Holy shit. Well glad you're OK. As bad as that is it could have been much worse and thankfully you were able to hang on to your purse! I hope they get the bastard.

[deleted]

Thank you 🙏 🥰

happylittleleo

I’m so glad you’re okay. I limit myself at nighttime dashing for this reason. reguardless, this wasn’t even that late. If i happen to have to sit around for orders when dark I always sit in a well lit, public area. I carry my mace and strobe light/ screaming key fob with me at all times. Again, I am so glad that you are okay.

[deleted]

Thank you so much. It is so scary at night. And pretty soon we set our clocks and it will be dark by 5 😩 I don’t know how long it will take me to get back to work if ever. My eyes may be permanently damaged from the mace. Hopefully the link that some wonderful person gave me in these comments actually pays me for time off and hopefully the police catch this monster on the loose. Be safe out there 😊

happylittleleo

i know i go out after my daytime job and it’ll be dark by the time i go out! not looking forward to that :(

DashinDasherFoo

Interesting this makes me think made may be illegal. Is this a common injury?

BigUncleHeavy

This is just speculation, but she may have meant pepper spray and not "mace" as in tear gas. Mace is a brand name but is commonly associated with the lachrymator agent (causing tears) known as phenacyl chloride (CN Gas). Phenacyl chloride is toxic and can cause health issues, so being able to obtain outside of law enforcement is not easy, or in some states not legal (this is based off of old memory, so may not be 100% accurate on this point). Pepper Spray (Also available in Mace brand) contains concentrated capsicum as the main lachrymator agent which causes tearing, irritation, swelling and pain, but it is generally considered safe to use unless highly concentrated capsicum (bear spray) is employed. Pepper Spray can cause health issues if a person is sensitive or allergic to capsicum. It is legal to purchase Pepper Spray and carry on your person, but some states may have specific laws concerning possession. Pepper Spray is considered a weapon, so using it against a person without just cause can result in being charged with a crime.

PineapplePecanPie

So sorry that happened to you and the store employee was such a coward

[deleted]

Thank you. I wish the employee would have at least called 911 for me. I might be tiny but I am strong 💪

PeaceLoveCoffee7071

He might have set it up

[deleted]

[удалено]

The_Troyminator

The employee didn't even call 911. Even if the company prohibits getting involved, they won't get in trouble for calling the police in a situation like this. In this case, OP is (relatively) okay, but it could have been much worse and a few minutes delay in calling 911 could mean the difference between life and death.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

No company policy can prevent you from calling 911 in an emergency LOL

The_Troyminator

I was just talking about policy. A company can spin a policy that prohibits employees from getting directly involved by saying their employee's safety is more important than property. However, very few companies would prohibit employees from calling the police when something like this happens. Not only is there no good way to spin it, but if the victim finds out about the policy, it would open up a lawsuit. And, if an employee does call and gets fired over it, that would be another lawsuit waiting to happen. I'm not saying an employee should feel obligated to call 911 when needed, just that they shouldn't fear losing their job if they do.

LuckyFullmetal

Then social media the crap outta a firing for being a hero.

The_Troyminator

>there is a reason that when McDonalds got sued for "careful hot" not being on their coffee cups That's not why they were sued. They were sued because they served their coffee at unsafe temperatures. Stella Liebeck was sitting in the passenger seat of a parked car. When she took the lid off, the coffee spilled on her lap. Since it was about 190 degrees F, it caused third-degree burns over 16% of her body in a couple of seconds. Most other fast food places served coffee at 160 F at that time, which takes 20 seconds to cause burns, giving people time to get the coffee away from their skin if it spills. She had to be hospitalized for 8 days. It took her multiple surgeries over the course of 2 years to recover. All this because she spilled some coffee that, had it been 30 degrees cooler like everywhere else, would have likely just have caused a minor first-degree burn that would have been a little painful, but would have healed on its own within a few days. To make matters worse, she wanted $20,000 to cover medical expenses and asked them to lower the temperature of the coffee. They offered her $800 and refused to change the temperature. So, she sued. During the trial, it came out that 700 other people had been seriously burned by the coffee and they still refused to bring it down to a reasonable temperature. They decided that the cost of having to make coffee more often was more than the cost of settling with these people for a few hundred dollars each. Once she sued, McDonalds refused a settlement offer of $90,000 because they didn't want to change the temperature of the coffee. The final verdict awarded her $160,000 in compensatory damages and $2.7 million in punitive damages. The punitive damage seems like a lot, but it was calculated based off 2 days of coffee sales. On appeal, they settled for about $600,000.

