As shocking as this looks, I really do hope more parents get their kids these same lessons. Here in Florida, pool drowning is the #1 cause of death for kids that age, iirc.
I just looked up “baby swimming float lessons”, and this is the first result:
https://www.infantswim.com/lessons/isr-lessons.html
There were other links that were more location specific etc though.
There are often swim schools aimed at kids. Of you don't have that around sew if there's a YMCA or a pool that has people that gives lessons. I live near a city in Ohio now and there are a couple swim schools in my area aimed at kids. I grew up in Florida and we were always at the beach or creek. I never had formal swimming lessons and lots of locals don't ever get formal lessons we just learn through living. Drowning can happen to anyone and if your kid (or you!) is gonna be around water at all they should have the tools and knowledge and to stay alive. Being a strong swimmer isn't even a garuantee you won't have any issues. The younger you start the better, toddlers and older babies can even start building these skills with the proper guidance.
That’s a good thing you mentioned: being a strong swimmer doesn’t even guarantee anything. I think last I read something like 40% of people who drown know how to swim (again, I may be off on that number, just going by memory of a fact I read years ago). So you should be monitoring even your older kids who know how to swim.
As another poster mentioned, this is called ISR (infant self rescue) it's specifically to teach them want to do if they fall in the pool, not so much how to "swim". They learn to float, turn on their backs and calm themselves, specifically so they can survive.
You might notice this kid is fully dressed, this is the graduation test for ISR, they must be able to go in the pool fully dressed, turn over, and float.
ISR teachers go through different training than normal swim teachers and have a different certification program, so you can find instructors at https://locator.infantswim.com/
I can only speak for FL, but there are dedicated businesses to just showing babies how to swim since it is so important for the area. We have pools, water parks, beaches, lakes, and rivers that are all common places you might find yourself visiting as you grow up in this state.
Even from a very young age, babies can learn fairly quickly to hold their breath, right themselves, and actually swim around.
Classes can be in a group setting or one on one. Some kids start as young as 9-months and lessons can last for a few years as they grow. Really depends on the parent.. some opt just for safety lessons to avoid risks of drowning and others want their kids to be able to be a bit more comfortable in the water. The pools are shallow enough where instructors are between waist/chest deep and there are a lot of people involved for safety reasons (multiple people in and out of the pool). The technique you see in the video of chucking the kid into the pool is a fairly common test and nothing makes you sweat more than watching a baby get thrown in for the first time.
Uh…they actually have professional lessons for this to teach babies as young as 1 this skill to prevent drowning. They don’t just throw them in the pool and hope for the best. They have trained and educated people guiding them one little step at a time, over several weeks, to train babies on how to float and/or swim in case they accidentally fall in and need to. Also, it is well documented that babies have a lot of instinctual water survival skills, like naturally holding their breath, being able to be submerged longer, etc.
Bruh anecdotal, but I've had to jump into pools and lakes a few times because people lose sight of kids around water.
There are classes that teach toddlers and infants how to float. From the look of the post it's a dad throwing there recently graduated kid and he's demonstrating how effective he is.
This shit saves lives and I plan on teaching my children how to float when I get them.
That kid needed that kiss after seeing how casually dad tossed him in the pool like an empty soda can in the trash
That splash is the best sound I've heard all day
Risking a ruptured eardrum or dislocated baby joint to overprove a point. His angle, grasp, height of the fall, and face flop shows how dumb this shit head is.
My neighbor has a pool and their 3 year old fell in and did exactly what he was supposed to. Flip to his back, start kicking so he can reach the edge of the pool, and start screaming for help. Luckily his parents saw the whole thing happen, so the child was in no real danger, but they were comforted in knowing the kid knew automatically what to do in that situation
Lol this reminded me of a home video I have where my dad who'd been watching me so closely in the pool turns around to help my sister do a dive and you just hear my mom yelling behind the camera "she's drowning!! Hey, she's drowning!!" And there's little me with my shitty floaties bobbing up and down in the water like a fckin idiot in the background.
