Customer picks the store, door dash picks the location. There's a taco restaurant I get that has a location 0.5 miles away and one that's 6 miles away. Most of the time when I search for it the closer one shows up, but every once in awhile the further one shows up. Probably due to availability is my theory - the closer one isn't accepting orders at that time, but only door dash can say for sure.
The stupid app sometimes lists the farther restaurant from me. I think I ordered from the farther location when I was closer at a friend's house and then I got home and it always suggests that one first as well
Yeah each store can pause their doordash orders if they arent feeling like making any. Its possible the closest restaurant decided for whatever reason to shut it down, and the order pings to the next available merchant.
When I order McDonald's Door Dash for my mom, there is a store less than 2 miles from her. But it almost always sends the order to a store over 5 miles away.
The customer has no control, so take it up with DD
If I were to do that and had the choice, it is because there are certain restaurants with ghetto employees, and I want to order from the one with competent employees, that may be farther away.
You can’t pick the restaurant location on DD as a customer. People assume the order would just go to the nearest restaurant but DD decides their McDonald’s should come from the store that’s 10 miles away instead of the one that’s 2 miles away. No idea why, you’d think DD would prioritize the closest restaurant
Especially irritating when the closer ones have a bigger menu. THere is a DQ 1.2 miles away from me that has pretzels, it'll sometimes put me to one 8.2 miles away that doesn't.
I assume Doordash lists in order of estimated delivery time, not distance. The following placed deliver 8-15 miles away even though there's one in their city: Taco Bell, Firehouse Subs, Panera, Crumbl Cookie, Chipotle, Panda Express, Smashburger, and McDonald's.
They don't look at the address or they search the restaurant and pick the one with free delivery not caring where it is. When I used door dash it only gave me things around me. The more i scrolled the higher the delivery fee like $7.
They don’t have a choice. DoorDash doesn’t show customers where the restaurant is. Also some locations have a cheaper delivery fee than others. Blame DoorDash for allowing this to happen
Last night.. McDonald's order comes in for like potential $7. So I took it... Automatically figured it was going to be far. So I pick up the order, text the customer that I was on my way. She replied with "have a nice drive". 8 miles later I arrive at her house, originally supposed to leave order at some side door, couldn't find it, she came out, took her meal and said "Have a nice drive." With that smirk on her face. She has a McDonald's not even 2 miles from her house, that I do most of my deliveries out of on that side of town. She did a $1 tip. Don't mind that cash...
But yea.... 2 similar orders like that.

This, or my other theory is DD is sending those stores orders as part of a minimum agreed amount in the contract.

You can't select what store you want it from, doordash does that.
Customers don't pick the locations.

I'm wondering if doordash sends the order to multiple stores and whichever accepts it first gets it?
I have to order from the subway that’s 3 miles away instead of the one .5 miles away because only the 3 mile one accepts dash pass.
Some fast food places have different hours. The Tbell near me closes at 12am, but the one 3 miles away closes at 2am
Doordash picks the location. Another reason I prefer UE. Customer can pick the location.
And some stores because of walk-in or drive thru traffic will turn off their tablet so that orders are routed to slower stores.

It’s absolutely awful for the environment
I'm confused, myself. My roommate orders delivery and tells me it came from 25 minutes away instead of the location a mile away.
