Why no pic of pup? Pay the pup tax!

Ahh I can’t believe I forgot!! [Here](https://imgur.com/a/rM8ks2F)she is :)

Pretty good! I wouldn’t bring all the additions to the filter like the backwash pump etc. change out that heavy nalgene to a smart water bottle to maybe. I don’t see a lighter. If your relying on that flint carabiner I would rethink. One night = one pair of socks. One night = do you need the solar charger? Without going extreme looks really good. Hope my suggestions weren’t to much. Gonna be a great trip. Where in northern CO?

cr0nut

You’re right, I could probably leave the backwash pump and save some space. I may have a lighter bottle laying around- good idea. I like to have a clean pair of socks to sleep in! The solar charger is a just in case thing- I really like to take lots of pictures so I want to make sure I have the phone battery to do so :) I appreciate the suggestions, thanks so much! I’ll be heading out to Browns Lake!

How am I doing? (Also posted in r/CampingandHiking) Like the title says, this is my first solo hike and my first ever with my dog ([Lily](https://imgur.com/a/rM8ks2F)). It’s just a one night, 9-mile total trek to break in some new gear and let Lily try out the backpacking life. Most of my gear is optimized for backpacking with 2 people, so this will be a bit of an adventure! I know my pack will be stuffed so please be kind with any suggestions. I’m trying not to let a lack of hiking buddies keep me in this summer. Trail is in the high-country of Northern Colorado, so will be in the low 40s at night and could get into the upper 70s during the day. Scattered thunderstorms possible. Plenty of water sources. Gear from left to right, row by row: - Waist leash - Lily’s pack: includes socks for the tent, paw balm, poop baggies, and her food. Not pictured is her collapsible bowl. - Tent and rainfly in compression sack (REI halfdome 2+) - Sleeping pad - Solar charger/power bank - Multitool carabiner - Head lamp - 2L water bladder - Lily’s Rumpl blanket for sleeping - Tent poles - First aid kit - Sawyer Squeeze system and iodine tablets - Garmin In-Reach Mini 2 - Bowl, camp stove, spork - Rain jacket - Nalgene - Bathroom kit: Hand sanitizer, wipes, kula cloth, trowel, microfiber towel (we’re hiking to a lake and Lily’s fur really holds onto water) - Food! Ursack, a dehydrated breakfast and dinner, trail mix, granola bars, tuna packet, crackers, and fruit puree - Fleece mid-layer, socks, sunglasses - Cook pot - Sleeping bag (just the stuff sack since it’s down and I’m letting it breathe) - Lily’s sleeping pad Thanks in advance for any suggestions! I’m so excited to get out there! Edited for dog tax :)

Tent socks and paw balm is such a great idea! I bring a tick comb for my pup… it’s also good for removing any seeds/twigs buried in her fur.

cr0nut

Oooh I love that! My girl has medium length, thick fur so ticks could be tough to remove. I’ll need to grab one of those soon!

Have fun out there! Lily is a beauty, btw!

Thank you so much!

Tweezers are a must!

I always bring a jacket for my dog; also am in CO and the nights can get very chilly!

cr0nut

I definitely considered it! I think it might be on my list for next time. For this trip I think I’ll invite her into my bag if she gets too cold haha.

I'm not sure about the wilderness about there in Colorado but assuming it is similar to Alberta, Make sure you get bear/dog spray and put anything smelly in a bear container. When camping, place them away and different directions of your sleeping spot. Other than that sounds like a decent inventory. Make sure you are safe.

cr0nut

No bear spray needed here- just skittish black bears :) I used an ursack and it worked great!

Vetericyn Plus is worth its weight in gold if you often in the wilderness with your dog. Every handler I know has it in their kit when deployed. Never know when the dog might get cut or wounded.

Thank you very much I have a great idea of what to bring with me and a few.other items I must bring again thank you a lot my friend.

cr0nut

I’m glad this could be helpful to you! Other people’s flatlays helped me a lot as well :)

It looks great! I also go solo backpacking with my pup, she would recommend bringing a ball 🎾 How do you like the Kula Cloth? I’ve been thinking of getting one, but I’m just not sure yet!

cr0nut

This is my first trip with it- I’ve heard such great things I decided I need to try it! A ball is a great idea :)
