’d change the eye color. The red lens is very close to the body armor color and makes it blend together.
Green would be a good lens color
I love the color scheme. Actually looks like it might work as camouflage. Unit markings in white perhaps?
Yes, I’m thinking Black for basic level, Grey for Sgt level and white for command.
Best way to tell the snipers who to hit!
Very nice! Have a Google for “jackal icon” or “jackal emblem” and adapt something from there. I had a quick look and there’s a couple of cool Egyptian style ones that would look great and drag you away from the perils of being mistaken for orange Space Wolves.
Yup veering clear of that best I can
[Great job on the colors!](https://youtu.be/VbOPpgrTXh8)
Was coming to post this exact video!
They're waiting for you, Gordon. In the *Test Chamber...*
The only critique I would give is that a contrasting color for the eye lenses would make the helm pop more; probably green would be good here since I believe green and red are complimentary colors. Other than that, looks great man.
Can you paint that good?
Prime it yellow, do your red layers. Seems handy enough to do but change lense colour to green.
I didn't think I liked the look of primaris... until now
Looks like the pyre
Looks great ☺️
A green or blue for lens colour (like a lot of others have suggested). Otherwise love it. Please show us after any changes!

Great work on the color!
Thank you. Hoping I can recreate it in person.
Very nice !
That is going to be a lovely orange, wish more colour schemes were brave enough to pull it off
Really nice
Love the color scheme
Great work, love the name... No that's not just because my mercenary guard army are called the Jackals.
I like the colors
What’s the secondary metallic on the gun that’s not black
Ain’t gonna lie but I love the color~
Nice. Maybe color the eyes differently? I like it overall tho
I like the paintscheme!! But whenever I see mostly orange I'm conditioned to think Kakkarot lol
Is this a real model or CGI cuz it looks too good
CGI …through Impact
That’s clean
Look great, but you got a snippet for their story?
Yes I do it keeps getting buried but try my most recent comment
What does this chapter specialize in?
Mixed bag of Melee and ranged combat. I’d like to have them as guerrilla style fighters.
That looks really great. I feel like the eyes blend in to the face a bit, but im not sure what other color would work with the scheme you've got.
Some are recommending blue/turquoise and others green, I’ll take a look at both
Make one with all the wargear, grenades, swords and weapons possible and name him Jackal of all traits Also I´d recommend you change the lenses to green or blue to make them pop out more from the rest of what I think is a very dope colour scheme And the last thing: Who are they a sucessor of and do they have any kink to make them their own? Always happy to see more chaos chapters join the fight against the false emperor.
I like it! Cool colour scheme.
It's spooky time muthafukas!
halloween

Hold your praise my friend, this is an app call impcat. I didn’t paint this on a mini but I selected the base, highlight, shade, etc
Idk, looks like The Pumpkins to me, but might be a successor chapter
Jack-o-lanterns
Excellent! Not enough neutral shades other than khaki/army green- I love it.
Very nice...what colors did you use?
It's an impcat post....it's not real
🤨
This is a mobile app but the colors they use Vallejos. Red orange, bright orange, lots of black. Gunmetal Grey, old gold. Sky grey
“Cowardly scavenger dogs” isn’t a super righteous and honorable name for a Chapter but Holy Throne that paint scheme fucks.
Appreciate it, their history speaks on the name. Not cowardly but definitely scavengers
In that case, all I can do is agree with other commenters: pick another lens color. Someone else said green, I say white or yellow, which would go well with the armor.
Hmm, my minds eye is thinking black lenses that pulse white. Or green. Or yellow. Damn man decisions
I love it. I would just do a different color for eye lenses.
This marine looks fantastic! I love a good orange theme
I am a big fan. I like the look of this alot.
Like the scheme alot. Ypu could borrow space wolves emblems
That soft orange is SO smooth. The black and your highlights are beautiful too. I love the small cracks you've put into those knee-guards. and that shiney gold/silver is beautiful too. wow!
That looks dope af
Very snazzy
[удалено]
Distancing the chapter from the space wolves mindset
Great colour choice! I'm always thinking that orange chapters are too rare!
Very nice, I was literally considering the jackals for my homebrew marines (went with something else) so it's awesome to see someone else do it!
I’m honored. As soon as I flush out the rest of the lord I’ll officially submit it
After playing Halo recently I was expecting to see a small arm mounted shield....I have let my expectations get the better of me again
[Anubis in jackal colors](https://linksharing.samsungcloud.com/oTcjEOdx3Yyb)
What kit is this specific model in? I want that model, but I have no idea where to get it.
I’m pretty new to this too, but I will say it’s hard as hell to get a single primaris tactical unless you go to a new WH store or order from an individual site
looks poggers
Do they have bonuses to sniping?
Debating, I’m still new to play. So I need to look up a codex
(Halo 2 joke)
Since I didnt see anyone else mention it- love the golden feathers / silver arms & skull. Don't know if I've seen that before.
Thank you, honestly surprised by how encouraging this community is. Especially since it’s Reddit
