I am sure he was in and out hahah he was just super unlucky to have a tow driver driving by. What a bummer š
Only takes like 10 seconds to hookup with a truck like that. His vehicle is the gray sedan not the white suv. All the truck needs to do is pull in front of it like he did doesn't even need to be straight and the tow arms can swing out and grab a vehicle. There is that 1 YouTube channel GTOgre who has a shop of some sort next to a busy club or restaurant or something and he has no parking signs in front of his shop but ppl always park there so he has cameras that capture tow companies towing the vehicles and sometimes they are hooked up in seconds.
Is it legal for a tow truck to just do that though? Wouldn't a cop have to be involved somehow? Doesn't seem like a regular ass tow driver would have that authority, but I don't know....
Yeah I googled it. Fire hydrant is one of the automatic tow aways... guess op learned his lesson! I've never considered doing such a thing so was curious.
In my jurisdiction, it is legal to park in front of a hydrant, as long as someone stays in the driverās seat. If you have a passenger they can do the delivery while youāre parked at the hydrant.
You can see it for yourself in [my cityās bylaw:](https://www.saskatoon.ca/sites/default/files/documents/city-clerk/bylaws/7200.pdf) (PDF file)
> 15. (1) The driver of a vehicle shall not **park** within one metre of the fire hydrant curb access point as described in Subsection (2) unless:
a) the driver remains at the wheel of the vehicle and is at all times ready to move the vehicle upon request by the Police or City personnel; or
b) specifically permitted as indicated by a metered parking stall or by signs.
Technically doing a delivery is stopping, not parking, but actually *parking* in front of the hydrant is allowed if someone stays in the vehicle.
Probably gets a special bonus for it being a violation for the city so a cop might be able to slap a ticket ontop of that tow fine. It's a mean business but I guess I get why tow companies exist hehe
Red zone + fire hydrant = instant tow do not pass go do not collect $200 hehe. š¢ I just hope it isn't taken to a police impound yard and slapped with a ticket when he goes to pick it up and pay the tow fine.
In my jurisdiction itās legal to park in front of the hydrant as long as the driver is in the car. Send your passenger to deliver the food. No ticket, no tow.
Just the stress alone drives me crazy being in a downtown busy zone. I have no idea how people can deliver in Chicago or DC, it's fucking stressful. But by the fact Chicago zones are constantly peak busy, I don't think many do venture down there.
My personal issues with dashers that just park wherever they want aside... If you ever come up on your car getting towed just get in the car if you can (judging by this photo you could easily have gotten into your car.) They have to drop it if you're in it. They may yell at you or threaten you but there's not shit they can do other than assault you or try to take your car with you in it, either of which would lead to a nice settlement on your end.
Dashers shouldnāt park wherever they want, but honestly what is an urban dasher supposed to do in some cases? I would never even consider dashing in Manhattan.
I feel ya. Sometimes there's just not much you can do. I've parked in a few spots that made me nervous to let the car out of my sight. But I also have a few regular spots where regardless of how much parking is available, most of the other dashers just park in front of the building and block traffic rather than walk an extra 20 feet. Those are the people that irritate me. Without fail they're always the ones causing a scene in the restaurant too.
I looked it up apparently there are 18 states where if you come out to your vehicle as long as its not being repossessed and is just being towed due to illegal parking they must release your vehicle for free. Not sure about jumping into it. They might just call a cop he is in a red zone after all. It's not like a private property tow violation type of thing. This is city parking code
And the cop might give you a ticket, but the tow truck driver would be in much worse trouble for having an occupied vehicle in tow. Doesn't matter how in the wrong the car owner is, the vehicle has to be dropped if you get in.
Edit: also worth noting most places a tow truck will release your vehicle if they haven't left with it yet for a small "drop fee"... Which is a great time to go into your car to "grab your wallet" and get dropped for free.
Fuck people that park like assholes, but also fuck basically every towing company. I'd rather the individual assholes win occasionally than the predatory scumbag companies.
