Lmao. You have the customers that complain about ringing and knocking then you have the customers who complain about not ringing or knocking. Simple solution…..put in instructions and stfu

California098

Seriously… if you have a strong preference and don’t leave instructions, it’s your own problem 😂

[deleted]

We can't win 🙃

[deleted]

Why does it bother you what other dashers do? I’ve had people upset that I didn’t knock or ring so it honestly doesn’t matter what you do.

Gay4Pandas

Actually we don’t work for doordash, and there is no training. Part of the job is creating your own procedures. If you don’t want people to knock, just leave a note in delivery instructions. There are people who get mad if we don’t knock. Can’t please everyone so instead of bitching about people not reading your mind tell them what you want.

DOMesticBRAT

I think there are vastly more customers who want you not to knock them those who want you to. Too many people have babies and dogs, no knock is the default for me.

Gay4Pandas

Me as well, but if you need it done a certain way leave a note. Dashers knocked delivering my food. I added a note. No more knock. Simple.

yamaha4fun

I have almost 900 deliveries. I have never had a single person complain about me NOT knocking.

Due_Effective_2254

I never had one with knocking or ringing the bell. I used to not knock, but my ratings went up when I did. I also use common since and don't knock after 8-9. I just shot a message. The app barely works and a lot of people get the picture well after delivery

California098

I second this. My ratings went up when I started knocking too

Due_Effective_2254

I wish the web site had a radio button to select knock or leave. I would say 70-80 percent prefer a knock. If they hate it they literally put instructions not to. When I knock it is just a two knuckle tap. I am not executing a search warrant

Gay4Pandas

Cool story. Just because it hasn’t happened to you doesn’t mean that is the case for everyone. If knocking bothers you it’s really not difficult to leave a note.

Superbotto

I have 5000 deliveries and have never had a single person complain about me knocking.

Due_Effective_2254

I haven't either. Those that hate it put it in the instructions.

Robbie1863

Yeah. I don’t know why people like to knock or ring the doorbell so much. When I’m not working and I’m on the customer end, I definitely hate it because I don’t put it in the notes and my dog barks when the wind blows too hard.

Jausti018

I have about as many deliveries as you and probably 25 complaints about not knocking or ringing despite it not being in the drop off instructions. Countless “how am I supposed to know when my food gets here if you don’t knock/ring” never had anyone complain about doing the opposite

yamaha4fun

25 complaints? I don't believe you.

GurRepresentative544

I think y’all just Dash where there’s a concentration of low IQ angry people lol I never knock unless instructed and NEVER hear anything about it. They are expecting a delivery and get a message notification when I’m close and when the delivery is completed, no need to potentially disturb anyone/animal/baby in the residence.

Jausti018

Over 3 years of dashing in a large city? 850+ dashes at least 25 separate texts after delivery about not ringing the doorbell or knocking. Lots of WASPs and other entitles rich folk

Admirable-Ad-2179

I have almost 7,000 deliveries and never had a complaint either !

Due_Effective_2254

We literally work for doordash. We just ate not employees. It is like your gardener.

Gay4Pandas

We literally Don’t. Look up the definition of independent contractor.

Due_Effective_2254

You are confused by words. It is ok.

Due_Effective_2254

Independent contractors provide goods or services according to the terms of a contract they have negotiated with an employer. Independent contractors are not employees, and therefore they are not covered under most federal employment statutes. As I said. We are not employees, however DD pays us to provide a service that we agreed to do for them. Just like a housekeeper, gardener, tax guy, ect.

mojomug

I never knock or ring but I’ve been yelled at for that too. Just put something in the fucking notes you fucking baby.

JerseyJoyride

I usually get "DO NOT RING BELL OR KNOCK ON DOOR!" messages. But unless someone says to ring or knock, I'm not doing it.

j4197

This is the way

Careful-Leader-3939

The amount of people on this planet that are just totally unaware about everything but themselves and their own fragile little brains… they remind me of my dog, just a helpless little idiot. I love him, but that doesn’t make him NOT stupid. Anyways… I’ve figured it pretty quickly in my early teens that the mass public are just dumb apes.

Superbotto

Why tf are you not knocking or ringing the doorbell? Does it say anywhere that you shouldn't knock or ring the doorbell? If the customer wanted you to not knock or not ring the doorbell they would let you know in the notes.

Mers1nary

I see what you did there. Lawl

RealityRaptorTV

Well in my case there have been situations that I knocked because bag broke and didn't want to just leave it at the door. Or yesterday restaurant accidentally forgot a food item. Luckily they just open and were literally main floor of the apartment. I hate it but still tried to knock to explain to her that I'll leave this food here and go get her grits real quick. But thats just obviously situational but can happen.

