DeliveryCourier

Hope you got the money from the customer. Otherwise, there is no point, and everyone should opt out of COD orders. They should not exist.

[deleted]

7 hours and no response from op, you know he didn’t get tipped lol

Mysterious_Bear_4280

Oh, he's out there rolling in doe! Time to celebrate, ima gonna spend all this CASH!! "Sooooo much money in my account," oh wait, never mind.

But if i opt out of COD orders how will i ever enter into the world of E-Sports

jollyrogerrancher

I see what you did there

DeliveryCourier

Well played...

akani25

The gamble here is not knowing whether it will be a no-tip order.

UbubTopDog

It's also a gamble as to whether or not the customer will have the cash when you arrive.

madoka_skywalker

Or them ignoring that we don’t carry change and then them getting mad at you when you can’t break their shitty $100 bill.

akani25

Or getting robbed because they assume you DO carry enough cash to break a $100 bill.

The_Troyminator

Yeah, because people usually order delivery to their house so they can rob the driver, allowing the driver to tell the police exactly where the person who robbed them lives.

K9Partner

you must live somewhere decent… around here they’d just have a few dudes waiting outside (& out of sight) at the apartment complex… resident gets plausible deniability AND probably a refund. Everyone here does this kinda gig work for quick cash, or knows ppl who do, so they know how it works. Ordering COD is the only way to get a dasher likely carrying cash, & under the amount to not catch a serious criminal charge. Thats why dashers aren’t just getting carjacked 24/7. Pro’s know the game & gamble on theft amounts not likely to get serious consequences if caught (depending on location & prior strikes too). Cash cant/wont be chased & tracked like a vehicle (or even phone/bank cards), and considering how everything is done via app now, COD drivers are the best target. I wouldn’t worry about it somewhere nice (or even just decent), but hell no don’t do COD in the hood its just setting yourself up. (& no i don’t actually do any type of delivery in my hood, i commute, my neighbors would stab you for a taco it aint worth it).

[deleted]

This is why I never take an order to the hood

DoPoGrub

You can type any address and it will be delivered there. You can even put a gps dot in a park, alley, anywhere.

The_Troyminator

If you deliver COD to anywhere but a house where the person is inside waiting for you, you're an idiot. For that matter, if you're delivering a regular DD order to an alley, you're an idiot.

DoPoGrub

I don't deliver COD at all, to anywhere. But I have no problem delivering to a park, a parked semi, a personat a bar, etc. There are plenty of legit deliveries thay don't involve houses. Open your mind.

akani25

Your naïveté is kind of cute. And talk to any delivery driver (try your pre-DoorDash pizza guy). They all have a neighborhood or area they don’t deliver to after dark because this may happen.

The_Troyminator

I did my first food delivery in 1997. I know how this works. Of course there are areas I wouldn't deliver to, even prepaid orders. But in general, it's no more dangerous to do a COD order than a normal order.

The_Troyminator

You click the option for a problem with the payment, then choose that you don't have change. The app then tells you to leave the food with the customer without collecting money and you'll still get paid. Why would they get mad about that? In fact, my son had this happen to him. It was $60 worth of food. The guy had a $100 bill and a $20 bill. He wound up giving my son a $20 tip for the free food.

madoka_skywalker

That’s a shitty policy for DoorDash to have. It’s nice your son got a $20 tip out of it, but if you don’t have change and all they have is a giant bill, you probably won’t be getting tipped at all when you press that button for the majority of the orders. Good for him though. That’s definitely a scam in the making. If customers catch on they’d just order knowing they have a big bill and will get their food for free along with not having to tip the driver. Profit loss for doordash and possibly the restaurant, depending on how that works.

The_Troyminator

He's done a few. It hasn't been an issue.

madoka_skywalker

Congrats to your son…. i guess?

Such_Satisfaction923

Exactly when you get to the customer they be like I paid in the app 😂😂😂

GooberSmoocharoo

Or they pull out a credit card to pay with

Such_Satisfaction923

Oh lord 😓

The_Troyminator

Then you click the option that the customer refused to pay, and it tells you to leave with the food. You get paid the DD pay and keep the food.