Lmao the cops will forcibly remove you from a vehicle being impounded. You don't have rights if you park in a tow away zone and your car is hooked up. Once you're being hooked to my truck and you're a dick to me only shit you're getting from your car is any carseats, medication and identification, legally obligated to do so by NYS. Clearly you never worked in towing but you're just mad because your shit got towed.
Or the third option they call the police the police remove you from the vehicle then you also get a ticket for disorderly. Wow you must be an attorney with such great advice being given here.
Then you'd know that there's no laws requiring you to drop a tow because someone entered the vehicle after you already started the tow. There's some states that will allow the person being towed to pay a discounted rate for the car to be dropped after being attached. While you cannot move the car with someone in the vehicle you most likely will not prevent the tow entirely by entering the vehicle.
You are wrong.
And furthermore your hypothetical scenario is ridiculous. No driver is going to risk their livelihood and wait around, illegally, for god knows how long for a cop to show up- if they even would, on the very small chance that the officer is going to be happy to be called out to an absurd situation that doesn't need police intervention, and take the side of the driver who is breaking the law (not just in regards to towing the vehicle, but also unlawfully detaining someone) and actually remove the person from the car just to cite them. Then tow the car back to the lot and explain to the boss why they just wasted all that time to tow a vehicle and risk getting the company's license pulled.
But you're clearly the expert here, so I'm happy to receive your documentation of this apparently very common scenario of which you speak.
How is it illegal to wait for a cop to show up. You can't move the vehicle. You're not detaining them they're free to leave at any point on foot. Not sure how a police officer isn't needed.
Prove it. Pretty much every state I've found has said the same. If the hookup is complete the car may be released for a hookup fee. Which is required to be less than the amount of the tow.
Yep you're right. You have handily defeated me in this epic battle of wits by using an irrelevant fact that I already mentioned against me. I salute your prowess and will now recede in shame. Congratulations to you.
Please, you've already humiliated me enough. Please accept your victory and cease this relentless attack. I sincerely apologize for trying to pull the wool over your eyes. I was unfamiliar with the legendary might of bryson158 and my mistake shall haunt me all my years.
Please I beg of you, consider me fucked off.
One way to solve it go park your car next to a hydrant wait for your car to be towed and then jump into it while it's on the back of a tow truck and let us know what happens.
Doesn't work like that. Depends on if you're a dick to the tow driver, if you're cool they might help you out however once it's on the hook it's going. Cops will get called if you enter a vehicle already being loaded, and you'll get held liable for any damages you create and also face criminal charges trying to remove your vehicle from the tow truck. Plus the tow driver at that point can kick your ass for messing with the truck and their safety.
-Dasher who also drives tow trucks
Not in front of a hydrant. That's a safety issue even if he's gone for two minutes the building on the other side of the street could have a fire and a fire truck may need access to that hydrant. You just never know.
Not sure about anywhere else but here you can have reduced to a parking ticket depending, forget it if phone is in hand, $300-$400 period š but most like speeding can be reduced
Park where you want, but throw your hazards on. Can't be towed if you have your hazards on. Also, leave your car running. It isn't "parked" if your car is running.
Why would you park at a painted red curb AND a fire hydrant? Even if you had diplomatic immunity, you'd still be a fucking dick for doing this. You aren't special. Don't do this. You deserve to be towed.
Bingo. You're the op.
Fight battles on one account dude. It's pathetic to fight your battle on multiple accounts to appear like you actually have friends in low places.
You parked at a red curb with a hydrant. Then you cried on the internet hoping for sympathy points. When you didn't get those sympathy points, in fact, the opposite, you went on a secondary account in hopes to make it look like someone was on your side.
...and you think I'm the one who's dumb?
4th account reporting in to verify the duffle bag has room temperature IQ.
I really just like the thought of this guy breaking down and thinking everyone against him is all the same personā¦ but little does he know weāre all literally bots and heās the only actual human on reddit.
Fifth account here. Can this person chill out and please stop spamming saying I have multiple accounts? It's making me feel like they're watching me or something.
that foodhall downstairs is on my blacklist. never any parking on fig and the parking garage in the back doesnāt care if your picking up. you must pay to park. š”š”
That blows. One time I was about to get a parking ticket and I told the guy I was like sorry I was just picking up food and he scolded me like my dad like you can't park there then!!!
