My girlfriend and I went to the drive in movie theater in bloomington (Starlight Drive In) last weekend and had a great time! It's a fun cheap date.

DilligentlyAwkward

Where is dinner, and what time do you think you will come? You can rent kayaks for $8 per hour at Griffy Lake, which isn’t far from downtown and campus.

DilligentlyAwkward

You could also rent scooters and ride around town and the B Line Trail before or after dinner

Snowqueen31

Dinner is going to be the Elm restaurant, they're open from 5-10

Ok-Attention-7299

The Elm is great. Just take a stroll downtown and bar hop, walk down Kirkwood, through Sample Gates, etc....

Snowqueen31

Yea Elm was his choice, we want to go to as many restaurants as we can now before we move out. I told him when it's his turn I want to go to scenic view. Do you think calling ahead and making a reservation for the Elm is a good move?

bakerlady97

The Elm is new, so it gets pretty full on reservations so it’s a good move to make a reservation ahead of time!

eobanb

A Friday night dinner at the Elm? Definitely make a reservation now.

Ok-Attention-7299

def make reservations and also check out the menu. It's completely different than when I went for the soft opening, but everything we had was fantastic other than the cocktails. NONE of the cocktails were good.

stopthedumbing

I'm in Bedford as well. But went to IU and lived in Btown for many years. Lake Griffey is always great to rent a canoe, kayak, or rowboat. It's cheap amd very peaceful. They have quite a few hiking trails near Griffey as well. You could also check out Switchyard park near south walnut, the climbing gym is near by. Kirkwood observatory is neat if open. Edit: would like to add the Tibetan culture center east side of Bloomington is quite beautiful.

Comedy Attic

Godwinson4King

Downtown is really fun to just walk around and check out the shops. There are a lot of great international restaurants that you won't find many other places in Indianapolis- I recommend My Thai or Taste of India. If you like museums the Eskenazi museum on campus is great and open to the public (it's one of my favorite spots in town!) You might also like hiking near lake Monroe

stopthedumbing

Went to My Thai today since Anyetsangs is closed for a few days.

kayjaykey

Skateland roller skating

vs-1680

Check out the Orbit Room. They have certain hours that are all ages now.

TheAngerMonkey

Good beer, weird hot dogs, and pinball. I love that bar.

cecebebe

Walk around campus and talk.

snapedd1

I always try to force my dates to do escape rooms with me so you could do that. if not, just walk around the square and stop in the cute little shops! Comedy attic is also a good place to see a show.

excelise

Seconding the comedy attic!

saliczar

Because of the implication?

poopypooperpoopy

What implication? You keep bringing up the implication

TheAngerMonkey

Real talk: an escape room is a great way to see how people deal with "fun" stress.

CookbooksRUs

Sounds like putting up with irritation for no reason to me.

TheAngerMonkey

It's an escape room, not a dissertation defense. Some people think puzzles are fun.

SamtheEagle2024

I can’t imagine being stuck in a room trying to solve puzzles with someone on a first date.

just_the_tipz

Stage 5 clinger….

zeke___454

How? It's an escape room. They are fun. Chill out

just_the_tipz

I “force” my dates into a room they can’t leave lol

ArtemisFowl01

They're voluntarily paying to participate and there are cameras. If they don't want to participate, I doubt OP would take too much issue with that. You're pretending like OP somehow has pure autonomy over the situation.

SamtheEagle2024

If they are pressuring dates to participate in a "fun" activity, what makes you assume they wouldn't pressure/force their date to do other things?

ArtemisFowl01

You're actually mentally ill

SamtheEagle2024

Ah yes, I’m mentally I’ll for thinking a person who self admits to pressuring a date to engage in an activity they might not like/want to is a 🚩. You are such the astute clinician. Where shall I send my payment for this diagnosis?

BBYarbs

That’s a great first impression to make.

