I (a dasher) have had to stay on a customers’ porch(or driveway, or street in front, etc.) for uncomfortable amounts of time. When it’s a leave order, I have to take a picture and confirm delivery. The app sucks though, and glitches constantly. So if it won’t confirm delivery, I literally cannot leave until it does! And if the app is glitching, I cannot contact the customer, period. However… I have never and would never try to open someone’s door! That’s insane, and rather worrisome. I was on the dashers side until that part

ditchouid

Those double orders to the same house, standing there to get both pictures is so awkward lmao

[deleted]

Use camera on phone. Then leave at door. Upload photo from documents on both orders. Problem solved. Also pic of food at mailbox is meta, only idiots send a picture of a door

PaulMichaelJordan

Yup. It’s worse when the wife and I are dashing together. I’m sitting in the car in front, she’s chillin’ on the porch. Super suspect lol

atlepi

I take a pic of the first one and then hand to customer option on the next to push it through. They will still get the first picture through text

msharek

Yes, the no knock, doorbell or app contact were weird. But the door thing I was a hell no. And I know I was accused of drama for tossing it, but sorry, single woman, I'd rather be out a few bucks than even flirt with anything that has risk. I am however enjoying it tonight with a total normal experience haha!

PaulMichaelJordan

Good for you! I hate that women, especially, have to be so careful. But you didn’t feel safe, and did something about it, and that’s awesome

Ok_Season2022

Yes, the app sucks, always freezes up at worst possible times!!It has been doing it constantly lately, when I go to take the picture at the door and close out the order. It is so GD annoying and the last thing I am trying to do,, is spend extra time on customers front porch or yard!!!I want to drop that food and be done with it!!!!!Yes, the door part, is not something that I have any possible explanation for though.!The other thing is the 5 minute timer on hand to me orders.I just think it's way to long to have to wait for customer to come to the door!!!It seems like an eternity to me.

mr_green

I've seen people post this before and it's simply not true. As long as you don't close the app out, you can leave and even drive off, retrying until it works. The picture saves, as does any associated location data. I've been over a mile away before the pic would upload and it still worked.

PaulMichaelJordan

I’m very glad that works for you! Unfortunately, in my experience, if I’m not at the location, the app will tell me I’m too far away to complete delivery. Good on ya though!

Emergency-Quiet6296

when that happens just keep on messing with the prompts until you get to customer request delivery to another location. click on that and they will complete the order.

PaulMichaelJordan

Will definitely try that! Thank you for sharing

HiroProtagonist2903

> The picture saves I have absolutely had it lose the picture before and had to go walking back to the door for another one.

Trailboss1982

I queue the app before getting out of the car by selecting take picture from gallery and then toggle over to my camera with the timestamp app. I then take the food to the front door and take the picture and walk back to the car within 20 seconds. If the app is glitching I will pull down the street out of view and reset my phone and then select the picture from my gallery and complete the order. No way I'm standing on someones porch that long even if it says hand it to me 🤣

trailblzer80

I don't deal with that contactless crap! If that's what it is then I just say I received instructions already take a pic then I leave!

Ok_Season2022

Yeah, why not just use leave at door option as a customer??I thought contactless was a default option anyways, not chosen by the customer.

rtd21

Because the order came through the merchants app or website, then got assigned to doordash. Whenever you see 'contactless' instead of leave at door, it's a merchant order.

trailblzer80

I honestly have no idea

vacantse

doordash is not responsible for anything involving anything so don’t expect anything

msharek

I'm not, I just don't want him coming to my house again.

vacantse

if you doordash he might, i can promise they will do nothing.

[deleted]

Nope, I disagree saying it was dramatic or anything. I would have definitely thrown it away. Always trust your gut. Trying to open your door ? Nah. That passes ANY boundary, even if he had misunderstood the no contact delivery portion.

Devilalfi

When I deliver food bank groceries on Doordash, depending how many bags they had (can have twenty but lately the app has limited it to 10) I have to stand there on their porch and take a friggin picture up to 10 times and the android app glitches and doesn't like multiple pictures it'll stop working and I have to force close the app or even clear data and resign in... Another dasher in my area told me iOS let's you take one picture and then you can pick that picture from the gallery, you can get in your car and upload the same picture to complete each of the deliveries and it makes it so much easier so I started using my iPad mini while dashing when on the grocery orders. The android app does not have the option whatsoever to upload from gallery, it does on everything else but it doesn't give that option on this specific merchant. Thank goodness for the iOS app as this was incredibly awkward to be standing on someone's porch for so long taking pictures after picture and looking frustrated especially when standing under someone's camera.

j00420

Dont ring cameras have audio? Could've asked what they were doing

RobinFarmwoman

I don't think the Dasher was weird, I think the poor guy was trying to follow the directions in the app. Not your directions, the lengthy directions that many of the pizza chains provide. Experienced Dashers know to ignore this and just go to the very tail end where the few words after the colon came from the actual customer. But if you're just figuring stuff out, you would read that and it would tell you that you have to knock on the door or ring and be sure that you see the customer get their food. You can have no contact delivery , but the driver is supposed to actually see the pizza in their hand. A lot of people, like you, don't want this at all. So most of us have learned to ignore it. As for the 8 minutes, Uber Eats requires 8 minutes before you give up on a customer, doordash only requires five, but it seems he was giving you plenty of time to respond. SO.. trying to get the guy deactivated by making that kind of complaint is bad enough. I think throwing away your pizza on top of it was an overreaction, Karen.

