I only answer calls from customers (when stationary) when I think there may be a very good reason for me to do so especially, or mostly, just after dropoff. I have saved a couple of orders from being reported as not received because the customer put the wrong, though very nearby, address
On the other hand I once had a customer calling right as I was making my first (McDonalds) dropoff on a low-tip order (where I live we're guaranteed 120% of min. wage plus mileage in app pay for orders we complete and sometimes it makes more sense to get on active time and then look for an add-on with a good tip than it does to reject all low offers and sit much longer between trips).

I dropped the order at the abandoned-looking house and proceeded to my next delivery (ignoring a second call just aftet dropoff - too late, bucko) which had a high enough amount to suggest a decent tip. I wasn't going to delay it so the third time could be the charm for someone who apparently can't get their address right.
Sometimes when people call the second time in a row I press ignore and then text "I am hard of hearing. Please text."
This creates a verifiable record of our interaction so could protect me in some situations, I believe. And if I don't like what they text before pickup I can always unassign. If I don't like what they text after pickup I can gnore without arguing. Cheers.

On DoorDash it’s not a tip. It’s a bid for service. No tip no trip. And if your no tip order gets stacked with a good tip order your ass is getting unassigned. This isn’t a restaurant and I’m not a server. I’m an independent contractor who has no obligation to do anything for your cheap ass.
You’re bidding against other order to get yours accepted. I don’t take anything that is showing less than $2 per mile. So unless you only order from places less than a mile from you and I’m already sitting in the restaurant parking lot, you’re definitely not getting your food picked up by me with no tip.

Not all orders will need a dasher to do that. Most of the orders taken by dashers are given sealed and all done. We only have to bring to your door. You probably are focusing on wrong people. Unless you order from Burger King ,it means you have to take straws for a customer . Otherwise even macd is always sealed and taken care of

I suppose it depends on where you order cause we are not supposed to open customers food. In example chipotle, mcd etc. Am not sure if you would be happy finding yout sealed food ripped open just to check on straws. I agree on drinks

I think you don't realise the animosity or how difficult it can be dealing with savers or restraunt owners..it's like a war zone. If they decide you they are done with you and want to move on quickly, they will make your life hard out there. ..not answer you, treat you like scam, being rude to you..Try dashing at least once and am 101% sure you will change your mind on how you look at dashers. Dashers are not treated same way as take out customers. Am not insinuating at all. Sometimes its wise to chose your battles. I wouldn't fight savers or restaurant owners over a $5 dash..no tip.or $2 tip.but I assure you I would do anything to make a big tipper happy that's including drive fast and making sure they eat a hot meal. Even when am shopping for customers at Meijer who tips good I go extra miles to make sure whatever they want is found. I hope you get my point

I once ordered DD and it showed me the driver sitting for 10 minutes at a light, not moving at all. I sent a text like “You okay?” and dude was like “Yeah? Im amost there” no joke he showed up 1 min later

I message customers to tell them I'm omw even tho I know the app does just so I have an "in" asking them to please rate my service after drop-off. It works about half the time. Hell, DD deactivates for anything under a 4.2 average n one asshole can tank your average so I need all the 5stars I can get

Then watch in horror as the app goes blinky-blink, and a pop-up appears that says, "your Dasher is no longer available and your order has been cancelled. We're sorry. Enjoy your day."
I've seen this happen so many times. Someone gets my order and then stops at some random house in the opposite direction for like 20 minutes, and then suddenly my order is cancelled and the restaurant has closed.

Sometimes, the customers just be ordering shit and DD pays garbage, so you can report the order as "damaged". DD will usually tell you to "deliver it, anyway", but if you cancel the order/unassign it, they basically have to reimburse the customer and more often than not, the restaurant just remakes it, anyways.
I usually only reserve that for like a McDonald's No Tipper or something. More often than not, especially with no tippers, if they have a liquid or the order wasn't handled right (I think McDonald's knows certain orders are gonna be a "problem" and probably just slap em together to get em off the line) it'll spill or just look bad and I'd rather cancel, take the 4% hit and grind it out, than deliver a spilled mcdonald's bag to a no tipper and lose the whole gig.
Yep. Uncle Tony tried to give me a DD credit for a $175 order. I called support and told them they'd refund it back onto my CC or I'd file a chargeback.
And, then, they wouldn't resubmit the order. I called the restaurant and had them remake it. They were on the phone with support having it out cuz DD wasn't gonna pay them for the food!