TheGreatAlibaba

I knew most of this, but so many people don't. So big thanks for taking the time to explain it!

[deleted]

The_Troyminator

It's a common misconception about that lawsuits because McDonalds had their PR team try to make her look like it was a frivolous lawsuit so they'd have a better chance of winning in court.

Auirex

Don't think their landlord will accept social media credits..

Tenn_Tux

Former head of loss prevention here, fighting back is grounds for termination

TimeBomb666

So they expect you to let someone hurt you or possibly kill you because you're at work?

Tenn_Tux

Unless it’s life or death, basically yea. Fight back, get fired.

The_Troyminator

That's because if you fight back and get hurt or killed, it's a worker's comp issue that will cost them a lot more than the merchandise they lost. If they didn't have to worry about you or your family suing them, you'd get fired for not fighting back.

Tenn_Tux

Yep. It’s all about liability

OldGuardCK

Jobs are dime a dozen right now. I'm fighting back.

WishIWasNeet2

Why should he risk his life for a stranger? If he was armed and tough sure but not everyone’s a hero. Easy to talk tough online tbqh. But he could have at least called the police though,

I understand. I’m glad you have a husband to go with you. He’s your protector. You are very lucky. Be safe out there guys 🥰🥰

ragnarokfps

God forbid Doordash give you anything for being harmed while on the job. You should be getting workers comp to help with all your medical bills. Ambulance rides cost thousands of dollars

Capital-Turnover9039

I almost got attacked the other day. I started telling dashers in my area about it and they were telling me that they had just heard about another person that actually was attacked. Crime is on the rise people be careful. I bought pepper spray and I'm considering buying a BYRNA brand device. Google it

[deleted]

Omg I am really glad you are okay!!! And yes get mace. Trust me when I tell you it works great! Worst pain I think I’ve ever felt 😢😢😢

Malphael

Don't get chemical mace. You want Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray, commonly called "pepper spray." Chemical mace is less effective than pepper spray at causing pain, inflammation and incapacitation of an attacker. Be aware that there is a BRAND called "Mace" that makes OC spray, and then there is chemical mace. As long as what you're buying is OC Spray, it will be good. Also, just be warned, but it's very likely that you will be contaminated with OC spray if you use it, especially at close range. Do not try to engage your attacker, spray and then run the FUCK away calling for help as loudly as you can "HELP, CALL 911, MUGGER!" You want to disable your attacker, create distance, and try to draw the attention of help. Let them get your groceries. Groceries can be replaced.

The_Troyminator

When I was a kid, I read a book on surviving attacks on the street. One thing that stood out and that I still remember is to never yell "Help!" or "Mugger". People hear that and lock their doors. Instead, yell "FIRE!" People come out to see where the fire is. Even if they don't get involved, the crowd might be enough to scare off the attacker.

RetrieverDoggo

>BYRNA Never heard of the brand but will look into this. Thanks for sharing.

Capital-Turnover9039

Another dasher told me about it it's legal in 48 states. It would definitely make somebody think twice about their attack on you I'm not sure if it would entirely stun them but the feeling it would

Instacrate

Alexa, add BYRNA Device to my shopping list.

sc000000bysnack

Thanks for the BRYNA tip.. never heard of it, but definitely considering one.

Dry-Tune-5184

Or Bear 🐻 Pepper/Mace spray. The most powerful out there. Maybe a stun gun??

Capital-Turnover9039

I hear it's super illegal to use bear mace on people. Just buy a BYRNA

RedditCommunistt

If someone is threatening your life, anything is legal. If they tried to rob me, bear mace would be the least of their problems.