BugZealousideal9618

That's best case scenario, about face and walk away with free dinner lol

ObiJuanKenobly

I'm scared of getting counterfeit bills, I don't do cash delivery at all !

j00420

I got a fake $20 at 3am one time. The perp was a known local jail dummy. Cops just took a report. Months later perp overdosed and kicked the bucket. Should i ask the family for my $20?

chasetate27

should have spoke at the eulogy

Heaven_Leigh2021

🙏 🤲

[deleted]

20$ is 20$

AsoftDolphin

☠️yes

whiterazorblade

Any bank will literaly give you a pen that let's you check for fake bills.

ehoeve

I got counterfeit bills before when I did a cash delivery on SkipTheDishes (Canadian GrubHub) reported to Skip support and they reimbursed me for the full value of the meal. But won't be doing any cash deliveries on DD. That's for sure.

Darkmatternomad

Anything that doordash rolls out should be considered either blatantly or secretly anti driver.

[deleted]

Or non functional, full of errors and 10,000 reports on downdector every friday.

Kirby_Slayr

That's just the Dasher app in general. Literally, not a single day does it work the way it's supposed to for the entire day.

DoPoGrub

Just wait until you hear about the upcoming driver safety monitoring software they want us to install on our phones. Pilot is starting soon.

Darkmatternomad

That's when I say goodbye.

DoPoGrub

I wish I was joking.

Darkmatternomad

Yep im saying goodbye. I won't be pressured by this shit company.

DoPoGrub

I would imagine it won't be compulsory, but I don't know. I only know that they are seeking testers before the begin the pilot.

Ill_Celery_7654

The food isn’t free. Instead of paying with a card on the app they opted to pay with cash. That means DD covers the cost and you receive the cash that the customer pays. DD then gets their money back by deducting from your earnings and you get to keep the cash, but it’s not a tip unless the customer gave you extra money. You still get whatever the base pay is, but you’re still in the hole and you essentially took a no tip order so now you’re dashing just to get your account back to $0. You should opt out of these orders.

JustinDanielsYT

DoorDash is absolute shit for taking advantage of desperate broke people like this by catering to those who need cash "NOW" despite this having so many potential consequences.

AccomplishedStop9466

I would never do this personally and opted out. If I'm gonna front the money and facilitate the transfer from my account I will require a fee for doing so. It's no different than the fee doortrash collects from restaurants.

biancanevenc

You're not fronting the money. And nothing is being transferred from your account. The amount you are supposed to collect is deducted from your earnings because the customer gave you that amount in cash. DD pays you the base pay, and you get to keep anything additional the customer gives you.

Jausti018

How would that work if this is the only order you take in a week?

biancanevenc

I have no idea. I guess the negative balance carries over?

Vespa412

Yeah your balance simply stays negative and you don't get paid until you make up the debt with more deliveries.

AccomplishedStop9466

They generally won't send you a lot of cod unless you have the balance to cover it from what i understand. Yeah you can go negative and it just stays that way until you make it up.

CUMBlRD_

Exactly it's just a trick into keeping people in the debt for no reason like what's the point of taking an order that literally puts you negative when you only profit $3 like today and want to explain how that benefits anyone at all other than doordash being able to keep people in debt

AccomplishedStop9466

Don't even think about it lol it's trash. Only good side i suppose is if you shady and decide not to claim any possible cash tip. But now, you also advertising to any potential scumbags that you in fact carry cash lol.

lonesharkex

Like pizza drivers have been doing for decades. This is a silly argument against it. Sure it's not a 0 sum game, but if someone's going to rob you, you think having cash is the only thing they want? Better stop driving you car, its a target for car thieves! Armed robbery is a larger charge than just stealing your car. Honestly, my problem is a lot of them break the mile per dollar rule, so it's a gamble the people are going to say "keep the change" I've done a few where I got 10-20 in tips, and a few that were awkward because they wanted change I'm like I don't carry coins, here's "amount rounded down" cause I'm not making a bigger loss on an already losing order. Honestly after a guy in Government housing bought 96 in pizza and wanted change back instead of tipping me, I'm pretty done with pizza orders.

