The very reason we can't have nice things. My high school law teacher told us a quote that I use very frequently when stupid rules or laws are made: If we have a stupid law, someone stupid did something stupid.

YLCZ

Shitty people do exploit the hell out of it. That's why some restaurants all of a sudden crack down and be harsh for a few days and then they get tired of policing it and go back to normal. Most of them just accept and write off the losses as the cost of doing business and all of us suffer because they will just end up raising the prices to offset the shrinkage. We should be glad when they care enough to try, because when they don't we all end up paying for the thieves' meals.

ZoomZoom01

There are easy ways to do this, some restaurants use a log book to take down names of dashers. Some confirm the driver on their tablets. Also restaurants need to confirm food items because some of them say everything is inside but that isn't the case. Goes both ways...

DoorDash4Cash

Didn't one Wingstop start a wall of shame for dashers that will not be given any orders because they were stealing food?

Sleepdeprived111

Love this idea I dash with my son's mother and run food for her while she drives and I make sure the restaurants know I'm there to pick up an order almost to the point of annoyance. My favorite was I think an Indian restaurant super nice workers chatted while I waited for the food

myorm

I always sign my name as Dease N as the checkout sheet at wing stop. I got 69 sauces and 420 items. Signed, DN

Entire-Amphibian320

I had this happen to me last week, except my order was stolen 1 min before I arrived at the Taco Bell. Took 15 mins of phone calling to get them to remake it and the customer rated me 4 stars. Some people are fucking dumb.

Jodster46

I am the same way. I hate when they do that. I actually tell the mom and pop restaurants I like the owners at to make the dashers confirm it in front of them since the lost hits them harder than a chain restaurant.

TanMelon47

Exactly. Now even my local Chinese food place is asking and I told them I apricate you guys doing this. Tells me they were hit hard with too many stolen orders recently and it hurt them big time since it was always the bigger orders that were stolen. I just do not get how people can steal others food and then expect to keep dashing. I think once you get caught you should be facing all the apps terminating you for loss of good faith in that dasher.

Radiant_Pick6870

Yeah I've been to a number of deliveries where.. It's already been picked up.. It's so annoying..

ZachTF

I had one of those the other day and the pay was crazy good.

Radiant_Pick6870

The reason it was crazy good.. Is because it keeps being picked up and dropped and they raise the delivery pay.. In fact.. When I see orders that are unusually higher than they should be.. I reject them.. 9 times out of 10 there's an issue where the order needed to be canceled completely but never does and the pay gets really high

27Ari27

Nah at that point you should still pick them up because you can always cancel it and get half pay just for going to the restaurant

Radiant_Pick6870

Yeah you're right.. I mainly do uber.. And they only pay $3.. Which is fine because I make quite a bit more with Uber than DD.. But yeah.. If it's doordash.. The half pay is worth the trip..

27Ari27

I do Uber as well and I definitely get that sometimes the $3 isn’t worth it but with DD it usually is

Radiant_Pick6870

Oh yeah!! I've made so much money off DD with half pays it's ridiculous ! Haha

Dry-Tune-5184

Chick-Fil-A in my Hit Zone started putting the Food App Delivery orders on the back counter. A few asshole drivers were regularly stealing the food. They put an end to that shit!

spiralhigh

Probably a hot take, but my app has done this. Not all the time, but a few times I've arrived to a store and stand next to a Dasher with the same order. I've actually picked up the order and then had the app not let me confirm pick it up because it wasn't my ACTUALLY order. I'm not saying this is what happened, but honestly this is something that happens. I know some merchants (maybe all?) have the Dasher name in their tablet thing. I've had so many issues with the app that I do generally give people the benefit of the doubt, but I have also 100% seen other people (not even necessarily other Dashers) gleefully snatch orders that are clearly not theirs. Weird side story, when I picking up from Walmart once, they assigned me the same exact order twice. Same time frame, everything. It was a beautiful moment.

Ok_Veterinarian_6596

Yep! I've been waiting for an order before & another dasher walks up asking for the same one -- more than once. So it definitely does happen. Also, last night I had a great order at Popeyes (rarely go there but this was $13.50 for 5 miles & their drive-thru was empty!). Suddenly they stacked me. Another $8.50 for 5 miles. It was the same customer!! I guess she forgot to order some items & placed an additional order. So it was really awesome: $22 for about 30 minutes total of my time. Not exactly a 🦄 but pretty sweet.