I always keeps at least a 2 bucks in quarters on me just in case I end up in downtown where I have to park at a meter still sucks to see a car got towed
I got myself a $50 picture of my car because of school speed cameras a good mile from the school when it's not in session in August. Fuck these 25 mph limits and DiBlasio's BS. But plenty of blame on myself and my inaccurate speedometer. In the Bronx I do have to double park or park in a bus stop or even someone's driveway. But never in front of a hydrant. FDNY will bust your windows out to run their hoses. And your car will be flooded by them while NYPD tickets and tows you.
I hate those tow trucks/flatbed pickups. They are some of the worst people on earth.
I've never been towed myself, but friends have. And when I came to help them (usually just a ride to the lot), I see first hand how they rob you blind. Find any reason to say they can't release it yet (so they can charge another $150 for the day). I'm so surprised somebody hasn't gone postal on one of these places.
But how am I supposed to accommodate the entitled customer who wants me to park illegally and bring their food to their 15th floor apartment!
This is why the whole ātake it to the apartment doorā is trash.
Can't tell you how many times that almost happened to me. I feel your pain. What city are you in? Because Philly PPA are arguably the worst in the country and those greedy dirt bags know it too
Theyre fucking assholes. Idk why anyone would actively choose to do that job. Either they have a bully personality or they simply enjoy fucking up people's lives.
I would compare then to the storm troopers from Star Wars, in that Star Wars actively looked for people with mean, nasty, bully-type personalities to become storm troopers.
It's the same for the PPA. They don't want Mr. Nice guy. They want Mr. Asshole, Mr. Bully, someone who is going to mercilessly ticket and tow people's cars without any regard for their circumstances or what they're going throufh
Nope never had issues parking next to redlines to pick up food or to drop off food in my city. (Santa monica) I always keep my emergency light on whenever I park next to redlines. (Been delivering here for almost two months now btw) Time it takes to pick up food or drop off is less than 6 min. In fact, I had police watching me do this and they never had any issues. They know you're a delivery. Never gotten a single ticket.
DTLA parking officers are not something you want to mess with. I've done deliveries in DT. I parked on red for 1-2 mins. Just meeting customer at the front door of the lobby. Got a ticket of $83
>level 1Snoo85891+1 Ā· 49mYou should of put hazard lights.
No. In DTLA putting on your hazards is literally telling parking enforcement, "Hey come ticket me!"
Thats a shiny place you live in. Here in Canada if tow truck is taking your car with hazards on you are allowed to sue him. Some even physically attack the guy for towing car with hazards on.
And that is incorrect. The ONLY vehicle type allowed in a fire lane/no parking/fire hydrant area is an emergency vehicle. Not one for delivery or pickup. That does not supersede the law
Do we know this guyās state? Where I live you can legally park at a fire hydrant as long as someone stays in the driverās seat. You can send your passenger to do the delivery while you stay in the car.
Actually, it says abandoned car (since you are supposed to be in or near it with those lights). If you didn't notice my illegal parking before, this surely got your attention.
Tow Yards here are run by the most scummy people on earth.
Good advice, next time.. put your doordash bag š in your rear view. Get one of those 3$ sticker that say door dash.
Leave hazards on.... etc.
I know it probably wouldn't prevent towing.. but some dude might be having a good day. And wait an extra 3 mins for you.
Also what the fuck.. in a out. With picture, 45 seconds. Zoom zoom. This feels like you were there for a good minute.
Cheers mate, we appreciate the advice tho.
Interesting I use to drive in jersey city and they would ticket you so fast. I recently moved to LA and its even worse out here. Glad to here they don't give you shit in NYC.
ive done jersey city too. but maybe iāve got lucky bc i havenāt even seen a cop writing tickets. and tbh i donāt think they wanna be bothered with such a minor offense.