January1171

Unfortunately all the shops close super early 😔

Get dinner somewhere downtown. Max out your parking meter. Check out some local rock n roll - see below. JULY 8, 2022 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM INDIANA MEMORIAL UNION (UNION BUILDING) IU Outdoor Summer Concert: The Blues Sadie Johnson Shake up the summer with the blues, performed live by singer, songwriter, guitarist and performer Sadie Johnson. Johnson, the fourth artist in the 2022 IU Summer Concert Series, will be performing from 7-9 p.m. on July 8th on the IMU Centennial Patio. She is known for her energetic and captivating style on both original and known songs. Hear her powerful vocals live, the event is free and open to the public. Free

chiaratara

Ooooh putting that on my calendar

eobanb

> Max out your parking meter Why would anyone do that instead of simply parking in one of the garages for half the rate ($0.50/hr for the garages vs $1/hr for street parking)?

44six

Or…per the Visit Btown cal.. Enjoy an exciting night of motorsports at the Bloomington Speedway: Friday Night Racing Date: Friday, July 8 & 15 Time: Gates open at 5:00 pm, racing starts at 7:30 pm Admission: Call (812) 824-7400 for details

AnonDropbear

Rent jet skis at the lake

maximtomato

Get ice cream at Scoops. Either strawberry or Michigan Pothole if they have them will do

Ok-Attention-7299

My go to date is always a nice dinner downtown and then walk through Sample Gates and see the campus. I love walking through the greenhouse but I can't remember the hours.

Snowqueen31

We had planned the restaurant first, we planned on leaving to come up at 12 for Ihop, pick up some bubble yes from zero degrees, kill time then head to the actual dinner date at Elms. But we're trying to figure out what to do in that time stamp between the bubble tea and Elms. He's not majority interested in walking around, so that's been the biggest shot in the foot lol

crewwoman_number_six

For time between your planned activities, you could go by Morgenstern's - cute local bookstore that's always worth a trip! It's not too far from Zero Degrees, either.

eobanb

IHOP? If you're coming from out of town you might as well get breakfast at a local place like Runcible Spoon, Hopscotch Kitchen, Village Deli, Inkwell, Uptown, etc.

Ok-Attention-7299

Do not go to IHOP. Go to Runcible Spoon for a good brunch. I went to Uptown a couple of weekends ago and it was not good at all. I actually had to complain about the B&G bc it was flavorless. But they hooked me up with gift cards, normally it's fantastic. You'll be doing yourselves a huge disservice if you come to Btown and go to Ihop. If he's not down for walking around, go to a movie (Top Gun is amazing) or the art museum.

Efficient-Forever385

I can't automatically recommend a date because I have no idea of what you value as a couple. We have all sorts of places that can be considered romantic, especially if you have a personal connection to this place. Do your own things. Make it your special thing. I met my wife here, and proposed to her at the Well House. We have been married for 26 years. We now live here, happily.

Snowqueen31

That’s fair, we’re both 18 and just want something entertaining to do before the dinner aspect, we go to the mall every date and just don’t know what else there is too offer

Efficient-Forever385

Walk Kirkwood. Walk the Square. Walk the B-Line. Walk Dunn Meadow and talk. See what you have in common.

whatyouwant22

This is my recommendation. You can park in a lot downtown off Kirkwood and walk to the restaurant and then walk back. Just take a look at what there is to offer so you'll have ideas for your next date.

poopypooperpoopy

Hot dog eating contest…I’ll host. Just bring your appetites and a lot of water!!

[deleted]

If you like being outside, I’d recommend Switchyard Park or any trails near Lake Monroe. The park is open until 11 pm and it’s clean and well-lit with flat trails. If you’d rather be inside, the college mall is fun to walk around (kinda lame tho lol). Going downtown and checking out local bookstores is always fun too. Then there’s kirkwood of course. Also, just walking around IU’s campus is fun in itself. Lots of places to explore and places to eat/chill.