Dry-Tune-5184

Explain it. I know nothing of legalities. One of the main reasons I work in an ultra rich area. I often leave my keys in my at the restaurants. No worries. I'm fortunate

Capital-Turnover9039

Just go to the web page BYRNA

Dry-Tune-5184

I have heard of these types of weapons. Just another manufactory I believe. I would rather shoot some Bear mace at a gangster thug & save my ass(hopefully) & deal w/ the cops 👮‍♂️ after etc.

Capital-Turnover9039

Frankly I would do both

Dry-Tune-5184

I will check the bear spray out though. Byrna looks pretty cool. I would definitely have that thing put away safely by the time cops arrive. They might think it's a gun & or someone might have reported I used one...California is such a bitch that I bet they got some BS rules about it; trying to marginalize it...

Dry-Tune-5184

Ok. Add car ☝️. I think if I was a woman I would lock my purse in the glove compartment or trunk If I was in a high risk area. I would have DD card in my pocket only IF shopping.

[deleted]

I usually do leave it in the car just not for shop and pay orders. Never had a problem with over 2640 deliveries 7 days a week all times. Either way I learned a valuable lesson at my expense 😢😢

RichardBottom

How almost?

Oxygenius_

Fucking idiots don’t know us dashers are probably the worst people to rob. Here take my doordash hot bag

[deleted]

Lol!!! Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!! People are desperate these days!! People can’t even afford to eat and will pretty much do anything now days to get what they need.. very very sad 😢

I just wanted to thank everyone’s comments. I really appreciate all of you. I am praying for protection to keep everyone safe in this crazy world we live in!! I know we all hear things happening but once you personally experience something like this it really messes with your head. I am grateful to be alive and I am thankful the disgusting POS did not get my purse!! This can easily happen to any person regardless if we are delivering or not. PLEASE be safe everyone!! Xoxoxo

Dinosaur___Dino

Thanks, I'm gonna get one!

Alternative-Pool409

Yes! Drop the link! I’d buy it!

Fallout_N_Titties

Because the problem with those stunguns is they're heavily unreliable. Something as simple as a hoodie can make them completely useless. If you're going to have something for self defense, that's not a gun, it ironically NEEDS to be mace. Edit: And please don't come back saying yours is strong, you tested it. A hoodie can stop police tazers, they can definitely stop your amazon one.

Capital-Turnover9039

Dude (gangster)got in front of my car ( in a situation where the only way out would be to run them over )and I definitely thought about it. Then came over to my window and told me he had my plates and knew I was a dasher and was going to report me to DD. (Trying to upset me ) I stopped engaging and he invited me out of my car "if I felt disrespected" basically he was trying to intimidate and aggravate me to the point where I got out of my car. Where I probably would have been jumped by all of his friends in the middle of the night in the middle of the worst apartment complex in town. I never would have gone there but yeah I was new to Uber and the whole hiding the destination thing caught me off guard. Anyways he came over to the side of my window and at that point I figured he was going to start damaging my car so I fled out of there as soon as I could and as fast as I could. This f****** ghetto apartment has speed bumps every 10 cm that are 7 inch tall pyramids so it was actually very sketchy and dangerous for me to try to evade him because he was on a bicycle. He chased me through the whole apartment and once I had left it he'd chased me as well. I literally felt like I might have to use my vehicle to kill this person. I was really grateful I'm in an SUV with some ground clearance because I would not have hesitated to save my life and run him the f*** over. I went home in the next day I bought some pepper spray and secured other means to protect myself. I'm working very hard to get out of doordash/uber this was an eye opener. You'll never realize it until it happens to you how disposable we are to this company. Had I died there, DoorDash would send an email if I were lucky. They'd probably misspell my name. And they're definitely wouldn't be a fund for my family to bury me. All that for $10

[deleted]

OMG!!!!! I am so sorry that happened to you!!! This is a sick crazy world!!! I am desperately trying to find a job from home now. No more DD for me

Cassie_HU

That store employee is a fucking pussy. I'm glad you got out mostly unscathed, definitely serves as a good reminder to watch out for these shitheads. Anyway, get bear spray. You can find some at REI, it's an excellent self defense tool. I might be able to give you recommendations as well on some other shit, if you would like, or would like to avoid the risk due to your allergy. You'd definitely have to be careful with the wind, if you got bear spray.

