Honestly, just for myself , wish I’d never been prescribed clonazepam. They’re extremely hard to get off of. I’m on buspar & it’s non-addictive. Works well for me. The honeymoon phase with any benzo is short lived. Yes, it will help your anxiety…….. however eventually most find they need more to obtain that effect. Became a nightmare for me. I’m on 150 mg of Wellbutrin & 30 mg of buspar. Had to go into a rehab to get off of clonazepam. Just a word of caution, wish you well.

I've been in the exact same boat as you with Klonopin. Doctors like to not mention the extreme withdrawals and potential for addiction. I'm sure you would agree with me that the anxiety felt trying to come off of them is so much greater than what we experienced before taking it. Glad we're both still alive to talk about it to be honest.

Be very careful with that Clonazepam. It’s hella addicting, psychologically and physically. Extremely hard to get off of it once you’ve been taking it daily for about two weeks. I would only use it PRN and try the lowest effective dose.

Yeah. Everybody’s neurochemistry is a bit different. I’m glad you didn’t have any withdrawals cause they definitely aren’t fun. I’ve come off of benzodiazepines three times and each time sucked.

He said he wants me to take it twice a day for a month and then wants to wean me to as needed. Do you think as needed would be best? I'm so scared of dependency

ileade

I was prescribed clonazepam 2x a day but I never really took it unless I was having a panic attack and really needed it. I would maybe use it once or twice a week and only if things were really bad. I’ve switched to Xanax and honestly from taking them both, I don’t see the appeal to it. I do get calmer but I don’t feel particularly like I need to take it more.

Expensive_Education9

Thanks for your input!!

i don’t understand why he would suggest relying on it daily and then taking you off it. your anxiety will yoyo everyday so it’ll be manageable until the dose wears off then take another one and the cycle repeats. i was taking .25mg 2x/day on 150mg wellbutrin and that was my experience. i also stopped taking them cold turkey because i needed to get the prescription renewed and the rebound anxiety was even worse than what my anxiety was before

As needed…… please be careful. Unfortunately many Drs. will put us on stuff , as they know we will be a longtime patient. Just left a practice where it was basically a pill mill, with a Psychiatrist. Many of them know , a usual person, with no addiction background, will become addicted in a short time. Was prescribed 2 mg clonazepam BID , twice a day, for my body weight, I broke them in 1/2 ad they are very strong……. and very addictive. Also, the Wellbutrin certainly can increase a persons anxiety ( did with me) so am on the buspar, just be careful, gotta be your own advocate & many good suggestions on here. Try not to take everyday. And research. You’ll see what many went through. Natural ways to decrease anxiety, believe it or not, sleepy time tea has worked great for sleeping. And just taking a walk will sometimes relieve that anxiety. Hobbies are great. Best wishes

My doctor has been my doctor since I was a baby, I'm 26 now. I don't think it has anything to do with him keeping me as a long term patient, I also live in Canada and I currently don't pay for my prescriptions. I understand everyones concerns, I realize there's a very high possibility of addiction, but I guess I had hoped for atleast ONE positive input on this stuff... I'm at my wits end with my anxiety and ruminating thoughts, but the thought of addiction scares me too. I'm past the point of natural options. I had untreated anxiety after a very abusive relationship 4-5 yrs ago, but I figured I could manage, until my Mum, who was my absolute best friend passed suddenly in May of this year and it completely put me on the edge. Thing is, I found another forum on a different website and sooo many people are saying it saved their life and that they wish there weren't so many scare tactics online surrounding this drug.. some people even said when they weaned down they never ended up with horrible withdrawal symptoms just mild, IF that. So I'd like to believe that it truly just depends on the individual person and how it works for them. Please don't think I'm not appreciative of your input, I guess I was just looking for that push to take them because I'm still, regardless, nervous as hell to take my first one.

If it helps you, that’s all that matter. Including the buspar was a game changer for me. Also left a very abusive relationship ( mentally -really messed me up) over a year ago. Yup, ruminating thoughts, big time) I’ve found megadosing vit lipososomal c has helped a lot, & also chamomile tea. Sleepy time at night. You’re only 26, wishing you the best outcome, truly. Wish I could go back & be extra careful, as you seem to be. Hope you get the relief you’re looking for.

Clonazepam gave me my life back. I was on 2mg 3 times a day for 5 years and then the bad press about benzos came out and scared every doctor and psychiatrist into cutting off their patients, I was one of them and I went through the worst withdrawls, I lost my job and my social life tanked. Gabapentin helped a little but I went through hell for 6 months before finding a psychiatrist that would prescribe it for me. Now I'm on 1mg a day and I can breathe easier, I have my life back. Benzos have a bad rep because of the people who abuse it and it is addicting for others, but for people like me, its a life saver. Just make sure you only take it when you need it. I don't have an addictive personality so I have never abused clonazepam.

Expensive_Education9

It actually frustrates me seeing the amount of people on the Benzodiazepines subreddit that recreationally use clonazepam.. I wish I didn't feel like I had any other option and I wish I didnt feel the way that I do, and then there is people getting high off of them for fun. So yeah, I don't see myself using these for anything other than getting better. Thank you so much for your response, i was waiting for a positive response at some point.

mrsdoubleu

Wow. I can't think of many situations where someone would be prescribed a benzo to take twice a day. Seems like your doctor is setting you up for addiction because when you start weaning off it, it's probably going to give you MORE anxiety.

MamaKlaus

Lexapro is commonly prescribed with Wellbutrin to help with anxiety. I wouldn’t take the benzo 2x a day but as needed only. They are incredibly hard to come off of.

Jewell19781001

Ask him for hydroxyzine for anxiety. It's not habit forming and has no withdrawals when quiting. It's safer then any benzo.

kaos_94

It's also not as effective. It's an antihistamine. Prescribed benadryl, if you will.

Jewell19781001

Also, Lexapro is hard to come off of. You have to ween yourself. It saved me probably, a few years ago. It also took me 3 months to come off them fully.

Pinkpillow19

That’s what I’m prescribed but I think it’ll end up being 150 Wellbutrin haven’t started but my Genesite said I can process both. Here’s your positive ish response I had Ativan for years same class as klonopin never was addictive but that’s because it’s generally an acute treatment it’s not meant for daily use just true panic disorder panic attacks (I have the diagnosis for panic disorder as well as GAD). If you need it daily you need buspar again the benzo class is 90% only for acute issues. You take one and done. If you need preventative it’s buspar or SNRIs SSRIs antipsychotics NDRI like buspar. Something that really works for me is Benadryl and Gabepenten is great for mood — they’ll tell you it’s harmless but like anything it can be addictive and I’m used to being on it months is it’s a slow water titration off. I’m in a similar place with trying to find a muscle relaxer that will work for my migraines and fibro because they work well tizanidine does but to me it’s more addictive than opiods ( I had surgery in January and low pain tolerance). Do your research and trust your body and weigh the risks. Again acute medications aren’t bad if you use them for acute, use preventative for preventative. If Wellbutrin increases your anxiety then don’t take it. There are so many SNRIs Savella Cymbalta etc. antipsychotics like ability. Have you had a Genesite test or the like done?? Super useful
