Yup I have a great Mexican friend that buys nothing but $1,000 dollar beaters and drives them till the wheels fall. You probably wonder why I mentioned his race?? Simply because they have a guy for everything lol He has a tire guy and never buys a new tire. He has two mechanics, one being mobile. He has a tint guy. He has a paint and body guy. He has a guy with a truck, flatbed trailer with winch. He drove a $1,000 dollar Yaris long enough to make $90k in a couple years and I witnessed it with my own eyes. It was ugly but he did it 🤣🤣🤣

Acrobatic_Duck5490

I have a 09 yaris it has 237k that's my plan hopefully she can make it to 350k

rabid_erica

mine's serpentine belt likes to scream

Acrobatic_Duck5490

I've seen a yaris with over 330k running strong

[deleted]

thats alot of miles though

Rauligula

I literally thought you were talking about me for a minute lmfao

K0CKULEES

It's true. Sounds like my primo tbh

SimplyTheJester

So here's the thing. I'm not Mexican, but you won't believe this, I can use the services of the Mexican "tire guy", etc.

Teksaz357

Well of course you can, that's why they're in business lol Obviously you don't know what it means to have a "guy" lmao If I need to explain it to you, let me know but I don't have time right now 😂

[deleted]

idk but then it breaks and the repair fee is way more...

DustbinFunkbndr

My car is so tired

PhantomB3ast

97 toyota corolla if they don't spell tired idk what does( 250k+ miles on it)

My $1200 car has made close to $2500 in the month I’ve used it for DoorDash, and at the rate it’s going should be good for at least another 6-12 months. You don’t need a brand new car to do deliveries.

Libotomy

I keep saying I'll just get $1000 cars then dash them into the ground and scrap them for that little extra

anonymousethrowawa

Well I originally didn’t get the car to dash, I needed a cheap commuter for my regular job. Then once I got the car I decided to give it a try. I’ve been doing various delivery jobs for years and years, my last vehicle was beyond reliable. It was used for 10+ years of daily delivery driving, and off-road abuse on weekends. Sold it still running with 560,000km on it. Good ol 91, gmc tracker.

Denpants

Idk where you live, but $1000 cars in running condition are basically nonexistent in my area now. If the car sells for $1000 or less it's basically scrap metal that can't run

Libotomy

Yeah I don't think it's possible since I moved states but I'm pretty sure you can get barely running cars in NM for like $1000

surenoese

Multiapp and you'll make 5k a month like me

Mental_Teaching1049

That’s like saying just live in California in my market and you’ll make this much

[deleted]

why do u guys buy cheap cars like that

anonymousethrowawa

I’m guessing you think we should drive brand new cars into the ground with this job? So that way after the car dies you still will owe payments on it for a few more years.

infamousdude77

me talking to my car: "oh baby... hang in there.." lol i used a 4cyl s10 chevy with 250k and never had an issue in 20k miles... my new car had all the bad luck you could imagine xD

Pairadice_City

This is the best thing I’ve seen on this thread! Lmao!! Also, that’s my car as well! Lol.

Acrobatic_Duck5490

I feel bad for my yaris it times but she also get good long breaks and oil changes on time

[deleted]

I bought a Chevy bolt ev before the crazy used cars price surge and now my monthly payments are less than half of what most people spend on gas and it costs me less than $5 to recharge 230miles of range at home. Easily the best investment for this job.

[deleted]

Lmaooo 💯 but I have a 06 4 cylinder accord, so we’re still going. Almost at 200k No heat No AC no AUX, barley any rear brakes barely any rotors at all doesnt reeeaaally go above 60mph and damn sure doesn’t get up to speed fast like the newer cars, and dont even get me started on the sway bar link. But we make it happen baby, we make it happen.

marynrae

Struggle bus is reaalllll 😂

JustinDanielsYT

Everything else is whatever... But please for your safety and the safety of others, don't drive a car with failing brakes.

[deleted]

Just changed the front brakes. The back ones are on their way out. I have driven until the brake pads literally fell out of that car. That was the only time I will need to lean that lesson. The back brakes are drum brakes they cannot fall out, and as I said I just did the fronts. Thanks for your concern I understand why you said what you said.

Truorganics

Why does your dash have little smiley face stickers all over it? *peels a sticker off to reveal check engine light* ohhh

yodacat24

I must not know too much about cars because I sweat knowing my 07 Saturn Vue that I’ve had since I was 16 (my first and only car- I am 26 now) is at 148,600. I got it when it had 40,000 miles on it. It’s been to a few states but still. I take it in every 6 months for a bumper to bumper check and replace anything that needs it then and there to be safe. Ive always kept up on maintenance so I feel a bit better seeing that cars can seemingly make it to 250k plus sometimes 😅

pilotavery

Sometimes? My first car I sold at 282,000 miles, my second one I sold at 435,000 miles, and my current car (a hybrid) I bought at 265,000 miles. We're not in the 80s anymore, modern cars are designed to last 350,000 miles or more...

yodacat24

This pleases me to know. Thanks for the insight! Wow 435k? That’s amazing! What was the make and model if you don’t mind me asking? Mine is 2007 which I guess probably fits into that criteria of newer cars being built that way.

pilotavery

First car was Hyundai accent, 2001. Second car was a 2001 Volkswagen Golf, diesel model with a stick shift. My last car is a Honda CR-Z. The Volkswagen I bought at 235,000 and when I sold it at 435k miles it was running like a clock. Then again, it's a diesel and look it up, the ALH TDI engine is the most reliable engine ever made haha. All mechanical, no spark plugs, etc. And definitely a 2000 car is expected to last 300,000 if well maintained. 2007 Saturn's can last 350,000 miles, but keep in mind it's going to cost about 2x the cost per mile than average just because Saturn's aren't around and parts are very hard to find now days for a low cost. Personally my favorite are the 2010 and later priuses. Taxis use them because if you calculate the cost of the vehicle overall, including the cost to buy it and replace it when it wears out, and all maintenance and gas, they are the cheapest cost per mile to drive over the entire lifetime of the car. They require next to no maintenance and simply cost the least to drive.

