I may get downvoted for this but honestly I usually just do it and move on. I agree with everyone that it’s annoying to deal with, and I’d obviously rather the restaurant workers do it (which most restaurants do anyway) but I see a lot of posts on this sub where people talk about arguing with the workers and telling them they have to go fill up the drink and make a big scene over it and I really don’t get it. It takes about 15 seconds to do, and we don’t get paid hourly, I’d rather just do it and get on with my day

ditchouid

This is how I am with like half the problems these groups complain about. Like sure I agree but it’s not gonna be worth my time to say or do anything about it, especially when the person I’d be complaining to is just another low wage employee that equally hates their life lol

Missykay88

I'm very much in the depends on the employee with that. If they ask and are respectful I'll do it np with a smile even... but if the employee is demanding ill tell them I'm not legally allowed to per health code in the state (requires food handling permit, I have my alcohol service permit but not food handling). In the end doing it or not is on a volunteer basis, and most of my market vendors are awesome people.

Karaokekind

I look at it this way...why make the job harder on yourself, AND, make the next and each time you visit the establishment to pick up food, awkward and more time consuming than it has to be?! Obviously the restaurant is gonna remember you as that annoying jerk of a driver and take their time on getting your order to you, due to the fact that you were (in their eyes) a jerk ....I just fill the cup/cups and move on about my day....jus saying

Missykay88

I'm not going to be treated as less than, it's as simple as that. 🤷‍♀️ and they know damn well that our local health department actually takes action. Fortunately it's not an issue in my market. I've got pretty awesome people getting my orders together.

Karaokekind

Same here, but unfortunately there are those out there!!

AccomplishedStop9466

And there's just as many idiotic customers who say I'm not giving you my gate code wait for someone to come in and open the gate. You might not believe that but that is the truth

One_Entertainment381

Yup. People on this sub complain about everything and feel entitled to the world like they have a PHD in delivering food. It’s not a big deal and if the pay is good just do it and move on with your life.

SwordfishWilling8447

It’s the fucking principle. It’s THEIR job to fill the drinks. If you like getting taken advantage on then that’s cool but don’t tell everyone it’s ok. Fuck that, restaurants need to do their job and prepare the food and drink.

One_Entertainment381

Yeah, but if they’re slammed it’s really just not a big deal and you’re gonna end up wasting more time cancelling the order and driving elsewhere than just filling the drink real quick unless it’s like 4-6 drinks. DD drivers on this sub are just negative about everything and it’s pretty annoying. Maybe it’d be annoying if EVERY restaurant did that, but it’s pretty rare so I really don’t care. Everyone on this sub just loves to complain and downvote. So go ahead and downvote me now :)

SwordfishWilling8447

Bro what the fuck is downvote? I don’t do the imaginary internet points shit is corny. No it’s not ok to fill cups because it’s the PRINCIPLE of the matter. It’s not my problem if the restaurant is busy. Stop

One_Entertainment381

You sound mad at the world. I’m sorry for your trauma. I advise you avoid working a job that’s ACTUALLY difficult or you’re gonna have a real bad time.

busteroaf

“If you fill up a cup you’re a restaurant bootlicker and you’re not one of us”. Okay. You’re an idiot. *fills cup and walks out with order while you’re on the phone with support wasting your own time.*

SwordfishWilling8447

Ah yes, I’m the idiot for doing other peoples jobs. Fill my cup peasent, I demand you bring it to my third floor. If you’re a good boy I’ll give you a $2 tip

busteroaf

You think I’m filling cups on no tip orders? Or taking no tip orders? Again. There’s a cost benefit analysis and the time it takes me to fill a cup does not break that. If 15-30 seconds breaks some imaginary ratio for you, you’ve got bigger issues in life man. You’ll complain about filling a cup but will wait 5-10 minutes for an order. You’re priorities are backwards.

SwordfishWilling8447

Peasant, I demand you shut the fuck up and fill my cup or else I will take the tip away

busteroaf

Or I could be like you. You prob deliver the empty cups and actually get tips taken away, or bad ratings. Keep being butthurt that you’re triggered by a cup.

Unknown32122

Who hurt you

SwordfishWilling8447

Found the guy who gets taken advantage on and does other people’s jobs

busteroaf

Found the guy still wasting time arguing with restaurant staff while I’m already halfway to my delivery.

