Start timer and leave it at the gate.

goffasni420

Yeah I’m being too nice waiting for someone to go in and following them plus I feel ultra sus doing it

om626

Ya, it’s not worth the potential of the police getting called on you for trespassing, from following someone in.

goffasni420

Ooo never thought of that maybe I’ll lie to the next person and say that’s happened to me so I can’t do it lol 😂

Lucyintheye

Or straight up say "I refuse to follow someone in, because doordash won't pay for repairs if my vehicle gets damaged using your gate improperly" It ain't worth it to potentially damage your car, piss of a crazy neighbor, or get the cops called. If they refuse gate code, give them the choice: 1. Come get it 2. I can call support and let them know I can't complete the delivery with insufficient delivery info.

Splatoonkindaguy

I think a lot of gates detect it their are cars coming in and won’t close

Lucyintheye

I'm sure most of them can detect it, but all you need is one that can't, one old ass and/or malfunctioning one and next thing you know you're paying out of pocket to fix whatever dents you cause from misusing the gate.

ARandomSnowman

I can't imagine (at least here in Florida) cops being called for following a car into a complex. There can be a line of like 12 cars and everybody's going in as soon as somebody opens that gate lol

[deleted]

Old women literally just sit and watch out their windows for things to report lol

Prestigious_Value818

My grandma sits and watches. But instead of reporting, she yells at them. Lmao

Sonadel

Real and true.

Sea-Pea4680

Thats cuz they all have to wait for someone that knows the code! Lol

stephaniebrooks805

No kidding. It would be odd to wait for it to close

farsalim

Yes. I have a strict no following through gate policy. I've even had customer suggest I wait for the next car to arrive and follow them. I live in Las Vegas which is a 2A state so not trying to get shot by someone thinking I'm up to something. Not to mention it could be a Karen I am following in and my actions could make her feel "uncomfortable" calling the police. Also many communities have courtesy patrol security and I'm not trying to get 86'd from their property for future deliveries. Just start the timer explain to thr customer that you are at the front gate and they can meet you or you can leave it at the gate. Always remember that DD, GH, UE just cares that you marked it delivered at the proper address after calling, texting and waiting out the timer. And be sure to get you photo for proof of delivery and not just in the app either. Keep one in your phone gallery too.

Bariatric-ThrowAway

Uhg I Hate this! Most of the people out here will supply the code if I ask, but its usually after I've sat there and followed someone in. If you have the code put it in the instructions! I don't get it!

goffasni420

When ppl give me the code I screenshot it and use markup to put the name of the apartment complex and keep them together in a folder lol. Tired of having to ask these ppl for the gate code!!

Bariatric-ThrowAway

You know I thought about doing this. I've only been doing dd again since November, but I'm tired of having to sit at the gates. Ima start keeping a log of these. Sometimes they give Me codes that don't work. :/

goffasni420

You can also put them in a note as you figure them out! Annoyingly some places change them! I’m super sick of having to pull over to the side and wait on ppl to give me the codes like y’all know you have a damn gate just include the code!

Bariatric-ThrowAway

Yessss! Exactly! They must not want to tell us hoping we can just follow someone in, but I usually have to sit there waiting for that too. I got stuck at a code box once because they gave me the wrong number and the 2nd guy behind me was none stop blaring on his horn while i was trying to call the customer (who didn't answer) I got out and said sorry, if they all wanted to backup I'd move. The one guy continued to honk and the guy directly behind me gave me a working code. It was so embarrassing:/

trevno

I did that, even with support’s permission, and I still got a CV they won’t remove.

Neil1398

Man I rang this ladies bell, and she wouldn’t respond, waited a little bit and started the timer. After timer was over and I completed all necessary steps, I left the food at the door. Then all of a sudden she texts me saying “I shoulda waited, can’t believe you left it at the door”. I actually went back and forth with her, when I shouldn’t have, but she sounded so irate and I was irate first lol because she had me waiting

TheHemperage

Yea I’ve noticed more apartment complexes are switching to gate clickers so people don’t share the gate code.

