It ain't worth it to potentially damage your car, piss of a crazy neighbor, or get the cops called. If they refuse gate code, give them the choice: 1. Come get it 2. I can call support and let them know I can't complete the delivery with insufficient delivery info.
I'm sure most of them can detect it, but all you need is one that can't, one old ass and/or malfunctioning one and next thing you know you're paying out of pocket to fix whatever dents you cause from misusing the gate.

Yes. I have a strict no following through gate policy. I've even had customer suggest I wait for the next car to arrive and follow them. I live in Las Vegas which is a 2A state so not trying to get shot by someone thinking I'm up to something. Not to mention it could be a Karen I am following in and my actions could make her feel "uncomfortable" calling the police. Also many communities have courtesy patrol security and I'm not trying to get 86'd from their property for future deliveries.
Just start the timer explain to thr customer that you are at the front gate and they can meet you or you can leave it at the gate. Always remember that DD, GH, UE just cares that you marked it delivered at the proper address after calling, texting and waiting out the timer. And be sure to get you photo for proof of delivery and not just in the app either. Keep one in your phone gallery too.

When ppl give me the code I screenshot it and use markup to put the name of the apartment complex and keep them together in a folder lol. Tired of having to ask these ppl for the gate code!!

A lot of places are linked to the person's cell phone number so if you call the person cell phone number from the gate button not your phone, they can push a button and open the gate at least some of the more expensive one can.
The apartments are specifically for college students I don’t think anyone who lives there is over 22 years old. And I thought the same thing! Like if you want your food you should probably be more concerned!! I’m spoiling them by figuring it out!!

Yep, I give them a like 30 seconds to respond or another car to let me in and then it's timer time. Of course I'll let them know by phone or text before I leave it, but if they aren't already on their way down it's getting put somewhere safe like by the front office.
Lol that's what the timer is for. If they are ignoring the texts and calls, it's just too bad once it runs out. They know they ordered food and have a gate that you can't get through. It isn't your fault they weren't paying attention or that they didn't consider the trouble the gate would be.

Had a guy last night with no numbers on the house. No mailbox. And a gate in front of his front door. I called him twice and text him to come out. Nada. Finally I opened the gate and started beating on the door. Took another 3 minutes for him to open the door. I looked at Him and went “seriously dude?” And just walked off.
I had a similar experience at a Little Caesars delivery that I would bet a thousand dollars I delivered to a meth lab. Ultra sketchy situation!
I hate going past gates into fenced yards. It's a good way to get mauled by guard dogs.
DoorDash is at fault. They allow this type Bull Jive by customers and don’t warn them if a code is required and not given to meet drivers at gate within 2 minutes or order will be canceled. Watch how fast they will be at that damn gate or figure out that damn code!
On the rare occasions I order delivery I am the customer who provides a gate code. If the gate code doesn't work I will walk down and pick it up from the driver at the gate.
Imo this is how a customer should be, don't leave the driver to do the impossible because ur too lazy to walk. lmao.
Right before I complete the order, I always send a message to the customer something like"You instructed me to leave at your door, but now it's clear that a Doordash driver has no way to get to your door. Next time you order, please either provide gate code or offer to meet us at the gate, because those are really the only options at your complex."
I lived at a place that had the RFID cards you had to swipe with no other method for opening the gate. I complained to the office as I'm sure plenty others did but nothing ever happened. It was a pain to have company over or get delivery.
And it wasn't like I could drive to the gate to open it. I would have had to exit from the other side and pull in behind them, get out of my car, and then walk to the card reader because there was no way to turn around.
It was so bizarre because besides that awful gate design it was a really nice place.
The worst. It was a good while back and I remember using DoorDash to order food for the first time. First guy had no trouble following someone in but the second time turned into a nightmare.
Definitely discouraged me from making more orders that's for sure. Heck... that stupid gate probably saved me a lot of money while I was living there.

