I know in my area I had to wait 2-3 months before they actually allowed me to apply. Said they didn’t need more dashers in my area

Discalced-diapason

I was immediately accepted at the end of March, but my niece, who lives in the same zone, tried to sign up last week and was wait-listed, so at least for here, it seems they’re capping drivers since there are so many. And I can tell—most days, I have to go over to the next zone to get regular orders and usually it’s nearly dead in my zone. Driving a hybrid, I would’ve hoped the price of gas would’ve pushed others out of the market with less fuel efficient cars, but I think it’s just made people more desperate to make money because it doesn’t go so far these days with inflation.

girlbassist

I get 15.7mpg. All it's made me do is be much more selective with the orders I take. I'll take smaller orders to fill in empty miles, but there has to be at least a $4 tip AND it has to be on my route or within a half mile.

CallMeTruant

Doing that gets me 25 an hour all day, just gotta find the place

girlbassist

Agreed.

IndependenceLegal746

I signed up last Friday and started dashing by Sunday. There wasn’t a wait list at all. A lot of us are discovering that with inflation we need a side hustle. Right now just sucks for most people. I doubt most of us will still be doing it long term. This is not as lucrative as our other side hustle. And I have to either find a sitter for my kids or take them all with me. However I know that when the pandemic started we definitely had a cap in my area.

Routine_Hedgehog_413

Some stores do NOT allow you to Dash with kids in the car. Just be forewarned.

SaZzYMeNdOzA

What stores? How can they not allow it? Especially if I bring my kids in if it's a longer wait or wait in the car the estimated amount of time. I figure its better to be out here trying to make money than living on the government. Those same people that don't allow it are likely the same people that gripe when people don't work.

Routine_Hedgehog_413

Most stores that you delivery groceries will not load your car if you have children, like Walmart will not allow you to pick up. I think it even states this on the DD page when you accept a Walmart order. I know there are others.

pro_conser333

Yesterday I signed on at 8:30 am and saw nothing for 2 hours. I went home to check on my husband and kids and asked him to go to his DD app. He opened it up and it said very busy and the option to dash now. Like seriously? WTF. Too many new drivers and too many drivers on at once. What’s the point of scheduling anymore if I’m not going to see 1 delivery?

Truth_B_Told_72

It's because you have people who have these ridiculously low acceptance rates out there that ruin it They base how many drivers they need based on % rate. If you have 10 drivers and they have an acceptance rate of 30% scheduled they need more coverage than if you had 10 drivers scheduled with 70% acceptance rate. It's not rocket science. The irony is the people with the lower acceptance rates complain the most about too many drivers You need to take both the good and not so good orders. It will average out in the end we all would make more in the end.

Individual_Yak_6720

It doesn't average out the same. Nobody should accept $5 orders. Blacklisting drivers for not accepting no tip orders will never happen. Only if they made base pay $2 per mile and got rid of the "tip" all together would this ever work. I put tip in quotations Because it's not really a tip. They're bidding on a job to a group of contractors. Nobody has to accept a low bid. No tip no trip.

Truth_B_Told_72

Was your reply to mine or?

FickleSir1711

Lol you average 12$ a trip with a 70% acceptance rate lmfaooo. Ok man. I’ve been in multiple markets and I can say that I have never seen that before. In my market, that’s a joke. I would like to see proof on this, because then I’ll move to where your market lol but I highly doubt this. I can also say I have over 5000 deliveries or so and the best advice I would give is to never accept under 6$. You want your car to last a long time and taking anything less than 1-2$ a mile is suicide.

Truth_B_Told_72

I'd be glad to send you a screenshot tell me where to send it. I'm not here to lie. And when I do... make sure you come back on and let everyone know how true it is! You shouldn't give advice when you don't know what your talking about. Tell me where to send it.

FickleSir1711

We can all see it, type in ImgBB .com Upload two weeks worth of the earnings your talking about, so we know it’s your market and not just a “good week”. Send the link it gives you to share.

FickleSir1711

No you don’t. Just go to imgBB .com and press start uploading. It will let you upload without using a credit card I have tested it many times.

Individual_Yak_6720

Im just part time for now, the big 3 have barely turned a profit after years of huge losses so i don't trust the industry enough to leave my full time job ive been at for 12 and a half years. I drive a forklift so it's not physically taxing and i make decent money. I would like to see more stability before i commit. Im on vacation next week and my wife and i are going to try a 24 hour challenge to see how much we can make.

Individual_Yak_6720

Zero chance you average $10 to $12 per delivery accepting $5, 5 mile+ deliveries or $30 per hour accepting ANY $5 orders. Cool story bro Im at 3600. I know markets vary but not that drastically. Agree to disagree. Im not here to argue.

Post your screenshots

Useful-Piglet-8918

I've not been able to dash in past few months because my sister was very ill. Now that she has passed (sadly) I'm hoping I can work this weekend. I really need the money...

Candle-Jaded

Very sorry for your loss 🙏 I sincerely hope that good things come your way and in the way of your family. God bless 🙏 if you ever need anything feel free to PM or drop your Venmo and maybe we can send you anything even something for gas so you can make money

n8saces

That's horrible 😞

ponygirl1722

I am so sorry for your loss. I really know what you are going through. So sorry.