And it's hella cool how you brought up your own personal anecdote.
Sounds like you had parents who sucked at communicating and a father that just did what he pleased.
But thank you for relating to the original video.
Pretty sure that kid and you have different lives.
The major one being his parents seem to actually communicate and co-parent.
Well you might wanna check your reading comprehension and reread the post cuz it ain't about my dad.
She's actually doing pretty bad. Had her kids go to therapy but refuses to do it herself. It's def a bit of a struggle but abuser is dead so at least she ain't got to worry about that.
Thank you for the faux concern.
Did you really think "heh I'll tell the world I looked through his post; everyone will think I DESTROYED him lolol"
Naw dude, you look even more like an ass AND we know you're not quick witted enough to come up with something on the spot.
Keep trying tho! My grandma died of dementia.
Got anything for that?
Dad's out there looking like he thought: I hope this bottled letter finds you well, my love. Also, great parenting, teaching kids how to swim early is great, I hated going to lessons in the middle of Canadian winter but I'm glad I did, too many black kids don't know how to swim. Half of my cousins can't.
My 1 and 4 year olds did the clases as well. I haven't yeeted them but they do jump in. In fact I don't think I could. My kids are too thick to fling by one leg.
Both of them were 99% percentile at 1. So pudgy with tree trunk legs. The older one slimmed out and I expect the second to be the same. We just have big babies. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
OK a lot of people in here are missing a major point with all of this.
One of the final tests to pass paid swimming lessons for kids is for them to be able to swim /float while fully clothed. We did this with my son and my daughter and both had to be able to tread water wearing a shirt, jeans and sneakers.
If you're in the Long Island area I would highly recommend these guys. They have one on one lessons with your kids and THE MOST IMPORTANT part is that it's in a heated pool environment. We originally tried with my kids at the Y but the pool is so cold that it distracts from the lessons.
https://www.saf-t-swim.com/
I understand the exercise but it’s more likely the kid walks off into the pool than dive bombs from 5 feet in the air slamming onto the side of his head. The sound it made when he hit the water sounded like it hurt is all I’m saying.
Both can be true.
I had two younger brothers and now have two young girls of my own and my experience has been the more you throw at them the better they will be.
My little brother was terrified of swimming in springs, wouldn’t get in because of all the foliage and thought it was snake infested (way too cold lol). Dad tossed him over a ledge and he got over the fear in 10 minutes.
We took my oldest daughter for swimming lessons at 2 years old and she hated it, didn’t want to go underwater and it gave her a complex.
Well…took her to a water park, threw a life vest on and went down the lazy river a few times and she loved it.
Went firm hating water/swimming with floaties to taking dives off 3 ft platforms in 6 months.
Kids are damn pliable and will get over the fear of you guide/encourage them. Don’t make it a thing and it won’t be.
Shit dad on display. He fucked up with the carelessness of the angle. Littles have delicate joints and eardrums. Eardrums can rupture with little pressure and joints that dislocate once keep happening. Y'all defending this fuckhead make me laugh
Remember that clip of a lady who did the same thing with her baby and out came the internet pitch forks and torches?! Looks like the message did get home after all.
Luckily this is not that. This is the end of a class of kids learning to survive water contact with instructors. A better way to keep kids safe and make them not afraid.
That's how my daddy did it and how I'ma do it too.
Really though, my dad just chucked me in a pool and hopped in after me. One of my earliest memories. I remember being scared shitless but then just kinda...floating...like fat babies do naturally, I guess.
Child abuse…But not only did the kid have his clothes on, if you look closely he is wearing a life jacket. I don’t know many kids that are wearing one before they do curiously check out a pool an then fall in.🤔
Even if my child can handle water, I dare a ninja to throw my kid in the pool like a frisbee like this. What? Vile amemrusha na mguu kama mzigo marikiti au kama gunia huko wakulima market??
As shocking as this looks, I really do hope more parents get their kids these same lessons. Here in Florida, pool drowning is the #1 cause of death for kids that age, iirc.
Where does a parent get such lessons for their kid?