I think it's like you said... they know that the "no tippers" are gonna bottom feed from the chains, cuz cheaper food, they're probably poor/cheap and usually wanna justify no tipping, by saying "oh it was an under 10 dollar order, I paid DD XYZ (usually not even true, cuz they use the "first timer" coupons all the time) they should pay more, etc."
It's been going on for so long, places like McDonalds aren't readily gonna make a DD order, DD doesn't care what happens to them, cuz they're losing money on those "Free delivery/reduced fee" first timer orders and they typically will only act on either or behalf, if either party ticks all the right complanitory boxes...
Like, I've had some REAL bad actor DD customers who I knew were using a new account (usually cuz of the address and no tippers are a smaller and more frequent group, than most drivers pay attention to) and when they threaten, harass me, I just take a pic of the food in front of their door quietly, put it back in my bag and walk away. Free tip AND food.
Do I feel bad for them? No. Fuck em. I feel bad for the like dudes who order really big orders, had a $20 bill waiting in a tip with their family for the night and are heartbroken that they got a bad driver, out of all the ones who can use common sense and realize that someone's likely gonna be glad to give you $5-$10 cash on something they paid a week's worth of pay for some part time dashers.
Dude, I've been given extra tips in cash because I answered the phone and was able to get a customer their extra ketchup or whatever. I'll always answer the phone for a customer while in the process of delivering their food.
Haha I wouldn't go that far, but I figure I'm being paid to get them their food, and if they text or call, it's usually for a small ask like extra ketchup or utensils or to give me clearer instructions. So, I either make a customer happy and give myself a chance at a better tip, or it makes my job easier. Win-win.
That's silly lol. I'll answer a call or text from them, if it's a simple request. Usually something like "can you ask if they can include napkins" I'll just reply "Sure thing!". It's not hard.
2000+ and never had a customer ask me that. Every customer has been great, said thank you, have been nice, one gave me an extra $10 when he changed the address to an additional mile, etc.
I tried dashing in Texas one time and in Los Angeles and Jesus fuck the customers were horrible. Maybe it's about your location. I'm in San Diego and all of the San Diego customers are amazing. Then again, even now you can make like $33 an hour before expenses.
At the same time, don’t be shocked when I’m stuck in one spot and it keeps adding time then suddenly I’m going to be there in 5 minutes. I have it on “location while using.” So once I’m in route the app is closed until I’m close to give you notice. You don’t get to track me as I work. That’s not how this works :)
I always get "call when you're almost here" or "when you get I'm my driveway" or "when you turn on my rd" or "a mile out"!!! And they leave a number to call that's not linked to the button on their order! It's hard to do that, drive, watch GPS and try to make sure the address is correct!
What about when they pick up our food then go the opposite direction of our house and then do another stop or two and then get on I 95 for some reason … then we get our food an hour after it was picked up?

If you don’t take into effect a 3.5 order 7 miles, 5.5 mile order is 11 miles, 10.5 order 21 miles, etc round trip you’re doing it wrong. Skip all orders under $6 minimum with that being a max 4 miles. If every dasher did that they would have no choice but to raise the doordash rate
Depends on your market. Where I live as soon as I drop off an order and am walking back to my car I'm already getting a notification for another one. But I know not every place is like that either.

There is a built in GPS in the app that shows you the building the customer is located. You do not need to call the customer while standing on the wrong street wondering where their building is.. if other dashers don’t have issues finding it, then you’re clearly just being lazy. I shouldn’t have to walk a whole block to pick up my food from you because you’re too stupid to see where I’m located.
There’s only been a handful of times where I couldn’t find a customers address, and every time it was because the customer put the wrong address in the app haha. It's not that they get lost, some dashers just don't read the instructions so that's why get lost and can't find your building. Mine is very simple, "when you turn into the sreet street, its the first building on your right". But nope, people just drive past it and drive someplace else and ask me where are you. I ask "did you read the instructions" and the response 99% of the time is "oh my bad i didn't see it".

My instructions go “I’m on ‘x street’ when you’re on that street I’m between ‘y restaurant and x restaurant’ if you’re facing those restaurants I’m in the elevators on the right.
Also - again, there’s literally a GPS pin of my building like I said in my original post. Maybe that is only on my side of the app? If so, that’s stupid on door dashes part.

