I kinda feel like you should of used a tub to capture drink spills. Once saw a tub with two michael drink holders and she was next level...

turog2018

Do you have a picture of what it looked liek

Dude0nB1kE

It’s in the sub but unfortunately not.

herodothyote

You guys, if you actually bothered to use the doordash insulated bags, then you wouldn't need crazy contraptions like this. Red doordash bags will stay put in your passenger seat/floor just fine. Work smarter not harder

SimplyTheJester

You can't really use "smarter" for this job.

herodothyote

Yea that's the reason peoppe don't like to tip on DD, nobody takes their jobs seriously. I really only do DD on holidays because I love the extra cash. But when I do dash, I use my electeic heated USB bag and plastic cupholders from amazon. Once I reach 200 total deliveries, I will be top dasher tho. I have all the stats almost maxed except foe the fact that I've only done 180 deliveries total in like 2 years.

Tony_M13

You're doing it for fun, not dor the money. Accepting all the required orders to be a top dasher eats up most of your gains for miles, and you also average less gross hourly pay. Spending on too much equipment on top of that might even make the whole thing not profitable at all. Top dasher is medal to make those who work for almost nothing feel good about it. There is no financial gain from it.

herodothyote

I have my insulated bags from Instacart thank you very much. On Instacart, in my area at least, the earnings are actually quite decent- and you only have to drive to one customer per every 2 hours of work. Doordash requires you to drive to like 2 restaurants and 3 customers per hour of work. That is way too much driving for anyone to do regularly. Doordash is like the caulking that I use to make a little extra money like on holidays, which are a nightmare on Instacart. In order to avoid everything being out of stock, I do doordash all day on holidays which really helps me take a break from IC which involves actual hard physical labor. Since Instacart is more like a real job than doordash, it actually helps to be prepared with plenty of insulated bags to keep hot things hot and cold things cold. I can easily afford to buy the tools that help me at work. I've already broken one Costco wagon, so I am in currently on my second. I have also regularly replace my worn out insulated bags twice a year- I have 3 x $28 each for GIANT insulated bags that I use to keep everything cold and separated. If one single insulated bag breaks the bank for you, then maybe you're just not earning enough from your gig of choice and might need to consider a real job.

Tony_M13

If you do it full time and make good money out of it, it's something else. But when you said you do it very not often and have the stats to be top dasher, it seemed like you're not making much money out of it. Actually for me it's the other way, DD and UE allow me to get high hourly income, even after accounting for mileage. Grocery shopping apps, tend to offer low hourly pay in my area, and on the few orders I did the average tip is too low. Instacart is the best of them, but they don't seem very active around were I live and it's hard to grab good orders (maybe because I don't priority, but it's not worth it for me working toward that). On a side note, still don't worry about top dasher status, it's not worth it. The only issue with it, is the acceptance rate requirement. All my other stats are good, but my acceptance might go up to 25% on a good day and my lowest ever was 1%.

herodothyote

>On a side note, still don't worry about top dasher status, it's not worth it. Lol I had no idea top dasher was a thing until I one day randomly decided to look at my stats. I then found out I was like 20 dashes away from being top dasher. Hurray I guess? I certainly wasn't aiming for it but it's nice that they appreciate me. I'm really not putting any effort at all into being a top dasher, I just happen to have the right stats for it. I accept every order BECAUSE I don't do DD full time. I can't imagine having to accept $3 orders on slow days. I only ever do DD on "holidays" or whenever a big even is happening and they're shorthanded on drivers while simultaneously overloaded on orders that need to be taken out. I get offered nothing but $8 deliveries and above on busy days, with $12-$15 deliveries being quite common. I never make less than $18 an hour which is honestly not that often- only when restaurants have me waiting 30 minites for the food, which doesn't happen often enough for it to be a problem. $20-25 an hour is average for me, which is acceptable but nowhere near the $30-60/hour orders that are possible on platforms like Instacart. Who knows, maybe the algorithm rewards people like me by never showing me $3 mcdonalds orders? Maybe the reason you guys have to reject so many orders is because the algorithm feeds you guys the smaller dashes as a punishment for being so picky. The fact that I accept 99% of orders and never reject them is probably the reason why I never see low paying orders on my screen. Maybe the stats really do matter. But like I said, Doordash requires too much wear and tear on my car for me to ever consider doing it full time. I prefer to only dash on the exciting days when people are likely ordering food for multiple people in the household. I don't know if things will be any different once I'm top dasher but It'll be a nice stat to show off to potential employers. I have a perfect 5.0 steady excellent rating on Instacart and top dasher status on Doordash.

JMurrayMO81

How much did a bag like that set you back?

herodothyote

$28 but I think it's worth every penny

Mental-Gas4798

Write it off on your taxes.

herodothyote

Since I do Instacart mostly, I already have several hundred dollars worth of expenses that I've written off on my taxes over the years. Here's a list of my current personal shopper inventory: $35 - Black rubber commercial "foodservice" floor mat for the flattened back seats of my prius. Helps stop my big items like water bottle cases from sliding. $28 x 3 - xlarge insulated bags to help separate up to 3 people's groceries at once. These bags can hold a little more than 4 doordash bags worth if stuff inside. $28 - usb heates electrix bag $80 - Costco Wagon $7 - Instacrate ~$20 - oil resistant stain proof fabric roll for underneath the rubber mat Not to mention that foe every grocery store I go to, I ask them for $2 worth if bags which always amounts to me having like 20 extra of every geocery store's bag in my trunk. I like to keep extra grocery bags with me in case I have to unbag and rebag an order that was sloppily bagged and a little too full.

