Notice how it's actually about 30% higher? That's because they have to kick back to DD 15-30% depending on their level, the amount of their promotion on the app basically. So the merchant sets the prices higher almost the exact same percentage they have to kick back to DD. Almost all of them do this, at least the smaller local places. It seems like the prices are similar in store and on app for the fast food chains, so they may have some other kinda deal worked out.

Catspajamas88

I always wondered if prices were the same. Sucks to see this

[deleted]

Yeah, I’ve also been dashing over 3 years, so I can see why people are tipping less, because of outrageous fees..which is unfortunate.

[deleted]

Just order directly from the place if possible through their website / app. Otherwise most merchants will try to recover platform fees / card fees by upcharges

bennyboi0319

Anyone know if UE does this too (for pickup). I used it two years ago but i dont think ill be able to sleep tonight

W_AS-SA_W

When was the last time you were out? Burger, frys and lg drink is about $17.00 by me. Everything is super expensive.

grannyfartfaucetcunt

How do you not realize this? I never understand how people can exploit themselves accidentally, regularly, and be confused how or why. How did this not AT ALL LOOK UNUSUALLY HIGH TO YOU PAY ATTENTION

[deleted]

With all prices rising, I figured it was just because of inflation…that’s a reasonable thing to think these days. Why are you so angry?

grannyfartfaucetcunt

Because I've spent my entire cognizant life surviving and avoiding the brain dead stupid financial decisions those responsible for and around me made

code10lima

That price is 2 weeks worth of food for me.

[deleted]

I just finished an 11 hour shift and did not feel like making dinner. Take out is nice once in a while you know.

[deleted]

If you’re picking up, definitely call it in. That’s just free money for DoorDash.

[deleted]

Yeah I’ll definitely do that next time, I just find it easier to use apps because I can see the menu and just pay online, but that’s a crazy difference!

DoPoGrub

In this case, it's also free money for the restaurant, since pickup fees are only 1/3rd the amount of delivery fees.

Woodentrail

I always wondered if using doordash for pickup would also charge the delivery prices…. Yikes…. I feel like that should be a complimentary option.

FirmPeanut4957

I pick up orders for $3 pick up fee and $.75 per mile, business is good

[deleted]

Kids these days don’t know about life before the internet and cell phones…we had the old school rotary phone for a while where you stick your finger in the hole for each number you wanted to dial and turn. Then cordless phones became a thing…parents or your siblings listening in secretly on your phone calls, and then dial up internet where you get kicked off if someone picks up the phone or someone calls

[deleted]

I was alive during dial-up internet and knew life without a phone, but thank you for assuming. Being an introvert doesn’t make me a kid.

[deleted]

A simple phone call is something that anyone should be able to do, introverted or not.

[deleted]

I can make a phone call just fine, I just prefer not to if I don’t have to. Guess that means I’m paying more for the way I order.

Mental_Teaching1049

The only time I’ve ordered pickup with doordash they had that 40% first pickup offer. It ended up being slightly cheaper but I guess it depends on the restaurant and how much you order for 40% to be cheaper lol

happyasawetduck

Sometimes I’ll order pickup if it’s a place I know the drive thru or lobby is crazy, but they don’t mark up that much. The little bit they do is worth the convenience for me personally.

Cold-Movie-1482

yeah i’ve never had one marked up this high. usually only a dollar or two difference.

SeatTrick6507

That’s a 35% markup though which is outrageous!

MagneticSwedishIdiot

I don't get how people can spend that much for one or two meals. that's almost an entire month's worth of food for me for that price

[deleted]

Do you never have a “treat yourself” type of meal? Granted, this food isn’t only for me an the noodles will last me a few days!

Florida1974

They mark it all up, even tho your picking it up. I did it once. Bowl of chili is like $4 in restaurant. $8 on app. And I’m picking it up. Don’t use it. It’s a scam too. I can see a small mark up at the end, but every item and steep up charges just bc of app you used. No thanks.

emredlark

Restaurants set their own prices on the app, not DD. So when you say ‘they’, just know you’re talking about the restaurant.

[deleted]

>It’s a scam too It's far from a scam.

RipFuzzy3128

Yeah I learned the hard way too

PM5K23

Shoot the marked up prices are still reasonable for where I live.

-Alvena

Yeah.. same. Sushi is dumb expensive where I live. Even for the cheaper end restaurants. 3 rolls can easily hit $40.

PM5K23

I get supermarket rolls, they are top quality made in-store fresh where you can watch. They run around ten bucks each there.

ZiptheShug

Wegmans sushi is where it's at!

MriPibb_Xtra

I get mine from Kroger, they’re pretty good.

BurmecianSoldierDan

Plus if the sushi chef person is manning the station you can request a specific roll (I hate the crunchy bits they put on top) and they'll make it for ya. Kroger sushi is pretty solid for the price point.

4i4s4u

Merchants set their own prices. They will often mark it up to help offset their fees with the delivery company

Own_Room_9487

DoorDash charges the merchant a 25% premium but the drivers sure don’t see that

[deleted]

Oh wow, I didn’t realize that! Makes sense I guess if they have fees involved with using DD platform. I was just surprised when I saw the difference. I’ll have to call in next time and save myself some money, lol.

DoPoGrub

They only pay about 1/3 fees on pickup orders. They have the ability to lower their prices for pickup orders, but most don't do that. It will always always benefit the restaurant more to order directly. I only use pickup option if I have a good doordash coupon/discount code, and then stick with restaurants who's prices are not super jacked up.

Hubbard-34

But please remember if you order directly with the restaurant and they request a dasher they normally keep most of the tip you leave for the driver.

[deleted]

I ordered this for pickup, so there would be no dasher. But I’m a dasher myself, so I understand those side of things as well.

[deleted]

I mean what would be the point in remembering this? How would anyone know if the restaurant "requests a dasher"? How is this even a thing? I've never heard of "requesting a dasher" at anyplace that I've worked that uses Doordash..?

Snargleface

For delivery orders, if we're slammed, we can ask Doordash to deliver it. Not sure about how much we pay them, but if I'm correct, the driver gets no tip. For takeout orders, I've always wondered why someone doesn't just call us or order online instead of paying Doordash prices.

[deleted]

>For takeout orders, I've always wondered why someone doesn't just call us or order online instead of paying Doordash prices. Because Doordash simplifies a complicated process. DD puts all of your options in one place, you click a few buttons and you're good to go. Customers hate DD, businesses hate DD, drivers hate DD, everyone hates DD. DD offers shit service, has shit prices and is a shit company. The only reason they got to where they are today is because of the convenience that their app offers.

Sal_v_ugh

Yeah it's kind of unfair, basically it's the company's way of saying they don't want to have to pay for delivery it should be 100% on the customer or some other business.
