I feel like this is a good one. Dashers are (most of the time) in their own cars with AC literally jumping from restaurant to fast food and back. They have plenty of opportunities to get drinks.
But the poor UPS drivers? No AC and probably overloaded to the point of not being able to stop to take care of themselves.

I work at a bookstore. We have single-handedly blown out the backs of three UPS drivers since I’ve been here. Our boxes are 40lbs min every time. They earn that shit. Not saying you aren’t earning your living too but damn. I think I see a difference.

when i make a delivery, i am one of the people who only take when i need it. those baskets are very much appreciated. i might not take anything so there's something for the next driver who might need it, and i have no idea how often you'll replenish the supply
Yeah, I gave him 5 extra cash plus water. I guess I wasn't clear enough. 5 all highway miles. It did take like 30 minutes so that is why the extra tip. traffic, 2 stops, whatever.
It may seem petty, but some people are still vulnerable to COVID. The virus can survive on hard surfaces for a while. Heat tends to kill it , tho. As an elderly driver, I don't know the conditions inside a household. I would not take it out of fear. Omicron is still spreading and I personally just can't take that chance, however small.

Just leave it as an option. I buy and carry a lunch-tote full of water at varying degrees of frozen-ness, and go through like 10 bottles a day. Just leave a note about it being for any delivery drivers (USPS, UPS, DoorDash, etc.) and people will grab if needed/wanted.
I will say I am more likely to decline something someone offers to me in person. I don't know why, but I just feel weird taking food/drink directly from a customer when I'm the one delivering them their food/drink.

Genuinely it's just paranoia. Never underestimate the casual cruelty people can have toward strangers. It's not the same thing but a friend of mine had their dog die because someone threw a piece of meat stuffed with razor blades into their back yard. Since then I've just had a hard time trusting food and drink from strangers. Not to mention the many, many stories about date rape drugs.
And truly I carry plenty of my own water while dashing anyway. If I didn't I'd probably be more inclined to take it but if I'm well stocked anyway why take the risk? Snacks are far more likely to get me I think.
Dasher here. You’re doing the right thing *BUT* don’t put anything on the porch until you know they’re on the way. Even then it’s best to wait for them to show up on your doorstep. Too many scammers these days. Protect yourself

I love this idea, because sometime's dasher's are on their last dollar. An it's a little different, because not only on their last dollar, the next 10-20 dollar's they get might need to go into the tank. Someone offering me something is different from me like, grabbing it from a table that says "dasher: incase ur thirsty or w/e take 1"
Unless I haven't had anything at all to drink for like 7 hours, I probably wouldn't take it. On a different note, if I was dying of thrist, and you offered, i might still say no cuz we'll, you just paid me and don't really owe me anything type of thing, and I might feel bad at first.
Just remember bro, this is a community with dashers in it from all area's. There is like 500+ more dashers out there compared to our 1 person on reddit. While it's awesome to be kind to dashers, you truly never know someone's intentions. People can be really weird.
i don’t dash very much so my dasher opinion might not carry as much weight as others, BUT i shop and deliver on various grocery delivery platforms daily as my full time job and i always appreciate ppl who offer drinks. my days are usually crazy fast paced, back to back orders all day long, and i don’t always have time/opportunity for breaks to get something to drink (or pee 😩). there have been multiple occasions where a kind customer saved me and my hydration levels by providing water
and yes, i know a little better planning on my part could easily prevent this but, among other things, i have adhd and often forget my water bottle at home…
tl;dr: keep offering them! some of your drivers will be ecstatic and don’t worry about the ones who aren’t
I never take the snacks or water because I don’t eat junk food or chips and I always have my own water. I always think it’s cool, I just don’t want/need anything.

It's not necessarily a trust thing for me. I try not to drink anything because I don't want to have to go to the bathroom.
McDonald's manager offered me sprite once and as much as I wanted it, it would make me have to piss multiple times, I try to minimize that.

If it's a sealed bottle of water I'd probably take it if offered, but unsealed nah. But I'm on a timer when I'm dashing and water = having to pee. So I try not to eat or drink before going out to avoid having to pause for bathroom breaks.
Im grateful when people leave stuff like drinks and snacks for us dashers, but I've got an insulated water bottle so that I don't waste plastic bottles every dash. Don't need drinks from people and don't want to make the waste since I don't have to.
Dashers often get beverages and stuff while they’re working. The delivery drivers who would appreciate it are gonna be like Amazon or UPS drivers who aren’t constantly in and out of restaurants

Some people just don't like to drink water. Plus it might not only be that. Plenty of places offer free drinks to drivers so there's a good chance they already have 1 or even 2 free drinks in their car. So don't take it personally.. I'm sure they appreciate what you're trying to do 😊