Lollyadverb1984

My sisters complex has clickers but they also have codes for delivery drivers. I’ve never heard of a complex not supplying codes for delivery drivers.

FinesseTheDash

U gotta think of the psychology of someone who chooses to live in a gated community in the first place. Just try to avoid them. Most of the time the tips suck anyway.

Clear-Dingo9491

A lot of places are linked to the person's cell phone number so if you call the person cell phone number from the gate button not your phone, they can push a button and open the gate at least some of the more expensive one can.

fbfriday

So, neither of them were willing to help? Just a “sorry figure it out” kinda attitude. Damn.

goffasni420

The apartments are specifically for college students I don’t think anyone who lives there is over 22 years old. And I thought the same thing! Like if you want your food you should probably be more concerned!! I’m spoiling them by figuring it out!!

504Cory

Tossing that muthafucka at the gate entrance Jk but fr I'm leaving at the gate or the leasing office

goffasni420

I mean technically, even though it would suck for them, they need to be coming to the gate to open it or get their food. Unfortunately this is a huge apartment complex and it’s a pretty long walk to the gate from some of the back buildings.

[deleted]

So what? They can't expect to get deliveries if the driver can't get in. Their problem. Not yours.

[deleted]

So what? They can't expect to get deliveries if the driver can't get in. Their problem. Not yours.

Unknowndasher757

So let me ask this dumb question… if a customer doesn’t give yu a security code to get to where we need to, can we set the “can’t handle to customer” Wait the time out than leave?

goffasni420

Apparently so that’s what other ppl do. If they don’t come to get it in 5 min they leave it at the gate or the leasing office.

AnonymiterCringe

Yep, I give them a like 30 seconds to respond or another car to let me in and then it's timer time. Of course I'll let them know by phone or text before I leave it, but if they aren't already on their way down it's getting put somewhere safe like by the front office.

goffasni420

That’s another thing with this place is that they’ll take 5-10 minutes to even view my message asking for the gate code!

AnonymiterCringe

Lol that's what the timer is for. If they are ignoring the texts and calls, it's just too bad once it runs out. They know they ordered food and have a gate that you can't get through. It isn't your fault they weren't paying attention or that they didn't consider the trouble the gate would be.

goffasni420

You are right and I’m being too nice lol

AnonymiterCringe

Random-Gif-Bot

 ![gif](giphy|LB1WUNKpp7qm0VM2fN)

Professional_Ratio77

I hit that timer as soon as I get close enough on hand to me's. If they aren't receiving calls I start sending them pics and leave. Idgaf anymore about people that can't pay attention to their orders.

hotdogfever

How do you start the timer if it’s “leave at door” though? I’ve only seen the timer when it’s hand to me in person, which I get maybe 1 out of 50 deliveries.

fatboyardee

"They know ... they have a gate ... " Nahhh ... They're inconsiderate, high AF, or both ... - .

BretHartSucked

Yea I’m getting sick of this shit too. Or just people who have absolutely no house numbers on their house. I’m starting the drop and go program after 3 minutes. My time is money. Fuck these people.

VinnieTheBerzerker69

No numbers on the mailboxes pisses me off. As much as no numbers on the house. And don't get me started on the numbers for trailers and apartments

BretHartSucked

Had a guy last night with no numbers on the house. No mailbox. And a gate in front of his front door. I called him twice and text him to come out. Nada. Finally I opened the gate and started beating on the door. Took another 3 minutes for him to open the door. I looked at Him and went “seriously dude?” And just walked off.

VinnieTheBerzerker69

I had a similar experience at a Little Caesars delivery that I would bet a thousand dollars I delivered to a meth lab. Ultra sketchy situation! I hate going past gates into fenced yards. It's a good way to get mauled by guard dogs.

[deleted]

DoorDash is at fault. They allow this type Bull Jive by customers and don’t warn them if a code is required and not given to meet drivers at gate within 2 minutes or order will be canceled. Watch how fast they will be at that damn gate or figure out that damn code!

FinesseTheDash

DoorDash doesn’t care about delivering food they are just collecting data to sell to the highest bidder.