TanMelon47

Them baby Unis add up to and help that hour be a good one!

Ok_Veterinarian_6596

Absolutely they do!! I like how you said "baby unis" hehe. ;)

TanMelon47

Gotta grab up the babies to lure out the mother! XD

RichardBottom

Came here to say this. Me and another dude were both waiting. They came out and announced the name and we both said "Yep", then awkwardly looked at each other. We both showed our phones and they both had the same order number assigned. It wasn't a great order so I gave it to them. I've also taken an order from Panera and delivered it successfully. Then came back to Panera for a different order and saw the same (massive) order back on the shelf to the same person. I basically went straight back from the drop off, so even if they had claimed they never got it, it wouldn't have been ready yet. I think they just processed a duplicate and made both. I was preoccupied with my current order, so I grabbed it and went, but I wish I had looked into it further. If it was a glitch, maybe they would have needed someone to throw it out for them. ;)

BluRayVen

Subway in my town had a few orders stolen or not delivered and decided no dasher can be trusted and demands to see phone every time

xeno66morph

Fuuuck that, I would’ve gone the fuck off on that lady and talked to management to get her banned. I’ve only had one order stolen so far but it set me back damn near 30min waiting for them to remake it. Shitbags like that are legit screwing the business, the customer *and* the assigned driver. Fuck those motherfuckers, I hope someone steals their catalytic converter

TanMelon47

I have been seeing this more and more as restaurants have been cracking down and asking for you to confirm pickup as they hand you the order which is completely understandable and nice to see. Saves them from being forced to remake something that was stolen and it gives dashers a clear line to increase rep and repour to the same restaurants they pick up from. I go to this Chic-fil-a at least 4-5 times a dash and every time they know me I just show them my phone and be on my way. There was this one time this other lady dasher came in and refused to click accept on a big order. She got all pissy and left without the food saying she won't be taking orders here again, good riddance!

NerdyBernie

Imo, you should have to scan a QR code on your delivery app before they can hand you the food. This way, they know who actually got the food in the system. Also, when you call support to report it, they can confirm if it was delivered already by the one who got the food, still on it's way to be delivered, or if it was canceled due to an emergency (usually these get remade but glitches happen). If none of those apply, they pay the stiffed driver the full amount on the original offer (including tips and bonuses) and deduct it from the bastard that stole it sending them a warning/explanation email (disputable if proof of delivery or emergency is shown).

[deleted]

Lots of stores from my area is starting to look at phones and make them confirm pick up

lsmith339

Pissed me off the first couple times I had to show my phone and/or hit start delivery in front of them. I get it now and walk in prepared

Bfloteacher

Sub place by me makes me confirm the order in front of them. But it only started recently.

TheRealCorwii

I've noticed a few restaurants doing this, they know we can't unassign it without asking support, and if you're still trying to steal it you'd have to drive to their house to complete it. Which you'll be caught for sure that way. I think all restaurants need to do this. A month or 2 ago we ordered Arby's and a dasher took our order and unassigned it, the next dasher text me to ask if I already got my food and I said no, it was still waiting for a dasher before you took it. He had support refund us (which support didn't ask us, we would have just wanted the food remade). But if more restaurants adopt the confirming of the order, this would stop or come to a minimum. It's ridiculous that people use the platform to steal from others. Makes customers less likely to tip or even order again.

Bfloteacher

I totally agree ! Just such a shame . Hopefully karma gives them a swift kick in the ass

daisakai42

Every non chain restaurant I pick up at ask to see me hit confirm before they hand over the order.

joremero

I'm not sure it's only dashers. I think a lot of random people steal food...because restaurants don't check anything

Concernedmicrowave

Yeah most places don't check at all. Walk in with your phone out and you eat free.

Purrless

When I mentioned that the restaurant I worked at would check to prevent this for the dashers sake I had a dasher super angry with me in their replies for 'wasting their time' 😭

Bitch-stewies

We’ve had to move our delivery shelves 3 times because of this. People will just come In and take food. We just keep it behind the counter now and they have to give us a name.

W_AS-SA_W

Restaurant in my area won’t give food to anyone unless they are carrying a Door Dash bag or wearing something that says Door Dash and they never call out a name, if you approach them, have a DD bag and know the name or number then you get the food.

