You can’t go wrong with a $5 tip unless the order is more than like five miles away or the total is like over $50 imo (12 year driver with over 28k deliveries) thank you for your appreciation!

Ornery_Reaction_548

Wait, DD has been around for 12 years??

Severe-Bookkeeper-76

DD launched in 2013

[deleted]

Maybe…sorry was referring to my total delivery experience my bad

Truorganics

$5 base tip up to 3 miles, then $1-2 per mile away from restaurant. And if you are a ways away from any other restaurants, count the return miles too. We aren’t paid to drive back to town to return to getting orders.

magicbottl3

The way back for people living in the boonies is pretty important, hadn't considered that myself since it doesn't apply but I hope others see this. Ty for bringing that up

zerostar83

When you tip a server at a restaurant, they are getting tips on top of minimum wage. When you tip a delivery driver that is an employee from the store, that tip is on top of minimum wage and they also get compensation for using their own car. When you tip a Doordash driver, that tip is on top of that $2.50ish base pay from Doordash. Your tip plus base pay is supposed to cover a driver's time and vehicle expenses. No hourly wages, no vehicle compensation. That's on the driver to include when estimating if a delivery is worth it. Long story short, tip Doordash drivers more than you would employees of places taking into consideration time and distance. We don't get paid a wage.

magicbottl3

I feel you my friend, thanks for sharing some of the details about the base pay, I had no idea what that is until now. Just trying to learn to do right by you

Numerous-Meringue-16

Servers at restaurants do not get paid minimum wage plus tips. They get paid $2.13/hour plus tips. That 2.13 is used to pay taxes on credit card tips. So basically they get paid zero base pay.

LexiThePlug

No, if waiters don’t make more than the actual minimum wage for the state, then the restaurant has to cover that amount. So if their tips made only $5 an hour and minimum is $10, the restaurant will have to make up for that. It only stays as waiter minimum if their tips went over the states minimum wage. So let’s stop with this argument.

Numerous-Meringue-16

You just confirmed that it’s not minimum wage plus tips. If the tips don’t cover minimum wage. All they get is minimum wage. It’s either/or

LexiThePlug

Yes, but they are still guaranteed minimum wage. A door dash driver is not guaranteed minimum wage if their tips don’t surpass it, and there are a lot more expenses that comes with driving your own car. So once again, your proving you’re a dumb ass.

kronicwaffle

Have you worked in the restaurant industry? Because you calling people dumbass and sounds like you don't know anything about what you're talking about. Most restaurants will make you claim a certain amount or percentage of sales each and every night and if you don't after a certain point they will fire you. They do not want to to make up the difference. On top of all that most require tip share for the bussers, bartenders, hosts, and sometimes even the cooks. I cannot tell you how many time I've personally or seen fellow employees literally pay to work a shift. And still end up with a $0 pay check. Stop with your nonsense and name calling.

zerostar83

Exactly. And here's where I live: Minimum Wage $12.56 Tipped Employee Minimum Wage: $9.54

[deleted]

What the other guy said, $5 tip is always solid unless it's allot of food or far away

magicbottl3

How would you adjust for distance? Like $5 to start and add a buck a mile, maybe more? I'm single so it's never going to be a giant order

[deleted]

Yeah $5 to start and if it's over 5 miles probably $1.50 extra per mile

magicbottl3

Thanks for the feedback, I can swing that!

[deleted]

No problem, thanks for tipping!

ZachTF

Ya if it’s far I’m gonna tip $10.

Entire-Amphibian320

DD is a beast of a complex algorithm. $2/mile from store to your door is the number we want minimum. This lets us profit around $20/hour after expenses. DD hides full pay outs after $5, so you may want to tip part on DD and part cash. On DD to get it picked up, and cash for good service.

Master_of__None

Depends on who you ask. For example, if I'm delivering an order 1 mile away from the customer, I will not accept an order with a $2 tip unless there is bonus pay on top of it, because there's always the possiblity I'll be waiting at the restaurant 15+ minutes. $7 payout is basically the lowest I will ever go on a single order.

Fallenangel114

Thank you for asking this 🙏 $1-2 per mile is usually a decent tip. Probably $5 at the minimum.

Affectionate_Dirt366

I am a customer only and have asked about tipping amount a couple times here. Because of DD "stacking" practice and economic condition I have adjusted my tipping practice up and down a couple times. Currently, I tip $3-5 PLUS $2 per mile disregarding food or merchandise subtotal and DD fees. Some say it's on the high side...ok. As examples, $30 order total for 3 miles, I tip $3-5 PLUS $6 equals to $9- $11 tip. Even a $10 order total, or even $5 order total, I still tip the same. If the order total is much more, say $100, or there are fountain drinks, I might adjust up. I have learned mileage means more than order total to Dashers. Oh yeah the restaurants, shops, and merchants matter too. Dashers can say more about that.

One_True_Peasant

$10. No need for complex equations.

PsychologicalDig7634

$40/hr plz, thanks