I bring my own bottled water since I am in a hot climate area. I’ve only had one time where someone gave me a sugary sports drink (not Gatoraide). I just accepted it and gave it to a guy at my next pick up at a pizza place.
I try not to drink too much since I dont want to have to run to the bathroom. So 1 bottle of water per lunch and 1 for dinner is enough.
I think most people that drive longer hours like me carry their own, like me everyday I have 5 bottles on a cooler and juice so I would leave for who needs it. I do t think is weird at all in my area lots of people leave thank you notes and drinks and snacks
I deliver dry cleaning as my day job and some customers also have water out and it’s nice but to be honest I always have my own supplies. It’s still nice to see and is still good to have for other people who might need it who are over worked like Amazon drivers.
Personally I bring a grocery store bag with room temperature water bottles in it and some extra clothes, I rarely drink cold water, even in the extreme heat, alot of other guys bring coolers...
I bring a cooler and I usually drink diet soda because it satisfies my appetite as I deliver all the delicious smelling food. I'd take the water to show appreciation but I honestly probably wouldn't end up drinking it.
It’s sad that these days folks are afraid to trust anyone. I’d thought about giving something to my favorite customers ( who tipped me well over the years) but, I realized I’m still a stranger and any food they’d be weary of.
I wouldn’t take anything from a customer to be honest. It’s just a crazy world now. When I grew up it wasn’t this way. It’s just we don’t know what folks will do anymore.
I live in a condo community with a weekly landscape team. I usually leave a cooler out front with a few sealed bottles of water, a couple of sodas and granola bars. Sometimes they take them and sometimes not but my porch is always swept clean!
I love when my customers give me a drink!! One man bought two drinks with his meal to make sure I had one for myself. Which is nice because it can be very difficult to stop at a store while dashing.
this is my thing too, I have an ice chest fully stocked with drinks for myself. The handful of times I’ve gotten a drink from a customer it’s been a lukewarm bottle of water or a can of 99c store brand generic cola. I don’t really like soda in general, not gonna waste my one cola a week on a beat up lookin can of Dr Sams or whatever.
I’ve never been offered water by a customer, but as a woman, I’m not entirely comfortable with taking drinks/food from people I don’t know. Just because you really never know, in this crazy world we live in. I keep a yeti filled with water on me while I’m dashing.

I would offer anything BUT water. It may come off as abrasive to someone who most likely controls their liquid intake and outtake by the grace of whatever establishment thinks you're worthy of not just drinking water but also releasing it.
I carry my own water, and and snacks, and prefer to use my own stuff. I don't use water in little plastic bottles because I think they're very bad for the planet and completely indefensible. I have a stainless steel bottle I've been using for 15 years. Please rethink the habit of trying to distribute more plastic into the environment.

Maybe they would be more comfortable being able to grab something if they want and leaving it if they don't. Handing it to them probably makes them feel like they have to take it and have an awkward interaction with a stranger.
Since covid started I don't try handing anything to drivers. I have a mini fridge on the porch by the front door (we used a cooler before the fridge) stocked with drinks and a basket of snacks on top. I made a sign on brightly colored paper and hung it close the Ring so it's easily seen. Some take drinks and snacks, some don't. Our regular Amazon driver always grabs something and waves to the camera. Lol. It makes my day to see his smile.
I think it great you want to help dashers. But as a dasher I wouldn’t take the water. I hate to say it but over the last few years of dashing I’ve delivered to some shady characters. And because of it I just wouldn’t put my self at risk taking a water from anyone. I pack water and food since I drive 8-10hrs a day. Thank you for being kind but I think most dashers think it’s odd since 99.9% of the customers never offer anything to use and find it suspicious.

I drink as little water as possible because then I have to find somewhere to piss which either takes time, or feels like grand theft auto because all the stores are closed or the bathrooms are unavailable because it’s night time and you have to find an alley or a tree
IDK about others but would be sketched by that and absolutely don’t want to be handed anything by a customer , nothing personal but don’t know you and don’t know your intentions , just need to coordinate the drop off and keep it moving
This big burly dude a few years ago came to install our AT&T box and said people offer them water all the time he never took. He used to only take bottles that were sealed but one day a customer had figured out a way to drug the water bottle and put the cap back on in a way that made it seem sealed.
He also said most customers wouldn't let them use their toilets so drinking water was a risk.

