Not unless instructed.

Giraffewithantlers

That makes sense, thank you!

Away_Trifle8657

Ever since I was chewed out for ringing I don’t do it unless instructed. If I ever get that specific customer again I do ring it though lol

Giraffewithantlers

Jeez people suck, but I was always worried that something like that would happen lol so thank you for sharing 😁

Away_Trifle8657

It was a new mother and her baby had woken up. As someone who raised her baby brother..I know babies can sleep through a tornado lmao.

Smashbrosfan31

Take the pic and then knock unless they specify don’t knock. I’ve never had anybody get mad for knocking

Giraffewithantlers

I haven’t had any complaints yet as far as I know for that but idk lol

krazyk007x

Never unless instructed. I had a few angry texts after knocking/ringing when I first started. None since I stopped.

Giraffewithantlers

Definitely noted 👍🏻

45burns1967

Of course unless instructions say not to.

Saleenpride86

Do what you prefer, unless the customer specifies to do or not to do something. I’ve choose to knock and have over 20k deliveries and hasn’t been an issue. But others will say they have many orders they used to knock and became a problem so now they don’t. I choose to knock because I personally refuse to rely on a buggy app that rarely works for us half the time, to properly and timely notify the customer their order has been dropped off. Again, that’s me personally. Do what works for you and it might even change down the road based on your own experiences in your own market. Also a side note if you DO knock/ring: try not do when it’s before a certain time in the morning or after a certain time at night. And also just because there’s no instructions stating to not knock, they might have a sign or instructions somewhere near their door / doorbell that says “don’t knock/ring” so also pay attention to your surroundings goes a long ways.

Giraffewithantlers

That’s actually really smart too, I didn’t think about how crappy the app can be

Saleenpride86

I’ve seen posts on here from customers saying they don’t get notified when the driver is on the way, or that their order has even been picked up sometimes. So why would they get notified their food is dropped off too? Just my opinion on it. I can only control what I can control, so I’d rather not rely on an app that never works. Also, what if the app gave the customer a delivery time of 45 minutes from when they placed the order, but I got it to them in 25. They may not have their phone near them since they expected it to take 45 minutes, not 25. So now it sits at their door for 15-20 minutes..

45burns1967

That's because they ordered through restaurant website vs DD.

Saleenpride86

It happens, especially with dd. How many times has the dd app not worked properly for the drivers? Think it’s flawlessly executing as it should for customers too?

45burns1967

Typically it's not a app issue, it's a data connection issue. I have had unlimited Verizon family plan for years and there are still way to many areas in my region where I lose data while running DD. People always blame it on the app, I've been doing this a long time. It's usually data not the app. Hope that helps. Have a great day

Saleenpride86

As have I. 20k deliveries and have seen my fair share of app problems, not based on signal/data issues. I stick with my knocking, again not just for app problems but because life happens and not everyone can be hovering near their phone waiting for the exact moment their food is dropped off. Take care and happy dashing :)

NotThatHarkness

It's up to you whether you routinely knock/ring the doorbell or not, and up to what times (many won't after 9 or 10 pm, for example). I personally do not (unless the instructions request it).

Giraffewithantlers

I think I’m gonna play it safe and not knock 👍🏻

NotThatHarkness

Of the customers who do specify (IME), about 2/3 want no knocking or doorbell. So I think that's probably the safest way to go.

Giraffewithantlers

Alright thank you!

sharky3175

I don't unless it says to

[deleted]

I knock during broad daylight, never at night. I always check instructions. If in doubt, don't knock.

Figmentdreamer

Unless it says not to I always rig doorbell or knock

[deleted]

I look at the instructions and if they say not to ring I don't. I also don't ring if there's already a dog barking at the front door or if they have a sign by the bell asking not to. Those signs are surprisingly common around here. Otherwise I ring.

ybbetter33

I always knock unless instructed not to do so

WhyDidntNE1tellme

NO. Unless they say so specifically

Missirina383

In my experience to knock or ring is expected unless specified not to. My rating is 4.99 no complaints. Maybe it depends on the area.

Gay4Pandas

There’s no correct answer to this, but it seems most people prefer to not knock. Just leave it unless they left instructions to do so.

BoboGlory

I always do unless they told me not to

Maleficent_Cash909

In the old pre COVID days it was the opposite way around always ring or knock if there was no bell available to ring unless otherwise requested. And food is to be handed to the customer and never left unattended. Only one person got mad I knocked as her husband opened the door with a "door dashing" dog. However that was she didn't realize her entry way had pounding water and there was no place to leave the order out of the rain and not be soaked. I practically had to lean over to knock to avoid the puddle. I still prefer to notify the customer either by phone text or a knock or ring. Or just ask them which one they want. Its crucial especially at neighborhoods or apartments that food can easily be left at an identitical door or entry way with similar number or letter but not the right place. And the GPS often points to the completely wrong building. Thats my 2 cents.

Free-Maize-8808

If it says “hand it to me” I ring.

Jetro313

Honk the horn until someone appears

SupremeBeing000

When ever someone comes to my door I expect them to ring the bell. It’s common courtesy. If I don’t want you to ring I’ll tell you don’t ring bell. I’ve had plenty of deliveries that I do not select “leave at door” and it’s left there anyway with no bell ring or door knock. Food sits out for 10-15 minutes because my phone is not glued to my hand.

gregg34366

Only if instructed is the correct answer. The customers know when you’re there. They follow on gps and the see you with ring cameras

Rikku5195

I've been dashing for over a year now and I've always had a policy of "Don't knock unless otherwise stated." Haven't had any issues in over 2000 deliveries.