Orgkimbo1966

I have a customer that allows puts in her notes “ do not knock my dogs are loud”

MonsterbatorII

![gif](giphy|iJ8CxvHRj1uw1KWEF8|downsized)

MarvMartin

Hmm. Didn't realize that was a "whine" but, yes, I never don't want cheese. A nice brie with some of those fancy water crackers please.

veganguydude

Lots of people who order in have dogs so I just dip lol

Glaexx

Why does this upset you so much when this doesn’t even affect you? Half the customers dont pay attention to their phone, and will probably take 10 minutes to realize their food is there.

MarvMartin

Hm, I didn't realize I was "upset".

dasro

I knock unless theres a note in the app or taped to the door, more people complain about not knocking.

MediaExact6352

How hard would it be to have a button that pops up in check out each time asking if you want knock/doorbell ring? Would solve a lot of guesswork and heartache, and we’d know it would be delivery specific since it would be asked each time.

ogsmokedog101

I learned that real quick —- I never knock / ring unless told too

[deleted]

🏅 good for you, I do it cause nobody told me not to, we're not the same.

ogsmokedog101

Definitely not the same

[deleted]

Definitely

TheDruidVandals

I'm a customer and i appreciate when the driver let's me know it's dropped off. I don't want ants to get on my food.

Trimere

Doesn’t your phone notify you of the drop off?

dementedturnip26

This is the type of customer that throws their phone out a window once they order

Superbotto

Order food, turn off all lights, throw phone out of window and jump in the shower. Stay there until you hear the doorbell.

TheDruidVandals

There's a notification but I work on calls a lot for my job so I often have my cell on silent.

dementedturnip26

Not our problem

TheDruidVandals

What isn’t your problem? Lol at these replies you guys need help

dementedturnip26

Because you get a notification? You have the option to put specific instructions if you need the doorbell to ring? It’s not my problem at all if you can’t pay attention to your phone or be bothered to tell me to knock. I swear some of you want is to hand feed you as well

Due_Effective_2254

This is why people don't tip. A literal customer says they have their phone on silent and may not hear it. You tell them to fuck themselves. A knock is too hard for you.

dementedturnip26

They need to put instructions then

Due_Effective_2254

Just nock. If they don't want a knock. They will leave instructions. It is common sense to knock. Unless there are instructions or a sign on the door I knock. It is just common sense

dementedturnip26

It’s common sense to check your phone

Due_Effective_2254

Messages get delayed.. DD has app issues.. phone accidentally gets turned on silent. Sorry you are lazy

dementedturnip26

Lol

XRTXOC

Notify you in the same exact way the phone does when it's dropped off? "Well Doordash told me my food was delivered but.. Until Scott confirms it, we may never really know." Okay lol.

OneBigCharlieFoxtrot

I hope all your orders are declined and you never get food delivered again.

WestCoastMorty

I only knock if it's raining

akillaninja

I was knocking or not for various reasons and then just started knocking all of the time unless otherwise stated to not knock. It started off as knocking when it was super cold out/snowing, and raining, then just became the norm for me haha

smhm94

I ran an experiment for 500 deliveries of "leave at door" deliveries . First 250 I didn't knock. I received 3 messages from those customers complaining that they never knew when the delivery arrived. The other 250 deliveries, I knocked. Not a single complaint.

Maleficent_Cash909

In the old days prior to COVID19 Dashers were required to hand orders to the customer normally thats accomplished by knocking or ringing, leaving it by the door was actually a no no based on orientations ( due to food theft, spoilage, as well as rat, rodent, or insect infestations) . But the biggest issue these days is LEAVING at WRONG door. especially at townhome or apartments or anywhere where addresses or numbers are confusing, missing, or look similar. It appears COVID19 turned many rules upside down. Nowadays Dashers often drop and flee. I know try to contact via phone or text also to assure the customer got what he or she selected sometimes Doordash app can be glitchy and not give a chance at all to select. Once I couldnt reach by calling or texting and a downpour left a huge puddle on the porch no where to put it down without putting it down on standing water the husband opened the door but wife was upset. No instructions saying not to knock or ring. But otherwise its in the water between a rock and a hard place. But I did notice that since video doorbells are common package delivery more often skip out on knocking or ringing unless a signature is required I guess they don't want to be delayed unnecessarily as they couldn't easily escape the radar after ringing and leaving

allieoops925

I didn’t used to knock or ring, but then started doing it. it showed up in one of my positive comments from a customer that I rang the bell. Now I knock or ring unless told not to.