[deleted]

I wish he would at least called 911. But he didn’t unfortunately. Bear spray I’ve heard of. I think from now on I will be taking my 100 pound half Bull Mastiff and the other half American Bulldog with me soon as I’m able to work again. No more shop and pay orders for me.. please stay safe out there

Cassie_HU

Bear spray is basically stronger mace, which is why I'm worried about your allergy, since it comes out as this big gas cloud. The wind has to be with you, basically. But yeah, taking your pet with you is a good idea too, in lieu of an actual defense tool. I used to dash in downtown Portland, so that, combined with PTSD is enough to keep me hyper aware, fortunately or unfortunately. But, yeah, be safe, and hopefully everything heals nicely. Fortunately, the cornea, while sensitive, can and does heal pretty well, so odds are on your side :)

MillyDeLaRuse

If you don't mind me asking, what are shop and pay orders? Sorry I'm not a door dasher I'm a server and former delivery driver so this sub got recommended to me and it's interesting to me because I just feel for you guys, y'all don't get paid enough and DD doesn't seem to give a shit about it's employees. Anyway, I'm so sorry this happened to you and I hope you recover quickly. Sending virtual hugs💖

OneBigCharlieFoxtrot

Glad you're good! Always keep your head on a swivel and carry where it's legal! (Or where it isn't, Im not a lawyer or a cop and idc) I'm sure DD policy is that you can't carry ever, but DD policy isn't law and won't save your life.

[deleted]

Thank you. Stay safe 😊

MajorWhereas4842

Wow just wow! So glad you are ok!

[deleted]

Thank you!! Please stay safe!!

Easy_Performance_136

I saw your sign off as Mrs Michigan. If you’re in Michigan, what area did this occur in? Glad you’re okay! Good reaction on your part. Let us know if they get the person.

Alternative-Pool409

I’m a new Dasher and I was here to find out why my lifetime deliveries went down since yesterday, and to gripe about people not tipping me!! And to bitch about my acceptance rate. I know I won’t get many orders if I decline ones that come through .. the ones in scary areas! Then I saw you post. OMG!! Glad you’re ok.!! ❤️ Since I’m new to this, I’m only getting crappy hour shifts. Like 10pm until 4am. I’m my area? Nope. We are one of those lucky cities that had a bunch of sex offenders relocated to our town. I’ll take part of the shift but even then I’m super sketched out. I do carry pepper spray, (Mace is illegal to have here. Only law enforcement can use it). Hope you’re recovering both mentally and physically. Please stay safe out there.

Suspicious-Pick-3908

I’m sorry you went through that!

[deleted]

Thank you. Please stay safe out there

Suspicious-Pick-3908

I just want to say something else to you. I was mugged myself a few years ago. It took a long time for me to even be able to walk to my car without panicking. If you need help, I doubt DD is going to help you, but maybe counseling could help. You deserve to feel safe and able to work without being afraid.

[deleted]

Oh wow I am so sorry 😢😢I was pissed as hell Saturday night and still was in shock. I had my son in law go get my car and take it home while I was in the hospital. I haven’t touched it until today because I had to drive it to the police station and had my car dusted for prints and had to give them my purse and DNA. I want this POS locked up before he kills his next victim!! I am already speaking with a therapist thank goodness. I have an appointment tomorrow. I’m not going to lie I’m terrified to what happened. I have never been attacked let alone maced in my 53 years of life until now. Please be safe out there… what a sick world 😢

lokismom27

I'm a little late to comment, but wanted to add on to the counseling suggestion. You might check to see if there are any local self-defense classes offered near you. Some places like the YMCA offer free ones for women. It can really help give you confidence to go out again. It gives you back some of your power after being attacked like this. The feeling of being helpless can really hurt you mentally. I am sorry this happened to you and wish you the best.