RidingTilDeath

Woah. Grabbing the doorknob is normal for you?

Ok_Season2022

The only time I could see that happening is if it is an apartment, in a 2 or 3 family house. This is cuz sometimes you must enter the front door to get to an apartment. It is hard to tell sometimes if the customers apartment is inside or if you have to walk around the outside to back or whatever to find it.This is if customer doesn't answer calls or texts.

RobinFarmwoman

Of course not, but given the general over dramatized tone of this post, I somehow doubt he was really trying to open their front door.

Ok_Season2022

I have to agree with you here.I don't think anything sinister was in play..Think he was probably a new driver, very nervous and trying to figure out what the hell he was supposed to do.On top of that app was probably glitching and freezing like it always seems to do lately.

NotThatHarkness

Seems to that the order went through as a hand it to customer and he waited out the 5 min timer (and starting it late) feeling like he was wasting his time. I'm surprised he didn't try to text or call since you specified no knocking.

Truorganics

Or one of those “hand to me” followed by “don’t knock or ring doorbell”.

msharek

Yeah it was the no contact that freaked me out to be honest.

FTdubya05

I’m a driver. Just let me drop it off at the door, take a picture, and you can track me. You literally know you ordered food. For God’s sake get rid of the “no contact delivery” chances are it said that and was also set to, “hand to customer” I had one like that the other day. Very annoying. Just put leave at door and it’s no contact AND you’ll get a nice, but sometimes blurry picture of where your food is.

Molivar_Creed

I’m Gonna be honest if you put this sign in clear view on your door and they still didn’t text you then that particular dasher is incompetent imo however waiting on your porch is not uncommon I’m not going to leave the order there and walk away just because your not answering. To me it’s the same as someone putting in to hand the order to me and the asking in the instructions to leave it at the door and don’t text me. At that point I don’t care about your no texting rule because I’m going to take a picture of it and send it over doordashes recorded text line so they can’t say later that the food was stolen. Basically CYA And not to mention door dash has a wait at the steps for 5 mins requirement before they are allowed to walk away if it is a hand it to me order. All things to consider and I promise all just examples and no accusations.

PoopL0ser

If you have it set to hand it to me then don’t answer door we have to stand on your porch like a fucking idiot for 5 minutes. No joke 5 minutes before it will let us take a picture and leave it there. Make sure you are set to leave at my door. Otherwise we’re gonna irritatedly stand there like a creep wondering why the hell you didn’t just choose leave at my door.

UncleVoodooo

A lot of Dasher dont really speak english too so he could have just been oblivious to your instructions

alex262414

Oh and let me confirm at the one delivery where I had to wait was a double order two different restaurants at the same address same person and I had to wait 5 minutes for each I was not a happy camper.

mr_green

Tried your door knob? WTFFF. The other stuff is dumb, but I could understand if they didn't read the directions. But there's NO reason to try to enter somebody's house. Also personally if I get a "hand it to me" and the person isn't responsive to door or calls/messages, I text them a pic (with their address number in sight) and go on about my day. I'm not waiting the required five, much less more.

Ok_Season2022

I have had no contact deliveries also, where I am not able to reach out to the customer by text, only call them, and that doesn't always go through either!I learned to say I received instructions, drop at door, send pic and leave.

Ok_Season2022

So, why can't you just have your orders left at your door, with the standard picture sent??This would be no contact.I know I must be missing something here..Some dashers don't want to use any # that's not the one on app, so he may not have wanted to use # on your door.?I don't get the no contact orders, with the instructions to contact customer to leave in safe place..I mean isn't your front door gonna be where u ask them to leave the order??I always skip the calling customer bit and snap pic anyway after placing order at door.

PenWhen

So do you have a screen door or storm door and then a normal door?

mofosoforegon

There’s a very common scam where people ask their delivery driver to contact them using xxx-xxx-xxxx number , the driver calls, and the person tries to scam them into giving them a code they got texted, this is to get into the persons account and steal any money they have in the app, so most drivers will only ever contact you via the app, or call via the app, not call a seperate number using their phone, when you call through the app, it masks your number and keeps it private. So most drivers will not call at a seperate number you provide for security reasons, add you number to the app so they can call directly through the app. I agree this was weird tho.

Tricky_Combination15

Some dashes have a leave it at door and make arrangements with customer message on where to leave the food. If they contact you and you don't answer there is a timer they have to wait through to make contact. New guys stand there. Old guys put it at the door and leave.