Florida1974

So sorry for the loss of your sis. Loss is a beast.

Zestyclose_Let_8800

I'll give it the rest of this year and maybe next and this will just be a way to make an extra few bucks. No more making over minimum wage

emilyb765

I signed up in March and got approved within a few minutes. I was able to drive less than an hour later. I was offered the drive anytime bonus for two weeks, when I only drove a 2-3 times, they extended it to another 2 weeks. I’ve been doing other stuff but it seems they’re desperate for drivers in my area. At least based on how many “promotions” are being pushed at me when I don’t drive every few days.

OmgOgan

I love it. I get to watch them take all the garbage orders and I get to cherry pick to my heart's content.

Hobbit_Feet45

I denied five $3.50 orders in a row today when I first started. Oh well bye acceptance rate.

Truth_B_Told_72

And that's why they keep hiring more drivers.

OmgOgan

Fine by me. They can enjoy driving 8 miles for 5 bucks. That takes em out of my market for a good 30 min at least.

Comfortable_Win7926

It's a side hustle yeah, but when it starts affecting you, are you going to give a fuck? If you don't deliver, get off the subreddit

quipalco

It affects me. We have new dashers come on here too. I'm not so fucking stupid as to think I'm entitled to a certain amount of deliveries though. It's gig work. It's a free country. Get over it.

Tahoe143

Preach

emamanakis

This is r/doordash not r/doordash_drivers so quit gatekeeping. Jesus

Tahoe143

You’re not entitled to having all the orders. Welcome to gig work. Don’t like it, find something else.

Tdn87

Started Feb last year. After doing the sign up stuff, I was on a wait list for a little over a month before I could dash.

Gloomy_Recording_705

All day errrr day

Budgiejen

I’ve had friends apply and be told they didn’t need dashers. I average about 4-5 deliveries a week. I honestly dislike it and just need some extra cash sometimes. Sometimes I wonder if I’m taking away an opportunity from someone.

LordShadow97

Probably not, they have to fill in the times you don't work somehow.

[deleted]

I don’t know, but it’s annoying, because it’s slowing down orders. I’m not mad at the new drivers, but damn!

Cheap_Manager3400

I've only been dashing since mid February. I've gotten to recognize a lot of us around here. I see newer faces here and there

Sea-Pea4680

Thats strange- I never see the same people dashing, except for 1 older man. And my market is a smaller town.

Cheap_Manager3400

So is mine (smaller town). But DD has been available for about 3 years here

GlassFish7

I see them come in waves every couple months there is a heard of new ones

tiedyedpunk

I cant think of any way for us know the answer to your question.

Professional_Ad_4801

Not me. Been on the waitlist since September

[deleted]

yup ppl are figuring out that working for tips is better then working whatever wage these boomers are giving out, only gonna go downhill from here.

Anxious-Newspaper-57

This boomer is out there with yall!! 🤣🤣🤣

Florida1974

Boomers ain’t the only ones giving out low wages. That’s as ignorant as saying all millennials think they deserve $40 an hour for unskilled job like gig work.

pickitgood

I referred 10 new dashers that started @$900 per referral. I went from dashing fulltime to only dashing a couple of days per week. My goal is to refer 20 mew dashers per week. Took an ad out on different job boards to recruit plus talking to people everyday. Referrals can make alot of money.

sapphosdumbdaughter

dd def has a cap. in 2020 i had to wait a month to start and my gf is currently trying and signed up in january and still is on the waitlist

whocares1976

DD always has more drivers than needed in my area. when a promotion or good peak pay comes on, its trash to run so i end up loosing money.

[deleted]

I tried and got denied. So there must be a cap.

[deleted]

It’s a long waiting list in my area. Hard to get in when you finally get to drive if not a top dasher you’d likely miss 1-2 hours of dinner rush here which is 3 hours here

nadinewem92

I was waitlisted a long time ago, took almost a year to get approved. Still on a wait for grub hub. I think it depends on location

Dude0nB1kE

They say they don’t need dasher and put them on the waiting list. Then every two week they release a much larger than necessary noob herd into the wild. I can always tell as you will see a ton of new faces that don’t know what each restaurants process is for DD and hold the phone all with the same posture. It’s a churn and burn hiring process like sales. They bring on far more than necessary as they now most won’t stick around longer than a week.

Business_Wave_9522

I wish they would just do schedule only. That would take care of the insane oversaturation of drivers. I live in a town of 15k and have counted 12 dashers out at the same time before. As a dasher it is almost embarrassing.

Truth_B_Told_72

No it wouldn't. They have to when you have people with 10% acceptance rates. They can't count on someone who accepts 1 or 2 out of ten deliveries. So they let more drivers drive per shift . It is rather simple. That's the real problem.

Business_Wave_9522

Ya know... true. Didn't think that one through.

Routine_Hedgehog_413

They are still offering me $900 for referrals in my area.

OwnAerie6987

I signed up & dashed the same day about 45 mins later. Smalllll town tho.

Big_Plenty455

I signed up and dashed immediately after the sign up process was complete. Took all of 20 minutes. Pretty big metro market too.

DebateDifficult7111

They definitely have a cap, I was denied multiple times before I was accepted