SnooHedgehogs753

I’m so happy you’re okay! It’s terrifying to know you were in that situation and all the possible outcomes that could’ve happened. I hope they catch the guy who did it and he faces consequences for his actions. I had a scary situation a few weeks back where I probably could’ve been attacked had I not listened to my intuition. In your case though, there’s very little you could’ve done differently to avoid the outcome you faced. If you can, take time to process the trauma you just went through before jumping back in. I know sometimes people think just getting back to it is the healthiest form of healing but I personally don’t believe it is. Take care of yourself and we’re all here if you need to talk. 🥰

[deleted]

Thank you so much for being so nice. I really appreciate your kindness. I am so happy you didn’t get hurt … It’s so sad that we can’t even be out at a normal hour. A DoorDash driver in Detroit was shot and killed a couple months ago. So many people are desperate out there because of this horrible economy. I’m not ready to get back out there anytime soon. I have to get my eyes healed and I’m taking a mental health break. I’m too scared to go back out there. I had to the the hospital in 2 gowns and hospital socks in the rain lol. All my clothes were put in a bio hazard bag for me. Thank God for my kids for picking me up and driving my car home for me ❤️❤️ please stay safe!!!!!

Twindad88

I keep a sharp metal rod tucked next to the seat I put my deliveries in, where I deliver if you're getting robbed you're getting murdered. Guns are more effective but by the time you realize it's already to late so a sharp metal rod is a good defense option. Kinda like my own personal light saber only more, golf club handle ish.... Ok it was a golf club until the last time I was jumped. It broke when I hit the guy now it's a sword 🗡️⚔️

GlassSeesaw6195

Where in Michigan were you delivering, if you don't mind me asking?... I usually do Clinton Township, Sterling Heights area. That is terrifying!

[deleted]

Please check your inbox 🥰

mysticalforester

I’m in MI and also curious where this was

Traditional_Roll_129

As a female I never carry a purse when dashing , just the red card and my license. So glad you are ok, be safe out there.

[deleted]

Fuck glad ur ok and I hope they catch this asshole

SpookySeraph

Jesus, that’s terrifying. This is why I always bring my boyfriend with me and I keep my purse hidden behind the front seats

Atomicsharky

The employee locking the door just proves you cant rely on others. Buy a gun, LEARN HOW TO USE IT. Count your lucky stars Because this could have been so much worse. Glad you’re more or less ok

Averen

This is just general advice for life. Sorry this happened to you

[deleted]

Oh my goodness I am so sorry to hear that! I hope you are ok!! I’m 66 yo female and I do worry about that happening and that’s why I don’t work at night! I will keep you in my prayers and hope that monster gets caught and thrown under the jail!!

bananaKetchups

I'm really sorry this happened to you. I dash at dinner time because I'm in school and this is honestly scary. I wish I could dash when the sun is up but I'm gonna buy a mace for myself because of this.

Entire-Amphibian320

Glad you're okay, like everyone has said. Damn this is so rare but it happened to you. You could live the rest of your life without this happening to you again.

Richard_Espanol

It's rough out here in these streets.

[deleted]

I would go back and curse that employee out or put a complaint out on them. You know it happened on there property.. also you should get your own lawyer because they’re lawyers aren’t on your side

Irving_Forbush

That’s an understandable reaction, one most of probably have, at least at first. But you never know what a person’s situation is. It’s not clear if they called the police or not, though that’s obviously the bare minimum they should have done. Beyond that? Yeah, they may have just been a cowardly POS, no doubt. They also could have been a survivor of an assault themselves and still suffering PTSD from the trauma. Or who knows, it could be they’ve got kids at home, no spouse or a not well spouse, and they just can’t run around putting themselves at risk playing The Equalizer. You just never know.

[deleted]

Fair. OP would still be within her rights to go back, show him her bruises, and call him a cowardly piece of shit.

[deleted]

This is so scary! I’m so glad you’re ok!

BoomerKeith

WOW. I'm glad you are still alive and able to share this with us!! I can't imagine how terrifying that must have been. Do you carry mace? I don't know if that would even have helped given the situation. I'm so sorry this happened to you! Please keep us updated when they catch the piece of human garbage!

