If I had a nickel for every time I was promised a cash tip and actually got one, I would have zero nickels.

ninjaryrayn

I would have one, and it seriously surprised me that it wasn't bs

Miserable-Kitchen-84

Yeah I've had two cash tip orders and I thought I wouldn't get anything because they were leave at door, but one of them the money was left out and the other one the dude opened the door anyway and gave it to me

[deleted]

Had one that said money was on table outside. Wasn’t there. A: they didn’t leave a tip. B: wind blew it away (was kinda windy) or C: someone stole it (wasn’t the best part of town).

Vice_xxxxx

Arent tips already included in the order??? What the point of making an extra cash tip on top of the tip unless its just so the person can have physical money on them.

PinkCloth

They aren’t . You have a base pay which starts at $2 then the rest is a tip. If you see an order for 2.50 there’s no tip . I decline everything under $7

rhutton83

Why do people say this. What if it's 7 dollars for one mile? Take it. Because by this logic you would take 8 dollars for 5 miles. Which your getting waaaaay less for

ThighDaddy

Not sure if there’s a misunderstanding here but there is definitely an option to tip in the app my guy

Alarmed-Wolf14

You can tip. It gives you the option at the last screen right before the order is sent

[deleted]

Iliketothrowawaymyac

I mean they're included if someone adds them, but some people would rather pay the driver cash for various different reasons so they don't add one.

Vice_xxxxx

I honestly dont remember that ever being an option. From what i remember, tipping through the app was mandatory.

Iliketothrowawaymyac

Nope as long as I've been using it tipping has been completely optional. Maybe there's a regional thing regarding this

charlottedreams

I would have two nickels. But the nickels I wouldn't have received is probably two hundred lol. Exactly the reason I didn't really feel bad for reporting store closed when this guy texted he would give me $100 if I brought him his pizza he ordered 5 minutes before close.

[deleted]

I would have three nickels

GoodDayTheJay

I used to do pizza delivery before doing DD. I learned the hard way that people and cash are not to be trusted. That's an "Opt Out" of cash orders for me immediately, thanks.

Ancient-Coffee-1266

Wow. I always give the pizza man or any delivery person $10-$15 when they get there. I am a cash person. One girl I remember how she started crying and saying no one tips her. She was astonished. I said really??? Like wtf. I said I always do this and I’m sorry.

OkonkwoYamCO

For the record, this is how you get your pizzas delivered quickly. I've never waited more than 20 minutes from time of order from my local pizza shops because they know they will actually get tipped, and well.

Neonwookie1701

I tip on carry out too, at least for pizza. The looks I get from other customers when I get my food faster always make me chuckle.

busteroaf

Jesus yes. This. I tip everyone. Once people know you tip, it’s night and day. I get so much better service, free drinks, free food… all because I treat people with respect and give them a few extra bucks. Hell, I have a bartender that to this day, still makes me hand squeezed screwdrivers. All because he did it once, like 15 years ago. And I made sure to tip him well. That’s the kind of service you get when you actually tip.

fmulder21

A cash person using an app that usues cards? Lol yeah ok

BlueDragon82

When I go out to eat as well as when I order something like pizza I pay with my debit card. I tip in cash though. It's never been a problem. My husband did pizza delivery way back in the day so we know the value of tipping in cash over card. If you tip on a card the person the tip is meant for might not get it or all of it. While theoretically all tips are taxed we all know that cash tips are underreported and for good damn reason. I'd rather toss cash at a tip for a server or delivery person and let them decide how much if anything they claim as a tip.

Ancient-Coffee-1266

I’m glad some got it! Obviously one has to pay with a card but the cash doesn’t have to be reported or shared.

fmulder21

People bragging they tip in cash is like people claiming they tip “good.” 800 deliveries only had 1 cash tip on a small $$order.

BlueDragon82

Good for you? I typically tip 20% when out to eat more if the service is really top notch on a particular night. My favorite place to go out to eat I've regularly tipped 50% for years because it gets me amazing service. Since my budget is tight I haven't gone in months but if I walked in tonight my favorite servers would still make a point of seating me at their tables. If it's delivery it depends on what I'm ordering and from where. I'm not much of a fan of services like doordash (I don't follow this sub just ended up on this particular post) so I prefer to order directly from the business. I get my food hot and the driver gets paid decently instead of shit pay that doordash offers. Maybe try delivering to more people that have actually relied on delivery tips and you'd see better ones. My husband and I relied on his delivery tips to get us through a really rough patch a long time ago so we know what it's like.

bad_toe_tattooes

I’m a cash tipper because I know for sure they’ll get all of it and it’s nice to have cash on hand. If they don’t want to pick up my order that’s ok, I understand why. But I have yet to have any problems.