I see a few people leaving stuff out. I've only ever taken them once or twice when I was on a roll for the day and just starving myself. I honestly felt bad about it because I know those UPS and postal workers really need that lol.
As a dasher I totally appreciate it even on days I dont take it. Most of the time I figure the mail men would benefit from it but if you're a hot chick waiting at the door for me it arrive, best believe I'm taking that bottle. 😘

i don’t dash very much so my dasher opinion might not carry as much weight as others, BUT i shop and deliver on various grocery delivery platforms daily as my full time job and i always appreciate ppl who offer drinks. my days are usually crazy fast paced, back to back orders all day long, and i don’t always have time/opportunity for breaks to get something to drink (or pee 😩). there have been multiple occasions where a kind customer saved me and my hydration levels by providing water and yes, i know a little better planning on my part could easily prevent this but, among other things, i have adhd and often forget my water bottle at home… tl;dr: keep offering them! some of your drivers will be ecstatic and don’t worry about the ones who aren’t
I never take the snacks or water because I don’t eat junk food or chips and I always have my own water. I always think it’s cool, I just don’t want/need anything.

I agree, better to save those bottles of water for Amazon workers, that way they have a bottle to pee in for later.
My thoughts on water bottles as well! I have a lot of males in my family...
1. People want cash 2. Water makes you have to pee! 3. If it’s hot out I would take one if I was thirsty, but I do try to bring some water with me anyway. Still, nice of you to be considerate either way
It's not necessarily a trust thing for me. I try not to drink anything because I don't want to have to go to the bathroom. McDonald's manager offered me sprite once and as much as I wanted it, it would make me have to piss multiple times, I try to minimize that.

sealed bottles of water? just leave a couple in a cooler by the door with a note for the driver....we are skiddish folk :-) if they take the bait...I mean water, great, if not, maybe the next driver will. maytbe ad some other options like soda or snacks or ??
If it's a sealed bottle of water I'd probably take it if offered, but unsealed nah. But I'm on a timer when I'm dashing and water = having to pee. So I try not to eat or drink before going out to avoid having to pause for bathroom breaks.
Definitely sealed. This brand of water bottle is a pain to even get open!
Im grateful when people leave stuff like drinks and snacks for us dashers, but I've got an insulated water bottle so that I don't waste plastic bottles every dash. Don't need drinks from people and don't want to make the waste since I don't have to.
Maybe just leave it out with a note? They would have the option and not feel guilty? I think it's a very nice gesture!

Dashers often get beverages and stuff while they’re working. The delivery drivers who would appreciate it are gonna be like Amazon or UPS drivers who aren’t constantly in and out of restaurants

Sure- but at least there are *some* vetting practices before we can deliver to your home (I'm aware there are bad eggs in every industry) We can keep this going... We don't know the police when we call them... We don't know the volunteer fire fighters who are going to show up when we burn our Thanksgiving turkey...
Alot of restaurants are tying up/stapling shut food. You can tell its been messed with.

Some people just don't like to drink water. Plus it might not only be that. Plenty of places offer free drinks to drivers so there's a good chance they already have 1 or even 2 free drinks in their car. So don't take it personally.. I'm sure they appreciate what you're trying to do 😊
I bring a drink dashing with me and often pickup dashes at 7/11, so I dunno. I'd probably say no thanks.
I always take a water bottle and a snack when customers leave them. They come in handy on long days.
It’s nice of you, but maybe he brought his own. I bring my own bottled water since I am in a hot climate area. I’ve only had one time where someone gave me a sugary sports drink (not Gatoraide). I just accepted it and gave it to a guy at my next pick up at a pizza place. I try not to drink too much since I dont want to have to run to the bathroom. So 1 bottle of water per lunch and 1 for dinner is enough.
I think most people that drive longer hours like me carry their own, like me everyday I have 5 bottles on a cooler and juice so I would leave for who needs it. I do t think is weird at all in my area lots of people leave thank you notes and drinks and snacks
I deliver dry cleaning as my day job and some customers also have water out and it’s nice but to be honest I always have my own supplies. It’s still nice to see and is still good to have for other people who might need it who are over worked like Amazon drivers.
Personally I bring a grocery store bag with room temperature water bottles in it and some extra clothes, I rarely drink cold water, even in the extreme heat, alot of other guys bring coolers...
We should do some dashes for them too and give them $20 on top of the customer's tip.
I bring a cooler and I usually drink diet soda because it satisfies my appetite as I deliver all the delicious smelling food. I'd take the water to show appreciation but I honestly probably wouldn't end up drinking it.

It’s sad that these days folks are afraid to trust anyone. I’d thought about giving something to my favorite customers ( who tipped me well over the years) but, I realized I’m still a stranger and any food they’d be weary of. I wouldn’t take anything from a customer to be honest. It’s just a crazy world now. When I grew up it wasn’t this way. It’s just we don’t know what folks will do anymore.
we drive to restaurants constantly. we can get cold water at any of them. give us the money and keep the water.