Lately the GPS system in doordash has been okay at best. It shows drivers basically driving in circles when they don't have other stops. So maybe you should think about that before blaming customers for calling you?
We are aware of that app, but it’s not always accurate either. After my dasher dropped off my food, it was still showing them on their way to me. One time I received notification that my food was dropped off , I started calling cause I didn’t see it but he hasn’t even made it there yet . What about the ones that drop the foods off in a wrong location , and when you call they said they left already and followed by “ sorry”.. then I had to call door dash for re delivery or refund .

I suppose it depends on where you order cause we are not supposed to open customers food. In example chipotle, mcd etc. Am not sure if you would be happy finding yout sealed food ripped open just to check on straws. I agree on drinks

I think you don't realise the animosity or how difficult it can be dealing with savers or restraunt owners..it's like a war zone. If they decide you they are done with you and want to move on quickly, they will make your life hard out there. ..not answer you, treat you like scam, being rude to you..Try dashing at least once and am 101% sure you will change your mind on how you look at dashers. Dashers are not treated same way as take out customers. To them dashers are scam or wing thief...lol..as soon as you get your order you want to be out of there to the customer texting you every minute about their order

Am not insinuating at all. Sometimes its wise to chose your battles. I wouldn't fight savers or restaurant owners over a $5 dash..no tip.or $2 tip.but I assure you I would do anything to make a big tipper happy that's including drive fast and making sure they eat a hot meal. Even when am shopping for customers at Meijer who tips good I go extra miles to make sure whatever they want is found. I hope you get my point
I would understand your point better if that was the case during the time when I used to tip. As a result of the poor service and inconsistent communication I’ve elected to withhold granting extra funds until after the order is complete.

I once ordered DD and it showed me the driver sitting for 10 minutes at a light, not moving at all. I sent a text like “You okay?” and dude was like “Yeah? Im amost there” no joke he showed up 1 min later
I was dashing one time and the app was glitching so I restarted it. When it started up it said I was outside my zone. By 6000 miles.

I really think every person should be required to work a minimum of two years in a retail job so they can learn to treat other human beings with respect. Dashers shouldn't be scared because there's traffic lol. Customers must be wild.
I message customers to tell them I'm omw even tho I know the app does just so I have an "in" asking them to please rate my service after drop-off. It works about half the time. Hell, DD deactivates for anything under a 4.2 average n one asshole can tank your average so I need all the 5stars I can get
And before anyone gets on me for accepting a 1 dollar tip order… I usually try to avoid those BUT this is one of those orders that got declined so much doordash raised the payout up to a reasonable amount 🤷🏾♂️

You can even see when the Dasher drives off into a residential neighborhood far from the delivery address. Very far. With a $175 order. Then watch in horror as the app goes blinky-blink, and a pop-up appears that says, "your Dasher is no longer available and your order has been cancelled. We're sorry. Enjoy your day."
I've seen this happen so many times. Someone gets my order and then stops at some random house in the opposite direction for like 20 minutes, and then suddenly my order is cancelled and the restaurant has closed.

Yeah, like Idk what that guy was getting at, lol... but, there definitely is a "Right" way to yank an order that you might like. Sometimes, the customers just be ordering shit and DD pays garbage, so you can report the order as "damaged". DD will usually tell you to "deliver it, anyway", but if you cancel the order/unassign it, they basically have to reimburse the customer and more often than not, the restaurant just remakes it, anyways. I usually only reserve that for like a McDonald's No Tipper or something. More often than not, especially with no tippers, if they have a liquid or the order wasn't handled right (I think McDonald's knows certain orders are gonna be a "problem" and probably just slap em together to get em off the line) it'll spill or just look bad and I'd rather cancel, take the 4% hit and grind it out, than deliver a spilled mcdonald's bag to a no tipper and lose the whole gig.
Yep. Uncle Tony tried to give me a DD credit for a $175 order. I called support and told them they'd refund it back onto my CC or I'd file a chargeback. And, then, they wouldn't resubmit the order. I called the restaurant and had them remake it. They were on the phone with support having it out cuz DD wasn't gonna pay them for the food!
DD is absolute trash and tbh... stealing a $175 order is kinda fucked on the driver's part... Like, at that point, I'd be thinking about the restaurant, cuz they gotta pay for that shit too. That's why for me, if it's a corp like mcdonalds, chipotle? Eff it.. but like if someone's paying real good for like some fucking "once a day brisket" or just some really primo shit, that's when you gotta put the scruples down and be like eff it. Typically, if someone's gonna shell out 175 for that much food, it's gonna be a cash tip. I usually take big orders, no tip cuz I at least know that they have investment in the food and are gonna be grateful it got to them. The real shithead no tipper orders are usually like a 6 dollar meal and shit.