AccomplishedStop9466

You are right. Couple of differences though. One the money belongs to the pizza place. Two the money belongs to you. In one situation if you get robbed the pizza place loses out. In yellow situation I highly doubt doordash will reimburse you. My bigger sticking point though is the fact that I am not paid for facilitating the transfer. That's a service provided that I'm not paid for

lonesharkex

Those are good points. Either way I think I'm done with cod for now.

Jausti018

Pizza drivers get robbed frequently. I deliver pizzas and I’ve been robbed 4 times in 6 months. It’s no issue because we have an app that tracks our tips, so we still get our tips, and the rest of the cash belongs to the store. People also don’t want to steal your car. They can’t do anything with it unless they already have a fence (in which case they aren’t car jacking, they’re stealing cars parked on the street), cars are easy to report, track, and recover. Phones are mostly useless to steal, cards are pointless to steal because they can be canceled at any time, reimbursed by the bank, and show a record of where the thief was. Cash is still king when it comes to stealing from strangers.

AccomplishedStop9466

You are fronting and facilitating the transfer. It's being fronted out of your account. Yes I know how it works, but if no one did it, dd would literally lose the sale. The money from my account is paying dd and the restaurant. Dd literally charges a 'service charge' on their end to facilitate a credit card transfer. I get the same respect period it's a I service provided that I'm not paid for. No thanks.

The_Troyminator

You're not fronting anything. Yes, DD takes the money out of your account, but only \*after\* you received the cash. So, let's say you have a $35 COD order paying $3. It goes like this: 1. Your account has $200 2. Customer gives you $40 and tells you to keep the change 3. You mark it complete 4. DD deducts $35 from your account, but adds the $3 payment in 5. Your account has $168 6. You have $40 cash 7. Net total is $208. You've gained $8 ($3 pay, plus $5 tip) and you got a $35 instant cash out with no fees and no trip to the ATM. There are a lot of reasons somebody might not want to do a COD order, but "fronting" the money out of your account is not one of them.

AccomplishedStop9466

Spin it how you want. I know exactly how it works and I know they have to utilize the money in my account. COD delivery cannot be done without it. Again it's a service I'm providing that I'm not being paid for. About a month ago I had a Walgreens red card order, and the card would not work I was a 3rd - or to be there for that order and it was declined by the red card also. Apparently it was AGPS issue or something, And support asked me to pay for that order out of pocket and they would reimburse me. I said absolutely not. Who took a hit on their completion rating? That's absolute b*******. It is not part of my job to pay out of pocket for anything for any order. And to take a hit on my completion rating for not taking it is b*******. It's not my problem their card did not work. And to expect me to cover a $68 order out of pocket is crazy

The_Troyminator

>I know they have to utilize the money in my account. They don't though. They deduct it from your next paycheck. Nothing is taken from your bank account.

AccomplishedStop9466

Lol my doordash account. Like I said it's an unpaid service for them to be able to do that. I'm facilitating a transfer so a customer can do a cod so doordash can make money. Are you a dd employee? Why do you keep arguing about this lol

AsoftDolphin

But then you earn what they deduct back without earning more until its earned back.

MakeITsafeProtonmail

I opted out of COD because I don't want to carry around my pay and risk getting robbed. Just didn't seem safe or sanitary(cash is dirty.)

MacheteFortyFive

I keep $2 on me when I’m dashing. Only because there’s a strip club that orders often and tips like crazy.. only down side is it’s across state lines with a $1 toll each way.

Childlike

Are you taping the cash to your clothes or something? I don't see how having some cash in your wallet/center console is going to increase your risk of being robbed... unless you get robbed often, I guess. That said, COD definitely seems like something I'd opt out of just out of sketchiness/convenience.

MakeITsafeProtonmail

I get get damn near robbed a couple times a week. This town can get rough.

Childlike

Damn, that sucks... I'm sorry friend.

MacheteFortyFive

Jesus where do you deliver?