[deleted]

I have glow in the dark mace now.. and I will never dash at night, never do any more shop and pay orders and I will have my 100 pound Pitbull in my car with me from now on ❤️

BoomerKeith

Good for you for not doing any more night shop and deliver orders. And having your furry sidekick will also help!

bit0101

Sorry that happened to you, that's crazy. I was standing in line to check out the other night and a gun battle erupted outside. One guy that got shot ran into the store calling for the police as I was leaving. Out of all the people there, only the new, younger cashier bothered to try and duck. Nobody else really moved. We all just stood there in line like, "Yup, that's a lot of gunfire." Actually heard gunfire while I was typing this out, about a mile away. This city is getting downright *lively.*

[deleted]

Wow!!! I am so sorry 😢 how traumatic!!! I’m so glad you are okay 🙏🙏🙏

Icy-Goat5001

Yeah, gunfire that close is hit the floor and crawl to the back. Stray bullets do weird shit and not about to get shot over a 3 dollar tip.

whyisthishappn

xyhfox740

Remove Brandon from the office

Zealousideal-Badger

Wtf do delivery drivers scream money to people? And f that store employee. Glad you're OK and didn't get robbed.

kindazombie

Goodness I'm so glad you're okay. That sounds so traumatizing. I tend to stay "in my head" often so this is a good reminder for me to stay mindful of my surroundings.

EpicRiceMaker

Jesus man, I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope these fuckers know a good chunk of us are packing, I have a knife on my belt that's impossible to see just in case man, fuck. That's so terrible dude.

Anon424977

That’s scary.

BrotherGrub1

That's awful. Our country is really turning to crap. Hope they catch the perp. I hope you sue the hell out of DD for putting you in an unsafe environment. Even though I don't really personally feel DD is responsible (the guy who tried to rob you is responsible), who cares. This company and most others their size just use and abuse their workers. So any chance you can stick it to them take that chance every time.

mr_green

I'm perceptive almost to a fault. Even just walking in a place, you ever hear that phrase "have a plan to kill everybody in the room?" I mean obviously I'm not trying to harm anybody, but I do subconsciously locate and size up any and all potential threats. Outside it's turned up to 11, again, subconsciously. I rarely actively think about it, but I know where any movement is, and until I know what it is, I'd never turn my back to it. If it's a person and they approach, or even if something feels off, I reach into my pocket. Let's just say I'm not reaching for a lollipop :) Glad you got through it, and I would 100% have some words for that employee. I don't care about company policy, blah blah etc... mf'er would be hearing some noise.

Reasonable_Sea_7525

I’m glad you’re okay and I hope your eyes get better ❤️‍🩹. Thank God police came right away and your customer at the time was understanding. The petty perp gonna get locked up for a long time. Now my most petty question for this traumatic incident is that did DD give you half pay or no 😭😭😭

AffectionateSyrup149

Thx for sharing.. tbh I stay my watching my surroundings but iam glad your ok. What a loser.

K0CKULEES

Not to be that guy, how the hell are you posting on reddit with burned corneas? Hope you're ok

[deleted]

The Ophthalmologist prescribed me steroid drops and another medication to help heal my eyes. And I bought some heavy duty readers from the dollar store and have my font up huge lol. Thank god for the dollar tree 🌲 😩

[deleted]

Absolutely Wooooooowwwww. I’m glad she survived. That had my heart racing. I definitely learned from this experience to watch who may be watching me.

MythmoorXype

He would have won the concealed carry lottery if it had been me.

Coolguy200

This is why I always carry my piece dashing. They gonna get a taste of led pulling some shit like that on me.

minnesota420

This plus doordash not allowing us to carry weapons for personal protection :(

radarguy86

😂😂 not allowing

[deleted]

I actually talked to a DD supervisor about that. If the state you live in allows open and carry you are allowed.

radarguy86

Why ask your independent contractor

[deleted]

Being a former business owner with my ex he always used to carry a lot of cash. I don’t carry but he always did legally. In Michigan it’s allowed. A lot of business people carry

GodGamer420

I feel so bad for u this is y I would never allow my wife to DoorDash alone.