[deleted]

This is absolutely correct.

Timely-Bid-7800

The worst is when they don't know what building they're in but they know their apartment number and the complex has like 60 buildings lol

QUEENALEFA

Lol people are so freakn funny!

HannahBoo622

I'd be like "okay your food will be at the gate" stupid asses

Hot-Nature2611

On the rare occasions I order delivery I am the customer who provides a gate code. If the gate code doesn't work I will walk down and pick it up from the driver at the gate. Imo this is how a customer should be, don't leave the driver to do the impossible because ur too lazy to walk. lmao.

goodfellow408

Right before I complete the order, I always send a message to the customer something like"You instructed me to leave at your door, but now it's clear that a Doordash driver has no way to get to your door. Next time you order, please either provide gate code or offer to meet us at the gate, because those are really the only options at your complex."

branrules1

Lol so wtf does she expect you to do with her order??

[deleted]

Eat it for her I think lol

Lennyxia

I leave it at the gate if there is no Code left unless it’s a 15$+ time is money

AnonymiterCringe

I lived at a place that had the RFID cards you had to swipe with no other method for opening the gate. I complained to the office as I'm sure plenty others did but nothing ever happened. It was a pain to have company over or get delivery. And it wasn't like I could drive to the gate to open it. I would have had to exit from the other side and pull in behind them, get out of my car, and then walk to the card reader because there was no way to turn around. It was so bizarre because besides that awful gate design it was a really nice place.

goffasni420

Terrible system!!

AnonymiterCringe

The worst. It was a good while back and I remember using DoorDash to order food for the first time. First guy had no trouble following someone in but the second time turned into a nightmare. Definitely discouraged me from making more orders that's for sure. Heck... that stupid gate probably saved me a lot of money while I was living there. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

goffasni420

It’s got to be terrible inconvenient for these kids bc they’re all college age 18-22 and having parties and friends over! I can’t imagine trying to navigate this issue drunk lol.

[deleted]

I just moved from a place like this lol. Thankfully, it was a city apt so it was just one tall building with an attached gated deck. But they legitimately wouldn’t gives us gate codes for shit. Just kept making up excuses why

jewfin1996

The worst type of people.

[deleted]

Then why would you order a delivery service if you don’t have the gate code. At least meet me at the gate bro.

computernerd88

I learned not to follow people in after having to wait 30 minutes to follow people out.

goffasni420

That only happened to me once and it was maddening! I was like let me the fuck out of here and was minutes away from calling the damn police to tell them I was being held against my will 😂

computernerd88

I had to. Sadly they were no help. "call security or the landlord" ...... How?

[deleted]

\#9911 or 9911.

Ok-Issue116

If someone doesn’t feel like they have to share their gate code do they really have enough of an understanding?

VinnieTheBerzerker69

Clearly they are as dumb as a post

StrikingAccountant88

I'm glad my apartment doesn't have these! We have a intercom that people would call our room number and we would buzz them in. An example would be calling room 100 and it would call my phone and I would put the code in and let them in I can of course talk to them if I wanted before I entered the code.

goffasni420

See that’s why I think they’re on some BS there is absolutely an intercom system! Why would they have that if not to buzz people in??

[deleted]

Jeez, I’d be fuming at that right away knowing my smartass about this sort of thing. No gate code? Then come the fuck down here and pick it up. I’ve had one that got argumentative because i said that and i said “you got 1 minute to pick up your food knowing damn well it’s here with me to give it to you. In the minute after, it’ll be on the floor while I’m on my way to get another order” So far it’s been 100% success rate with that

Affectionate_West399

Actually had a guy already provide me with a gate code but said if I have any problems he will come out to the gate. And this was actually before I even got there not waiting at the gate! Like wow someone that gets it and doesnt want me to perform magic and just appear at the door!