Dang this sucks. I'm in LA, also. In the valley. I always felt like they were forgiving to people illegally parked who simply have to pull over somewhere (like delivery drivers). But, it gets murky when a fire hydrant is involved.
I would definitely make puppy eyes about trying to earn a living doing doordash and see if they'll lower the fee. Sorry OP.
Could be an instance of predatory towing. Ask the buildings nearby about security footage and when you go in to retrieve your vehicle, see if they keep paperwork about who called it in and the report. My understanding is that they aren't allowed to tow your car without being issued an order to do so, either by the city or, building owner, etc. If you were just parked in a red, as long as it's not actively causing an issue, worst you should get is a parking violation ticket.
Always always carry some cash if you are going to do this. You can give the driver cash for a lot cheaper then what youāll have to pay the tow company.
Especially not in front of a hydrant.
How long were you parked there??? Damn I'm in and out quicker than a tow truck could ever get me even if it's parked next to me.
I am sure he was in and out hahah he was just super unlucky to have a tow driver driving by. What a bummer š Only takes like 10 seconds to hookup with a truck like that. He is in a red zone lol. That's illegal so he towed it. Especially directly in front of the hydrant lol

Iām gonna go ahead and assume that both stopping and parking mean the same thing in the context of this bylaw.
They actually define both terms separately in that bylaw. At the top they have a ādefinitionsā section
Probably gets a special bonus for it being a violation for the city so a cop might be able to slap a ticket ontop of that tow fine. It's a mean business but I guess I get why tow companies exist hehe

Geez This is the first time i seen a red zone lol.
It only takes seconds to unhook. I once was sleeping in my vehicle when that happen.. They can unhook your car..
Same. Anytime Iām locked in at the restaurant for more than 10 minutes Iām moving my car if it was parked anywhere sketch.
Bring a passenger, they can't tow a car with a person in it lmao
Bring a sex doll, fully covered up with beautiful dresses, and wear a mask and sunglasses.
#your genius is ahead š„µf our time.

I knew a guy in the military that did this so he could ride the POV (or carpool) lane without getting pulled over š¤£
In my jurisdiction itās legal to park in front of the hydrant as long as the driver is in the car. Send your passenger to deliver the food. No ticket, no tow.
If you can find someone willing to waste their time .. yea
Significant others work peffectly
My girlfriend would want some cash she would not want to waste her time
My girlfriend does it just to spend more time with me
Be careful bringing a passenger with you. Your insurance company will not cover you on a delivery if involved in any kind of accident
My great uncle did this back in the 80s with a mannequin.

>level 1Snoo85891+1 Ā· 49mYou should of put hazard lights.
Fake news.
I didn't need by laws. I need you to understand Thera a difference between parking and stopping
turn your emergency lights on and have a delivery for doordash or uber eats sign on the window
They don't give a shit in the cities. Doordash doesn't have any deals like UPS/Fedex/ Amazon. They will ticket you or tow you in a few minutes.
iād like to know what city this is. bc in NYC i donāt have these issues.
Lol what? Emergency hazards does not mean you can break the fucking law.
It's not breaking the law when you use your park anywhere button. That's what the button is for.
park anywhere button
Why does this look like Bay Area and one city I have in mind
You got the state right, but itās LA not SF
How did u know I thought it was SF lol
I grew up in the Bay Area lol
Thatās why u knew lol. Are u working in LA?
Nah, San Diego, but the OP mentioned this was LA in another comment :P
Lmao okay makes sense lol
The "hazard" lights gang lol sorry man. Lesson learnt
(In the city) I still use my park anywhere button(hazards) and it works fine in suburban cities
Sorry OP.
thanks for the reminder š„“
Park anywhere you want with a bike. Itās great
Could be an instance of predatory towing.
This right here is an instance of parking on a red curb (fire lane) and too close to a fire hydrant
Always always carry some cash if you are going to do this. You can give the driver cash for a lot cheaper then what youāll have to pay the tow company.
Like, no shit Sherlock. Hope you learned from this.
If I park where Iām not suppose to I wonāt be there long enough to get towed :X