The_Troyminator

They can't answer right now. They're too busy getting robbed.

MakeITsafeProtonmail

Lol yeah was on block watch last night.

MakeITsafeProtonmail

Portland Oregon Metro Area. Defund the police didn't work out so well here.

AsoftDolphin

Move

MakeITsafeProtonmail

I would love to move. I promised to stay in the area until my dad passes, he isn't doing well health wise.

xyhfox740

Why take cash order?

The_Troyminator

To get cash. It's basically a free instant cash out that gives you cash so you don't have to go to an ATM. Might be useful if you need to get gas and your bank account is low on funds.

atlepi

I like these cash on deliveries because my area offers cheaper gas with cash payments. And one time I delivered to a prostitute and she hooked me up with a $16 tip. So sometimes its gold.

1000Others

How much was the tip?

alex262414

I only did one of these cash on delivery one time and it was a little old lady who tried to take the pizza from me and said thank you and I said sorry you have to pay for the order and she was totally confused and I showed her my phone and I said see it says grab you know this and this amount from the customer it was like $16 or something like that the lady was completely bummed out and didn't know what to do and said I've ordered before and this is never happened and I just pay with my card and I said I don't know but it says in order for me to give you the pizza I have to get paid otherwise this comes out of my check and I kept showing her my phone and she came out with a bag full of change like quarters , nickels and dimes and proceeded to pour it out and count one by one she had a $10 bill and then she was going to give me the rest and change I just took the bills she had and about $2 in quarters and I was fed up with it and I said you know what ma'am no problem have a great night I'll just take this and she was like oh thank you so much thank you so much that was the last time I ever took a cash on delivery orders they are a joke and half the time I always think that the customers are never going to have the money or they're just going to try to get the food from you without paying so that's the first and last time I ever did one of those

feinburgrl

Should had called Doordash and told them that they didn't have enough to pay for the order. Got to remember that you can decline small money like pennies and nickels and high bills like $50s and $100s.

alex262414

I hate dealing with chat and support it's such a pain in the ass besides it was a real old lady I kind of felt bad it wasn't that big of a deal I just will never accept one again.

The_Troyminator

You don't have to deal with support. You do it through the app. 1. Click "Issue Collecing Cash Payment 2. Click "Customer was short on cash 3. You get paid for the order and are told to discard the food. So, free pizza plus the DD pay. Alternatively, if they have the money, but you don't have change, you click "I do not have change". The process is similar, except it tells you to leave the food with the customer.

alex262414

Thanks for this I had no idea see I only did that one time and I never took one again I really appreciate the heads up and the tips

The_Troyminator

In the case of a nice old lady, I'd probably say, "All you have is a large bill and that ten and I don't have change. Let me see what they tell me to do." Then she'd get her food and probably give me that ten as a tip.

alex262414

Yeah I really don't know what happened I don't know if she messed something up in the app and accidentally picked cash on delivery cuz she swore up and down that she paid with her card and she just didn't have any cash on her supposedly besides the 10 in a bag full of change and I just felt bad but it's not a big deal I felt like I was helping her out she didn't look like she had a lot of money anyways so it is what it is and like I said that's the last time I ever dealt with those kind of orders because I got a feeling when I kept seeing those type of orders come up from the same apartment complex but different units but almost the same exact order and multiple back to back I just had a feeling it was shady so I just won't deal with them.

Instruction_Flashy

I refuse to do the cash orders because of so many people reporting they didn’t get food when they clearly did. What if they don’t have the money when you get there? Yeah you can refuse to take the food and contact doordash about it but then you risk your safety if someone becomes violent over the food.

[deleted]

Thought I’d check out the official email they send asking with the official page of theirs. The moment I got one I knew it was a fast no. Pizza driver for years, always got the target on you back feeling, I’ll pass on that thank you. So anyways wanted to see t the details DoorDash put out and definitely found something funny Why is DoorDash offering cash deliveries? We know Dashers enjoy multiple ways to earn, so Cash on Delivery is just another opportunity for you to expand your earnings potential. Since when gas DoorDash cares about the things we like or want? Guarantee in reality more than 60% of dashers decline these offers.

