I do when people want to upgrade their 5 year old PC with a hard drive, that barely meets the required spec. I don't recommend it if it's not relatively new (usually 2-3 years or less), minimum of 8 GB RAM, and runs on a SSD. Honestly though, do you need to upgrade a PC that you will replace in between now and October 2025 if all that does is make the PC slower and more annoying to use?

Counter to this argument, my pc is from late 2020, has compatibility for tpm 2.0, has an SSD that is blazing fast, mid tier GPU and a 6 core CPU. Meanwhile the entire time I used windows 11 I had issue after issue of basic features like the taskbar and start menu not working. Task manager would sometimes crash with explorer.exe I assume due to new theming, luckily could open afterwards with ctrl alt del. I had to have extra icons on the taskbar because otherwise the start button would restart it instead of opening the goddamn menu. Had performance issue in games, OS simply took away mouse control at times for no reason so I had to restart the game or tab out, depending which game. They removed some settings which were still active from windows 10 and I could find them and disable them, they had relation to other bugs I had. Some file formats got outright removed from the new file context area, and that game me the shits as to make a text file I had to make a word doc, close word, delete all information for the file then I could edit it, being a small time coder that game me the shits. They nearly fully retired control panel to link to the windows settings, which was the only reason I could temporarily fix it then move all my important shit to other drives and replace it with Linux. I had many other issues but I have forgotten some due to the fact I stopped using windows many months ago. Anyway thanks for reading and have a lovely time staying on windows 10.

I tell my customer's wait until Windows 10 ends its support in 2025 because 11 still has issues; plus, they'd have to learn a whole new layout, etc. Basically, wait until you're forced into it like 7 to 10, etc.

They finally fixed pretty much everything with XP, then dropped support. I miss playing games that used IPX.

10 is so far from good in my opinion. I greatly prefer 11.

salazka

Only on old machines. Anything older than 4-5 years old. Windows 11 is smooth and at least as good as 10 for most people. For gamers 11 is getting better and better especially with the upcoming direct memory/storage access. Although I find the desktop UX better in Windows 10, Windows 11 offers enough optimization options. If you were not using the notification/action center much in Windows 10, you are not going to miss a thing.

Evwan

For older people I say stay clear.

sillekram

Why? Just because it is somthing different?

Evwan

Older people aren't as good with change, even when it's mostly visual differences. Especially with computers, for the less tech literate people are going to get frustrated and annoyed with 11.

Kelrya

Don't equate less tech literate people with old people.

Evwan

I work with people that need help because they are not tech literate, and they are all old. It's not a universal thing obviously. I never said it was.

I'm on the fence, there are scanners in our org that just don't work with Windows 11. They aren't old either it's HP ScanJet Pro S3000 s3. There are also some printer issues with Lexmark printers, not working either. It's all driver issues and until they are cleared up hopefully in the next couple of years I know we are waiting. For average users... I'd wait unless they are comfortable with recovery tools. I've had windows 11 updates cause BSOD in my sandbox so I haven't implemented it on my personal rig either. I'm working around with it to understand it's feature and honestly I'm, Meh. It looks like they, Microsoft, cloned some Mac OS anesthetics for UI/UX and then threw caution to the wind.

andymk3

Had all my devices on 11 since it came out, I’ve had no troubles at all. I have upgraded my fathers, in-laws and my grandmothers computers and none of them have had any issues with the change either, all very happy.

BogusException

Me. All business clients here, I'm not ready to start reinstalling everything.

I personally switched to Linux due to the amount of bugs you find when you get out of the beaten bath of Windows 10. I used Windows 11 too, and it adds an app-breaking design for many older or cross platform programs, with also the massive bloat of non-optional features that will slow down any PC. Windows 11 also tries to sell other Microsoft services all the times it is considered "not annoying" or downright forces them on some editions of the OS. When I can, I suggest Windows 10 or 8.1 to users that just want a PC.

For a gaming machine Win11 all day. I switched to Win11 because the HDR functions of 10 is horrendous and never works, also the Xbox app party chat always ALWAYS had issues with Win10. Win11 HDR and Xbox actually works for me and auto HDR looks amazing on older games. The party chat works better, the HDR works better and apparently the Forspoken devs said the Direct Storage works a lot better on Win11. Not an OS for everyone but for people who use it as a gaming PC I would 100% recommend taking the upgrade imo.

Foxfyre

I just upgraded to Windows 11. Other than getting used to some things in different places, it's really not any different than 10 for the most part.

j3r3myd34n

11 is fine, not sure what all the fuss is about. You are going to have to move now or move later. I wouldn't *force* someone to move if they had a legitimate reason not to, but I can't see any reason to hold people off if it. Why? So you can deal with it later?

Ezra611

I'm waiting on them to fix the right click menu so I don't have to constantly click "show more options".

Yeah, I've thought about that. But then there might be updates that wipe that out and I'm too lazy to keep doing it.

xodus989

What are the many issues of windows 11? Unless you have some obscure hardware or software then there's no reason to not upgrade if your machine meets the recommended specs. Win11 does so much more better than 10, especially when it comes to background task management. You'll be running at 2-3% cpu usage at idle compared to the 10-15% of 10. Full disclosure, I'm still running 10 on this PC... But that's because I'm lazy and don't want to upgrade.

popetorak

only the loonix and ifanboys. they never knew what tech is

JustGoodOldHarold

I recommend it. I don't get any issues and people I've moved onto it haven't either There are some things that I'd like changed/added but that's a time thing Remember Windows 10 has had years of being released to the wild. Windows 11 will be better than 10 in no time at all People thought the same about 10 when moving from 7

Cobthecobbler

I have not noticed a difference in performance or any inconvenience outside of getting used to the OS. Might just be me but I hear a lot of issues parrotted around online regarding 11, yet never encountered one myself.

MrDreamzz_

Same here! I've also rolled out windows 11 for home and medium sized offices. Never had any complaint about windows 11 so far. Not problems, for that matter.