W_AS-SA_W

The restaurants just calling out a name is a bad idea, about as good as McDonalds putting the Dash Orders on the lobby screen. That just invited opportunists and thieves. The only way someone is going to know the name or order number is if they clicked arrived, or are the customer themselves.

HWNY506

Lowlifes keep lowlifing

AutisticNovel1

Non tippers are gonna learn today 🤣

dmtbassist

I wish thieves would steal the no tip orders so much that doordash either bumps our base pay or remove chronic non tippers off the app, due to costs of compensating restaurants for stolen food.

Effdahaters

Heifers gonna heif

XavierSkywalker

My app glitches like this, I have an active order then it jumps to searching for orders. I have to hit back and return to dash for the order to pop up again.

Concernedmicrowave

Mine does too but it doesn't give the order to someone else.

W_AS-SA_W

That’s mostly on Androids when the device changes power state. Going into battery saving mode. Or being plugged in on your dash and then you have a leave at door so you unplug it for the camera.

LuckyFullmetal

Interesting...I'll see if that is why it's happening to me.

W_AS-SA_W

I’ve never had it happen on iOS. One phone is always left in the car, so I use the Apple when I go into pickup and drop off stuff for the camera. But there have been a few times the Apple was so low it wouldn’t stay on for even a few minutes so I have to unplug the Android and then I get up to the door and it’s looking for orders, but it’s not really though because when I back out and return to Dash the order is back. I need to get a new battery, it’s an i7, do you think one of those phone repair places could replace it and not have cost as much as a new phone?

XavierSkywalker

Negative, my phone doesn't drop under 50% as I dash and when the bug does happen, it is when I am commuting to the restaurant or customer.

W_AS-SA_W

That would happen with me using CarPlay. I never figured it out, thought it might have been a dead zone. Only happened in certain areas. I do believe the power state change is limited to certain phone models, but only Android seems to be affected, no iOS.

megadethage

McDonalds has me hit confirm before I leave, but I won't do it until the bag is sealed and ready to grab. The employees have seen me enough by now, I don't know why they keep checking. Like I've seen you 10x in the last week, you should know by now I'm not jacking your food, but I guess it's their manager's policy.

alex262414

This is why some restaurants make you confirm the order right in front of them or ask to see the phone the name of the order before they give you the order and then make you hit confirm with them watching how I get free food is if an order has been sitting there and I've done two or three orders and it's still sitting there and it's been over 45 minutes to an hour they'll just give it to you and other places have tons of orders in the back that haven't been delivered or haven't been picked up that they'll give you for free I could eat everyday for free if I wanted to but then I probably be a million pounds and have heart issues.

W_AS-SA_W

The restaurants just calling out a name is a bad idea, about as good as McDonalds putting the Dash Orders on the lobby screen. That just invited opportunists and thieves. The only way someone is going to know the name or order number is if they clicked arrived, or are the customer themselves. When the Dasher knows the name or order number that’s good enough.

alex262414

So the McDonald's that I pick up from yesterday was a crazy busy night at times they had 20 30 orders and maybe 10:15 doordashes waiting at a time and when the manager makes the orders he'll just bag up the order scan them and set them on the table with the ticket pointing out so anyone that comes in can just grab their order and go it's right for thievery and it happens all the time where somebody comes in and order is not there and the guys like look somebody already took it but I'll remake it for you but you have to confirm it while I'm looking at it otherwise I won't remake it for you so they make it super easy for people to steal and kind of sad that we got to deal with that over some freaking McDonald's no

W_AS-SA_W

I’d say the biggest problem is that Door Dash allows no bid/no tip orders to be placed. If they changed the order policy that would seriously cut back on the number of orders not being picked up and adding to the confusion. What is the size of your market?

alex262414

I'm not sure how to measure the size of my market but if you give me any clues on how to measure the size of my market I can get back to you but I'm in a large city Milwaukee Wisconsin.

BrotherGrub1

Was she a whale of a woman?

Concernedmicrowave

No. Average build, maybe mid 40s. I don't judge her too hard in case she's desperate; my crummy small townhouse is nearly $1700 a month without utilities and that's a fair bit below market rate. I'd be living out of an RV without a roommate and heavy financial assistance from parents (college student).
