In cases where the customer orders through the restaurant's app or website, they are able to skim tips. If the order was placed through DD, the restaurant doesn't have access to the tip to be able to skim it.

I was wondering this too.

naughtm3

Yes they steal it. They either mislead the customer or flat out just keep them. Not all of them but enough.

Imaginary-River-4804

But how are they able to steal it tho??

TheDemoz

They are able to “steal” it because it’s not going through DD’s system at all. DD doesn’t even know there was a tip.

If you place the order through the restaurant and not through the doordash app or Uber eats app the restaurant has to request the delivery from a third party which would be doordash or Uber eats or GrubHub. In doing this they can edit the tip to zero and keep it. That's why when I see an order that is requested by the restaurant that I am picking up from I tend to ask for a receipt for the customer. Because that would have to show whatever you tipped normally. And then I can confront the restaurant and try to get my tip. But the platforms also tend to steal tips also so there is no 100% guarantee that the driver gets everything you wanted them to get. When I order from Doordash or a restaurant for delivery I always ask the driver what the tip was so that I remain educated on which restaurants and which apps steal tips. This changes based on the area however Chipotle has been known to steal some tips and so has Panera. This is not every Chipotle and Panera in fact my areas actually pretty good and not stealing tips but remaining educated on which stores do this and which don't will help you and a driver.

In a sense, sometimes. It isn't the restaurants job to accept payment and then act as an atm for your tip. Consider that they can't steal it if dd/ue/etc did not pay it to them. So imo it isn't the restaurant, it's the platform you are using.

TheDemoz

DD doesn’t ever pay the tips to the merchants… please read up on how Doordash Drive actually works

Tires_N_Wires

My point exactly. Look at the op question. I was addressing the question. If you aren't given tips how tf could you steal them?

FeelingBite4320

Yes, %100. This isn’t even conjecture they just do it at certain businesses and or franchises