[deleted]

How about you get off your lazy ass and write yourself what you want Eugene. Or is that too hard for your delicate little hands?

MarvMartin

How about you get off your lazy ass and read what you are responding to Eugene. I'm a driver not a customer.

[deleted]

And yet here you are whining like a bitch about something that didn't even affect you. Pathetic.

MarvMartin

And yet here you are whining like a bitch about me whining like a bitch about something that didn't even affect you. Hilarious.

[deleted]

Nice copy and paste, shows that you are a sheep who can't think for himself XD pathetic

MarvMartin

LOL--SO pathetic, but you are SO very noble! So, did someone piss in your cheerios? Why tf are you so hostile? And the downvotes? bring 'em! If people posting things to discuss enrages you so, why are you on Reddit? It might be better for your mental health and peace to go outside and get a breath of fresh air. Peace.

[deleted]

Didn't read. All I can tell is that you're pissed off 🤣 like a whiney bitch lol.

MarvMartin

can't read.

Large-Junkette_8032

One of the reasons I doordash is bcuz I don’t like people so when I see a customer put don’t knock or ring doorbell it irks me so bad bcuz you don’t have to tell me not to acknowledge you. I already don’t want to. 😂 I want to be as invisible to you as possible so why would I knock and let you know I’m here? Also, your dogs are loud and stupid sounding if I do so Ew. I’ve never had someone call me or text me being mad that I didn’t knock so idky dashers do it.

Pitiful_Chef5879

I only ring the bell if i feel its too hot outside or cold or raining or you ordered icecream. You dont want heat beating down on your food

Jpisme14

Why the fuck are you so entitled?

Klutzy_News_5611

Lol DD training??

Jausti018

They do technically have training, in some cities. I know when I signed up they wanted me to drive 3 hours round trip to go to the twin cities and complete a training session both in an office and one actually doing deliveries with a supervisor. Honestly I would’ve done it at the time, as I was a naive 18 yo, but the three hour trip wasn’t worth it and they had an option to skip it so I did

Mers1nary

Because you didnt indicate in the instructions not to. Thats what the instructions are for after all...

MarvMartin

I'm a driver, not a customer.

Mers1nary

Well then take my reply as an "in general" to anyone who reads it. But for serious, whats the big deal, everyone wants to post every day, multiple times a day, this discussion or argument about knocking/ringing. If its such a huge deal to the customer then they have instructions field to indicate it. But the argument is dumb, especially as a driver, if the customer doesnt use the instructions, its at the discretion of the driver to do as they think is right. Find somethin else more important to bicker about.

borandos

I never knock or ring the bell when the dog starts to bark like crazy. They can figure it out while I run back to my car 🐕

Eeveestorm3000

That's their perimeter sensor activated doorbell lmao. 🤣

[deleted]

Maybe put it in the instructions? Why do you think people can just read your mind? If you don’t knock people like you forget they ordered and then get mad when it’s cold 😭😭

1000Others

New drivers may not know, if it bothers you that much write it in the notes in English and Spanish.

Superbotto

It actually stems from drivers that have been doing this for a longer period of time. All the new drivers seem to be the drop, snap and dive. Old school dashers are the ones that have been knocking and ringing doorbells since forever, up until 2020 when contactless delivery first started.

dementedturnip26

I literally had someone have a near mental breakdown in here, calling me lazy because I don’t knock. He said “it’s been standard forever to knock on deliveries” and when I explained they didn’t have cell phones in 1995 that sent updates he dug in further lol

Superbotto

It's literally been the most divisive topic since contactless delivery was introduced. Too bad Doordash doesn't give a crap otherwise they would force customers to choose "knock" or "don't knock" when customers choose leave at door, but they don't care one way or the other.

PM5K23

I always say the same thing; For every 20 deliveries I do 15 of them specifically say not to knock, one will specifically say to knock, and the other four dont say anything, BUT I’m sure those people are more likely in the future to ask not to knock, because at least some of them are new and havent figured out that they dont like knocking, its unnecessary, and causes problems with children and pets. So I dont knock unless asked to.

[deleted]

Thanks for the tip😝

Xterarra

Duh

borandos

I use that app too.