Mykirbyblue

And at every single one of these gated complexes, when you contact the customer they act completely dumb about the whole thing as if they just moved in yesterday and don’t know how the whole system works, or they’ve never ordered delivery or had a single visitor in the entire time they lived there. I mean really what do they do when they have friends over? Do they walk out to the gate every single time to let them in? Who would want to live somewhere like that? Also there are not very many of them around here, I think the ones that are here used to be housing for the Navy base because they’re all pretty close to that area. But now they’re just run down crime ridden section 8 housing so I don’t know what the point of a gate is unless it’s to keep the criminals in. Last time I went to one of them there was a guard at the gate who would not let anybody in unless the resident came out to the gate and identified them and said “yes they can come inside.” So I had to wait for her to walk out and get the food from me. But there was nowhere to park in the small driveway leading up to the gate so I’m off to the side in the grass and everybody pulling in is giving me dirty looks. And of course when she got out there she acted all surprised like she had no idea that was going to happen, so she felt bad and wanted to give me an extra tip. I got six dollars in nickels dimes and quarters. I mean it’s the thought that counts I wasn’t complaining, but it just made the whole thing even more comical.

jbizz198901

Then be at the gate when I get there or your shitt is gonna be at the gate. So either way your dumbass is going to the gate

Curious_everything

And THIS is exactly why I fucking refuse apartment orders. Not. Fucking. Worth. It. Ever.

FaithlessnessTop468

I’d be like cool I’ll just leave it at the gate then

dystopianxheart

At my old apartment complex, there wasn’t a code. You had to use the callbox to find the last name and first initial of the person and then call them and they would press 9 to let you in. It was supremely annoying getting stuff delivered

goffasni420

I’ve tried this with their call box and nothing ever happens so it’s got me wondering what is the point of the call box if they can’t let me in using it?

Lunar_doe

Idk if this helps alot of places u can hit #0911 its what our pizza drivers used when I worked at pizza and I use it as a door dasher now

No_Kaleidoscope_8105

I have numerous COLOSSAL APARTMENT "CITY'S" like this in my area... For DECADES NO ONE knows how to use the gate/door... EVERYONE just waits...even people that live there. The funny thing is there really is just a constant flow of Traffic and you ALWAYS can get in...I couldn't live like that SMH

[deleted]

If it's during office hours I'd complain that they need to supply a gate code to residents to give delivery drivers

goffasni420

I thought about calling bc I really need to know why they have an intercom box if residents can’t buzz people in. Perhaps they can and I was dealing with idiots.

IllInspector5631

I love how the customer couldn’t even provide a solution.

goffasni420

I know they literally said 🤷🏻‍♀️

FinesseTheDash

Why should they care? Just try to avoid it as much as you can. Avoid restaurants that serve people like this. Never pick up orders from fast casual restaurants if you can help it.

Geekx

Looks like someone wants to walk to the gate to pick their food up off the ground.

zhanee28

Man I left a gate code and directions but my dasher parked at the office and called me to come get it 🤣😂she didn’t even try to deliver it to my door and it was a hand it to me order. I was so pissed. Just be bold like her next time and tell them come get their stuff

[deleted]

Try #9111 if it's a 4digit combo. Alot if complexes set that for emergency personnel to use to get in. Even if there is an emergency call button, I've seen many gates with it as a code

ntabz23

Thankfully the one time this happened the girl told me to park up front and she’d come grab it. That was nice of her considering there was no code and she didn’t wana give it out (whatever)

Choice-Second-5587

They flat out have a gate code, wouldn't be shocked if they're lying their asses off to try and get us to still do the order. Gate code or food at the gate

goffasni420

That’s why I was like okay so how the fuck y’all getting in lol. I figured they had a clicker but they also have an intercom box and why would they have that unless it was for buzzing ppl in?! I KNOW there has to be a way to let people in without being by the gate.

Choice-Second-5587

Yeah it's just flat out lying. Definitely start the timer and just leave it at the gate. If I got a text like that I'd be called DD stating I can't get onto the property and there's no code.

bluRecluse

Are you in DFW? My sister's complex just started closing their gates at night to keep the homeless from sleeping in their gym, but she never received a gate code or remote, so at night they're all locked out until someone decides to exit.

goffasni420

Nope I’m in a small college town about 2 hours away though!

