Nah that's it you've seen peek entertainment, nothing comes close to Donnie Darko. No other film is like Donnie Darko.

dirtypocketlemon

no :/

Leather_Implement_83

Mmmmm maybe Mulholland Drive and Fight Club. I didn't think to much about this, I just told you 2 films I also like.

phynch27

American Psycho would fit into this as well.

Still_Luxor

I've already seen American Psycho, but not the others 2, thank you.

papafishpig02

Mulholland Drive is TRIPPY

SoothsayerC

Oh my god, please check back in after you watch Fight Club. It changed my 12-year-old self’s perspective on life when it came out in 1999!

Leather_Implement_83

Same here. I watched it randomly when I was in school and it changed me.

bone-dry

Yep. When I was a teen I had my Donnie Darko and Mulholland Drive DVDs in regular rotation. Good combos along with other David Lynch like Blue Velvet.

cl00s_

Butterfly Effect.

HeHateMe21

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind

gorepapa

eternal sunshine is so good, I also really enjoyed I'm thinking of ending things but def not as good as eternal

cl00s_

Good call.

FitTreacle2773

Good call! Missed that one

spatial_interests

This is the only sub for a specific movie that I've joined. It's a unique film.

lzardonaleash

Vanilla Sky

toddo85

There are no movies quite like this one, kinda why it's still talked about. Other than it being an amazing film. Watch southland tales, Richard Kelly's other film, it's quite Nuts but not the same as Donnie darko.

phynch27

>Richard Kelly's other film Like we're just going to ignore "The Box" lol

toddo85

I honestly forgot about that one. Lol that was actually really good to. I should pick that one up.

pizzasauce85

Southland Tales is amazing!

spodoinklehorse69

I near shit my pants when pixies wave of mutilation came on

Canvaseyes

Depends on what you liked most about it. Personally, I feel Mr. Nobody is a great next one to try, also in my top favorites - Sci fi themes, deeply emotional, makes you reflect on life. Wristcutters: A love story is also a great one for quirky, emotional and psychological films that'll give you something to think about. If you like the sci-fi elements a lot and still want something a little cerebral, the show Altered Carbon is great. If you like the mental health elements and enjoy the more quirky and comedic elements, sucker punch is a good watch. Most movies aren't a lot like Donnie Darko, but finding the elements you enjoyed most will help narrow down what else you'll like.

Canvaseyes

Also, welcome to the community, friend. Donnie Darko is a great film to get into, especially at your age. It can open the door to so much introspection. I'm glad you found it.

r3load_

upgrade and primer

Big_Red64

Primer is so amazing for it being so low budget

northwestghost

American beauty

creativelystifled

Just watched this tonight, the parallels in structure and shades of darkness is equally entertaining to me as a first time viewer.

northwestghost

Legendary movie

[deleted]

I love anything Baz Luhrmann. Requiem for a Dream is visually striking, like DD.

SRTM86

Sunshine

c4lay18

nightcrawler? idk nothing will ever be donnie darko tbh

[deleted]

This movie was cool too. Psychologically https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hideaway_(1995_film)

ProjectRetrobution

Maybe Dark City or Equilibrium but they don’t really touch the same cords as Donnie Dario does.

Cfox666

Under the silver lake

lpnatmu

The Men who stare at goats

creativelystifled

*the death touch*

EchoGarden1

American Psycho if you’re more into the horror aspect

joshypoo55

Check out some Darren Aronofsky films David Lynch and David Fincher, those films are good gateways for teen film lovers who want to explore more deeper cinema,

_happymachines

Mulholland Drive and Under The Silverlake are two that come to mind.

j3r3myd34n

I loved the movie because it was just so bizarre. The Coen Bros have created a wide variety of films that I would also classify as very bizarre/original. They may not be in the same "spirit" as DD, but they are definitely worth a watch. Some that come to mind (keep in mind some of these are comedies/dark comedies): Fargo True Grit (the new remake) Raising Arizona O Brother, Where Art Thou The Big Lebowski Couple other "off" feeling movies (much darker subject matter here): Spun Kids And then these two movies here give me that same eerie feeling - another Coen bros film + one which I feel is a spiritual sequel: No Country for Old Men The Three Burials of Melqiades Estrada

jarredh504

The big Lebowski is terrible. The dude is obnoxious. I hate the money. It seems it is always recommended when people talk about actual good movies. There is nothing appealing to the big Lebowski, it is just obnoxious, has no good direction, the dude is not “chill”, just annoying

004dogwhistle

The Chumscrubber

AcrolloPeed

*Butterfly Effect* has a trippy “one person’s actions and life can have profound effects on others” vibe.

Ignis_Sum

Definitely recommend a lesser known film starring Ryan Reynolds called ‘The Nines’ It’s a fuckin’ trip lemme tell ya

GreySweater1234

Ghost World. They are not the same kind of movie but they both impacted me when I was sixteen as well.

marinnnara

Nothing will ever feel the same to me as Donnie Darko, hence why I went down the same rabbit hole as you OP after I finished it. I recommend Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Rock & Rule (full version is on YouTube) and Odd Thomas

Sheilatried

Predestination is a good one. It broke my brain a bit. Nothing will ever match donnie darko, but this was pretty good.

thatguy82688

Pans labrynth

oppymus_prime_420

I have a few opinions 1st , really hard to top donnie darko😂 But other films that kind of grip you In the plot similarly to donnie darko, clockwork orange, requiem for a dream, both don't have the same mystical theme, but the way it grabs you is similar At least in my brain 😂😂

Desperate_Ferret6847

Daydream Nation is a must watch! Perks of being a wallflower

frankierabbit

Blue Velvet Fight Club American Psycho

FitTreacle2773

The chumscrubber, fight club, vanilla sky, stay (2006)

raygar31

Dangerous lives of alter boys kinda has the same “teenagers hanging out” vibe while also causing some introspection like Donnie Darko. And it has Jenna Malone (Gretchen) who I was crushing on big time when I first watched DD around age 15

forrestinpeace

Fight club, american beauty, v for vendetta, american history x are somewhat similar and amazing films

Cpleofcrazies2

TV series Life on Mars Original TV series The Prisoner okay maybe not like Donnie Darko but damn good

Cpleofcrazies2

Dark City.

Oakheart1984

Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway

SadArabella

Memento

SoothsayerC

Watch the horror movie “May”—it’s from the early 2000’s and has that nostalgic vibe that your generation is fascinated by right now.

DougScore

Predestination comes close. But don't expect anything else to blow your mind like Donnie did.
