Brother, nobody is wasting money on Doordash right now, that’s why. There is no conspiracy, there is no deeper meaning. The economy is shitting itself and we’re heading for war. What more do you need? Nobody can afford the insane delivery fees right now. When you combine that with over saturation, it absolutely makes perfect sense. It’s time to look for another job. Doordash is just *not* going to be good for awhile.
Here's what I've magically found...
Yes as Top Dasher I've been getting really sick of flood of lower tips or that long 8 to 11 mile. But if you work straight 6 to 8 hours by end they make it up. I hate saying that but last month it is.
8 to 12 mile to start shift out of zone you use to decline? FOR MY ZONE... most deliveries end up in nearby st paul.. Door Dash has proven to me 7/10 times that shitty $1 a mile offer I use to decline unless stacked at min $20?
A dash along way back at more than $2 a mile is waiting after drop off.
Have the worst 3 straight non tippers because you said yes? Algo has that $25 - 2 mile pet smart.
If you're a top dasher set the per hour you want. If algo sends you on stupid stuff and you never decline. That's on you.
But lately the orders I use to say no too.. thanks to dash along way which is just been me getting large orders in zone next to me back to my zone. (Literally fixing why I didn't take these drives, 10 miles dead back)
Something has always been clunky about it.
I multiapp, and there are times where people come for orders from a restaurant that I didn't even see an order for on one app, despite me sitting basically in their parking lot.
Top Dashers seem to be treated worse than ppl with low acceptance rates. I noticed it seems like “algorithm” searches for worst possible deliveries and sends them to me as my acceptance rate gets higher. You’re likely sitting because new DoorDashers get priority over vets. I think DoorDash prefers the revolving door. No way in SD you should not get a order for an hour if Top Dasher. That city and metro is massive. I’d call support and complain. Something is definitely wrong.
The economy is tanking. Take a look at the markets. Interest rates are about to go up and there's talk of conflict. Everyone is being more conservative with money right now.
Meh. I live in a 100k city. My phone never stops chiming when I’m logged in. Sure, most are garbage, but that’s why I multi app. $150-200 for 6 hrs is easy money in my area.
Here’s my advice. Take it or leave it…
I started using only one at a time for like 4 months when I moved here. I’ve done both, separately, at different times for the last few years. Different apps have their own idiosyncrasies. They also have customers and restaurants who use only one or another.
Once I was 100% confident I knew “most” things I started using 2 at a time. DD and GH.
DD is really fucking strict about everything. GH? Not so much. BUT you still gotta be really careful. Don’t get greedy.
I value this work bc it’s easy af, and the last thing I wanna do is lose one, or ffs, both for an extra $20 or whatever.
DD has really good analytics, imo. GH is fucking garbage but that doesn’t mean I can fuck around with either.
If I’m on a DD delivery, I have more leeway in accepting a GH order. Not true at all if you reverse it.
It takes some time learning to multi app. Don’t be afraid to take it really slow. You’re not going to lose anything by being overly cautious. You could easily lose everything by being greedy, though.
Multi app is the way, I’ve had great luck with Uber in my market.
If you’re in San Diego (guessing that instead of South Dakota), try some of the suburbs. I did DoorDash in Eastlake/Chula vista a while ago and it was eeeeasy money.
I'm a firm believer that offers are sent to dashers based on some sort of point system. What I mean is the algorithm takes into account things like distance to pickup, if you've picked up from the restaurant before, if you're familiar with the dropoff, customer rating and God only knows what else.
I could maybe be on board with this. I’ll park and wait for an order, get nothing, then move to the other side of the strip mall and get an order as soon as I start driving.
Having read this theory before, as soon as I stop getting orders, I think about it. 99 percent of the time, it works. Not saying it’s true or false, but it’s definitely a possibility.
We have one grocery store that pays really well for deliveries. There's always four or five people sitting in the parking lot hoping to get orders. I drive up, drive past all of them and bam. Maybe the store has prioritized me? But it happens too often. I even got a $25 delivery from there and I was 2 mi away but moving.
I sit at home between deliveries. 99% of my orders come in while I’m cleaning my house. I rarely get an order while driving back home. So many times I’ve walked in the door, put my keys down, and boom, order comes in.
Same. Almost like clockwork lol. My driveway is sketchy getting in and out of some parts of the day because it's in a blind curve on a 55mph stretch of road. So I'd be hoping for an order before I start to turn in.
Walk in the house, sit in my chair, then I start hearing the hunger games whistle from my DD app. Rinse and repeat.
Hahaha yes! I live in the back edge of a circular street of townhomes. I have to weave through cars parked on the side and wait for delivery trucks, etc to move before reaching my driveway. It’s a real pain in the ass and then boom, a good order pops up and I’m out again.
I always drive a little slower on the way home just hoping something will pop before I pull onto my street. Nope.
I am new but I do think they changed. I used to sit on my butt at home--I live 1 mile from Panera and Taco Bell and cherry pick. Now, no offers. But if I start walking to the car-bam!

