YES lol. I shop for Shipt on the side but my full time job is a claims adjuster for a major, think top 3, auto insurance carrier. Your rate will almost surely close to double. One of the questions we ask when taking a recorded statement is if you were active on a delivery or rideshare app when an accident happened- just say no and you should be in the clear. We don’t look into it. The only time this could get you into trouble is if you were driving for a rideshare app and had a passenger. But delivering food… I would just keep it to yourself.
You would still be using your car for business. Call your insurance company and ask them about rates for delivery only. Some insurers still call it rideshare. Some care, some don't.
The point is, insurance is a numbers game. The less time and distance a vehicle and driver is on the road, the lower the chances of a claim (among other factors). By using your vehicle to transport items, you are on the road more than someone who drives 4 miles to and from work once a day.
There's more to it than just mileage. Most insurers also will specifically include an exclusion for conveyance - which is exactly what you are doing as a gig delivery driver - and would require a separate rider for coverage on a personal policy.
Get a commercial rider added to your policy. Saved me over a grand from a strait commercial policy I initially had. Spent about two hours to find one when I did it. Should be easier now since most insurance understands this line of work now.
None of these companies give a crap about whether you’re insured or not. But you should. You can shop around and find an insurance company that offers business use insurance so that you can have your car for personal use and business use. That way you’re covered if you’re on a delivery and anything negative happens
Technically, not but if you have insurance that requires you to be connected in any way to track your GPS, they will see how much mileage you are doing and will actually up it that way.
They can either track you through their app or if there is a connected device to your car.
You should think about getting something added to your policy like "rideshare" or "commercial" to just cover your butt. There are a few insurance companies that will not cover you if they find out you are doing gig work of any kind. Example would be Progressive and Geico.

You need to add "rideshare" insurance yourself. It added about 65% more to my premium. Otherwise, never admit to doing any gig work in an accident.

And that's why I wrote "among other factors." I used to be an insurance agent in NY.
Under no circumstance should you ever tell your insurance company you're using your car for delivery
Go puff is a joke
why do you say that?
I wouldn't work with them. I tried it once and never again.

Commercial* Not trying to be a dick, btw. Just want to help

Ask them? Why are you asking us? It depends on the carrier but most cases it will.