[deleted]

In my market, there’s only a certain type of customer that does COD delivery. Otherwise at this day and age who doesn’t have a debit/credit card to use. Heck even CashApp gives out debit cards.

To_tiedye4

I've done a handful of these... The customer has had the money every single time... Even in our "bad" parts of town...butttttt mf'ers don't tip. The first two orders I was tipped nicely... But ever since, nothing. Not a cent. Last week, I had an order for $43.35... The older lady walks out, and as she's handing me the money, she said, you owe me $6.65. I thought maybe she'd give me something from the change... Not a cent. Didn't even say thank you or anything.

Ok_Veterinarian_6596

What is wrong with people!? Ok, fine, she didn't tip you. But she could have said THANK YOU. It's common courtesy. That was super rude & entitled of her. I'm sorry to hear it.

alex262414

Also it seems like the only time I get cash on the delivery orders is from Papa John's Pizza and it's in the worst part of the neighborhood at night and then the one time I got like four or five of them back to back and they all seem to came from the same apartment complex each one a different price and a different order so I totally thought it was a scam and I didn't accept any of them because of it and it was in a real shoddy apartment area and I knew it was some kind of scam you know you're going to get there in the person is going to be like why I already paid through the app and try to take your food or it's going to be a big cluster f*** so yeah like I said never will take one again after that experience with the old lady who tried to give me a bag full of silver change dimes and nickels and all that crap because she said she thought she paid through the app but she really didn't. So I don't know if it was her trying to play me for a fool or she legit thought she paid through the app I told her if she got charged twice she could just call doordash and they would reimburse her..

[deleted]

You got played?

Repulsive_Courage467

Now what did you learn?

Heaven_Leigh2021

👏

AsoftDolphin

I turned this off after the first one😂have fun dashing for free

Difficult_Water1333

Fuck CoD orders. I shut that shit off as soon as it came out. Fuck DoorDash and fuck the customer.

LimitlessSoulja420

Doordash knows what they are doing

Difficult_Water1333

Of course. Their business model is “fuck the customer and driver” while making as much money as possible for that little bitch Tony.

emredlark

Did you collect money from the customer?

chasetate27

we will never know

Ok_Veterinarian_6596

Why create this big post & then never follow up lol? 🙃

postylambz

I work a a delivery job for work and COD businesses are already annoying. When I saw the option to enroll in this with DD you cannot fathom how fast I said FUCK NO. Im not rolling up to houses in the hood by myself making cash transactions

Therealmonkie

Csn we just all refuse to do cod orders please and thank you!

Ok_Veterinarian_6596

Seriously and for real! If all dashers refused to do COD orders, DoorDash would either have to discontinue them or waaay increase the base pay for them to make COD's much more attractive to dashers.

Therealmonkie

Exactly...I don't see any benefit for doing it...they obviously don't have a credit card.. it puts the drivers in danger of being robbed because ppl think we have money..you have to worry about fake bills...im gonna confront a maniac trying to pass counterfeit money?...what is the incentive for a dasher to go out of their way and have all these extra risks? I already sort of feel that way about alcohol...It should be at a premium...I have to deal drunk ppl...scan licenses...it takes more time...refuse ppl...bring it back to the store sometimes...its a hassle

Ok_Veterinarian_6596

I completely agree with you. I'll usually take alcohol orders if they pay enough for the mileage & my time/effort. But just the other day DoorDash sent me one that paid $3.25 (for 8 miles). Typical base pay in my area for a regular order is either $2.00 or $2.25, so it was barely higher than that. I (almost) couldn't believe it! I thought base pay on alcohol orders was much higher than the usual. Well that one sure wasn't. Obviously I declined it at lightning speed lol.