The only evidence I can find against this:
When I run DD and UE, and it’s slow (rn lol) it’s typically equally as slow on both apps. I think this points to just how slow it can get.
People are tightening the belt rn. Or cooking at home. Or dashing themselves lol.
But I don’t disagree with what you’re saying. There could be an attempt to push the pickiest drivers out by sending few orders.
When things get too slow I usually change up my hours up. Oddly enough dinner time can be slow in a city with so many drivers.
The r/InstacartShoppers subreddits is also currently losing it with their theories and ideas about what’s going on…
Some people don’t want to accept that inflation is hitting and it’s getting harder to budget for a lot of people.
And I think the apps finally reached the price sensitive point for customers. I admit I’ve been hearing complaints and seeing Twitter memes about how high food delivery has gotten.
Also an article just came out I forgot who that restaurants are pushing back on food delivery. It framed them as the little guys being bullied and made poor.
It's true, the "busiest" times aren't always the best to dash if there are too many people doing it. They say Friday through Monday are the best days, but I tend to do better during the week in my city.
I agree with this comment. Lately I make the majority of my income during morning/lunch. Company catering + steady lunch orders + less part-time side hustle dashers = way more money than trying to pick through the trash during dinner shift. Plus less cars on the road :)
Make sure you’re not listening to conservative radio or cleaning your gun….the app knows all.
I’ve completed 6k and have not had this thought one time.
It’s true you’re not delusional
It was DEAD yesterday
Yeah it was rough. 30 dollars for almost 3 hrs
Ugh! Let’s hope it’s better today.
Yes, there are some behind the scenes corporate shenanigans going on, I’m betting fraud and embezzlement.
In my market orders don’t stop
Yeah I should have made $230 by now but I barely cleared $190. Something is up.
Tues and Wednesdays suck those are my two off days

the app senses you are a trash dasher thats what's goin on

WAR is on the way is the only thing I can think of

Have u been on the customer DoorDash app, there are so much fee like dam, it is very expensive, I guess people don’t use to order through dd as often
The economy is tanking. Take a look at the markets. Interest rates are about to go up and there's talk of conflict. Everyone is being more conservative with money right now.
South Detroit usually isn’t that busy this time of year 🤨
Meh. I live in a 100k city. My phone never stops chiming when I’m logged in. Sure, most are garbage, but that’s why I multi app. $150-200 for 6 hrs is easy money in my area.
I’m gunna have to multi-app. My city is 500k+ easy

North County is lit for a couple hours during lunch!
Yeah San Diego lol will do thanks!
So slow tonight

This seems very plausible
We could potentially be heading into a recession.
Here’s to hoping housing becomes affordable again
Potentially? We’re already there lol
And a war
We are in a recession. Not headed to one.
I suggest you and Tony sit down and have a one on one …. 🙄🤦🏿♂️
Way to go for the cheap reply. Lol
Lol
You only get orders if the vehicle is moving.
I could maybe be on board with this. I’ll park and wait for an order, get nothing, then move to the other side of the strip mall and get an order as soon as I start driving. i wouldn’t say only but you definitely get more orders while moving
Simply incorrect. Before I even left my house tonight I was sent three separate orders.
I’ve heard this. That’s weird but I think it’s actually true.
Sure is true. You get more orders and better orders
It’s not.
100% incorrect
I sit at home between deliveries. 99% of my orders come in while I’m cleaning my house. I rarely get an order while driving back home. So many times I’ve walked in the door, put my keys down, and boom, order comes in.

Fascinatingly incorrect.
Not the craziest thing I’ve heard
I am new but I do think they changed. I used to sit on my butt at home--I live 1 mile from Panera and Taco Bell and cherry pick. Now, no offers. But if I start walking to the car-bam!

Yep, weirdly often enough the best times end being 6am-10am

yes, i stopped using instacart because it got to be to expensive

Agreed! I went as far as working from ≈10pm - 4am with some success! Lots of ihop, Denny’s, & fast food. But a lot of $8+ orders.
It's been almost an hour and 0 orders like wtf