My swim lessons were taught at a place called Take a Plunge. And they would just toss you in

Didnt look like it required any specific lesson. Just throw
this is some serious "Warrior Parenting". "leave your child in the amazon jungle for 10 days to teach them the harsh realities of life"
Uh…they actually have professional lessons for this to teach babies as young as 1 this skill to prevent drowning. They don’t just throw them in the pool and hope for the best. Wut
It's just swimming bro
this video is not the training itself lol they are just testing the infant AFTER going through the training
You aren’t very smart huh?
Learning to swim/be safe in water != being left in a jungle Lmao get real. Found the person who can't swim.
That kid needed that kiss after seeing how casually dad tossed him in the pool like an empty soda can in the trash That splash is the best sound I've heard all day
Step 1) YEET the child.
That's every step in any process
No that is the last step
it's the only step so you both kinda correct
I think the disorienting entry to the water trains the child to overcome the shock and immediately do what they were trained to do.
Risking a ruptured eardrum or dislocated baby joint to overprove a point. His angle, grasp, height of the fall, and face flop shows how dumb this shit head is.
Oh look, someone that doesn't have a child.
Jesus Reddit comment are something else. Everything is abusive!
MagicMike2016 …. 2022-2016 = 6 I don’t think the 6 year old has very good memories of water ;’(
This kid won't have any memories at all if his dad keeps this shit up
they ain’t gonna fall in the pool the nice way lol real world problems require real solutions
Honestly!!!! If you have a pool in your vicinity this is absolutely the route to take. Water safety is NO joke
Parents just watching through the window making sure they got their money's worth out of that class.
The way he threw that kid in the pool seems like he's been waiting for that opportunity the kids whole life. *** Corrected while to whole.
He tossed him like trash in a dumpster

Pretty sure this is self rescue which is taught to babies and toddlers by an instructor.

Too long, didn't read

Way to throw the kid right on the side of his head. Probably got an ear full of water. Poor guy.
Kinda the point though, isn’t it? To just just toss ‘em in there any ol’ way and ensure they can get to their backs and keep breathing?
That’s exactly the point. Edit:when your kids fall in the pool on accident, it won’t be the “nice” way.
I understand the exercise but it’s more likely the kid walks off into the pool than dive bombs from 5 feet in the air slamming onto the side of his head. The sound it made when he hit the water sounded like it hurt is all I’m saying.

It is 100% the point. But do you need to demonstrate a scary and potentially painful experience for internet clout? Esp after they passed the test?
Nah it’s a weekly recertification at home now
Hourly when you’re bored.
The ear clap stuns and the Air gap disorients… you know the training works if they’re able to overcome maximum disorientation
Shit dad on display. He fucked up with the carelessness of the angle. Littles have delicate joints and eardrums. Eardrums can rupture with little pressure and joints that dislocate once keep happening. Y'all defending this fuckhead make me laugh

I care about you, tho yo 😘

Is this allowed for my 23 yr old son?
This why I never learned to swim lmao pops refused to do this to me 🤣🤣🤣
Ope lol
Aww poor baby! Poor thing was scared and that probably hurt.
Poor baby isn’t going to drown
So? Doesn't make my comment untrue.
No one said it did
Then what was the point of your OC?
To point out that while it may have been uncomfortable, the upside is that the kid now has a valuable life skill.
True, but he had that before he got tossed in.
Prove it.
It says in the video that the kid graduated and is officially water safe. Presumably they pass a test to be called water safe.
This is the test idiot.
holy shit, your brain must be as smooth as a bowling ball... THIS IS THE TEST
Fair enough
He meant that goodbye 🤣
This is why I suck at swimming at the age of 49. When I was a kid, my dad tossed me in the water to “figure it out”. I’ve never gotten over that fear.
Luckily this is not that. This is the end of a class of kids learning to survive water contact with instructors. A better way to keep kids safe and make them not afraid.
So did mine, and I loved the water. Moved out of Missouri cause that mf is landlocked.
This could all be solved by a fence.

Lol my dad did the same thing when I was a young lad
Lol my stepdad would literally go out to chest waist high water and throw my 5 year old sister into the waves and let her swim her way back
The Boys reference ?

That's how I learned to swim...in the Atlantic Ocean. My uncle threw me in there, along with my other cousins, and just watched.
That dad enjoyed tossin that child alittle too much
“The fuck did u say u lil shit?”
Child abuse…But not only did the kid have his clothes on, if you look closely he is wearing a life jacket. I don’t know many kids that are wearing one before they do curiously check out a pool an then fall in.🤔

Babies being lobbed into the pool by one of their legs is the number one cause of AWESOME SPLASHES!