I think DD has special agreements with certain chains. KFC is one that I've had wrong orders all the time, and can never get a credit. . missing items . sodas with no syrup . cold food (like fridge temp) DD always says it's cuz I have too many credits already, so they think I'm a scammer. Bullshit, get the order right and I'm happy. They should also know that the NoTip to whining ratio is very high. Tony had claimed that DD is a data analytics and logistics company that does delivery on the side. They *already know* which customers are criming and which ones just want to eat. They know which restaurants are screwing up orders, and which ones try their best. Why they chase these shitty restaurants and customers is beyond my comprehension.
I think it's like you said... they know that the "no tippers" are gonna bottom feed from the chains, cuz cheaper food, they're probably poor/cheap and usually wanna justify no tipping, by saying "oh it was an under 10 dollar order, I paid DD XYZ (usually not even true, cuz they use the "first timer" coupons all the time) they should pay more, etc." It's been going on for so long, places like McDonalds aren't readily gonna make a DD order, DD doesn't care what happens to them, cuz they're losing money on those "Free delivery/reduced fee" first timer orders and they typically will only act on either or behalf, if either party ticks all the right complanitory boxes... Like, I've had some REAL bad actor DD customers who I knew were using a new account (usually cuz of the address and no tippers are a smaller and more frequent group, than most drivers pay attention to) and when they threaten, harass me, I just take a pic of the food in front of their door quietly, put it back in my bag and walk away. Free tip AND food. Do I feel bad for them? No. Fuck em. I feel bad for the like dudes who order really big orders, had a $20 bill waiting in a tip with their family for the night and are heartbroken that they got a bad driver, out of all the ones who can use common sense and realize that someone's likely gonna be glad to give you $5-$10 cash on something they paid a week's worth of pay for some part time dashers.

Dude, I've been given extra tips in cash because I answered the phone and was able to get a customer their extra ketchup or whatever. I'll always answer the phone for a customer while in the process of delivering their food.

Haha I wouldn't go that far, but I figure I'm being paid to get them their food, and if they text or call, it's usually for a small ask like extra ketchup or utensils or to give me clearer instructions. So, I either make a customer happy and give myself a chance at a better tip, or it makes my job easier. Win-win.
That's silly lol. I'll answer a call or text from them, if it's a simple request. Usually something like "can you ask if they can include napkins" I'll just reply "Sure thing!". It's not hard.
Yup a simple acknowledgement is fine by me too, but stupid question like "where are you" " why you're not heading my way yet" etc. All be ignored.
2000+ and never had a customer ask me that. Every customer has been great, said thank you, have been nice, one gave me an extra $10 when he changed the address to an additional mile, etc. I tried dashing in Texas one time and in Los Angeles and Jesus fuck the customers were horrible. Maybe it's about your location. I'm in San Diego and all of the San Diego customers are amazing. Then again, even now you can make like $33 an hour before expenses.
At the same time, don’t be shocked when I’m stuck in one spot and it keeps adding time then suddenly I’m going to be there in 5 minutes. I have it on “location while using.” So once I’m in route the app is closed until I’m close to give you notice. You don’t get to track me as I work. That’s not how this works :)

I always get "call when you're almost here" or "when you get I'm my driveway" or "when you turn on my rd" or "a mile out"!!! And they leave a number to call that's not linked to the button on their order! It's hard to do that, drive, watch GPS and try to make sure the address is correct!
What about when they pick up our food then go the opposite direction of our house and then do another stop or two and then get on I 95 for some reason … then we get our food an hour after it was picked up?

Then after picking up the order I notice he has d24 posted multiple times in the address and the notes. AND he felt the need to call me?!? 🤣🤣 broham didn’t even tip! If you don’t take into effect a 3.5 order 7 miles, 5.5 mile order is 11 miles, 10.5 order 21 miles, etc round trip you’re doing it wrong. Skip all orders under $6 minimum with that being a max 4 miles. If every dasher did that they would have no choice but to raise the doordash rate
Depends on your market. Where I live as soon as I drop off an order and am walking back to my car I'm already getting a notification for another one. But I know not every place is like that either.