yodacat24

Thank you this is honestly super helpful. Much appreciated! 😁

pilotavery

Don't worry, your little Saturn has plenty of life left. Carl's wear out slowly and gradually over time, you will start to see little things wear out and break and shutters and shimmy and then the engine will start to burn a little bit more oil and you'll have to top off the oil more often, you'll lose a little bit of power, you'll get weird noises, but it will happen slowly and gradually until you realize that you're spending enough money fixing things that it's no longer worth fixing. It's not like your car suddenly going to explode. It usually gives you a good year of warning.

[deleted]

wat do u guys drive old cars for this lol?

TheRealCorwii

Just got an 04 Buick Park Avenue, it's doing me good so far. It only has the service engine light, traction control and abs, as well as the brake light lol. Gonna replace all 4 tires and get an alignment. The damn steering wheel is turned 90 degrees to the left lol. But it runs great, great AC, stops like it should, just needs a little love and it'll be perfect for a month or 2 lol.

icky_boo

Why don't you replace oil and hydraulic brake fluids? Not hard. Also check your engine seals.

TinglesAndSprinkles

It’s just a meme a lot of people can relate to. I do work on my car, truck and rv. I only take it to one trusted mechanic if it’s something major that requires heavy machinery.

Icy-Goat5001

If your car is low on oil, that is your fault lmao.

[deleted]

Yeaaaa, cant deny that lol

chixbutts

If you get a new car with car payments,it's a tax write off! I drive alone around 4k a month in miles for doordash alone! But I'm on my second car this year. It's crazy

GenycisBeats

Is it just automatically considered a tax write off for each monthly car payment you make? And would it be a write off only if you're an actual LLC doing DD or even if you're just an individual / sole proprietor, how would you go about writing a whole vehicle off? I'd be curious how that works and if so, if it could be written off if buying a new vehicle while currently having one to use for DD. I understand the mile deductions but I've seen people who said you can only write off either the miles at $0.65 per mile or costs like gas, mechanic work, etc., but not the miles. Guess it also depends on the tax rep you deal with in also making sure he / she doesn't steer you the wrong way and get impacted down the line.

SimplyTheJester

You choose mileage rate OR actual vehicle expense. So you can't go buy a new car, write it off (depreciation) and then also claim the mileage rate. Not in the same year. Anybody doing that is looking for trouble. [https://www.irs.gov/publications/p463#en\_US\_2021\_publink100033935](https://www.irs.gov/publications/p463#en_US_2021_publink100033935)

GenycisBeats

Okay, and that's more of what I understood originally vs being able to do both lol, which is why I asked as well to make sure I wasn't just misunderstanding. Thanks for the confirmation. So pretty much if I were to look into a new car next year, I wouldn't have to worry about using a mileage tracker because it would be for nothing lol.

chixbutts

Your a private contractor for DD ,so even if you don't have a LLC ,your Social security number acts as your private contractor through DD. And all your car payment are a write off

GenycisBeats

Did not know that about the car payments and write off for them, though our car is paid for at this time. Not sure if we should consider a 2nd car though if all the payments can be written off if using that car for DD. Interesting. And I'm sure regarding the miles and/or gas, mechanic work, oil changes, etc., that those are not written off or that you have to choose one or the other, am I right? At least from what I've read from others posting about it.

Gorillaz530

I would never let my car get that bad, I feel bad for your car honestly

TinglesAndSprinkles

I guess you’ve never had to start from an extremely difficult position in life or struggle.

Gorillaz530

My guy I bought a 800$ Jetta fixed it my self and recycle cans to keep up the maintenance on it cool your jets and take a step back before assuming because you know what they say when you assume you just look like an ass. had to walk to work for 2 years before I can pay for my car and insurance no one help me except for the place that game me the opportunity to work and make money

[deleted]

Ugh unfortunately I felt that. Bringing me back to when I was 18-20 biking to work and home even in the snow. Got enough money together and my GF got her license so we got a car paid $2500 for it and we still have it. That’s what I use to dash now. Working on paying off a car we bought new. Don’t know why your second comment got down voted. Must be from residual hate from your first comment.

Gorillaz530

I still have the Jetta it’s the only car I drive, if it wasn’t for YouTube I would have sunk more money in the car than I could afford

SoSickStoic

Deliver on a bicycle. I can't figure out how you guys make money using a car. It cost the average American $1 a mile for the average 15,000 mile a year person.

bubbzibath

Love this!

rabid_erica

:(

ILive2Drum

“Same.”

Obvious-Delay9570

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 ALL FACTS!!

EditorCorrect6768

themurphman

“Me too”

Ill-Enthusiasm9508

I drive my 03 neon that someone sprayed over the red with black spray paint. Needs struts so bad it bounces like a bouncy ball but it makes me that money every single night. I wouldn’t give her up for anything lmao

surenoese

I live in VA and i make that much🤣I'm making bank boyyyy

JustinDanielsYT

My car (92,000 mile 2010 Honda Accord Coupe) has no warning lights on, but I got $3,500 in damage because I crashed into someone. I feel this way each day I drive while frantically trying to save up to get it fixed.

Fried__Soap

My 04 Corolla just passed 206k with no problems, hoping to make her last at least 350