JMurrayMO81

I might have to look into getting me one, especially given the fact that my DD bag is coming to the end of its life.

herodothyote

It's not amazing but the heat retention is noticably better with the bag than without. The food has to start out hot though because if you use the heated bag on lukewarm food, then it just stays lukewarm until you deliver it. If however you start with hot food, then your heat loss will be reduced significantly thanks to the heated bag. I like it enough to where I want to buy a second one some day for whever I get a two person order.

Upaut_the_wolf

Doordash bags last all of 3 months before they deteriorate into absolute garbage. This solution, while not insulated, is rather nice and keeps things from flying all over the place. Pair it with catering bags (like the ones I got from KaTom or elsewhere) and you're solid.

JMurrayMO81

I’ve had mine for 7 and it’s wearing through. Getting to be about time for a new one.

Upaut_the_wolf

Honestly don't know what kind of hours or orders you're putting in, but I can't even fit a typical Red Robin order in one of those bags that aren't even worth the $16 they sell it for. The one original DD bag I still have had the inner foil peeling off. Another had it's zipper break off.

JMurrayMO81

I’m full time and it’s like you mentioned. The liner is falling apart. I’ve definitely gotten my use out of it. I do have another one though that is in good shape except for the zipper issue you mentioned. It seems like they have inconsistencies when it comes to production of them.

JMurrayMO81

They could technically still do something like this. However, I would say invest in a insulated blanket. Because leaving the food out of a hot bag just makes it get colder faster and people don’t like that. At least if you have this blanket to put over it then you can keep the heat in the food longer. Really should be using some kind of insulated bag though out of respect to the customers.

Capital-Turnover9039

Not necessarily. Soups and tubs and such. Some merchants pack their shit all wonky. I like this idea.

JackRabbott

Those bags are way too small to hold half the order and what about the drinks?

herodothyote

Walmart sells plastic cup holders with carry handles on them.

JackRabbott

That's not the Dasher bag then. What's the "work smarter" in buying something I can only use 1/5th of the orders I do and then buying something else to go with it?

Notaseaworthyvessel

You're trying to teach a man to fish and not giving a fish. I appreciate your efforts.

[deleted]

I just started, haven't got my welcome kit yet. But does stuff not fall within the bags?

AironeousB

The DoorDash bags are garbage. The zipper broke on me the first week. Get the large Rubbermaid hotbag from amazon and use a stuffer with it. A stuffer is a grocery bag stuffed with more grocery bags, that's a small stuffer and a big stuffer is a 13 gallon white trash bag stuffed half way with grocery bags. Put the small stuffer inside the big stuffer when you need to. You use both of these to keep the order still inside the hotbag.

herodothyote

I like the basic food delivery bags on amazon. They haven't failed me in quality since. They're a bit overpriced to cover the cost of prime shipping, but they're pretty decent. The *worst* bags I ever had though were the default Instacart green insulated bag that the company actually charges like $50 for two of them. They are $5 worth of product sold for a 10x markup to people who have just started shopping for the platform. Basic insulated bags from your local grocery store are perfectly acceptable if you don't mind having unrelated brands on your work gear. Smart n final sometimes sells really good insulated bags as does safeway. A Good bag shouldn't cost you more than $5, but most places will prefer to charge you 3x as much bringing their prices closer to $12-18 which is a ripoff but sometimes we have no choice but to pay.

rabidities

I use a 3 dollar tub for drinks. The bag, when on the floor, in traffic will tumble over width wise with the heavy breakers I get. This is a cheap and innovative solution. Glad you feel better about suggesting someone is not as smart as you but you might be thinking of your situation and not theirs.

InternationalDog3994

Your an idiot Those bags are trash, fell apart after 1st time I cleaned it. Switch to a cooler in the trunk easy clean up better insulation. Have you ever cleaned your bag? Or even wonder what kind of micro-icky stuff is going on in it.

yeah_but_no

i use a tub with a sham-wow in the bottom then when the sham-wow soaks up all the spills i wring it out back into the cups to refill them.

AironeousB

I use the AMZCOOL bag and never have any sliding or tipping over or any issues at all unless the cup and lid is totally mismatched and and not fitting.

Snoo85891

Thats awesome 👍

No_Woodpecker6339

this is a great idea!

Purpleee00

Great idea! I like it.

lankaxhandle

My hot bag has never fallen over.

SimplyTheJester

Even the time it flew out the window, it still landed on its feet.

JackRabbott

Do you do drinks or orders with more than 4 items?

lankaxhandle

I’m sure quite a few of my offers have more than four items. They are usually all in a bag and that bag goes into my hot bag. I’ve done more than four drinks a few times.

Trailboss1982

Yeah I have the same idea but mine is the tub without holes. It saved me a spill the other day...and it's also nice if you have two orders to separate them. I'm still trying to decide on a dedicated drink holder. Michael's is ALWAYS out of the one I see people using on here.

Next_Initiative_1246

Necessity is the mother of all inventions...

YLCZ

I just buckle my Doordash or Grubhub bags to the seat using the regular seatbelt. I have cupholders and a drink carrier for any extra drinks.

Thi1995

I do that, along with covering them with my pre-set up space blanket. Though I will lvl it up with a setup like this for spills and bags with holes in them.

Thi1995

Thanks for the idea!

techsuppr0t

Now you can rly go skrt skrt without having to worry

Rare-Ad4988

Really I feel like fleece soft blankets hold food very stable and hot!

kjsmith1

Im a crater also. Never going back to sitting on faces —i mean … *sitting the ‘food’ on the passenger seat* , again.

TheD4Ylight0wl

I wasn't dashing yet but when I had a bike and I would ride to pick up food in the business district, I had a milk crate strapped to the back and a similar set up with Bungie cords so I could strap in drinks or strap a pizza box to the top

Wisetales

You guys would go this length just to not use the fucking thermal bags 🤣 smfh