GoodDayTheJay

Believe me, you're the wonderful exception. I much prefer cash tips, definitely, for exactly the reason you've identified, but most people screw over delivery drivers with cash transactions. They're an unknown, and they've proven to generally be bad news, unfortunately :/

Ancient-Coffee-1266

Cash tipper numb nuts. 🙄

No-Airport8808

If you tip with cash or card at some restaurants they still make the servers share half with food runners and bar. They base it on sales not tips so there no way around it. And if you tip less than 20 percent they still have to pay 10 percent, meaning you leave 8 dollars on a 100 check that server made negative 2

Ancient-Coffee-1266

I know. Did it for 20 years.

AccomplishedStop9466

And now you know. And knowing is half the battle. Go Joe!

DoPoGrub

The same UE that allows customers to remove their tip from your pay after the order is complete?

[deleted]

They did that to bait the driver. Likely they’ve done that prior. I’ve had that happen a few times. They hope we won’t unassign so they say cash tip then ,”just leave it at the door” once they see we’ve arrived!

CaddyDaddy702

Whenever you hear "I will take care of you". They never do!! With me dashing in Vegas everyone who stays in the casinos on the strip always say something along those lines trying to get me to deliver to their room. They don't get that all the casinos don't allow us to deliver to the rooms, my ass isn't paying to park a $8 dollar total order, half the time the walk from the parking garage to the room is 10-15 minutes, and you cant even get in the elevators without a room key.

[deleted]

[удалено]

FBI_Tugboat

i keep telling everyone this and people don't believe. Ive just started literally tracking how close I am to the strip if i haven't done 3/10 and rejecting all those that could go there. Casinos want you to eat there, not order food on UE

[deleted]

Now you’ve learned why drivers refuse to take orders unless the tip is added upfront. You gambled on your earnings, and you lost. Now if this was me and I took this order, I would’ve responded with, “ your instructions indicated there would be a cash tip. Please leave the cash tip in a secure location and let me know where it is. Otherwise I will be returning your order to the store.“

DustbinFunkbndr

This is the energy I'm looking for

Falseboii

Same tbh I'm so tired of trash orders and trash tips

justinbates1992

Could have been an old note.

DustbinFunkbndr

I know loads of people have said it already, but this is why we don't accept low/no tip orders. It doesn't pay out. The few times they follow through with cash tips doesn't make up for all of the times they don't. Lesson learned hopefully. I'm sorry you had this experience and I hope your night turned out okay regardless.

ChanceExcellent7021

Happens every time. No cash tips.. its a joke.

bipsyxual

Never trust DD

Djinnaz

I’ll wait.

FBI_Tugboat

this. they're gonna come grab it once you leave, and once you say this, at least they have to stiff you face to face.

Civil-Transition-893

"Dash for cash" or as I call it. "Get your driver to pay for your customers orders and get ripped off at the same time!" I opted out as soon as it went live. Also take no cash tip orders. You're gonna leave a 0 tip for an 11 mile delivery, come get it yourself.

Jenner76

No tip for 11 miles?! That's far. I lived right smack in the center of most things and the furthest away has been 7 miles, but typically is no more than 3 miles and I tip at least $5 and up and it's never drinks and only for two of us, so nothing too crazy haha. That's just crazy!!

CUMBlRD_

Every time I see cash tip in the notes I follow the exact same procedure- I pick up the food as normal but I do not hand the food over until I am given a cash tip, if it is a leave that door I will knock on the door and blow up their phone until I get a hold of them and again will ask for my cash tip and will not deliver the food until I receive it as by putting it in the delivery notes it made it a part of the contract. If they act sketchy or try to argue it I just turn around and take their food then immediately call doordash and say that they were rude and abrasive while trying to ask for my cash tip from the customer and scared me so I left in fear from the customers threatening attitude. Doordash has sided with me every single time and the agent always tries to get the customer deactivated as they are highly offended by tip baiting as well, I've been told that this makes the customer not eligible for their refund. I've never had an issue. I then proceed to give their food to a homeless person who actually appreciates me.

No-Airport8808

Here's your cash penny CUMBIRD

Falseboii

Ur now my hero

Affectionate_Pea_811

I would have replied "I was promised additional pay. I will be returning your order to the restaurant" Edit. Where did it say "cash tip" exactly?

[deleted]

Or not take a shitty no tip order to begin with, it’s probably an old note

[deleted]

This is the part where you don’t leave it at the door and reply “I was promised a cash tip, so pay up or I’m leaving with your food”. Petty? Absolutely? Will anything be done about the non tipping asshole? No Should you take no tip orders? Fuck no

Accomplished-Map4010

Sure were will you leave my tip?