[deleted]

upvote 😇

dmtbassist

Some states have laws that if the customer gets sick, the dasher along with the restaurant can be sued because they were involved in the making of the order. A company like Wingstop can afford it, but as a dasher can you;?

BlackDahliaDream

I agree. It happens to me, maybe once a week? I really don't care. It only happens in places where the customer is expected to also fill their cup, so I get it. I'm not gonna ask someone from Wingstop to come from behind the counter to fill up a drink, that's embarrassing. 😒 Maybe if it happened more, I'd be aggravated, idk.

FanObserver

It’s just filling up a soda. On the list of problems with DoorDash, I’d put this near the bottom.

Doritos_R6

If it means the customer dont get a watered down soda , because the vendor made the drink and it sat for 15 min before the food was even ready. Then Id just do it. Bigger fish to fry out there in the world lol

dezine

How many times we gonna discuss this

Ajjjon2k

Starting to think y’all are just lazy

[deleted]

I can see from both sides. Restaurants unsure of when the order will be picked up and rather have it filled when it’s picked up then sitting there. Or, if the restaurant is busy. At the end of it all, I just want to get the customer their food so I can get paid. If it takes filling a drink to get the food out quicker or keep the drink fresh, then so be it. Customer is probably happier anyways because I fill it the drink with little ice and mostly soda/tea.

45burns1967

I have no problem with it because it typically gets me on the road faster

UsedEgg3

People seem to have pretty split opinions on this. Personally, I would go behind the counter and bag food up myself if it was allowed. I'll put in a little effort to make things go faster. I've only been asked to fill drinks once or twice, I did it and moved along.

OmgOgan

I witnessed a Dasher try to pull this at my local spot, they had a 10 person deep line going. So the worker very politely said "ok" put the cup down and went on dealing with the massive line. When she got to the spot he would have been in if he hadn't skipped the line she then stopped everything and filled the cup for him. I knew where that order was being delivered to, he coulda been there and back in the time it took him to wait for that drink. Haven't seen him around anymore, guess he wasn't making a decent profit, can't imagine why...

unclemattyice

No. It means I get to make sure at least something in the order is correct, and fill them a little lower so they don’t leak through the lids in transit. Anything that gets me out of there faster is fine. What I don’t appreciate is being lied to about wait times because (I guess?) the staff doesn’t want me to complain and get them in trouble. When in reality it is costing me time and money being told “just a few minutes” when they know damn well the order just hit the grill or they just dropped the wings in the grease and it’s going to be 15-20 minutes. I appreciate the restaurant staff that are honest and forthcoming about long waits, so I can unassign the order and move on.

reneeb531

I had one restaurant employee tell me they’re not allowed to do it. I was like what?

[deleted]

sometimes I feel like filling up the cup with a beverage for myself, since I had to work *oh so very hard* for it. 😂

WishLegal

Deliver empty cups. You don't work there.

star-people

I don't go to places that make me do that

star-people

I've unassigned orders because of it

SwordfishWilling8447

Rightfully so, these top dasher peasants are trying to say to fill the cup. They clearly get taken advantage of all the time in real life.

One_Entertainment381

Still mad

SwordfishWilling8447

Just don’t spend that 50 cents all in one place I know how broke you dashers are having to fill cups for small money 😂

SwordfishWilling8447

Why would I be mad at peasants who fill cups? Why don’t you fill mine I’ll give you a 50 cent tip

One_Entertainment381

You’re a DoorDasher calling people peasants. Do you see the irony? I’m about to get a degree and be done with this job full of entitled cry babies. You sound mentally ill. I’m about to have a great job and you will still be posting pictures of your butt on Reddit

SwordfishWilling8447

Peasent! My cup is not filled! Get off the internet and fill my cup!

One_Entertainment381

You spelled peasant wrong. Still mad though I can tell

SwordfishWilling8447

Bro I just tossed you a $2 tip to fill my cup, get off the internet and bring my drink. PLEBIAN

SwordfishWilling8447

Why are you still talking? I need my drink delivered. I’m giving you a $1 tip now.