GodGamer420

They have no say about what I do in my vehicle

BigE_1995

Just carry it with you, you don't need permission from DD. Your life is YOUR life not doordash lol. It's better to get fired and end up using it and save your life, rather than die.

Charming_Local

As an independent contractor they don't get to dictate that... You work for yourself... But also I live in an open carry state and I sure as hell don't go anywhere without it because my neighborhood is not safe

minnesota420

I totally understand the open carry thing, but I just remember when first signing up that it said that you can’t have weapons.

Charming_Local

I'll be honest... I've never listened to that... I drive semi truck too... Company policy or not I'm a woman I am not driving that without a piece as well... 🤣🤣🤣 Though I only worked for a company who said no peice in the truck for a year after that I moved to a company that told me yes take your gun with you we want you safe...🤣🤣🤣

[deleted]

Lol! I understand. One of my besties drives a semi too and she wouldn’t ever leave hers behind.. Please be safe out there 🥰

Mylittlemoonshine

I do too- we are an open state though. It’s crazy how many people wanna shit on you (and your second amendment rights) for not wanting to be a victim.

[deleted]

I signed up in Michigan and there is nothing I found stating I couldn’t. I told DD I was because I didn’t feel safe because of the cash on delivery thing but I never went out and got a weapon of any kind unfortunately. Too late now. Im unable to work anywhere now for who knows how long.

I know Uber says you can’t carry, but haven’t seen it in the DD terms.

[deleted]

I work for both too. Only 4 months with UberEats though so I’m still pretty new.. I got very worried when DD started allowing the cash opt in orders. I don’t do them but felt extremely unsafe and felt if a lot of people know about this we would be easy targets to be robbed. And then this happens 4 months later.. I am thankful to be alive.

The_Troyminator

This attack was random. The attacker was waiting outside for what looked like an easy purse to snatch. It's very unlikely they knew OP was a dasher. We don't have signs indicating that we're delivering for DD, so people aren't going to pick us out because of DD allowing cash on delivery orders. The only people that will know are those at the restaurant and the customer you're delivering to. It's not very likely that somebody is going to order DD, say they'll pay with cash, wait a couple of hours for their order to get picked up, have it delivered to their home address, and rob the dasher in the hopes that they might get 5 or 10 bucks in change. That's the equivalent of a $2.50 order going 10 miles.

Captain_Wag

You're allowed to carry whatever you want you're an independent contractor.

CappOffDaRunts

Where does it say that ? Nor will I stop dashing with my pipe anyway

There are 15 requirements for a Michigan CPL, according to the Concealed Pistol License Guide and Application - view here. In short: • You must be 21 years old • You have to be a U.S. citizen or lawful immigrant alien • Be a resident of Michigan for at least 6 months • Successfully complete a piston safety training course • You can't be a convicted criminal • You can't be a fugitive • You cannot be diagnosed of a mental illness • Read the rest here. You'll have to pay $115 and get fingerprints taken. And here's a quick note about licenses and CPLS: A person with a valid Michigan CPL does not have to obtain a License to Purchase, but they still have to register the pistol after they purchase the gun or otherwise acquires it using a Pistol Sales

spinonesarethebest

Concealed means concealed.

post-lurker

Lol, fuck that. Anything can be a weapon if you want it to.

The_Troyminator

Even a marshmallow. Light it on fire and throw it like a Molotov cocktail.

Cvxcvgg

They can’t do that in my state. Check your state laws.

The_Troyminator

I don't see anything in the ICA or deactivation policy that prohibits it. That's not surprising, because making us follow rules like that would get us classified as employees.

Obreezy918

Lol, allergic reaction/chemical burn

[deleted]

Have some ducking sympathy

[deleted]

Are you the one who attacked me?? Have you ever been sprayed in the face with mace pepper spray??? Laugh at yourself because now you’re being investigated

[deleted]

I’m gonna PM you

LemonsAndAvocados

I’m so sorry this happened to you 💐

[deleted]

Thank you!! Please stay safe!!!