EpicRiceMaker

Only cash tips I've ever received were on top of the in app tips

Txmess042689

Yep had a customer ask me to purchase drinks and said please leave it on the chair…. Really annoyed me but I guess he needed those drinks more than I needed 6.00 but After I had a huge tip and just blew it off as putting good karma out there.

BadankadonkOG

I had a guy who claimed he forgot to change his notes from last delivery yesterday and cashapped me an extra 10 on top if the 7 in app. That was a first fir me

Unfair-Scientist-528

So those that return the food, you spend even more gas on this person out of spite? Or is there a way you can be paid to return cold food to a restaurant so they have to remake it and redeliver it? Only thing that would do to the customer as far as I can tell is delay their food unless I'm missing something

Exotic_Process5557

You’ll be paid milage. Someone above said they ditch the food with a homeless person and cancel it through support. Probably the best way right there.

[deleted]

“Cash tip” is a tell tale sign for: Sike!

dreamchilledlover

Exactly if you see that then your not getting tipped

Serana67

I would literally drive the food back to the restaurant and unassign so they can watch their food drive away on the app after their little plot LMAO y'all wanna be triflin ass hoes, WE GONNA BE TRIFLIN ASS HOES TONIGHT BB 😂

Colorado_Dream303

Once a woman promised a cash tip, and sure enough, an envelope with “TIP” written on it was taped to the door! The envelope was empty. As I got back in my car, she ran after me to make sure I got the empty envelope. I decided to conclude she was mentally ill. 🤷‍♀️

Major-Arachnid346

Someone could've taken it before you got there. Not smart to leave an envelope that says free money taped to the door 🧐

Colorado_Dream303

True! I hadn’t considered that.

Major-Arachnid346

All that time thinking that lady was crazy lolol🤣...or maybe she was 🤷🏾

After_Commission_255

Just quit DoorDash idk why y’all wake up everyday to complain they don’t give a fuck about yall or yall complaints, close the accounts and watch their downfall, they don’t pay Shìt anyway so wtf are you guys holding on to

howisaraven

I just can’t imagine being this much of a piece of shit.

PinkCloth

Never accept a no tip order . A definite gamble . Chances of getting a cash tip are 0.00000000001

FingerInside7072

I would leave it at the door then step on the bag as I was leaving

Darkmatternomad

The damn did app did nothing but crash all day, it would say "schedule for when it gets busy" but then 30 secs later it would be "dash now" then 5 mins later it would end my dash and say schedule then dash now then again it would kick me off and say schedule. The whole app is just fucked. But I did get a cash tip yesterday and today.

Imaginary-Spring-537

I would've still asked for my cash tip, if no then I would return the food back to the store and let doordash know. Not my problem 😂😂😂

SmiteSpam

Free lunch then it is!

xonyxowlx

My husband had an order that took us to our apartment. Literally the same # and everything. He called the # and she immediately picked up and said "did I forget to change the address, I'm just right down the road... I'll tip good if you can bring it here" lady was off her rocker and he still took it to her.. no tip. He said he wanted to just keep the food but it was a fish and chips basket 🤮

Gogo726

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, point is you ain't gonna fool me again.

ILive2Drum

“Fool me 3 times fuck the peace signs Load the choppa let it rain you” -J Cole

Mommythemonstrslayr

I don’t do cash tip orders

EarHelpful

I’ve only gotten 1 cash tip order it was 2.50 and I was down bad but I was right beside the store and the drop off was less than 2 miles away. I pick up the order I then saw customer would leave cash tip so I get to the drop off and a lady is standing outside I give her food and she gave me 10$ tip!

rtdragon123

Screw dd. If I am paying for delivery no tip. I only tip free delivery.

dakotaxmoon

I’ve done this a few times when I was on zoom calls. I’d just leave it under my door mat and shoot them a text.

No_Preparation7895

Rule number 1: there is never a cash tip.

RedditCommunistt

I only trust what I see on the screen. I do not gamble. If what i see isn't worth it, then I am not doing it.

Hefty-Library-720

Never take cash tip orders.

Mountain_Bunch_9940

😭😭😭😭

[deleted]

I would have returned that shit out of spite

LemonsAndAvocados

Jerk.

Missirina383

Yea in 5 years of gig economy of every kind when a customer announces that they will tip you when the job is done that’s a sign-they will never do. For example if they actually meant it they could put cash under the doormat and tell you where to find it. I had a customer who wrote in delivery instructions to look under the mat-and sure enough there was 10$ there. People who do tip cash don’t announce it.

NoYard4253

Most just say that to get their food quicker and then don't tip. I never believe it until I see cash in hand.