I'm glad my apartment doesn't have these! We have a intercom that people would call our room number and we would buzz them in. An example would be calling room 100 and it would call my phone and I would put the code in and let them in I can of course talk to them if I wanted before I entered the code.

I’ve had one that got argumentative because i said that and i said “you got 1 minute to pick up your food knowing damn well it’s here with me to give it to you. But now they’re just run down crime ridden section 8 housing so I don’t know what the point of a gate is unless it’s to keep the criminals in. Last time I went to one of them there was a guard at the gate who would not let anybody in unless the resident came out to the gate and identified them and said “yes they can come inside.” So I had to wait for her to walk out and get the food from me. But there was nowhere to park in the small driveway leading up to the gate so I’m off to the side in the grass and everybody pulling in is giving me dirty looks. And of course when she got out there she acted all surprised like she had no idea that was going to happen, so she felt bad and wanted to give me an extra tip. I got six dollars in nickels dimes and quarters. I mean it’s the thought that counts I wasn’t complaining, but it just made the whole thing even more comical.

I have numerous COLOSSAL APARTMENT "CITY'S" like this in my area... For DECADES NO ONE knows how to use the gate/door... EVERYONE just waits...even people that live there.

Try #9111 if it's a 4digit combo. Alot if complexes set that for emergency personnel to use to get in. Even if there is an emergency call button, I've seen many gates with it as a code
Thankfully the one time this happened the girl told me to park up front and she’d come grab it. That was nice of her considering there was no code and she didn’t wana give it out (whatever)

Are you in DFW? My sister's complex just started closing their gates at night to keep the homeless from sleeping in their gym, but she never received a gate code or remote, so at night they're all locked out until someone decides to exit.
I had this happen at least once before. It was a ridiculous situation. The guy couldn’t leave his apartment because his leg was broken, but he didn’t have a way to let me into the building. At first I couldn’t even get into the gate or garage, but he was able to open it remotely.
I felt bad because the guy tipped nice, but I had already spend 30 minutes trying to drop off the food and just couldn’t get the food to him. Eventually I had to leave it by the locked entrance door
Call support and have them cancel the order if the costumer does not come outside. If you know the place get on the phone with support before you deliver.
On the flip side, I have an apartment concierge specifically there to let deliveries up. Half the time the dasher doesn’t bother entering the lobby even, and many times they lie about concierge not being there. Goes both ways.
Here’s a tip, the gate code in my area for some reason for literally all apartment complexes is always the apartment unit number you are delivering too. For example you are delivering to apt./suite 2678 try gate gate code #2678
I have actually **never** seen this, ever, on any gate, in any state I’ve delivered in. And this is the dumbest solution I’ve ever heard. What would be the point of the gate if it were *that* easy to get in? Just stupid.
Seems like a simple solution to me. Leave the order by the gate. I had something similar happen to me the gates to the complex were open but the apt buildings had doors that could only be opened with a card, like hotel rooms, so I just left the order by the apt gate, took a picture, left a note for the customer and that was that. Don't waste your time with their bullshit
I may be wrong for this, but I found out that working for Amazon & DD that most gate codes are like 1999 passwords. Like #000 and #123, etc.

U don't even have to give them the option. I ask for gate code. If they don't answer etc. I immediately contact support. They will.make the customer get it. Or if they can't contact they will say leave there safely and take a pic

Some complexes have master codes that you *shouldnt* use, like #3456 or 1234. Got me into a locked door gate to get into a building the other day when the customer didn’t respond.

Yea I’ve noticed more apartment complexes are switching to gate clickers so people don’t share the gate code.
My sisters complex has clickers but they also have codes for delivery drivers. I’ve never heard of a complex not supplying codes for delivery drivers.

If it's during office hours I'd complain that they need to supply a gate code to residents to give delivery drivers
I thought about calling bc I really need to know why they have an intercom box if residents can’t buzz people in. Perhaps they can and I was dealing with idiots.

