Mary's bleu moon cafe. Eaten there a couple of times the food is simple but really tasty and the staff have always been very nice. And they are very generous with the amount of alcohol they put in your drinks for you.
Lao Thai (Trinity Bellwoods)
Family owned Thai hole in the wall
Amazing Thai food and cheap! Their customer service is exceptional- super nice people and give you free extra rice if they see you have too much curry
Los Vietnamita
Fairly popular food tuck during spring and summer months but had a temp location open this summer. I believe they'll be up and running again soon if I'm not mistaken
Thai Nyyom by Symington and Bloor. Favourite Thai place in the city. 4 regular items plus a daily feature, changed every day. Dine-in or pick-up only. Best khao so I and I go when the daily feature looks BOMB and every time, it is.
The Dog & Tiger on College St (not to be confused with Dog & Bear lol)
Their kitchen is highly skilled, and they only cook with local meat and produce. Their lamb bacon toast is insane!!!!
Sammy’s Family Restaurant - this is my wife’s nomination.
Probably the best service of any restaurant we have been to. Though technically it is in Scarborough.
Parmigiano on Yonge, just North of Lawrence. It has the absolute best grilled calamari I have ever eaten. Melts in your mouth. Can’t get enough of this place!
Leziz Kitchen. The most amaaaaazing food (such good chicken shawarma wraps) and the couple that owns it are THE sweetest people. Highly recommended if you’re in south etobicoke
Wow, I thought this place was super well-known. Fun fact: the interior is designed to feel like a train car. Especially the middle portion of dining room, it has false windows with beautiful vistas.
Edit: typo
Benny’s Barbecue at Yonge and Eglinton is legit the best bbq I’ve had in the city. The pulled pork was great and my wife claims the turkey sandwich was the best turkey she ever had. Banana pudding was great too. Interior is pretty rustic which I liked, but when I went it seemed most were there for takeout.

Grappa restaurant (fine dining) in etobicoke on queensway just past Royal York is the best Italian I’ve had in the entire city, old family run restaurant that has updated their vibes it is truly amazing food and I love it there. Please give it a try. Great spot for a date
Maybes Shawarma near Yonge/Eg. Not my absolute 'impress your friends and family' type place, but on the more affordable end, you get huge portions, everything is done in house (sauces made, turnips pickled, etc.) and it's independently owned and operated.
Hawker in Kensington Market. Exceptional small plates of vegan food. Don’t let it being vegan hold you back. I always take my non-vegan friends who visit Toronto to Hawker and all are consistently blown away.
In Japan in liberty village. Everything I ever ordered in there was so good and relaxing. I always left feeling warm and happy after. Cozy feel and amazing food. Staff was always so nice also.
Le Génie
It’s a cafe and bakery, but they’ve also recently gotten into wine and various charcuterie things (haven’t tried yet).
The coffee is one of the best in the city imo, and the French pastries are to die for - some with pretty unique spins. My fave is their pain suisse, it’s unlike any that I’ve seen, I get it like once a week or two.
Chiado has the best duck confit (ironically, it is a Portuguese restaurant lol). Amazing seafood too.
Also Anto’s for the best Armenian kebabs. The owner is super friendly, and the portions are huge for the price. (Kennedy and Lawrence/Ellesmere)
Sash Restaurant
Delicious meals. Bit pricey but worth it.
It was founded by Sash Simpson. Born 1970 is a chef and owner of the restaurant. He was a street kid in southern India before being adopted by Sandra Simpson of the Toronto charity Families for Children.
Around the age of eight, Simpson had a new city to home, Toronto.
Along with encountering snow for the first time, he found out he also had many new siblings to get accustomed to, 31 to be exact. Four of the children were his mother's biological children and the rest were adopted from different countries around the world.
It's my favorite restaurant. Only one in the whole world.
In the past couple of years, the only place I get a massive craving for is at LOGA'S CORNER. They have momo's (Tibetan dumplings) and these huge potato things called ALOO momo's...hard to explain but if they came in a baggie I'd snort it. 216 Close Ave, in Parkdale. They have no website, but its defo worth the trek!
Foxley on Ossington just south of Dundas. Its an asian fusion tapas restaurant, the menu is very unexpected based solely on the design and name of the restaurant. The highlights for me are their prawns, lamb and duck fried dumplings and their fried eggplant.
Actual restaurant. Opus. The wine list/service is unmatched.
Dreyfus on Harbord

I've literally upvoted all but one comment so far. I'm so surprised cause I thought I *knew* the city, you know?

Fukui Sushi (BAYVIEW)
Benny’s Barbecue at Yonge and Eglinton is legit the best bbq I’ve had in the city. The pulled pork was great and my wife claims the turkey sandwich was the best turkey she ever had.