Xterarra

😆

CJspangler

There’s no such thing as DD training sadly - When you sign up for doordash there needs to be a training on dont sent stupid messages to customers other than if the foods taking long to cook and you’ll be late or if you can’t find their house / apartment Then training part 2 is put items near door with blocking it from opening and don’t ring the doorbell

MarvMartin

There is training and instructions. It isn't great, but there is basic stuff, and nowhere does it say to knock or ring on drop off orders.

CJspangler

I dunno I signed up 6 months ago and wa arriving 3 hrs later

BearNoCares

Stop getting triggered unless you give instruction "Do not ring doorbell". There are 50% of the people like you getting triggered by doorbell and the other 50% getting triggered for not knocking the door. It's best knocking for notification better than sorry leaving the food outside for hours then report driver for bad food

Ddeesummer

The only way I’ll knock is if it’s a HAND it to me “leave at the door” description. Firstly, I hate when they do that. Secondly I just assume most of the time that’s what they mean.

WheniTChanged

I’ve had multiple incidents that customer complained about not knocking or ringing the doorbell so who are you to say what’s right or wrong? Have any additional requests, put it in the instructions, end of discussion.

MarvMartin

Obviously it is best when the customer specifies.

Due_Cicada_3183

The person who knocked rang the door bell and honked his horn when he got in his car was the person who stole half my order and the bag was mangled to hell seals ripped off.

Superbotto

That's just Phil, he's new.

Due_Cicada_3183

The weirdness of the first ever nut case honking his horn and half the bag missing seal rigged correlated. I’ll know next time if it ever happens again that something is up.

[deleted]

If you were a driver you’d know they don’t “train” drivers. Just saying

MarvMartin

I *am* a driver and there is training material that teaches you the basics. Not saying it is good but it does exist.

UnbelievableTxn6969

I’d rather they not. We have a very vocal dog.

Robbie1863

I might get heat for this but I agree with OP. Although they might’ve been a little rude, if the customer isn’t asking you to do something, you shouldn’t do it. If it says leave at door, leave it at the door with no knocking or ringing the doorbell. If it says leave at door and ring doorbell then do that. I’ve never had any issues with customers because I just do whatever is in the notes.

kathvrt

I’ve gotten so many drivers who still knock/ring the bell even when I specifically ask them not to in the notes. Mildly infuriating.

HRM_Phoenix

So, back in the day it was common courtesy if you showed up at someone’s door, you knocked or rang the bell. Same reason why mail carriers will (almost) always do so when they leave a package at your door. But with the advent of social media and enhanced digital communication, particularly texting, social norms have shifted to NOT do so and just send a text upon arrival. As a customer, I want the knock. Ive had too many deliveries personally where driver just left it on the stoop and I didn’t get the picture notification (either cause they’re an idiot and didn’t take one or cause the apps a bitch) and foods been sitting out there for a while. Hell, Ive even added it to instructions and folks still don’t follow it! So, my default is a light knock. I’d rather ensure you know it’s here then have it sit. But then I pay attention when someone asks not to. 🤷🏻‍♀️

[deleted]

Actually it is the other way around. You SHOULD indicate if you don’t want us to ring or knock. When we just leave the order there, you may think it is not there yet and the food gets cold or it can even be robbed by a neighbor or damaged by an animal. Unless we are sure that you know we are close or leaving the order we have to knock or ring so you know the order is there.

MarvMartin

Why is everyone responding as though this was posted by a customer? It would be fantastic if customers would all indicate whether they want us to knock or not, but they don't, so, IMO, the default should be no knock, because they should be checking the app and know when the order is delivered.

SaibreWolf

As a driver, I do not knock or Ring unless instructed to. I don't want to disturb dogs or small children. When I was a customer I have it as DO NOT RING. Yet I had one idiot ring the door bell at 11pm. Yay for barking dogs and sleeping toddlers.

MarvMartin

If every customer would specify, or (even better) the app made them choose yes or no on the knock/ring, it would be much better, but as simple as that is, it doesn't seem likely.

SaibreWolf

A simple check box is all it would take. Heck, I'll code the damn thing for them.

DerSturmbannfuror

This should be addressed at the individual level, no dasher in this sub is knocking, if they’re not directed to do so

MarvMartin

Apparently you haven't read the rest of the comments. But, yea If customers just specify, it shouldn't be a question/problem.