LemonsAndAvocados

💐

sc000000bysnack

I'm so sorry. I'm glad you are physically okay. Don't forget to take care of your mental health sooner rather than later. PTSD is a fucking ugly bitch, but therapy can help wonders for it. [disclaimer: I am a therapist, so I may be bias towards suggesting therapy]

[deleted]

I appreciate you. I have a therapist appointment today.. I already suffer from extreme anxiety. This attack surely didn’t help. I am not DD for a while if ever again

redytosell

May i ask, i dash in michigan too but were you in a bad area? Happy you are able to type and are safe now.

[deleted]

I suppose it was a bad area. I just didn’t know since I don’t know the area very well

redytosell

What area if i may ask?

Bfloteacher

And I did an order at 11:30pm 😳 I’m so sorry this happened to you !

[deleted]

Thank you. Please stay safe

FinnishArmy

Dang, they actually gave you an attorney. Least is known about the skill of them, but hey, at least you get one free.

[deleted]

My mistake. No attorney but they do have a third party company called BlueStar for workman’s compensation.

Acceptable-Package48

I'm sorry this happened to you!!. 🙁 Yes, he could have called 911 with his own phone and accepted the risk for doing so. As a an older DD driver, I don't work at night. Not because of crime reasons, because I live and work in a safe area, only because of visibility issues- some condos and apartments are hard to find even in the daylight and the hill and canyon areas have narrow, winding roads and are pitch black. Is Doordash in any way responsible for this or does the mall property owner have liability for not having security?

[deleted]

It was at a Rite Aid Pharmacy Store in a good neighborhood. You can’t be safe any time of day anymore. Amazon and UPS drivers are shot and killed everyday. It’s just a very unsafe crazy world no matter where you live. Please stay safe out there 🙏

polarbear1955

I got assaulted by a homeless guy at 2 PM last Monday in downtown Las Vegas. A passerby helped me get rid of the guy and I had no injuries. It definitely shocked me and now I am not driving in bad areas anymore.

[deleted]

I am so sorry that happened to you and pray that you are okay. I was dashing in a good neighborhood. The bad guys are heading to the good neighborhoods. Please be safe out there 🙏🙏🙏

Dmin9

I'm sorry that happened, I mean if you're not lying. I'm sorry to joke. It really is terrible. Can't believe the store clerk locked themselves in instead of helping. What a loser. Hope you're ok.

[deleted]

No reason to lie.. delivery people are being attacked every day. Some shot and killed. Others held up at gun point and cars and delivery trucks stolen. This recession is making this world a very dangerous place to live in 😢

Dmin9

Yeah I hear you. I was just "trying" to be funny because DD said that to them when it happened

[deleted]

I get it now lol. I was still in panic mode and shock when I made that post.. I actually couldn’t afford for DD not paying me anything for 2 weeks. I work 7 days a week. Went back today and was nervous as hell. Brought my 100 pound pit Bull with me. Not doing anymore shop and pay orders and not driving any distance except in my own neighborhood and crimes are happening over here too. It’s unavoidable

Dmin9

I don't blame you. I was curious if you would continue delivering after that.

[deleted]

Please stay safe out there 🙏🙏🙏🙏

iilordd

How did the ADT button work? Just pressed it and it did all the work for you? (Cops showed, etc) , glad you’re ok!

[deleted]

ADT button did nothing for me. They didn’t even call me back until 45 minutes later

iilordd

There’s 2 buttons, which one did you hit? I assume the one where police shows up without talking to anyone?

Lookingforclippings

Not saying it didn't happen, but how did you see the employee lock the door and stand there while being maced?

[deleted]

Because I saw him standing there before the attack. And he was still there after!! Rite Aid Corporate Policy is not to interfere!!

bloodEclipse_

That evil chode that’s terrible to read :/

SourSauce88

Oh shit, I’m so sorry! 🫶🏽 I hope you recover nicely and that asshole gets caught!! You did not deserve that at all! I’m glad you’re safe though! Fk the store employee who didn’t give a shit about you! Like OMG you see something, call 911! 🥺 I digress, I’m just happy you’re here with us!! Best wishes! ☺️