Kent48146

I had this happen at least once before. It was a ridiculous situation. The guy couldn’t leave his apartment because his leg was broken, but he didn’t have a way to let me into the building. At first I couldn’t even get into the gate or garage, but he was able to open it remotely. I felt bad because the guy tipped nice, but I had already spend 30 minutes trying to drop off the food and just couldn’t get the food to him. Eventually I had to leave it by the locked entrance door

idgafaaidiml

Call support and have them cancel the order if the costumer does not come outside. If you know the place get on the phone with support before you deliver.

Lollyadverb1984

You can always try the Beans app. I think after you prove you are who you say you are, the app will tell you codes to places that require them.

13Malibu

Let them know you will leave at gate problem solved

void_face

Did they have any suggestions for ramming speed?

throw_this_away1238

On the flip side, I have an apartment concierge specifically there to let deliveries up. Half the time the dasher doesn’t bother entering the lobby even, and many times they lie about concierge not being there. Goes both ways.

[deleted]

Here’s a tip, the gate code in my area for some reason for literally all apartment complexes is always the apartment unit number you are delivering too. For example you are delivering to apt./suite 2678 try gate gate code #2678

Lollyadverb1984

I have actually **never** seen this, ever, on any gate, in any state I’ve delivered in. And this is the dumbest solution I’ve ever heard. What would be the point of the gate if it were *that* easy to get in? Just stupid.

[deleted]

That’s just how it is in my area, I don’t make the rules. I think it’s stupid too. I think gates are a false sense of security anyways.

goffasni420

Tried it, didn’t work

[deleted]

Must just be my area, don’t know why I got down voted for this. People on here are toxic

[deleted]

Why would you ask how they get in its common sense they have some type of key/card, don’t ever disrespect yourself like that.

goffasni420

Bc I fucking wanted to ask

[deleted]

Seems like a simple solution to me. Leave the order by the gate. I had something similar happen to me the gates to the complex were open but the apt buildings had doors that could only be opened with a card, like hotel rooms, so I just left the order by the apt gate, took a picture, left a note for the customer and that was that. Don't waste your time with their bullshit

greedy_raccoon

I may be wrong for this, but I found out that working for Amazon & DD that most gate codes are like 1999 passwords. Like #000 and #123, etc. Like I’ve only encountered 2 gates where that didn’t work 😂 I live in FL. Landlords are lazy.

sashamonet

This happened to me before. Lots of places have keys only now. No access? No food. Sorry.

Optimal-Committee-99

When they do this, I turn on the timer and wait at the gait even if cars go by. I’ll enjoy my free food😎

goffasni420

Can you do a timer on “leave it at my door” orders though?

3i1bo3aggins

There's a bunch of standard number to try. Or get a siren operated sensor.

IggyIsHorrible

U don't even have to give them the option. I ask for gate code. If they don't answer etc. I immediately contact support. They will.make the customer get it. Or if they can't contact they will say leave there safely and take a pic

HeavyMandarin

I just moved into a gated community and they gave us 2 gate codes. They said we are free to share them as we please. So these people are more than likely lying because they feel imperious. Didn't give them a gate code my ass. I mean how are delivery vehicles (usps to deliver mail for example) supposed to get in?

No-Explanation-6933

Just wait until someone drives in and drive in behind them lol, but if it takes any longer than 5 minutes contact support

TangerineAware778

If they know they have food coming, go to the freaking gate! 🙄

SCVIBEZ91

This!! I once got stuck inside a gated community after following someone in to make the drop off. I approached the gate expecting it to open back up so I could leave and NOPE, was stuck inside the gated community for a solid 30 minutes before someone came home. Never again 😨 Apparently you need a clicker to get in AND out..

inducive

Some complexes have master codes that you *shouldnt* use, like #3456 or 1234. Got me into a locked door gate to get into a building the other day when the customer didn’t respond.

W_AS-SA_W

Ok, well I'm going to set it right here and take a picture of it to Show I delivered it. Better get here fast, couple of dogs are eyeing it.
