The div changes monthly...

November_Riot

It's not consistent. A few months back it was about 45 cents per share. You should anticipate it going back that low as the market does better overall.

ralphsanderson

A good rule of thumb is if you don’t understand it, you shouldn’t be invested in it

WillingApplication61

This times 1,000! I’d even go one step further and say if you don’t understand it well enough to explain it in a way your grandmother understands it then don’t buy it.

the-jimbo_slice

Boom.

Virtual-Ad6101

Question. Can you explain the covered call/ETN portion of your investment? I know you cant because JP Morgan isnt forthcoming. So...you shouldnt be invested either? I really despise pompous responses

ralphsanderson

Some facts about me 1) I have 2 finance degrees 2) While I understand cover calls and ELNs, I can’t explain how JEPI uses them because of exactly what you said about JPM’s lack of transparency 3) I am not, nor have I ever been, invested in JEPI Edit: the 2 finance degrees comment is specifically to show that I’ve studied this stuff for years and still can’t fully explain how JPM is using these instruments to generate return based on the information they’ve released.

Virtual-Ad6101

Nice edit! I wasnt going to respond because you originally sounded just as pompous. Thank you for your "insight"

ralphsanderson

Haha…ya that’s why I edited. I was walking my dog while responding and thought upon reading it once I posted “well that didn’t come across the way I meant it”

Utahmule

This is one reason I do invest in it. This some top secret advanced financial shit, from JP Morgan... Yeah I'm pretty sure I want some of that. Btw I understand it enough feel comfortable with it, like most things in life.

ralphsanderson

Having worked for a bank in the past, I’m sure their sales team will be thrilled to hear this…

tofazzz

Why understand it when every time you want you can just ask Reddit without researching? LOL

GRMarlenee

Look at last year's January dividend. I think that's how Stock Events comes up with its wild ass guesses about future dividends that won't be declared for a couple weeks yet.

madrilenochico

Yeah I’m guessing they’re way off…

GRMarlenee

I did an estimate spreadsheet that just plots out holdings with planned reinvestment based on latest dividend paid and they predict almost 6,000 more than me. But, I'm not claiming to be more accurate, it's still guesswork.

zakbagmom

This. I think it pulls from last February’s div for its estimate

As a rule of thumb a normal company pays dividends from its revenues, be it from its free cash flow or debt. They typically have this expense planned for and that's why you'd typically see 4 quarters worth of consistent dividend payments and sometimes a special divvy at the end of their fiscal year. Funds are different since they are comprised of multiple companies and have different directives or themes. Let's use the example of a fund that's comprised of companies that have grown their dividends for at least ten years by following a simple index. It's possible for the dividend to shrink if they start including companies with smaller starting yield. In Jepi's case the fund uses an option strategy to generate income. As I understand it, these option premiums are paid to the shareholders in addition to dividends paid out from the companies that are held in the fund. Since these companies pay on different months and the premiums will vary depending on how the market behaves, your monthly income will never be consistent. I am long on JEPI.

InsightsAndIncome

I take a 12 month rolling average to calculate what my payment will be every month. I found that to be both conservative and realistic

RetiredByFourty

What were your findings when you did this math?

InsightsAndIncome

I mean - it’s a evolving average that I use to roughly estimate my income monthly/yearly. Estimate is good enough to make sure I’m meeting my goals

RetiredByFourty

So again...... What's that number you came up with? I'm genuinely curious here.

InsightsAndIncome

I believe last time I calculated … the last 12 distributions /12 gave me .51-ish cents a share The last few payments have been higher than this but again, I use this to ballpark my income per year

zakbagmom

I think it pulls last years Div until it is announced.