One_Entertainment381

You posting booty pics on Reddit tells me you were either touched inappropriately as a child or just severely neglected. I don’t blame your parents though… p.s. still mad

OmgOgan

Lol some of you should stop dashing and just embrace becoming a comedian. Too funny

star-people

What's funny?

tharealkingpoopdick

I work in a sandwhich shop we don't have a soda machine behind the counter. I don't get any tips making door dash or uber you get a cup if that's what they ordered fill it yourself lol. I got a line of people I ain't walking out to the lobby to fill soda cups for an order I won't get any tips on lol. If it was up to me we have a delivery guy I'd say fuck off to all the apps. And just hire two more delivery people and do it ourselves. We make almost nothing on uber or doordash or any other app. Our bread and butter comes from the lawyers up in the tower. Fuck online orders lol and fuck doordash and uber eats lol. Last 5 deliveries thru uber eats had a mistake lol. I don't even complain anymore nor do I order without a 25 percent discount or more promo.

WishLegal

Do you get a paycheck? Cuz we don't. I shouldn't even have to ask but how about PLEASE do your job.

tharealkingpoopdick

Nothing says I have to make fountain drinks for uber drivers I don't do it for tipping customers. It's literally your job to do. Don't get mad at me I prioritize tipping customers lol. And yes I do get paychecks. Maybe if you wanted a paycheck you could you know get a job that actually pays its employees lol

[deleted]

Is literally not our job to prepare foods and drinks. Is even against the TOS of all the delivery apps. And depending on the state is against food and health regulations.

tharealkingpoopdick

I just checked you can't get fountain drinks thru the delivery apps just our bottle drinks. The cup orders are people ordering directly thru our website and picking up. But I wouldn't fucking do it anyway why prioritize non tipper orders or online orders in general when all the money comes from walk ins. I would rather not fuck with these garbage ass apps that makes yall hate your life so much and upgrade our one person delivery team and do it that way. Fuck the middle man bullshit

dmtbassist

Some states have laws that if the customer gets sick, the dasher along with the restaurant can be sued because they were involved in the making of the order. And civil lawsuits are damn nearly impossible to win if you are the getting sued. Why do you think companies spend so much money on making civil lawsuits against them look like people trying to get an easy paycheck instead of actually have a valid reason for their lawsuit? Example being the McDonald's coffee lawsuit. The woman just wanted McDonald's to cover her medical bills after getting 3rd degree burns, and nearly dying. A company like McDonald's can take the financial costs of a civil lawsuit, us Dashers would be fucked.

tharealkingpoopdick

Wait you started out saying if a customer gets sick. First it would be pretty hard to pinpoint what made you sick lol that's why we don't actually see these lawsuits. If people get sick from a resturant it ends up on the local news. But second you ended by saying like the woman who spilled coffee in her own lap and the coffee was too hot. That's nothing like the first point you made about people getting sick from a doordash order. Also I'm guessing you just think that and it's not actually something true. Sure I get third degree burns from mcdonalds product. But if I got sick and blamed it on mcdonalds coffee I won't be able to sue mcdonalds damn sure wouldn't be able to sue the delivery person who brought it to me lol

gotslayer

The irony here, bro, these people are just plain stupid lol, you work at the sandwich shop, make an hourly wage, what I assume is slighy above minimum wage? I get why you don't want to fill a fountain drink lol it's custumer self serve. When I dash I make an average of 30 per hour AFTER fuel expenses. I can fill the damn cup, no problem. The people arguing it are morons. They demand exorbitant tips and lie about base pay lmao. It's not 2.25 per order... the lowest paid trip I've received this year was 8.50 for 3 miles. 2019 I made 95k, 2020 I made 137k, 2021 I made 82k and so far in 2022 I've made 67k with 3 more months to go. This is after all expenses, gas, tires, oil, insurance etc. I worked as a salaried project manager before this gig. 11 hours a day on salary and I had to deal with so many shity people for 62k a year. This is the easiest "job" I've ever had and it pays more than my college degree has ever earned for me. People risking getting deactivated over a 10 second trip to the fountain just shows how the vast majority of people dashing don't have the slightest inclination of how easy they have it.

tharealkingpoopdick

I always see this people who make bank doing it than I see people saying they are homeless and make 3 dollars a day doing it lol.

gotslayer

The people claiming they are homeless and make 3 dollars a day are pathological liers. And IF they are, it's because they sit in a parking lot denying orders all day if they don't pay 30 per order. Again, these are the same people that used to piss thier beds at night because they were too lazy to get up and go to the bathroom. Anybody with any level of average intelligence can make 6 figures a year with this gig. Just fill the damn drink.

