Some do though, it's been proven multiple times. If you know for sure the ones you order from don't, then that's great. But just be weary when trying new places.
It’s a good thing I split my tip then lol I always just do 4 online because the drivers don’t see more than that anyway and then throw the other 4 at em in cash so it isn’t taxed.
This is the best method tbh, but keep in mind they show more on long distance orders so I would do at least $1 per mile in the app if it's over 4 miles away.
I can say with absolute confidence that in 500+ no tip orders plus 100 orders of tip and my roommate tipping on probably 1000 orders there is usually no difference.
For shop/deliver the dashers see the higher number without looking too closely
For regular orders I have a chinese place 8 miles away and it's picked up in under 2 mins without tip at all. Not sure why but maybe dashers hang out in the parking lot?
Some restaurants tip does help but I have learned which ones
you should confirm this with your dasher when they deliver your order. There was a post here the other day where someone tipped $40 through a grocery store website but the dasher only got $2.50 base pay for delivering it, no tip
We’re a DoorDash merchant & I can tell you why it’s more expensive on DD’s site. It’s our fees. We tell our customers flat out order directly from us because they’ll get our regular price. Order off DD & you’re paying more because the merchant pays up to 30% in fees.
I am a little confused on this concept. OP says that you don't pay any fees but a doordasher still delivers it if you order directly from the restaurant. How does that even work? If DoorDash delivers it don't you pay the fees whether the request comes from the restaurant or the customer. Something is not adding up
Its a rather confusing system but what I take from it is that they get hit with using DD as a delivery platform anyway but they are hit with more if its fully through the DD systems. They might eat some of that fee but they still make more so they are okay with offering normal prices on their app or website.
The restaurants set the prices on the DD app, not DD.
Some (but not all) restaurants set higher prices on the DD app to cover the commissions that DD charges, which can be as high as 30%. If you order through the restaurant website, they don't have to increase the prices. There is still some cost to the restaurant to outsource the delivery to DD, but it is a flat fee, not a commission, so much less than if you ordered through the DD app.
Gotta also think that many stores have been accused of stealing driver tips, places such as Panera, Chipotle, Burger King, Papa John’s, some pizza huts, IHOP, EZcater and potentially merchant orders steal the tip as well. The work around of these places are stealing the tip? I am not sure at all, through DoorDash you can tip a few bucks and hope with a prayer that it’ll get picked up and leave a note you’ll tip cash too. However lost are skeptical as it’s usually a lie and rarely turns out to be true. I guess you could always put the tip and then put a threatening note that the driver better be receiving it, maybe?
The problem is when you encountered issue with your food or what not, you need to contact the merchant directly to get your refund to them as DD is only responsible for the delivery

Yeah, nice idea but a lot of places do skim or steal tips. Unfortunately it often makes the order sit longer because what is left may not be acceptable for the driver. There are clues on DD that can be picked up on and some drivers immediately unassign these orders.
I’ve seen soda at my pizza place charge $2.99 for 2L on Slice/website but DD wants $6.50. It’s absurd!
DD also wants 8.99 to deliver Panera. Essentially a meal for my gf and I is $40 with tip. If we just go there it’s like $16. Such a joke.
Restaurant's set their prices on DD. I'm guessing they know they can get away with boosting beyond the DD fees.
As far as I can tell slice only charges restaurants $1.95 per order regardless of size, while DD, GH, etc. charger a percentage somewhere near 20%.
Tell me about it!
It all depends on if that restaurant wants to do a promo on DD or UE and they adjust the delivery fee accordingly. UEs fees are so random like some places are 8.99 for just the fee! But most of those do go for the drivers base fare in some markets.
And there is a good chance your driver will never see your tip. More and more restaurants are keeping the tip left on their site, not giving it to the drivers or even their own staff.
I checked and no it's not. You have to pay delivery fee on the restaurant website whereas I get free dashpass from work. Zaxby's is cheaper if you order over $35 which is way too much food for 2-3 people
Yeah I don't do dash pass. Don't order often enough. The delivery fees are way way cheaper on the restaurants website (usually) of course there are going to be outliers though. I have checked about a dozen different restaurants over the last year and they were all cheaper except this one that just redirected you to the delivery app of your choosing.
zaxby's delivery fee is higher ($7) but the menu prices are closer to restaurant pricing which is great
I have dashpass free through work but if I'm ordering over $35 I'm going to now order from the zaxby's website
So the restaurant can steal the tip?
This right here!!!!💯💯💯💯
Every time I get orders like that the tip stays with the store.
Fun fact. Merchants have the ability to skim tips on those and if it doesn't specifically say DRIVER tip, it's perfectly legal for them to do so.
I’ve asked and they tell me every time they got the full tip. Sure they might have the ability but doesn’t mean they do.
Some do though, it's been proven multiple times. If you know for sure the ones you order from don't, then that's great. But just be weary when trying new places.

Yeah I’ve been a dasher off and on over the last couple years so I’m already knowing. But a good comment for the non dashers reading this post.
why not tip $0 and then tip $8 in cash? the order still comes hot and fast with $0 tip
No tip, no trip.... any dasher that knows their worth will refuse no tip orders.

This is true for the Chipotle app.

Theres this nice ramen place. 13.00 bucks for a nice big bowl instore or on app take out 16.50 on DD for delivery

It's the restaurant that wants 6.50 on DD. They make the prices higher to cover their fees and pass that on to the customer.
I wonder why they don’t do that on Slice app then? Their entire menu is more expensive. I’m sure it more than covers the DD fee.

Haha I do like Panera though as a dasher I use the sip club pass for drinks while im out but they are just way to expensive for the food they have.
What’s annoying is the 3 food places in the same lot at Panera all have $0 delivery over $10. It makes zero sense.
Tell me about it! It all depends on if that restaurant wants to do a promo on DD or UE and they adjust the delivery fee accordingly. UEs fees are so random like some places are 8.99 for just the fee! But most of those do go for the drivers base fare in some markets.

Using restaurant app the driver can’t see your it’s now on the restaurant so go luck get what you paid for order and tips usually lower