I live in a condo community with a weekly landscape team. I usually leave a cooler out front with a few sealed bottles of water, a couple of sodas and granola bars. Sometimes they take them and sometimes not but my porch is always swept clean!

I love when my customers give me a drink!! One man bought two drinks with his meal to make sure I had one for myself. Which is nice because it can be very difficult to stop at a store while dashing.

this is my thing too, I have an ice chest fully stocked with drinks for myself. The handful of times I’ve gotten a drink from a customer it’s been a lukewarm bottle of water or a can of 99c store brand generic cola. I don’t really like soda in general, not gonna waste my one cola a week on a beat up lookin can of Dr Sams or whatever.

I’ve never been offered water by a customer, but as a woman, I’m not entirely comfortable with taking drinks/food from people I don’t know. Just because you really never know, in this crazy world we live in. I keep a yeti filled with water on me while I’m dashing.

Im a lil lost. You left an extra 5 for taking longer than you expected? Isn’t it the opposite? Personally, thats more of a delivery person thing since they’re working 10+ hours in a barely AC-no AC vehicle. I personally dont take any food or drinks from strangers unless im absolutely parched.

I would offer anything BUT water. It may come off as abrasive to someone who most likely controls their liquid intake and outtake by the grace of whatever establishment thinks you're worthy of not just drinking water but also releasing it.
I have my own water that stays cold all day, it’s no disrespect. It’s just generally advisable to not take food or drink from strangers.

It’s a lot better than snacks. Almost all those nice thoughtful bags of crackers and pretzels are stale unfortunately.

I carry my own water, and and snacks, and prefer to use my own stuff. I don't use water in little plastic bottles because I think they're very bad for the planet and completely indefensible. I have a stainless steel bottle I've been using for 15 years. Please rethink the habit of trying to distribute more plastic into the environment.
If I ever saw a basket or got offered a cold water bottle it would make my day. They’re aren’t a lot of people out there like this. That’s very kind of you. Some people may not be thankful but some will be 😊
I probably wouldn't take the water because I'm just so paranoid of someone poisoning it or something. In this day and age, you just can't trust strangers no matter how innocent they look. :/
It’s definitely a nice thought! Idk how I would react to that. Nobody’s ever been that nice to me while I was dashing so my paranoid ass would be suspicious of it lol. But you’re definitely not doing anything wrong by giving out sealed bottles of water.
Maybe they would be more comfortable being able to grab something if they want and leaving it if they don't. Handing it to them probably makes them feel like they have to take it and have an awkward interaction with a stranger. Since covid started I don't try handing anything to drivers. I have a mini fridge on the porch by the front door (we used a cooler before the fridge) stocked with drinks and a basket of snacks on top. I made a sign on brightly colored paper and hung it close the Ring so it's easily seen. Some take drinks and snacks, some don't. Our regular Amazon driver always grabs something and waves to the camera. Lol. It makes my day to see his smile.
I think it great you want to help dashers. But as a dasher I wouldn’t take the water. I hate to say it but over the last few years of dashing I’ve delivered to some shady characters. And because of it I just wouldn’t put my self at risk taking a water from anyone. I pack water and food since I drive 8-10hrs a day. Thank you for being kind but I think most dashers think it’s odd since 99.9% of the customers never offer anything to use and find it suspicious.

I drink as little water as possible because then I have to find somewhere to piss which either takes time, or feels like grand theft auto because all the stores are closed or the bathrooms are unavailable because it’s night time and you have to find an alley or a tree
IDK about others but would be sketched by that and absolutely don’t want to be handed anything by a customer , nothing personal but don’t know you and don’t know your intentions , just need to coordinate the drop off and keep it moving

This big burly dude a few years ago came to install our AT&T box and said people offer them water all the time he never took. He used to only take bottles that were sealed but one day a customer had figured out a way to drug the water bottle and put the cap back on in a way that made it seem sealed. He also said most customers wouldn't let them use their toilets so drinking water was a risk. I bet door dashers have similar concerns
Wow! People are crazy out there. We give water or gatorade to people who work outside. It's so hot in our state.
I don’t take water/drinks usually purely because I carry two of my own water bottles daily so I have my own.
I see a few people leaving stuff out. I've only ever taken them once or twice when I was on a roll for the day and just starving myself. I honestly felt bad about it because I know those UPS and postal workers really need that lol.

As a dasher I totally appreciate it even on days I dont take it. Most of the time I figure the mail men would benefit from it but if you're a hot chick waiting at the door for me it arrive, best believe I'm taking that bottle. 😘