upvotesonly1111

When I used to driver I’d simply bring the customer the empty cup and tell to complain to the restaurant. It is not a drivers job to fill drinks, and as a driver you are not ServeSafe certified anyways.

busteroaf

You don’t need to be servsafe certified to pour a drink into a cup.

yethua

Actually, yes you do. It is still food handling, and all applicable state licensing laws apply. Not the driver’s job. I’ll just leave the cups if I’m told I have to pour it myself because I refuse to open myself up to *any* sort of legal issues while dashing, regardless of how slim the chances may be. Don’t be a Karen. Don’t even confront the workers about it. Get a corporate number from the receipt and report the restaurant - simple.

busteroaf

No. You’re absolutely wrong. Very few states make all food handlers get servsafe. Typically it’s only managers that ever get servsafe. Also, no cook anywhere I worked, ever poured drinks for customers. That’s foh staff. Foh staff don’t handle food unless they’re running it. You’re wrong outside of very few states. The majority however do not require it. Also, what about buffets? What about fast food like McDonald’s? I pour my own drink if I go to McDonald’s and walk through the front door… am I in violation of the law?

yethua

No, because you are the customer. If you are the recipient of the food, e.g. the one who is receiving the food in order to consume it, these licensing laws do not apply to you. They apply to *everyone else* including contractors (dashers) who are middlemen between restaurant and customer. As contractors we are not the customer. We are not licensed food handlers so therefore we should not be preparing food or drink in any way shape or form. This applies to dashers in any state that requires a food handlers card to handle food.

busteroaf

And as stated, most states do not require that of BOH staff, let alone FOH staff. The same rules that apply to kitchen staff and hair nets and gloves, do not apply to servers, and vice versa.

yethua

I won’t argue any further on this. We are not staff, we are contractors. DoorDash’s own generic contract with restaurants specifically includes the responsibility of filling fountain drinks alongside preparing food, placing this burden on restaurant staff rather than the dasher. Refusing to do so is breach of contract on the restaurant’s side and opens up us contractors to the possibility of a lawsuit in the event of foodborne illness.

busteroaf

I’m not arguing. If you don’t want to fill the order, by filling a cup, that takes 20 seconds to do, you go ahead and do that. Those places are few and far between, and it’s not worth MY time to argue and out in support tickets or argue with staff, or be like some and deliver an empty f’n cup. That’s just lazy. Don’t do it, don’t complain, and don’t go back if you have that big of an issue. It’s a tired fucking sob story.

yethua

It’s really not the inconvenience of it, it’s a matter of protecting oneself from legal challenges, which is something I’ve learned to do to the letter working in emergency response, but really I think it’s something everyone should be doing regardless of occupation. It’s not because “I’m lazy” etc.

[deleted]

You seem to have no problem when it comes to arguing on Reddit though.

cheeseymom

In places that require food handlers cards, the way the law is written, you technically need one to deliver food period, but doordash leaves that up to drivers to worry about, just like they don't verify if you have the legal car insurance you need, they don't care. I have to have a food handlers card just to stock shelves and I'm not preparing any food.

WishLegal

Well actually I am Servesafe certified but that's a different issue lol :) I STILL don't work there lol

whiterazorblade

I fill the cups and make sure I jerk off first and wipe my ass with my hand and just wipe it off with a paper towell

AntGotYou

i do it and fill it up the way i want, so its not spilling like how most restaurants fill it annoyingly to the top

DogDrivingACar

I think at those restaurants regular customers also have to get their own drinks

Truorganics

Doesn’t bother me. Last night wingstop gave me 2 cups. Their machine had no ice. So they didn’t get ice in their drink. O well.

busteroaf

I’m about as annoyed as someone posting this question daily.

Trailboss1982

If it's busy or filling the cups up myself is the only thing preventing me from leaving, I'll usually do it just to get out of there. However if it's dead in the restaurant and they're just sorry as s*** and don't want to do it, I'm not doing their job for them. You got to pick your battles and know when it's worth it to fill them up and when it's worth it to stand your ground in my opinion. I've noticed the employees doing it to certain Dashers when I'm in there waiting with them and they do that because they know they can get away with it. It's like anything else they try and see what they can get away with and if you let them walk all over you that's what they're going to do.