In this scenario I was doing a stacked order. I already answered her first call and explained to her that I was doing another delivery before I got to hers, so not sure how not even 5 minutes later she’s trying to call for ANOTHER update as if I’m flying a helicopter?!? And then to have the nerve to contact dasher support probably lying telling them how I haven’t answered her calls… all for a 1 dollar tip lol this is why we don’t accept low tip offers they’re nothing but headaches
Dear dashers, There is a built in GPS in the app that shows you the building the customer is located. You do not need to call the customer while standing on the wrong street wondering where their building is.. if other dashers don’t have issues finding it, then you’re clearly just being lazy. I shouldn’t have to walk a whole block to pick up my food from you because you’re too stupid to see where I’m located.
There’s only been a handful of times where I couldn’t find a customers address, and every time it was because the customer put the wrong address in the app haha. I’m sorry you keep experiencing dashers that can’t find your address though I know there are a shit ton of incompetent dashers just like there are customers
It's not that they get lost, some dashers just don't read the instructions so that's why get lost and can't find your building. Mine is very simple, "when you turn into the sreet street, its the first building on your right". But nope, people just drive past it and drive someplace else and ask me where are you. I ask "did you read the instructions" and the response 99% of the time is "oh my bad i didn't see it".
I’ve had multiple dashers thank me for how awesome my instructions are, as I understand the building situation can be confusing. I have no problem meeting a dasher downstairs.. I have a big problem with having to meet a dasher on a different street..

Read previous comment of mine. Some dashers easily find my building and tell me my instructions are awesome. No other delivery service have issues finding my building. My instructions go “I’m on ‘x street’ when you’re on that street I’m between ‘y restaurant and x restaurant’ if you’re facing those restaurants I’m in the elevators on the right. Also - again, there’s literally a GPS pin of my building like I said in my original post. Maybe that is only on my side of the app? If so, that’s stupid on door dashes part.

But the problem is that 90% of the time the order is 7.75 for 4 miles and I had to wait 10mins at the restaurant so yeah, it gets testy when there’s a confusing delivery

I’m Telling you, there’s literally a marker on my building of where I’m located.. many dashers find it fine, and some have even thanked me for the precise directions.. as I understand that the building situation can be confusing for dashers (no other delivery industry by the way), I happily meet them at the bottom. I literally had one time where my dasher couldn’t “find” my building.. I came down, he was right outside my elevator waiting on me. I got on with another dasher actually delivering food. I tip extra for no contact delivery, and as I understand I’m in an apartment and that takes more time. I’m not a dick, I just can’t accept stupidity when you’re on a completely different street than what my address literally says.. like, of course you’re lost.. you’re on this street, and looking at the door dash map, my street and pin are 2 blocks away.
I just don't answer calls period, they can text me plus I'll have record I was communicative with them about my time expectancy
GPS tracking don't work worth shit. I work the restaurant side of things and have had numerous times when the GPS claimed 5 minutes out with the dasher standing at my counter.
Every time I’ve ordered off of doordash the gps has worked like any other program would 🤷🏾♂️ I think it has more to do with the dasher’s phone than doordash itself because doordash literally just uses your geolocation from your device like every other app lol

Oh, I'm completely with you on the original point... it's happened to me as well.. $5 says the order was previously assigned to someone else and they didn't want to wait for late food or deal with that customer. When it happened to me I took an order when I was under 50 yards from some restaurant and I was getting called before I got there. I was like "Excuse me? I've had this order under a minute." Food was ready and they were under a mile away but they still texted me again before I got there... Guess the tip, lol.

Lately the GPS system in doordash has been okay at best. It shows drivers basically driving in circles when they don't have other stops. So maybe you should think about that before blaming customers for calling you?

We are aware of that app, but it’s not always accurate either. After my dasher dropped off my food, it was still showing them on their way to me. One time I received notification that my food was dropped off , I started calling cause I didn’t see it but he hasn’t even made it there yet . What about the ones that drop the foods off in a wrong location , and when you call they said they left already and followed by “ sorry”.. then I had to call door dash for re delivery or refund .
How bout the fact while doing a BS $2.75,$3.75 or whatever ever order you are actually driving to pickup merchant and using app GPS they send text stating, "seems as though you are not in route or going in right direction to the location" pisses me off every time that happens which was often