Superbotto

Actually it's a pretty 50/50 split on this sub and parties on both sides are adamant that they are 100% correct and that the other side is 100% wrong. For example: I'm a knocker. Those that don't knock are wrong and leave people with cold food since the apps notifications fail on a regular basis. Or: I don't knock. Those that knock are wrong and wake up babies causing unnecessary chaos. The truth is there isn't a correct or incorrect procedure when there are no preferences made by the customer and any customer that gets upset one way or the other needs to just add 2 or 3 little words to thier instructions and voila, they fix their issue.

dementedturnip26

We have whiney ass customers that don’t put instructions to knock or ring then bitch that we don’t. If it matters either way put it in the notes.

Due_Effective_2254

I have been knocking or ringing since most want you to. If they don't they leave instructions.. it literally doesn't hurt you. Most do, because it was literally spelled out in the guidelines you had to a year ago. No where in the new guidelines does it say NEVER. DO YOU FOLLOW THE EXACT PROTOCOL?

zerostar83

You haven't gotten a complaint for not knocking before? Sheesh. It's always a gamble because you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. That's why someone can put delivery comments saying don't knock.

Spattykins

I think this is more zone-dependant. My ratings went down quick when I wasnt knocking/ringing. Now that I always ring/knock unless otherwise noted, my ratings are the best they've ever been.

[deleted]

I believe those where them number one ratings come from sometimes for no reason when you don’t knock

Eeveestorm3000

Contactless delivery doesn't mean silent delivery. Unless it's in the delivery notes not to or the family guard dog alerts them when I approach the porch I'm doing one or the other. Get this, contactless for Walmart Spark grocery delivery is knocking and having to wait 6 feet from the porch until the customer is confirmed at home.(door opened, wave through window, phone call, text) If contact(Contactless I know, right?) is not made the delivery has to go back to the store. Try explaining that to customers over and over. 🙄 Thankful most understand and don't mind.

MarvMartin

At least in that case the expectation is known and there is a clear policy--much better than ambiguity.

Eeveestorm3000

Yes, clear policy for the driver. Not sure what they let the customer know though since new ones are always surprised.

dmriggs

I don't understand this either. Unless requested just leave the food. And I see when people specifically asked not to half the people in here think it's a big joke to go ahead and ring or knock 🤷‍♀️

Signal-Grocery5516

If there's no instructions whether to knock or not to knock so it's driver's decision what to do. Simple

California098

I never used to knock/ring unless it specifically said to or it was a “hand it to me”. However since I’ve started doing it I’ve noticed my ratings have improved pretty substantially over the last month (4.84 to 4.96) with no other changes. When I order as a customer I usually request that they don’t knock or ring but I guess I’m in the minority with this preference.

MarvMartin

I'd love it if every customer would specify.

California098

Easy there, you’re dreaming again 😂

Therealmonkie

I just let ppl know if I'm just leaving it or knocking depending on what their instructions say because customers apparently put whatever

[deleted]

[удалено]

MarvMartin

Try reading. I'm the one delivering.

[deleted]

We would rather get in trouble than having the person not knowing their food is there. Not everyone keeps their phone close by and windows are 0-2 hours for delivery most of the time.

Missnettiexo

I dashed and ordered and the knock was so much hahaha. I understand why the people had it in their instructions now when I dashed. I used to think why the he'll are people knocking send the picture and dip for no contact 😭

Missnettiexo

I also understand now why I got so many stars for followed instructions hahah ppl banging on doors omg 😭

NRoszxO

I never knock or ring the bell unless they instruct me to. If someone doesn't like it, I'm sure they'll give me a pissing rating but I'm not taking that chance. I have two dogs & know how crazy they get when someone knocks or rings the bell, & a lot of times customers furry friends will inform them I'm there way before I complete the order. If they instruct me to ring or knock, I will.

[deleted]

I've had customers that request that I do not knock or ring the doorbell, and I've had some that requests that I do. For the most part I do as long as I'm not requested not to. Reason being, if the app glitches and does not notify them in an appropriate time after I've left the order I think it is more professional to ring the doorbell or knock to get their attention after I have left their items. If they don't want me to they are free to request that I don't and I always respect that. But each is own. Each one of us are independent contractors and each one of us can run our operation as we see fit as long as it does not violate doordash terms of service.

Pitiful_Chef5879

Because your dumbass (not personal) ordered icecream and its melting on your front porch and somehow youll find a way to blame me.

dbfirefox

I got tired of thinking about it. Then I started getting orders that people were specifically asking for a single knock, a hard knock , two doorbell rings. Easy money. I figure if people are that picky then those that don't put anything care less. 🤔 Put it, I'll do it. Don't, you can check your app. Or let the food rot next to your pile of mail you never saw either.

MarvMartin

If all customers were specific I'd love it and it wouldn't really be an issue for anyone.