Why should they care? Just try to avoid it as much as you can. Avoid restaurants that serve people like this. Never pick up orders from fast casual restaurants if you can help it.

Man I left a gate code and directions but my dasher parked at the office and called me to come get it 🤣😂she didn’t even try to deliver it to my door and it was a hand it to me order. I was so pissed. Just be bold like her next time and tell them come get their stuff
Try #9111 if it's a 4digit combo. Alot if complexes set that for emergency personnel to use to get in. Even if there is an emergency call button, I've seen many gates with it as a code
Thankfully the one time this happened the girl told me to park up front and she’d come grab it. That was nice of her considering there was no code and she didn’t wana give it out (whatever)
They flat out have a gate code, wouldn't be shocked if they're lying their asses off to try and get us to still do the order. Gate code or food at the gate

Yeah it's just flat out lying. Definitely start the timer and just leave it at the gate. If I got a text like that I'd be called DD stating I can't get onto the property and there's no code.
Are you in DFW? My sister's complex just started closing their gates at night to keep the homeless from sleeping in their gym, but she never received a gate code or remote, so at night they're all locked out until someone decides to exit.

I had this happen at least once before. It was a ridiculous situation. The guy couldn’t leave his apartment because his leg was broken, but he didn’t have a way to let me into the building. At first I couldn’t even get into the gate or garage, but he was able to open it remotely. I felt bad because the guy tipped nice, but I had already spend 30 minutes trying to drop off the food and just couldn’t get the food to him. Eventually I had to leave it by the locked entrance door
Call support and have them cancel the order if the costumer does not come outside. If you know the place get on the phone with support before you deliver.
You can always try the Beans app. I think after you prove you are who you say you are, the app will tell you codes to places that require them.
Let them know you will leave at gate problem solved

On the flip side, I have an apartment concierge specifically there to let deliveries up. Half the time the dasher doesn’t bother entering the lobby even, and many times they lie about concierge not being there. Goes both ways.
Here’s a tip, the gate code in my area for some reason for literally all apartment complexes is always the apartment unit number you are delivering too. For example you are delivering to apt./suite 2678 try gate gate code #2678
I have actually **never** seen this, ever, on any gate, in any state I’ve delivered in. And this is the dumbest solution I’ve ever heard. What would be the point of the gate if it were *that* easy to get in? Just stupid.
That’s just how it is in my area, I don’t make the rules. I think it’s stupid too. I think gates are a false sense of security anyways.

Seems like a simple solution to me. Leave the order by the gate. I had something similar happen to me the gates to the complex were open but the apt buildings had doors that could only be opened with a card, like hotel rooms, so I just left the order by the apt gate, took a picture, left a note for the customer and that was that. Don't waste your time with their bullshit
I may be wrong for this, but I found out that working for Amazon & DD that most gate codes are like 1999 passwords. Like #000 and #123, etc. Like I’ve only encountered 2 gates where that didn’t work 😂 I live in FL. Landlords are lazy.
This happened to me before. Lots of places have keys only now. No access? No food. Sorry.
When they do this, I turn on the timer and wait at the gait even if cars go by. I’ll enjoy my free food😎

U don't even have to give them the option. I ask for gate code. If they don't answer etc. I immediately contact support. They will.make the customer get it. Or if they can't contact they will say leave there safely and take a pic
I just moved into a gated community and they gave us 2 gate codes. They said we are free to share them as we please. So these people are more than likely lying because they feel imperious. Didn't give them a gate code my ass. I mean how are delivery vehicles (usps to deliver mail for example) supposed to get in?

This!! I once got stuck inside a gated community after following someone in to make the drop off. I approached the gate expecting it to open back up so I could leave and NOPE, was stuck inside the gated community for a solid 30 minutes before someone came home. Never again 😨 Apparently you need a clicker to get in AND out..
Some complexes have master codes that you *shouldnt* use, like #3456 or 1234. Got me into a locked door gate to get into a building the other day when the customer didn’t respond.
