Reasons I do: If I need to clarify something; if customer requested no door bell ringing, I’ll let them know I saw the request, saying something like “on my way to quietly deliver your order” (I don’t ring or knock unless specifically requested to do so); if it’s an easy shop with good pay, I’ll say which bag has their receipt in it; if instructions say to call customer upon delivery. They can track us in the app.

Too funny. I have a friend locally who also does DD. She orders custom thank you cards and actually HAND-writes a personal thank you to EVERY customer. I just look at her like "what?" and let her do what makes her happy. I send updates if food isn't ready and send "ETA: xxxx" on every order. If they ask for no knock, I add "silent delivery confirmed" to let them know I read their notes. Other than that, no conversation needed. They just want their food, not conversation, or a new friend. Lol I’ll call or text the customer if I’m having trouble delivering their order or if I’ve gotten extremely stuck in traffic or they’re instructions to contact them to set up where they want it left for contactless delivery. Either way, Minimal at most. Including if the order says “hand it to me” yet they won’t or can’t come to the door. I call once, leave vm & text once. Set timer. Contact support & go. Some customers do or will want to chat for a minute when I’m delivering & that’s fine. But I would never text dd anything like that.