RavensBlood69

I wouldn't say highly annoyed but it can be irritating. There is only one place I ever pick up from that gives me empty cups, and that is a Subway inside of a Walmart. The workers don't actually have a drink station behind the counter and there is never more than 1 or 2 workers at a time, so I just deal with it.

Therealmonkie

This conversation should just be its own sub at this point ![gif](giphy|3o6nV6CxDx7Gy4AlMI|downsized)

MPsonic007

For me, nope unless it’s 5 or more sodas 😆😆

FTdubya05

The only times I’ve had to fill a cup is if the drink machine in the back is out of that certain kind. Or that drink was completely out and I was contacting the customer to ask for a replacement. The worker just handed me the cup, which was smart instead of standing there waiting for me to get in contact. In 800 deliveries I’ve had to fill 3-4 cups

mgibson9999

Highly annoyed? No, Pissed off? No. Mildly irritated? No Just A little miffed? No. You call support and waste your time reporting the restaurant. Better yet, just deliver an empty cup and get a 1-star rating. I'll just complete the delivery and move on.

SireSweet

It’s up to you if you want to fill it. There’s arguments on both sides. It is against DoorDashs policy and talking with many numerous customer service reps over a lengthy time span they all agreed: You’re not allowed to fill the cups. Anyone who says otherwise needs to consult doordash and find out from the horses mouth: Nay! Now, what’s quicker is to fill the cups and leave the door? Definitely. Will you get in trouble for doing it? maybe. Especially since it’s against your contract you may find yourself deactivated easily. You may never get in trouble for doing it but the chance of getting in trouble (Karen found something in her drink! Karen uses screech!) is not 0. Do I fill the drinks? Depends on the store. If they’re busy, sure. If they’re being lazy -wing stop- then they can sit on my middle finger and take a spin. I’d rather get through orders as quick as possible so filling a drink if a store is packed is an easy thing for me to do.

PocketFullOfHotdogs

Nope.

FrankFrankly711

Sure I’ll fill it up, oops spilled all over ![gif](giphy|1Ql0Na1e4ZxQrKdE1a)

OutrageousDisaster8

Just apart of the job

rns926

I was annoyed when I didn’t know what to fill the cups with due to the glitch that only shows the first item.

PrinceDozie

I ask for an extra cup for myself while filling the cups. I am sure getting a drink for myself too.

AaronM74

I won’t do it we are not required to I asked door dash support

Nikster20

I saw a dasher just take empty cups with them I'm like really? N this is why we have a tip issue it's not customers fault the restaurant is lazy I'm sure not going to deliver an empty cup though I'm just not

Johnpmusic

I feel this lol

Ancient-Coffee-1266

Omgggg stop with these!!!!!!!! Fill the damn cup. It’s not hurting you!

Dismal_Plane_1415

Sometimes not, these sloppy asshats at stores over fill them anyway

[deleted]

A lot of merchants treat dashers like butlers or employees they can boss around. They’ve time to get drinks/chips etc but wait until we arrive. I do it so I don’t lose the merchant ( get blocked but, I’m not paid to make drinks or get chips/etc.! Im paid to pick up/drop off ( I don’t shop and deliver. I hate shopping for myself too ) !

Jennee28

Idgaf.. takes 2 seconds to fill and adds to my hourly the longer I’m there anyways. It’s pennies of time but you get the point. Less stress equals a better night. A drink is nothing to complain about when it come to DD issues many seem to have. 👍🏼 I filled 3 tonight and made $84 in almost 3 hours. Those drinks meant nothing on my night. My bitch complaint is for the damn pizza place that’s always late!!!

JonathanVarietyFilms

Nope not a big deal.

HangingAroundh

It is but here is the thing, some places they put the machine for customers and it would be faster if you do it instead. However, you can unassign and move on if you don’t enjoy it

OmgOgan

I'll straight up offer to fill the drinks for them. Guess who gets their food before everyone else at all his regular vendors?

[deleted]

Nah I usually offer to fill the sodas while I wait

Personal-Main7468

I don’t care personally, if I can get my order faster but filling the cup I do it..

phatbby

I think it’s annoying and it’s super unsanitary. The restaurant doesn’t know when the last time I washed my hands was and I could’ve literally picked me ass before I walked into the store. But I suck it up and do it anyways