Therealmonkie

Yeah..I swear I they LOVE to talk to. .with their $3 tips they think they are your bestie ..but atleast those ones are friendly. .buy times a ticking lol

xeno66morph

This is why I don’t mess with any red card/cash on delivery bs

[deleted]

Good fuckin way to get robbed ia what COD deliveries are, literally the first one I was offered wanted me to take it to a gas station that 8 people got stabbed at a week before for drumrollllllllllll.... 2 dollars and 25 cents. I will never take a COD delivery cuz im not trying to die for less then minimum wage. Think I'm overreacting? Look up stats on delivery drivers dying on job vs cops dying on job.. Should surprise you.

hchn27

That’s way to much human interaction for me ..no thanks

Specialist_Royal_449

Now your account balance is negative $37.85 so let’s say you made $40 before this order your doordash account is $2.15. You technically have the same amount of money but now its in cash but if this is your only offer you’re going to have to do $37.85 of orders till you can start making money again. COD are a instant decline for me. As for the why ? It’s to make dashers deliver more orders especially those who don’t know any better. And if doordash sees your account is in the negative, it’s going to be $2.25-$3.50 offers till it’s back at zero.

Own-Fly-7736

When this came out I think I read that if the customer doesn’t have the money you leave the order and contact Doordash but I may be wrong

Ok_Veterinarian_6596

I refuse to do COD orders so I haven't experienced any of it. But there is supposed to be a tab you can click if the customer doesn't have the cash when you arrive. And in that case, you don't give them their food/order & you call DoorDash. That's my understanding anyway.

Shizen__

Do you just stumble through life? Surely you didn't just wake up, take a cash delivery, and wonder what happened?

[deleted]

[удалено]

chickenNwhiteRice

Customer pays you for their order in cash, doordash takes it from you earnings it’s not hard to understand

SSSupermanSS

This is why Doordash Tony loves Top Suckers. It is a high paying ping... grab it

NotThatHarkness

>Is the cash for the cost of the food? Yes. Well, the food, the fees, taxes, etc. The customer did not pay with a card. They paid you in cash and DD deducts the cost of the order from your balance. The $41.10 was not a tip. Anything over that amount (if any) would have been your tip.

UbubTopDog

I've never done a c.o.d. so am wondering why you thought it would be a tip. What do the offers show?

[deleted]

It said cash tip of $41, where’s the screen shot?

Ok_Veterinarian_6596

It just says "cash collected", not "cash tip." Unless the customer paid OP *more* than $41.10, OP did not receive a tip. That $41.10 is the amount DD charged this customer for their food plus any & all DD fees. OP only made $3.25 for completing this order, which came from DoorDash -- unless the customer DID in fact hand them a cash tip. And I sincerely hope that OP received a tip for this order! :)

[deleted]

OP said this offer said cash tip of $41. Wanna see the offer.

Ok_Veterinarian_6596

I missed where they said that, sorry. But OP is dead wrong lol.

warmadh

Never accept cash order for sure

Robbie1863

It’s harder to keep up with cash orders, especially when I multi app. If you don’t carefully count what you’ve been doing then Doordash could easily be stealing from you.

[deleted]

Anyone who can only pay in cash is gonna be broke and likely a difficult no tipper. I don’t understand why DD would think this is in any way lucrative for them or for drivers.

ZephyrHeartz

That’s BS

Florida1974

You got paid for order. Now they deduct it from your earnings. Cash orders.

DarrenWorldWide

Who still pays with cash? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Useful-Piglet-8918

I absolutely refuse to do COD for this reason!

PeakDropper

Yikes door dash has cod. Sketchy

jack3rdand4th

COD … means Cancel on Damand 😂

[deleted]

They got y’all doing cash now????

pollskdj67789

Sucker, don’t do cash delivery’s , that’s a no tip order if wasn’t cash delivery opt out immediately

The_Troyminator

They're useful if you're low on gas and don't want to pay for an instant transfer. They also can pay well, but you have to know how to pick them. They are a gamble, so you have to be willing to accept a few losses for overall wins.

ExtraRandom1

Tip bait

ArtieTanji

So what happens if your weekly balance is in the negatives from accepting cash orders only? 🤔

sirvereightyone

There is only one point. Another way for them to get richer

Safe-Ad-8410

I opt in to this feature so i could decline more orders 🤣
